you get sucked in by the $20 ride which is to the beach and back. this is perfect for someone just wanting the experience of a helicopter ride. husband took teen daughter on one- he wasn't impressed because he flew in military, but for her first time this was a perfect flight. now they also try to get you to TIP the pilot. i can fully see this on a long expensive upgrade tour if her is informative and makes your flight wonderful. But for a ride less than 15 minues long i don't get it. You might see some great marine life from up above, but you may not. All in all the $20 ride (minus the $5 savings coupon) it is a really cool experience for a kid! next time we might take a longer tour! read more

Totally awesome! I highly recommend it. I have been wanting to do a helicopter ride. It is on my bucket list. I come to the Myrtle Beach area somewhat frequently, so I have seen the billboards and driven by their location. I finally took some time to do it and I am glad I did. First of all, for those who complain about the price, what are you expecting for $20? The $20 tour gets you up and out to the beach and right back. I think that is still a good deal when you consider the cost of maintaining a helicopter. If you want to say you have taken a ride in a helicopter, the $20 ride will work. I did the Myrtle Beach tour, but I think I would have enjoyed any of the tours. Go to their web site and check the tours and pricing and FAQs before you go. I was very impressed by the business operation. Even though they were crowded (early August, busy tourist season), things were running smoothly. We were greeted by a salesperson who showed us a map of the different tours. Everyone we dealt with was very polite. We had to wait a few minutes, but the wait wasn't bad. They appeared very efficient, as the helicopters were taking off and landing very quickly. Our pilot did an excellent job describing the sites and telling us stuff that i did not know about the area. The view over the ocean is really something. We were able to see schools of fish in the water. The SkyWheel looks so small from up above, and we had just rode it the night before. Using the headphone system blocks out the noise and allows you to talk to each other and the pilot. The only thing I was a little disappointed in was that they expect you to tip the pilot. This was a surprise to me. I didn't mind doing it, because he really did a good job, but it was an unexpected expense. I wanted to tip well because he did a good job, but I wasn't sure what was customary. Later, I did look at some guidelines for tipping online and it turns out I did tip the right amount, but I wasn't sure at the time. (apparently you should tip like a tour guide, and 10-15% seems to be the recommended rate online). Overall, it was a great experience. The flight was smooth. Everyone was courteous and helpful. Hubby and I did the $20 intro ride and it was well worth the money. For the both of us after taxes (and we added on a $7 4x6 souvenir picture in front of the helicopter) it was about $55 altogether. Yeah the ride is short (a 2mile loop over the beach) but the view and feeling is so amazing!! Our pilot was fun and kept us entertained as well. They do emphasize tipping your pilot and we felt bad because we didn't bring cash but we were able to go back inside the office and leave the tip for our pilot using our Debit card so no worries if you don't have cash. Overall it was a fun thing to do and now we can say we have rode on a helicopter! read more

There are billboards all over town advertising helicopter tours for $20 and our son was talking about it for days. On the next to last day of our trip we were on the boardwalk and were tempted to ride the skywheel...but considering it would have been over $40 for the three of us to ride the wheel we left it up to our son to pick. Since he chose the helicopter we arrived here. All the staff where great, nothing but compliments, you all do a great job. My son and I opted for the $20 tour advertised which is a two mile loop out over the ocean and back. Our pilot was awesome and great with my son (4 y/o). The tour is only about five minutes, but its only $20 a person so what could you expect (there are longer tours btw). No complaints for what we got. The only thing I had issue with was as were getting on the helicopter a staff member told us that the pilots only get paid by tips... well this was irritating to begin with, but it was upsetting because I had left my wallet with my wife so I wouldn't lose it. Also, if you plan to take one of these tours, stop by ANY of the local junk / tourist shops and get a coupon book, there is a $5.00 coupon in it ;) read more

After reading other reviews I knew my family of four would upgrade to the slightly longer flight. It was really fun. My only complaint and reason for giving 4/5 stars was that we purchased the headphones for three of us and were told my lap-held 1-year-old would get them complimentary. This was after I told the clerk I needed to get her a set from the car. When we got on the helicopter there were headphones for everyone but her. Someone was supposed to give them to us before boarding and since we didn't know there was no way to get back off and ask for them. I ended up putting mine on her because it's too noisy for a small child. Then, my husband and I shared. They didn't offer to refund the price of one set of headphones or anything. Didnt pressure an up sell, described each tour without asking for it, they saw which one we were interested in and didnt continue with the much more expensive options. Nice people. Offered the picture package. Well spoken and communicated people on the helipad. Nice pilot. Spoke to us but didnt force an annoying conversation. Told us it was windy so it may bounce around a bit and thats perfectly normal. We did the 40$ per person package with headsets (5$ per person, would recommend) and it was not too short or so long that you felt bored or trapped. Pilots do accept tips but they did not ask once for them. If you are fearful of flying the 20$ ride is a great way to help get over it! read more

Very cool. The lady who got us our boarding passes was very enthusiastic and didn't try to sell us a more expensive ride, she respected what we chose. The guy getting us into the helicopter was kind of rude, but he was just trying to keep us safe. The pilots were very kind, I felt very safe. They were also very good tour guides, they knew all the popular things in Myrtle Beach. I have to warn you, they do take your weight, so if you don't like people knowing your weight, I wouldn't suggest going on this helicopter ride. We also got sucked in by the billboards advertising the 20$ introductory flight. As it turns out it's SUPER short (approx. 2 minutes flight time). We opted for the next one up which was 40$ per person and lasts 5-7 minutes. It was pretty much awesome. My husband is in the U.S. Navy and we also have a one year old daughter. As it turns out, our pilot was retired military so he was great and VERY friendly. The thing they don't mention in the brochures or even on the website, is that the pilots fly for tips only. Your flight cost does not include that, so make sure you have some extra cash on hand for him/her. Overall, it was a nice trip, worth the 80$ that we spent on the flight. Amazing views of the oceanfront and definitely something neat to try out. read more

