But when it's not advertised anywhere that single riders will have to buy two tickets is deceiving, especially when I was looking to do one of the middle tier flights. This is the "home of the $30 helicopter ride". That ride is 1-2 minutes long. They just take you out to the beach and back really fast. Not really worth it. We got the next one up which was $49 called the north tour...however, the prices are a bit deceptive. They add in a "fuel surcharge" for each flight. It was $5 for this flight. Our flight lasted 7 minutes from takeoff to touchdown. It was fun. It was neat to see the beach from the sky so close. But it was also really fast. They try to upcharge you for headsets and getting a photo with your phone on the landing pad under the chopper. It's a bit intimidating if you've never been on a helicopter walking under the rotating blades that are very loud and jarring. Please be aware of this with children. Plus anywhere past the doors is extremely dangerous and deadly due to the rear rotor. Keep ahold of your babies please. The ride is a bit shaky and once you go up you're there until you come back so make sure those bladders are empty!! I think that the long tours that take 45 minutes would be a bit too much. I bet the 15 minute tours would be ideal. They have a 300lbs per person limit which doesn't make sense. My buddy was 11 pounds off the limit. The guy in front of us was 305. His girlfriend went up without him. I probably had 100lbs on her. Their combined weight would have been less than our combined weight so I'm not sure why they wouldn't let him go up. They also act like the pilots work on tips....it's mentioned everywhere including the cockpit. I asked what a good tip was and they said 20%. I guess everyone needs a tip these days...remind me to tip my pharmacist next time I pick up a prescription. All in all I think it's worth a quick ride if you've never been in a chopper. read more

Decided to take a road trip for spring break and ended up in Myrtle Beach! Found this place randomly searching for activities to do in the area. Cant go wrong with a helicopter tour, right? The prices were cheaper than other helicopter tours we have done in other states. You can choose the route you want to go and that determines your price as low as $20. The only down side was the tour didn't include noise canceling headphones and you had to purchase them separately. Besides that the staff was friendly, and our pilot was nice. The prices are very misleading. All the ads say "flights from $29," but once you get there, those cheaper options aren't actually available -- they only push the expensive packages. The helicopters are old and poorly maintained inside, with worn-out and even torn seats. On top of that, you have to wait in line under the blazing sun with no shade or comfort. Got lured in for the $20 helicopter ride and we somehow got roped into the $60 ride. People working there are nice and process is easy to navigate. Wasn't a long wait even though many people were there- they have their system down pat getting people in and out quickly and safely. The pilot was super nice and had us wear the headphones even though we didn't pay the extra for them. It is stated they work for tip (before getting on) so we gave him $20. All in all, don't go for the bigger packages. Just do the $20 for the the thrill of going up and seeing everything. I don't think the larger packages are worth the money. read more

