Direct Air is a private airline that flies a few select vacation destinations from a handful of small airports is less vacationy areas. One of those airports (Worcester) is conveniently close to where I live and one of the destinations is a place I fly to often to visit friends and family (West Palm Beach), and since flights are Thursday evenings out and Sunday evenings back, direct, and affordable, why wouldn't I choose this airline? So I conspired with my best friend's husband months in advance for the only weekend that worked for both of us and hatched a secret plan to visit her and their new baby. I wrangled up my Florida friends for a grand surprise and booked a round trip convenient flight for a price I could actually afford. Life was so very very grand. Until I got the voice-mail. Something had "changed" with my flight, please call... And then I called. Flight cancelled. It's in TWO WEEKS. Cancelled. No other flights. They could get me on a flight a few weeks away or I could have a refund. Now, of course, it's too late to get any affordable flights anywhere else (yes I've looked) and what I can afford are flights with many many transfers, which is not doable for a weekend. The rep at Direct Air was unsympathetic, unwilling to do anything else to try and help me, and kind of rude. She seemed annoyed that I had the gall to be upset. Days later I still haven't seen my refund and when I called I was told they're working on it. How long does it take to process a credit card transaction? They should have done that immediately on the phone. Direct Air is too good to be true. Don't take the risk unless you can afford to shell out big bucks to make alternate plans at the last minute. On Thursday September 1, 2011, a group of nine passengers arrived late to the Sanford Orlando Airport to board a flight to Worcester, MA. Due to an accident, the group arrived late and missed their flight back to Worcester, MA. At the time, there was no other flight until at least September 3, 2011 unless we wanted to purchase a ticket with another airline, which would end up costing the group over $3,000. The Direct Air guest services person at the Sanford Orlando Airport assured us after speaking with Direct Air Customer services that we would only have to pay $115 per person on Saturday to fly back to Worcester. The group agreed to stay other 2-days in Florida, catch the Saturday flight back to Worcester, and pay the $115 per person. On Saturday, the group arrived 1-hour early that the Airport. When we checked in, we were told the we would have to pay $210 per person due to the re-scheduling fee and the price adjustment, which we were never told about. The Direct Air guest services person passes the phone to me after she had been discussing the issue and the direction we were given two days prior. The customer service person from Direct Air, which I spoke to over the phone, was completely rude, dismissive and did not understand the distress we had experience. The airline did not want to work with us and she ended up telling me to pay more or don't fly at all and hung up the phone on me. If we knew that the group needed to pay an extra $100 per person, we would have taken a shuttle to Orlando International and would have taken a flight with a different carrier. We ended up having to pay the extra $100 per person on top of the with already agreed to pay for a total of $210 per person. Once we agreed to pay since we did not have any other choice, the ticket counter was having difficulties running a credit card to purchase the tickets. In between some of us in the group, we ended up deducting a total of $2000 from a nearby ATM so that we can purchase the tickets. Once we had the money in cash, they refuse to take it at first but then called a manager, which allowed the transaction to be done in cash. After that, all but one of the passenger's tickets was transfer. Therefore, we ended up having to wait another 30-minutes to process that last passenger's ticket before we were allowed to board the plane. Hands off this were the worst experience with an airliner in my life, which I hope I never experience again. Direct Air & Tours is a complete rip off, they are unprofessional, rude, dismissive will not do anything to take care of their customers. Nor I, my family or anyone I know will ever board a plane own or operated by Direct Air & Tours. I spent over $2500 in airfare fees, hotel, food, etc due to these incompetent personnel at Direct Air & Tours, which are not capable of honesty and resort to ripping off their customers. Let me also remind you that the Flight Attendants are also rude and while on board you have to pay for everything including a simple cup of water (No ice) which will run you $3.00. read more

took a flight from worcester to west palm beach on march 11th.. while on vacation i see the airline cancels all flights until furthur notice leaving us stranded there.. good thing i read the paper to see this happened they didnt even call... We finally got home on jet blue but had to paay 500 bucks to get home... so needless to say Direct air is about as cool as cancer... F*** YOU DIRECT AIR read more

