He literally diagnosed a vitamin deficiency (that was later confirmed by my doctor) within minutes of sitting in his chair for the first time, and he's been slowly transforming my hair since. He takes his time and gives my 4c hair the care and consideration that it needs. Now, I constantly get compliments on my hair and styling at home in between appointments is a breeze. I am so, so disappointed. Most of the service was fine, but they cut my bangs like a 4 year old with scissors. Uneven, spikey when I asked for fluffy and way, way over cut for a first dry cut. I was truly shocked at how bad they are. Not just the "wrong style," actually a botched cut. read more

I have been a loyal client of this salon for over 10 years. My interactions with all the stylists and staff been lovely. They are always accommodating and have a genuine, friendly customer service that is hard to find. Maureen is my primary stylist and she has given me everything from an awesome shag to an asymmetrical pixie and she achieves exactly what I'm asking for every time! She always takes the time to listen to what I'm looking for, even if it's just a small deviation from my normal style. We have fun and engaging conversations and I love coming to see her. Lillie at the desk is also a notable gem. When I've been looking for a product that's out of stock, she'll take the time to call me when it returns. She has great product knowledge and always makes sure I'm aware of any specials they might be running. I cannot recommend Dellaria highly enough. No matter what neighborhood of Boston I'm living in, I will only come to Dellaria for my cuts and products. read more

I've been crying for hours. I went in for a balayage. The stylist was super sweet, but she absolutely destroyed my hair. I asked for ashy blonde and came out with a mix of gray and orange hair. I also paid for an additional haircut, and she spent all of 5 minutes on it. She just barely trimmed. Throughout the whole process, she was also super rough with my hair: tugging on it when washing it and aggressively combing it while it was wet. It was very painful and upon checking my hair later, so much of it had been broken off. I called to complain and my mistake was agreeing to go in for a second time for a redo. I came out with hair that is now completely fried and breaks whenever I touch it. The color is a hideous mix of white, yellow, and orange. I'm out $340, and I'll have to pay again to get this atrocity fixed. I just don't understand how my stylist looked at it each time I left, and thought, "this is ok." I've been trying to grow out my hair, but I'll likely have to cut off most of it because of how damaged and hideous it is. read more