$20 ride will give you only 2 minutes ride. Minimum is 2 tickets. If you want longer ride for for 5 min, it's $40 per ticket; 8 minutes, that's $60. Now, double that if you are on your own (my friend got sick that day and we were leaving the next day). There is no reservation system. It is a walk-in arrangement, so you may get there and wait for a long time, or if you want to see sunset, you are out of luck - they won't give you selected time. There are no details about the duration of the flights on their website. Very limited info: the idea is to get you there like baiting. In addition, the staff at the ticketing office was rude. No hello, no how can I help. Just rude tone and military-like orders interrupting you. Her attitude was as if she was doing a favor. Looking at the reviews, I'm pretty sure pilots and rides are nice, but paying $120 for a 5-min ride with the rude woman upfront, is not my story. Stopped by here on the way out of Myrtle beach and saw the sign advertising $20 helicopter rides. Thought we'd give it a try since neither one of us had ever been on a helicopter ride. We got the $80 ride which was about an hour long. It was sooo worth it! Such beautiful scenery and our pilot Chris was amazing and so full of knowledge! I am a local and I had a horrid sorta rude situation yesterday with the Oceanfront helicopter rides. The teenager who obviously lacks all manners and common sense talked back to us! The customer, We needed to know how long it would be the wait and the ride because only 3 people can go up and we are a family of 4. 2 adults and 2 kids. We didn't want to leave someone in the car for too long alone. After repeatedly asking her how long it would be she kept saying, "I don't know because the person who would know is just across the street in the office."We asked her nicely if you could please go ask, it wasn't busy there! was no one around! we were the only people waiting. Her response was so rude" OK, Make it harder on me I will go over there!" Extremely Sassy! To which we responded "this is your job and you don't talk back to a customer, who has a legitimate question you're rude we're gone! what is your name" which she wouldn't give us her name. She is about 13 years old and working under her probably just as nasty parents I'm sure. Because she wouldn't give me her name yes I walked over I went to the office myself! She kept screaming at me ma'am you can't go there!! I knocked on the door and told them specifically that this little girl right here has an attitude problem and you just lost about $300 worth of sales which you don't care obviously. So we voiced our experience to the manager nothing was done and a lot of these attractions out here do have a "white privilege issue" because we are people of color. So yes I know you don't like it is "Black Bike week" butt you do not sass mouth a customer. She also tryed to put her hands on me when I was walking to the managers office and I told her "I wish you would!" Don't touch me! I'm going to talk to your managers and leaving. Which I did! Had a great ride! We paid for the Inlet Tour for $129 and I definitely recommend this tour for more air time! The tour was about 10-15 minutes that took us down past the State Park, Surfside Beach, Garden City, Murrells Inlet & down to Pawleys! Did the 2nd upgrade helicopter ride, which is about $40.00 per rider, with my daughter. It was very cool and amazingly smooth. Thet say it takes you for a 5 minute jaunt.. but.. we feel like it was more of a 10 to 15 minutes in the air! We had 2 pilots. Both were very friendly and were quick to point out local attractions.. Even a huge sea turtle swimming in the ocean! This should be on a definate TO DO LIST when you are visiting Myrtle! Ps.. Dont forget to tip your pilot(s)!!! read more

Called them again and they said they'd call back and haven't called me back so when I called again it kept going straight to voicemail but wouldn't let me leave a message. A 650-700lb weight limit was advertised online, (which should be more specific) however my group (3 college men) weighed less than 650 combined, and we were turned away because we were over 600lbs. There was also no advertising of their minimum of two passengers per flight and we were not allowed to split up our group to make the newly created weight limit without purchasing another ticket. Either there is inconsistent enforcement of this rule by employees or the website falsely advertises their rules. Really just a shame that we had to waste money on an Uber to get there, only to get turned away after being so excited. DO NOT BOOK ONLINE! There are a lot of false pretenses on their website. Only 3 people can fly together, but pictures show families of 4. If you book online, you still have to wait in the ticket line with all the people who did not pre book. Plan on 2+ hours of waiting once you get there. They trick you with pricing and don't mention when you get there that head sets must be purchased separately. Not ideal for families at all. There are extra "fees" even if you paid online that you must pay when you get there. Getting a refund is a nightmare, we watched a family wait roughly an hour for a manager. Do your family a favor and spend your time and money elsewhere. read more

Fortunately OceanFront and their owners seem to have fixed the customer service issues. The aircraft was clean, the headsets were comfortable, and the pilot was a delight to ride with both times. The sales team was nice to the kids, answered questions from all of us, and weighed us as well as explaining why they had to do that. We had a delightful flight with a skilled pilot who had some good knowledge of the area and pointed out things that the kids would be interested in, like the bulldozer shaping part of the beach. He also pointed out some of the more popular places. While the pilot's primary job should be to fly the aircraft, it certainly makes it a pleasant flight to exchange knowledge and learn about the area and look at the aircraft and beach below us once the takeoff workload is over. Most pilots can make more delivering pizzas than they can flying aircraft; it's been that way for years. So, we did tip him on the 2nd ride. We had 3 kids who wanted to ride plus me, so I did 2 flights. The first was a little short of the Apache pier due to strong winds and possibly separation for an airplane going into Grand Strand. As a pilot, I understood that. On the second trip the same pilot took us just beyond the pier to make up for the shorter trip earlier, which was appreciated. We also talked about some places that he likes to eat in the area and he pointed those out from the air. Costs Flying on an any aircraft certainly is sticker shock as compared to operating our car. The cost to operate the R-44 helicopter commercially, to the standards the FAA requires, is about $400-$450 per hour dependent upon fuel costs. A car engine with the same horsepower as the aircraft is about $3000-$6000 and usually lasts about 4,000 - 8,000 hours dependent upon the manufacturer and how it is operated and maintained. The engine in the helicopter is about $72,000 and has to be overhauled about every 1,500 - 2,000 hours, dependent upon how it is operated, and it can cost up to $24,000 per overhaul. ....and that doesn't include accessories. Oil changes are about $300 for that engine, have to be done every 50 hours, and have to be done by a licensed Powerplant mechanic, usually an A&P. These tour operators have the prices down to a place where they can make a few dollars profit during the summer for the operation, overhead, helicopter "mortgage", land rental/lease/mortgage, and taxes. It is nice to be able to borrow their aircraft and pilot for 20-30 minutes. read more