Myrtle Beach Direct Air Worst Ever - 1. Was told after booking that we had to pay extra (each way) to have my 8yr old sit next to me. When we boarded they moved our seats to the rear of the craft, they rudely explained, due to a plane change just prior to our departure. 2. Pay Extra for luggage (each way) - They damaged and haven't replied even though I followed verbatim customer service protocol, (immediate visit to one of their representatives in the airport, filled out forms, took pictures, emailed and mailed their forms). 3. Flight was late arriving in Sanford, Florida I fully understand travel hiccups & human error, however total disregard of customer service in the simplest form makes no sense. read more

Once you buy tickets - good luck booking your flight - they have their phone system set to all circuits are busy - even though they have this message on their site: Direct Air operates a Reservation / Call Center located in Beckley, West Virginia. The center is capable and has handled as many as 20,000 incoming calls per day supporting as many as 100 Reservation/sales agents on-line simultaneously. Last April, after searching their website and ensuring flights were available, we purchased 10 direct air 'flights' during a friends and family sale $1,690!!! Over the next few months as our plans firmed up I called Direct Air to actually book the flights and one destination after another, there were NO flights available. We were told that flights would be posted soon, but they were never posted. In fact, Direct Air cancelled all of it's flights in and out of Myrtle Beach airport from some time in December until late early April. I have paid $1,690 for 10 tickets and have been unable to use any of them. I have emailed customer service several times with NO response. I've been told by Direct air representatives that there is NO phone number for Customer service. On two separate occasions when I engaged a relatively understanding representative on the phone, I was told that they get hundreds of calls from people with similar complaints and that people threaten to sue all the time. The first time my dad ever used Direct Air was great! The second time, they canceled his return flight from Myrtle Beach back to Ohio a week before he left. They didn't help us find him another flight and would only return his money for the canceled flight! Finally, for Christmas, he bought two voucher tickets to use "when you want, for who you want". What a joke!! It actually should say "we only let you go when we haven't booked the flight full, we let everyone else book first, and won't return your money even if we tell you that you can't go!" They won't answer their phones (the 1-800 number) and if you call their office, they are rude and won't do anything for you. They act like they might be going out of business. Take my advice, fly some other major airline and be happy you have a lay-over rather than a wasted, stressed out time with these people!! read more

Horrible experiences with DirectAir. They cancel flights due to no planes. Flights always late. No customer service. No return calls or emails. Twice the week of July 4, 2011 flight were cancelled stranding hundreds of passengers in Worcester, MA and Sanford, FL. The do not care at all about passengers. Be safe, go any other carrier, don't be reeled in by the cheap flights. read more

Bottom line: Do not fly with them. Their staff is unprofessional, their fleet ancient, and they steal your money by charging for advance seat assignments they don't honor. They'll promise to issue a charge back to your card but will never follow through. read more

Very Bad experience, Bought Airline tickets was going to travel to Florida on the 29th of March. All flights were cancelled without notice. Trying to get my money back. We bought tickets to Palm Beach from Worcester, MA. A few days before flight is to leave, we received a call that the plane has to stop in Myrtle Beach and times are changed. We could get a refund and cancel our reservations or just "deal with it." Despite that a ticket with a stop should be less money didn't matter. And they were RUDE RUDE RUDE. I am trying to follow directions on confirmation notice to call for exact times. Nobody answers the phone. It is busy 24/7. I'm nervous as all get-out about flying with these people. I purchased 4 Family Ties vouchers from Direct Air in October 2011. I tried to call with questions but after days of attempted calls I gave up (first mistake). I could never get through, they either disconnected me or put me on hold forever. So I decided to take the gamble since the tickets were good for a year. So after buying the vouchers you apply online for two dates you would like to fly. I was flying out of Rockford, IL and the flights were very limited. I was refused both choices around Christmas. So I applied again for two more options around Christmas and didn't get them. So after the first of the year I tried for some springbreak flights, and I couldn't get any. Then February 1st I tried to get any dates possible as I realized that they don't fly from Rockford to FL after April 30th until November at which time my vouchers will be expired. I felt desperate now to save my $700. I called and actually got through to someone to try to use these vouchers. There was only one week that had two seats available. So after I hung up I had to find some friends or family that could go with me since my kids couldn't get out of school for that week. Then I spent the next three days trying to call back to book them. Disconnects and no answers. What a scam. The girl I spoke with did tell me that the half price sale they ran right after the family ties sale is what used up all the seats. So it seems they just sell as many seats and vouchers as they can with no regard to whether their customers will be able to use them. After emails to customer service (the only means of contact) I was told no refunds and no extensions. Sorry. $700 GONE. What a scam! read more
