I'll title this review "13 Reasons Why" (not to go to dellaria for hair coloring).
Disclaimer: long review. There are actually 16 reasons.
As someone who's worked in service, i hate complaining about service. I will go through hoops to suck it up and give people the benefit of the doubt. My experience at dellaria, however, was pretty terrible in more than just one way.
I've bleached my own hair for five years to ombré, but a balayage is harder to do on my own which is why I decided to go to a professional. I should have paid more somewhere else.
1. I originally had a 5-6 appointment. I sent in a picture of what I wanted done, and they called to let me know I needed to come in earlier because one hour wasn't enough time. I told their receptionist that I wanted a blonde balayage and that my hair was black and he's the one who said I would only need an hour. But okay that's fine, I went in at 4:30.
The person who was assigned to do my bayalage was super nice. She seemed genuinely excited to do my hair, so I was glad to have someone who seemed to know what she was doing.
2. One hour later, she washed out my hair, tones it, blow dries my hair DRY, and asks me what I think. It was so obviously bad that I was literally stunned that she asked me what I thought.
3. I looked like a tiger. The toner wasn't right, so my hair was very brassy.
4. The bleach lines were so obvious and not faded at all. Okay. I hesitantly point out these obvious faults and she is super nice and willing to fix the mistakes. (She definitely knew it looked awful.)
5. It's now 6:30. I cancel my dinner plans.
6. Her fix was to rebleach. She had another client at this point, so I considerately offered to dry my own hair. While drying my hair for the second time, I realized that there was a chunk of bleach still in my hair. Still calm and trying to be understanding, I walked to the bathroom, washed it out myself, and went back to drying my hair. Once it starts to dry a little, I realize my hair was worse, bringing MULTIPLE bleach lines higher to my roots.
7. It's now 7:30. I'm starving and start to panic. I wanted to walk out and come back next week, but because I have an undercut growing out, i can't even tie my hair up to hide it. Even if I could, the blatant lines were too obvious. The hair dresser then says she can color in the bleach by dying some of the higher parts black. At this point I'm agreeing to anything.
8. While she's putting in the black, she's helping another client. That's fine. I get it. But she gets black on some of the blonde parts, making my tiger-look more prominent.
She offers to get me pizza. That was really sweet of her.
9. We wash AGAIN. She tones for the second time, and dried my hair bone dry for the third time. She asks how I like it, and I respond "it's brown."
BROWN??? I went in for blonde bayalage (which I ALREADY HAD!! I just wanted it redone!!!) and came out with darker hair??
10. It's now past 8. I'm tired. When I told her what parts were messed up, she was slight defensive which made things uncomfortable too. At this point, I didn't look like a tiger anymore, so I just unhappily said it was fine.
11. She said after a few washes it'll be blonder and more like what I wanted. Okay... but for now it looks darker than when I walked in.
12. I finally got home at 9pm and my roommate (who I was updating throughout) said, "omg it's not even that bad, it looks like you didn't even get anything done." .... Are you kidding me? So I sat four hours to look like I didn't get anything done?
13. You made me leave work early at 4:30 because my treatment would take 1.5 hours, but it ended up taking 4, so I could have showed up at 5 like I was scheduled. Cool.
I HATE complaining about personal service, but this was just unreal.
14. I also showed my roommate my undercut and she was baffled at the dye job there. Check out my pictures. This was the final straw for me.
15. Oh wait, there's more. Touching my hair, I realize there's still dying product in my hair. Are you kidding me? It's probably still in my hair as I lie in bed trying to wake up from this nightmare. I wouldn't be surprised if my hair falls out tomorrow from all of this hair abuse.
16. My hair is more damaged than it's ever been in my entire life. I feel so bad for the lady who colored my hair bc she obviously was trying. Honestly I like her as a person--she's really nice... but she ruined my hair with all the bleaching, drying, dying, and toning.
I'm not good at/don't like saying I shouldnt have to pay for something, but after getting friends opinions and reflecting, I'll be calling tomorrow to get my money back. I'll get my hair fixed at Defi down the street.
*i didn't name the person because I don't want to tarnish someone's name. I'm sure she's great at other services.
I'm still so pissed off. I'll update this review after my experience getting my money back. read more