My wife and daughter really wanted to do this, once in a life adventure. Was a little disappointed on the $20 deal but we upgraded both of them to about five minutes tour just under 40 bucks a person not bad considering. Five dollar coupon helped that was in the big coupon books that you can get everywhere in Myrtle Beach. Anyway my daughter and wife both all smiles with some great pictures, video and great memories. They basically flew from the edge of the airport over the beach down the oceanfront turn where the big Ferris wheel is then back to the airport not a bad ride at all worth doing and a great Adventure of a lifetime. read more

This is a great thing to do if you never have done it. My biggest concern for giving it a 4 is the expense and time in the air. I paid $153 dollars +!20 tip for a 5 -7 minute ride for 2 adults and a child. We were escorted from the holding area to the chopper. Very professional and safety conscious. We got in and flew to the coast at about 1100 ft and flew up to the board walk and then back down. We got to see A lot of sites. I spotted our hotel. We then were able to see the Ferris wheel and the roller coaster. Finally on our return we had a great view of the airport. You can take all the pictures you want. read more

We have been coming to Surfside for years and have seen the billboards and watched the helicopters fly over the beach, but never really gave it much thought. About 5 years ago when my daughter was around 6yrs old I wanted to do something special, just me and her. So I decided to give them a try. We absolutely loved it! We started out with the small quick flight, the grand strand and similar flights. Now every year we come back to the beach we set aside one day and add another memory to our "father-daughter tradition". The place is top notch. The building is nice, clean and easy to find. They have added a new building this year (2015) so when the crowds come in you have room to move around while you wait for your flight. The staff are always nice and professional. There is also a gift shop if you want to buy a shirt or hat. The pilots are super nice and professional. We have flown with them 5 times and every time had been amazing. They are very knowledgeable and will answer any questions, no matter how small or complex. They know all their is to know about the area and all the sights you will see. Anytime you are over the beach they are pointing out things and will be on the look out for any sea life. There are several of these types of tours located in and around the Myrtle Beach area and they may be good as well but I would highly recommend you go with Oceans Front Helicopters. read more

We got the north beach ride and it was fantastic the kids absolutely loved it and both pilots (a husband and wife duo) were lovely and great at keeping the helicopter steady- I get motion sickness sooo easy and the lady we had was great! Wow, what a ride. So if you spend anytime in Myrtle beach, you will see signs everywhere for $20 helicopter rides...on billboards, in the local coupon books, everywhere. There were two locations to choose from. We chose the one near the beach which guaranteed a trip over the ocean. Upon arriving we noticed there were several options for the helicopter ride. The $20 ride was for a 2 mile round trip. We chose the trip that was for 7-8 miles for $40. If you check the local coupon books you will find a coupon for $5 off your trip per party. Please be mindful of the instructions the staff gives, so there are no accidents. My first time in a helicopter was exciting amd the take off and landing were smoother than i imagined. Our pilot was friendly and as soon as we got in, we were up up and away. We had great views of the ocean and beach front as we soared above. Billboards are scattered all over Myrtle Beach advertising $20.00 helicopter ride. When my son came to visit, I felt this would be something he would like to do. When I asked about the $20.00 ride, I was told they essentially take you up and down, that's it. I believe helicopters are supposed to go up and down and forward, as well as side to side. Their advertisement is really unfair. I ended taking the $200/person trip, as I wanted this to be a memorable event for my son. There was no pressure sales, but it is ridiculous to pay $20 for an elaborate elevator ride. No discount provided for locals. They drove us up the coast to North Myrtle Beach and back, they pointed out a few locations, including the Coastal Grand Mall. I felt they would show us more exciting events, rather than places I would drive to. The pilots were very nice and told us the altitudes we were at and they did point out a controlled fire we saw in the distance. I must admit, it was exciting, as it was my first helicopter ride and it was my son's too. We just felt it was a little bit of a let down, and now I had to come up with $400 to pay my credit card.