Updating my review because the salon offered me a redo free of charge. First off, this salon has wonderful customer service. Not only did the owner respond to my review, but the manager of the store called me the next business day. I was able to book an appointment the following weekend. I am so grateful that my stylist greeted me with smiles and understanding because I know how much time/resources the process takes. My hair was very damaged (my fault, from previous dye jobs), so I added Olaplex treatment. My stylist painstakingly avoided my extra damaged ends and already bleached pieces of hair to minimize damage. She also offered me drinks, updated me throughout the process, was gentle when detangling my teased hair, and made sure I wasn't too hot from bleach or the lamp. I am sooo happy with the results! The color looks a lot more natural. Again, I am amazed that she was able to remove so much of the red and black dye from my hair. The manager of the store even checked in on me to make sure I was satisfied and threw in the Olaplex treatment for free. A note on balayage: My stylist explained to me that the original job was correctly done. Balayage will look darker with straight hair because some pieces are left undyed on the bottom. Most pictures of balayage are with curled hair because it allows the light pieces and dimension to peek through. Some of the photos of balayage I referenced on the Dellaria page are actually a combination of Ombre and Balayage techniques (something I did not know before). That process is more expensive because it requires a lot of extra steps. I added a picture of an example in case you were looking to get that done with the balayage deal. I have been a client of hers for 8 years(!!!) and I want the world to know she's the best Steph is absolutely a color expert and is really thorough during consultations when explaining the steps/process to achieve what you want. Unfortunately my first ever appointment at Dellaria had to be pushed back a few weeks due to Stephanie injuring her finger (oh well, sh*t happens). It was definitely worth the wait though because Stephanie is so lovely. Not only is she personable and energetic, you really get the vibe that she LOVES doing hair. If you're coming to this salon and in need of color, Stephanie is your girl. I had some blonde balayage done to lighten me up for the summer. All in all I really really liked my hair but it didn't have the WOW factor I was hoping for (especially after the toner washed out a few days later). My friends/family didn't even notice I got it done which I think everyone can agree is the most aggravating thing ever. I just wish it came out a few shades blonder... next time I will be more clear about my vision! Stephanie is in really high demand and her prices reflect that. I ended up paying 170$ for a baby trim of my dead ends and the partial balayage (so over 200$ with tip). While I'm sure this is not unreasonable for the Boston area, it's a lot more than I would typically pay to get my hair done. However, I'm a firm believer that once in a while you just gotta treat yo self. I would definitely return to Dellaria and Stephanie as my bank allows just because she is so awesome. I have lived by this Dellaria location for years and thought it was time to finally check it out. I came in for a hair cut, balayage, and blow out. My stylist was good hearted, but the experience was not at all like a spa....he was extremely rough with my hair and neck. I felt like I was injuring myself by just sitting. Additionally, the whole process was the lengthiest hair appointment I have ever had...over 2.5 hours. I felt the stylist was working so slowly and literally painfully as he grabbed my head. I have had balayage, etc done multiple times in my life before and it has never taken this long or been as painful. Additionally, the salon is definitely old and not kept up well. The fixtures and chairs are not modern nor up to date. The chair I was sitting on when they washed my hair was so old and crummy looking. And there was a bright light right above the station that made it such an unpleasant, uncomfortable time for me. I believe that if you're spending $275, you should receive quality care and I did not. My rating would be lower if it weren't for the fact that my stylist was a good person at heart. I think the salon really needs to undergo renovations and include new/the best furnishings. Otherwise it is definitely not worth the price. Finally, I asked the lady at the front desk whether I would be eligible for the new client discount and she did not give it to me....unhelpful. read more

So... the only haircuts I've ever really gotten were from my aunties (very Asian, I know) or from myself! It's really hard for me to trust anyone else with my hair *dramatic* but it's true. But nonetheless, I am happy with how my hair turned out! Prior cut: Immediately when I arrived, I was greeted with such warmth! They asked me who I was seeing and if it was my first time. They gave me a little background info about the place, how there are 3 different floors, etc. While I was waiting, I was offered water/tea/coffee which was super sweet! During cut: Erin was super professional. She helped me figure where my hair fell naturally (where it falls and splits) and I thought that was super awesome because I was never aware of how my hair fell...? Anyways, she did an incredible job and if I wasn't moving back to California, I'd come back to Erin for sure! After cut: They accept venmo for tips which was super neat I think. My experience at this salon was definitely not worth the price for my haircut. My stylist worked like she needed to be somewhere in the next five minutes. I was afraid she was going to accidentally chop off too much hair because she was moving so quickly. She was also really aggressive with my hair. I always see going to get a haircut as a relaxing experience, where I don't feel like I'm rushed myself, and unfortunately here I felt quite the opposite. I just want to preface this review by saying that that I have never written a yelp review. However, the service I received here was so atrocious that I couldn't hold my feelings in anymore. I got my hair cut here two months ago by Nicole Tangherlini and it was the WORST hair cut I have received in my entire life. This happened two months ago and it still upsets me daily and has ruined my self confidence because I hate the way I look. I came in with beautiful long hair with a tiny bit of long layers and some face framing piercing and asked for a TRIM. Made it very clear that I did not want to change anything. She even said that she normally is cautious when she cuts so she doesn't too much off. So I was reassured. BUT THEN she started CHOPPING my hair, I'm talking like 5 inches, cutting terrible drastic layers that I simply did not ask for. Never once did I say the word layers. I SAID TRIM. I literally started crying in the chair because I was watching the hair I took so long to grow out be chopped before my eyes. She simply did not do what I asked. It is going to take me months before my hair grows back, and I just can't believe I paid to have my hair destroyed. If you like your hair, never go to her. I was very upset because I went to this salon in the fall and had a great experience with a different stylist which is ironic because English cleary wasn't her first language but she understood what I wanted. I am not normally picky with my stylists so that it why I tried someone new, but that turned out to be one of the biggest mistake's. Nicole should not be touching peoples hair. read more

