Having gone to Della since opening (and now moved across the street) I've never had better Northern Italian cuisine - even in Venice and Tuscany - culinary wonders of Europe where I've had less satisfying atmosphere and attention to detail. Michael, the manager always has an open table for our family even at the busiest time (standing reservation). However, every business can have an "off night" - and the one thing we loved was table side presentation of the Zabayon - which is now done in the kitchen, but delicious nonetheless. The new location is larger, and much more of an open dining area... which is indeed an improvement. read more

I really don't know what everyone is freaking out about over this place...maybe they don't get out to eat much..This place is OK that's it. the decor is terrifyingly outdated, they put LED lights around the bar WTF?! the head waiter treats you like it is inconvenient to serve you, rattles off the specials like an auctioneer, no charm, not personable AT ALL the other helpers are frantic to do something its a mess. The food is inconsistent and expensive. I have been a few times, I don't like to judge after one time, We had a large group for a b-day, they literally told us we were there too long and made us leave and told us we could go to the bar!!! In my opinion, the best restaurant in Danbury! I have been going there since they opened. From the time you are warmly greeted at the door till you are graciously thanked upon departure - you are completely taken care of by the amazing staff. That is just the service; let's talk about the food. Amazing dishes with wonderful tastes that will tickle your palette and make you stop after each bite to let your party know how good the food is. I would say they are most known for the various fishes you get on the specials menu but everything else is fantastic as well. Some of my favorites dishes to try are the Chilean Sea Bass, Oso Bucco and the Snapper stuffed with Alaskan King Crab in a Puff Pastry shell. But please leave room for dessert - they have the best Creme Brulee and some wonderful homemade liqueurs. I can't rave enough about Della Francesca. We stumbled upon this restaurant by accident and we are so happy we did! It was a girls night out and we saw the sign as we were driving by and decided to try this place. The staff was inviting and attentive. We chose to order off the daily specials. I had Chilean Sea Bass dish which was AMAZING! The fish was cooked perfectly, the flavor of lemon and wine was light, fresh and the added cherry peppers gave it just the right pop to make it perfect! The house Cab was smooth, yet full bodied flavorful; the special dessert was a banana cheesecake dish with ice cream that had a touch of raspberry on the plate and other flavors that made it the great finish! The staff was patient, attentive and never rushed us! They waited until we were completely finished to bring the check which we loved because we were catching up and it had been a long time since we saw each other. The prices were reasonable for the quality of food but on the higher side of a pizzeria type place. I would definitely give this place 6 stars out of 5! I just loved it!! read more

People ranted and raved about this restaurant, and I could honestly care less about what the food tastes like, but the service was horrendous. The waiters were on point with water and drinks and serving, and it was synchronized like a damn swim team, but the attitudes were AWFUL. I have NEVER been talked down to so poorly in my life. I work for a luxury company, so I see high quality on a daily basis - I am not sure why the people at this restaurant act like they are superior to other people, but I've never been so appalled by "professional" behavior in my life. Christmas Dinner with Co-Workers / December 22,2017 Our evening started out lovely, as we waited for everyone's arrival, Prior to ordering the waiter asked if anyone had any question. I said I did. The special menu printed and added to the regular menu did not have any prices. I asked how much is the veal chop. Although his response was curt I let it go. When it was my turn to order, I ordered the veal chop. I also asked to have it medium rare. The waiter explained it was 2 veal chops pounded thin then rolled. I responded then it isn't really a veal chop. His response was rude and obnoxious maybe not so much what he said but the way it was said. "Let me Explain it to you Again". I responded that was very rude. My dinner companions looked up in shock at the way he spoke to me. I then changed my order a few minutes later to shrimp. I asked to speak to the manager on my way out. Imagine my surprise when the waiter, I believe his name is Michael arrived. I am not sure he is definitely Michael I am not sure of a lot of things he also told me he was the manager and part owner of the restaurant. He did at a a couple of points apologize for my taking what he said the wrong. At no point did he take ownership or responsibility for his rude behavior. It is a shame I will never set foot in that restaurant again the food was good. read more

