But it's not a big gripe because the food is always well seasoned even if it isn't peppery. This is the only restaurant I can think of where I've taken many guests and every one of them said it was one of their favorites. I love this spot. They accept cards but appreciate cash.

Great service and friendly staff at this Sri Lankan restaurant…read more The manager/owner used to be a chef at the UN after traveling the world for various stints after leaving Sri Lanka at age 25. He will fill you with his wealth of knowledge of Sri Lankan food as well as how his food is pure and wholesome. Food was very good. I had Sri Lankan rice entree specialty dish. Except for the the shrimp tasting like dried shrimp - which I hate with a passion the rest of the dish was pretty good. No complaints from my other guests who enjoyed their meals. The dessert was great. They have both vegetarian (including goat, beef, pork, shrimp, squid, and chicken) and non-vegetarian options. It fell short of five stars for two reasons: 1. the dried shrimp or dried fish taste in the dish (shimp, calamari, and chicken); and 2. the moderately high prices (I can only compare to prices at Indian restaurants in the city, and what people are typically paying for the same portion size at casual sit down restaurants) Since we don't frequent this location often it is a treat to stop by every once in awhile and introduce my friends to it. If you are on a budget and consume large volumes of food to be full, this is most likely a one off or a place you may want to skip. Otherwise, enjoy it. On premise parking lot and seems ADA compliant. It looks like it is in a house, but inside it is comfortable and casual. It appears there is allot more local customers than visitors from out of town. The interior plays tourist information on Sri Lanka while the interior is also decorated in culturally appropriate ascents. We were there on a Saturday for dinner and the space was fairly empty - perhaps two other tables occupied. It is in sort of a remote area outside the main drag of Beacon most are familiar with (not within reasonable walking distance). It's worth a try, especially if you are interested in healthier forms of food (ingredients).

The food here is delicious and authentic! Friendly staff and spacious interior. I have ordered 3…read moretimes from Island Spice and it was to go. But the next time I promise to take photos! And I have ordered a few of their appetizers each time I have ordered. Next few times I will order their dishes/dinners, because they sound so good. But the last appetizer I ordered was their patisse with chicken (also have tuna and veggie ) cooked with potatoes as well. They remind me of an empanada, fried to perfection! And I ordered the 5 for $10. They also have 2 for $5. But definitely get the order of 5! Trust me, so delicious and not greasy. It does have bit of heat to it, but absolutely delicious! Bring an order to your next gathering, you will be everyone's favorite guest. I have had their chicken rolls, also very tasty and it is fried, but not greasy at all, so flavorful. And if you can handle a bit of spice, you got to order their shrimp chili paste,4 oz,roasted crushed shrimp mixed with crushed red pepper & tamarind. (for all my south East Asians, it's Like jeow bong!) for only $5! And for desert you must try their watalappan, an egg custard baked with coconut milk.

Would love to give this place a five review because the person who I am assuming was the owner was also very kind and pleasant: I was not impressed with the waiter however. Sarcastic and sort of unpleasant he made my dining experience a bit uncomfortable. I'm all for having personality but he was pretty rude and would rub most customers the wrong way. The restaurant itself is small (6 or 7 tables) and lacks atmosphere and is a bit dingy but all in all the food made up for it.

This is officially our go-to spot when we want a full-on punch of real Indian flavor. As someone…read morefrom South India, it is rare to find food that actually tastes like home--but this place nails it. The kind of food that makes you pause mid-bite and just nod. The space is small and simple--people are here for one reason only: serious, no-nonsense deliciousness. Alex, Siva, and the team are fantastic--super welcoming and always happy to guide you. They even offer two spice styles (American and Indian), each with mild, medium, and spicy. Choose wisely... or bravely. The usual dishes like tikka masala are great, but the real magic is in the South Indian menu. If you are not sure what to order, just ask--they will not steer you wrong. We have also started ordering catering for parties, and let me tell you--nothing validates food like a room full of very judgmental Indian relatives going back for seconds and thirds. At our last event, the quiet "this is really good" nods said everything. We ordered chicken Chettinad, salmon curry, aloo gobi, goat biryani, and garlic naan--every single dish was outstanding. The only tragedy? Not enough leftovers for the next day. And do not skip the filter coffee. One sip, eyes closed, and you are instantly transported home, even if it's for a little while. Moringa team--keep doing exactly what you are doing. Love it!!

Since covid restrictions lifted, we've resumed dining out but somehow forgot about Utsav. We remembered yesterday and last night we finally returned. I am very pleased to report that Utsav is still as great as ever! The food is still exceptionally good and the service is still excellent. We were the last couple left in the restaurant and rather than try to hurry us out, one of the owners and chef, Thankachan Joseph a/k/a Joe, came out of the kitchen and joined us in engaging conversation about Indian cuisine and his restaurant. It truly was a most enjoyable dining experience! If you haven't dined at Utsav or if you just haven't gone recently, you owe it to yourself to go and enjoy delicious Indian cuisine, in delightfully colorful surroundings with excellent service. If you're lucky, maybe you'll even get to meet and talk with Joe.

I wasn't thrilled but decided to give them another chance. This time dine-in. Service was good, food was decent, but I thought the prices on the menu were a bit high for a small place with minimum ambiance in a strip mall in Vernon. What really shocked me was that the prices on my bill were not the same as the prices on the menu. Entrees were $1.50 more and sides were $1.00 higher. No mention of it on the menu, by the server, or posted anywhere in the restaurant. Not huge differences - 6 to 15% increases, but I feel a bit ripped off to be shown one price and charged another. I know the restaurant reserves the right to change prices at any time without notice. I reserve the right to go somewhere else.