I went in to get my previous botched dye job fixed, and Stephanie was absolutely amazing. Another salon had left my hair (which was supposed to be a bayalage) streaky with no color transition, and I honestly wasn't sure if it could be fixed. Stephanie explained the process of what she was going to do to fix it and made sure that I understood what she was going to do, so I had complete faith in her. She also took such care when painting and checking my hair. Unlike other hair stylists/ salons, she didn't paint my hair quickly for the sake of getting it done. The painting process alone probably took about an hour and she checked every strand of hair and painted each strand individually. She also checked my hair multiple times while it was in foils under heat and applied more bleach where it was needed. In the end, my hair came out beautifully and I was left with a beautiful gradient in my hair, similar to what I wanted in the beginning. She also managed to get rid of the steaks of black running through my hair from the previous dye job. I also really like the salons policy for tipping. Instead of having to deal with the awkwardness of handing over cash to your hair stylist, you just leave the money in a labeled envelope at the cash register when you pay for your appointment. read more

I decided to try Dellaria because there was availability that worked for my schedule and it was super affordable based off what I could see online. When I first arrived, I was told I'd be seeing a different hairstylist than who I had selected online when booking the appointment. I found this a little odd, but it ended up working out wonderfully! Kristen was talented and gave me the perfect haircut. This salon is more no-frills than some of the other salons in the area, but it's clean, welcoming, and I walked away with a great haircut without breaking the bank. I'll be back! read more

I had my hair cut for the first time at this Salon based on my friends referral. I book my appointment through their website. The only available option for haircut comes with blow-dry and next step after selecting the provider is choosing your appointment time which is 30 minutes. ( I attached the photos) After my haircut has done by the hairstylist without blow dry he told me for having the blow-dry you should have booked the one hour appointment in advance without extra charge.So, I was charged for the whole amount without having the blow-dry. I'm writing this review for two reasons: 1. For new customers who wants to do the haircut at this salon to prevent making the same mistake that happened for me.Especially, if you have an important meeting after your salon appointment! 2. As a professional salon with high reviews and great hairstylists I didn't expect to face these kind of problems. The least thing the lady at front desk could do as a customer service was to give me a discount instead of charging the whole amount that was shown with blow-dry in their website. I have to update my review that the business has a great customer service! They called me and apologized for the confusion that happened. The 30 minuets appointments are included blow-dry and it was just a mistake that happened. They gave me a free blow-dry appointment to compensate. This was my very first time going to Dellaria Salon, and I loved it! I'm a freshman at Boston University, so I'm very new to the city. I went 3 weeks without a manicure before I decided that something just has to be done. The upperclassmen were very helpful in lending me suggestions; Dellaria was mentioned a lot. Plus, I noticed it once or twice on my way to East campus, so I figured I'd check it out. I made my appointment literally an hour before I came in, cutting it super close since they close quite early on Saturdays (understandably so). However, the people on the phone were quick, efficient and very informative. I had all of my questions answered before I even left my room. Since I made the trek all the way from the other side of campus, I was a sweaty and out-of-breath mess, and walking up the two or three flights of stairs didn't help much either lol. However, two employees offered me water, including Judy, my nail technician. Everyone offered polite smiles and was very helpful. It definitely put me at ease. Judy was very professional yet cordial. She offered enough conversation to keep the mood light but also enough silence to really concentrate on my nails. She seemed very detail-oriented, taking her time with each step to make sure that the nails came out without flaws. And it worked! They're beautiful. I love them so much; I'm so impressed. This is definitely going to be my go-to spot for the next four years. 5 stars, of course. I would recommend this place to even the pickiest of people. read more