The food is okay. Nothing I've ever eaten here has blown me away. The reason for a one star rating is the service. The service is by far the worst service I've ever had at any restaurant. We waited two hours for dinner to come out. I've eaten here before and this is always the case. The icing on the cake tonight was that one of our meals was forgotten. Everyone else almost finished their meals before the forgotten meal finally came. We had to complain to get the item removed from the bill. After fifty minutes past the time we were given we were finally seated. The head waiter and wait staff were not even apologetic, even after I told them about my previous experience. If I could rate this food establishment a ZERO, I definitely would. My experience with Della Francesca was horrible for a few reasons. 1) We asked for a bottle of wine and were told they were out-of-stock and instead, were were given a bottle that was nothing like the type of wine we requested. 2) I asked for a Sangria and the bar tender gives me a glass of red wine with a lemon inside. The taste was horrible; I asked for a different drink because I could not drink the Sangria and they charged me twice. 3) We asked for lemon for our water and only received it after the 3rd request. 4) We asked for black pepper and only received it after the 2nd request. 5) The drinks and food are overly expensive. 6) We were asked to leave by one of the staff members. He asked us to go sit at the bar because they needed our table. 7) I ordered a chocolate lava cake for desert, it was very dry, hard and dense, difficult to swallow. So, if you are looking to enjoy good drinks and food with your friends, don't bother spending your money at Della Francesca, just go across the street to Dolce. read more

My friends and I were in town for the American College Theater Festival this past week, and one of our typical traditions is to do a group dinner the night of the awards ceremony! Since one of our advisors has a serious soy allergy, she is limited in which restaurants she can eat at. Luckily, Della Francesca fit the bill! Della Francesca is much fancier a restaurant than we typically partake in (we're more the Unos' or Olive Garden type--broke college student friendly, essentially), so many of us had to really watch our wallet. Still, the pricing was on par with the average North End restaurant in Boston, meaning that most options wavered between $19 and $23. The seafood was the priciest, and chicken and plain pasta the cheapest. I found that by ordering a soup and salad (pasta fagioli for $6 and and Insalata Della Casa for $7), I received ample food and was quite content by the end of the meal! I'm certainly glad I did--the soup especially was fantastic. It was creamier rather than a broth, filled with white beans and perfectly al dente pasta, often difficult to find in soups. The salad had arugula, spinach and mixed greens, topped with nuts, bleu cheese, and a vinaigrette. I probably would have been just fine with the soup, but I'm ultimately satisfied with both of my choices! In terms of food, there was nary a complaint from the 17 of us there--taste, portion, and presentation were all incredible! I was very impressed with the service as well--I'm sure it's difficult to handle a huge party like ours and they were very attentive, constantly filling our water and asking us about our food, My one significant is with their handling of allergies. Like I mentioned, my supervisor has a soy allergy, and I didn't hear her interaction with our waiter but my friend sitting next to me had a very difficult time discussing her serious shellfish allergy. She was trying to ask if they could cook her chicken on a separate grill if they didn't already do so and he continued to cut her off and dismiss her concern quite rudely without hearing her actual questions. He could have been having a poor day, but an allergy is nothing to brush off. All in all, pretty good! read more