To start I want to say we really enjoyed the experience. We knew walking in we planned to do the $40 flight as I had read the $20 was super short like 2 miles out. But what I was surprised about after arriving and checking out was the additional fees. $5 for noise reducing headsets per person, $6.60 for fuel surcharge per flight, and $4.82 for airport fee per flight. So a family of 4 cost a total of $204.60 since we had to do 2 separate flights. Which is a bit of a surprise when thinking $160 plus tax. The staff was nice and we felt safe. Still glad we had the experience. Just want to let others know to plan their budget. read more

Took my blind mom with me and she loved it despite not being able to see...again, it's about the experience. I cannot say enough good things about the staff. Took this ride on October 1, 2016. Pros: the young man who checked us in was very friendly and gave us the run down on packages and views. The guys who walked us to the helicopter and took us of the helicopter were friendly. Cons: the tall guy who took the money was not friendly and we both rode on the yellow helicopter and the pilot did NOT speak at all!!!! Not to mention that you have to pay for the headphones ($5) what a bunch of crock!!!! We will never ride this company again! Got sucked in by the billboards and business card boasting $20 helicopter ride. Turns out the $20 ride basically goes up and comes right back down, so we went one up $39.99 for the 5 minute ride plus the almost $5 4x5 pic next to the ride. The outfit is very tidy and professional, they whisk you to the pad in a golf cart, give you the down and dirty about safety, take your picture and you are off and back before you know it. The view is spectacular, it really is the best way of viewing the ocean. I am not sorry that we did it, but having done it once feel no need to do it again. I recommend it. BUT as an add on the sales person was insistent the headphones for an additional $5 each would enable us to hear the pilot give us a narrative (never happened) and we could converse. Seriously, the only thing the pilot said was asking us if we had ever taken a helicopter ride. The pilot didn't even say, 'Have a nice day!' when we exited the helicopter. OKAY b****, so first off you promise my friend a deal of 50% off a 5 minute (8 mile) ride so that it only costs $20 (typically the cost of a 2 minute ride -- 2 miles) then when we come back that evening to claim it, you do the old switch-a-roo and say the 'guy before me' shouldn't have promised a deal like that because it's not possible. Use common sense! This is a helicopter ride, an expensive vehicle to run and fuel is super high. $20 buys you 2 miles or about 2 minutes in a helicopter; one simple loop so don't act all surprised when you get there and want to see all of Myrtle Beach for $20 but cant. We went with the 7-8 mile North Beach loop. It was awesome! The view was amazing and the pilot entertaining. We saw a sea turtle and schools of fish down below in the Ocean. My recommendation; do it! For two of us with Military discount and buying a photo plus a $10 shirt for our niece was $98 plus we left a $20 tip for our pilot. Which reminds me, bring cash for your pilot, it's how they make a living. read more

Absolutely AWESOME! This is a MUST do for anyone looking to see the beach in a way you never have. We took the Apache tour and the pilot was so friendly. She, yes SHE-we had and female pilot who was so cool-not only gave us a great flight but she told us all about the history of the area and knew where everything was from the air. We saw dolphins swimming just beyond the breakers and even saw a 6 foot shark!! 6 stars for sure!! read more

This is now called Oceanfront Helicopters. Our Ontro tour was Great. We only opted for the $20 ride. We knew what we got for that price going in and we were told also at the desk prior to purchase. Simply no reason for anyone to complain about pricing. There is a weight limit for passengers, so know that going in (300 lbs for one person but max per group is different). They also operate on tips which we kindly gave. Headsets to talk are $5 extra but worth it IMO. Max 3 passengers + the pilot. All staff very professional and friendly, especially Mike our pilot. He was simply great and told us about things we were over and talked to my kids during the ride. Took us on a 2 mile/2 min ride and circled out over the ocean, back over golf courses and grand strand before returning to landing pad. Went to height to 1000 ft. Will do again. read more

Strongly recommend giving this a shot for a first time - amazing experience. Only downside I would say is the price. For two people choosing the third option (Broadway tour) it ran us at around $125 for approximately 7 minutes. A bit pricey for only 7 minutes and it felt quicker than that. We had a great time! We were drawn in by the $20 ride billboards. I don't know what everyone thought they were going to get for $20... it's obvious that's a cheap/quick ride in a helicopter, judging by fuel costs. I told my friends it would probably last 2-5 minutes, max. I wasn't disappointed by that, since I was expecting it. The flight was beautiful (we went at sunset), and everything moved very efficiently. I was extremely impressed with our pilot, Marcus. He was a total sweetheart. I understand that the job of pilot is about more than taking people up and down. You probably get a lot of scared/nervous passengers (I flew with two who had never been in any type of aircraft before). He did a great job of calming everyone down and making them comfortable. If I were to ever go back or on a longer tour, I'd request him. My only issue was, as others have mentioned, they didn't tell us about the customary tip until we were about to board. We had left our purses behind. I asked about leaving a tip for Marcus at the desk, and was told that would be fine, but I would have rather left it with him. Maybe they could mention about tipping at the desk when you purchase your ticket, so that you could go ahead and have your cash with you to give the pilot? I was also unsure what was customary to tip. We ended up leaving almost 50%, which was probably a bit much, but I was happy to do it and would have left more if I'd had more cash on me.