Went in for a second balayage, but I now wish I hadn't. I spend $350 on it and it truly feels like I just wasted every single dime of that. I don't like how my hair came out at all. One thing that bothered me which I think may have been prevented if we did this is if we left the toner in longer. After the bleach, the stylist barely let the toner sit. When we washed it of course it was obvious the toner did not sit enough. The roots were horrible. So we did a second toner. Keep in mind she charges by the hour so I guess I'm paying for this hiccup. After the second toner I still did not like my hair, but I said to myself let me go home, completely blow dry it and then make an opinion. I did that and I still did not like anything about my roots. It just made the rest of the color look awful. I reached out and came back for redo on the roots. This time we definitely let the toner actually sit. It seemed to work, but as of today its still very brassy and I'm now forced to have someone else make the correction. She's talented from her work on IG and very friendly, but I wouldn't go back to her and I wished I never went in for a second session. Also, I heard her saying something about box dye and I didn't comment on it because I had already told her i had toner in my hair from over 2 months ago but I hope she doesn't think she was working with box dye hair because that certainly was not the case. I haven't used box dye in over 5 years. $350 just flushed down the drain. read more

This review is strictly for the hair salon at Dellaria in Kenmore and way wayyy overdue. I've been going here for 4 years, ever since I was a junior at BU and wanted to go somewhere convenient for me. Someone in my sorority recommended Dellaria and I found Stephanie through reading the reviews on Yelp. I don't trust anyone to color my hair now except for her! I've gotten haircuts, partial highlights, full highlights, a balayage (my hair is black and I usually do natural tones from darker to lighter browns) and my current caramel colored highlights have gotten so many compliments. Not only is the color always amazing, I have the best conversations with Stephanie, we literally talk about everything and this isn't because we've known each other for so long, it's because she's extremely fun and easy to talk to. Her instagram @hairbystephscissorhands shows all her work and although most of it is vibrant colors, she does an awesome job with natural tones as well. What's also great about Dellaria is they have student discounts for cuts and color, and every January there's discounts on hair coloring too. Around the holidays, you can purchase gift cards with a discount so for $180 I got $225 worth of credit (approximately, but definitely saved about $40!). You can make appointments online or over the phone and they send you reminders too. read more

They are okay for generic haircuts, but I have now twice had an issue with a stylist flipping my layers in the opposite direction without consulting with me....and when the pictures I've shown had the layers in the way I wanted them. Your haircut won't be "bad" per se, but in my experience stylists have done their own thing and rushed through without asking questions and running things by me. Having my layers flipped is difficult to work around and requires a lot of grow-out before the issue can be fixed, unless I want inches of my hair chopped off. Please check in with clients about what they want rather than making decisions about how you think their hair should look or what you think they want. Dellaria would do well to prioritize client needs/wants instead of rushing through the consultation or blatantly ignoring what the client requests. Update: I received a call about a week ago about my review. They offered for me to come in for a free service. Since I'm no longer in Boston the person on the phone said they would call corporate to see if a refund would be possible and that they would call me back, but they have yet to do so. read more

I went to @hairbystephscissorhands (Instagram handle) based off of her work that I saw on Instagram. I waited 3 weeks for the appointment, and I came in with light blond hair. I had wanted a golden blonde balayage. I did not go into it having irrational expectations as my sister is a professional hair dresser of 10+ years. She put a level 25 bleach and only left it in for 30 minutes. moreover, she put an ash blond toner on my hair without my knowledge or permission as I requested a honey blond. My hair came out super dark with barely any difference in color. I called the salon to complain and they scheduled me for a consultation with Stephanie on fixing it. She also lied to the receptionist and told her I had come in with box dyed black hair and that's why it didn't lift. When I came in, She was super hostile, and unprofessional. She accused me of saying that she was intentionally trying to not do my hair well, amongst other things. I went to the manager who was very sweet and helpful and told me to wash my hair a couple times to see if I like it after the toner washes out, and that if I still didn't they would re do it for me as they have a 1 week Policy to re do it. I appreciate her help and kindness and will be going back to re do it. The hairdresser I worked with however was rude, apathetic about her clients hair, hostile and unprofessional. read more