Had a good experience on my first visit; however the 2 time around was a great disappointment, went with a group of girl friends from work on a Friday, to my suggestion, I was embarrassed by the total experience, my friend got charged twice for her drink, I don't think they know what a sangria is. Terrible tasting sangria! We had to ask for lemon for our water 3x; they offered black pepper, we sat there for a while and had to remind them for the pepper 2x; and ultimately if you are planning on letting your hair down don't go to Della Francesca, we were asked to leave, which, I found very rude on the part of the waiter. Deceitful liars. I booked a company holiday party in their private room at least 2 months in advance. I went and spoke with Michael the "Manager" and watched him put our company name and phone number in his book for their private room on the requested date and time. I also gave him my business card. He mentioned that we could pick the time because the whole day was available as there were no other parties scheduled. He seemed very scattered so I checked in with him no less than 4 times to be sure we were all set. I even stopped by the day before, watched him and the receptionist check their book to make sure everything was set up for us to have our holiday party. They both confirmed we were all set for the private room. Low and behold, we showed up for our holiday party and there was another group in the private room. I immediately asked to speak with Michael, who ignored me by hiding in the kitchen for as long as he could. When he finally came out and I asked what happened, he replied that the room was double booked. He shrugged his shoulders and responded "What do you want ME to do about it" Really? I told him I wanted him to take responsibility for his error and he looked at me like a deer in headlights. I asked him why he didn't call me and he said he claimed he didn't know until that morning. LIE I asked him why he didn't call me that morning and he said he didn't have my number. LIE (We are a business right around the corner- easy to contact even if he did lose my card AND the number he wrote in the book.) We ended up sitting in the main dining room but our entire holiday party was ruined. He did give us gratis wine but that was not even close to making up for his error. I asked for the name of the owner and he said he was the owner and I should just talk to him. When I pressed him, he gave me the first name of the actual owner. Food was nothing special, all DRENCHED in sauce, and the service, well, waiters do not seem to know not to reach directly across a diners plate. Terrible business practices and I don't expect them to be in business much longer. You'd be better off driving the 15 minutes and go to a real restaurant with delicious food like Figs in Sandy Hook or Marketplace across the street. read more

The food was good but had the worst waiter ever. I was here for more than 2 hours. I didn't want to be there for so long. We got there at 7pm and didn't leave until 9:10pm. The only time the waiter came to our table was to take our food and bring us the check and he never came back. We sat down and waited for 10 mins for the waiter and then someone asked us if we were being helped then we told him no. Then the waiter comes and says do you need a menu and of course we need one. While we were looking he was rushing us to order our food. A couple who sat behind us had the same waiter sat down 10 mins after we were seated was receiving their dessert while we were just getting our food. It took so long for us to get our food. Also the waiter never told us his name but I heard it when he said it at another table which was Michael. Anyways he never offered us something to drink someone else did. I understand it was extremely busy but I've never waited this long ever. Anyways who ever was the other man who was randomly helping us I very much appreciate it. I forgot to ask for his name but he kept checking on us constantly but I'm sure that he wasn't suppose to be doing that and be doing something else instead. The helpful man kept asking us did someone offer you this or that already and I'm like no, the waiter never came back to the table. The busser always came to our table as well and was very attentive. When I finally got our check and was ready to pay I call over the waiter twice and he ignored us when he was literally behind us. I didn't want to leave a tip for that waiter but I know that it's pooled so I wanted to make sure the bussers and the man that helped us would get something at least. No I would come back. read more

I don't know what is going on behind the kitchen door but whatever it is, it is not good! We have been going to Della Francesca for years and always loved it. Our last four visits were disasters and we will not be returning. The brunt of our complaints concerns the kitchen. Recently my husband was served Salmon that was so dried and used up it had obviously been reheated to the point of it being more like saw dust than Salmon. I really wanted to take it to the kitchen and make the chef eat it. The mashed potatoes were cold and again looked like a reheat. My chicken dish consisted of cold over breaded chicken with what surely was canned steaming hot tomato sauce and cold lumps of cheese on top. I can't even tell you what the vegetable was. We started out with Calamari that was doused in salt and we sent it back. The caesar salad was warm lettuce smothered in cheese. Every time we have eaten there in the last 6 months has been awful but be kept returning hoping it was a one off. It is not a one off, it is the new Della Francesca. When they moved to this location they had many bumps such as it took them months to get a wine list and then they did not have many of the wines. They had a female bartender who was totally out of her element with a helper that was useless. We lived through that escapade only to now have the food go bad..., We are so done. read more
