I hate writing a meh review for a what's normally good place but here goes. First thing I want to say is that I know this was a good pizza when it came out of the oven. From there things went wrong. I was working last Sunday and we decided to order from Del Vecchios and when we placed the all and was told it would be a 45 minute wait. No problem, it's Sunday, there's football, lots of orders, etc. At the 1 hour and 15 minute mark we still didn't have our pie, I gave them a call and asked about the status of our order. The same girl as before answered the phone and I gave her my name and asked about the order. Said said it takes the pizza we ordered about 45 minutes to cook (we had ordered one of the stuffed pizza's) and that it was out for delivery. She apologized and said that the first girl who answered the phone when we ordered should have told us that to which my response was, you are the girl who answered the phone and took our order and repeated her name to her. She didn't like that... just like I didn't like her trying to shift the blame. Anyway she said again that the pizza was out for delivery and about 15 minutes later the pizza arrived. There were no other pizza's in the back of the drivers car so I'm assuming we were the last stop on a long run. We paid him and brought the pizza up to the office and at first glance it looked pretty darn good. Then we picked up the slices and they were basically mush on the bottom. Del Vecchios had lined the box with aluminum foil you see, to keep it hot I'm sure, however it wasn't perforated and he pizza spent so long in the car that the stream and moisture coming off the pizza turned the bottom of it into wet bread... We weren't happy to say the least. Did the pizza get eaten, it did... But we all had to scrape part of the bottom of the pie because it was just kinda wet and nasty. So heed my warning if you order a stuffed pizza for delivery, tell them not to put any foil on the bottom of the pizza box. You'll thank me later. read more

Wow...shocking really. Real New York-style pizza in Hampton Roads. I'm still in awe. I consider myself a discerning critic of all things pizza, so when I was taken to this restaurant I was skeptical. Their menu includes regular fare like calzones and stromboli--which I will be trying in the near future. The consistency is on par with offerings with pizzerias from north Jersey. The sauce and cheese are good, the pie is charred and crispy, but the crust is the downfall. The crust is a little on the thick and chewy side. I would prefer it to be thinner and crispier, but I was happy with the crunch of the pie so it wasn't a deal-breaker. Between 2p - 5p cheese and pepperoni slices are $1...$1!!! Amazing! I also sampled a veggie slice, which was also good. The vegetables will always create a wet pie but the amount of veggies on the pie were abundant and that's really what a veggie slice is all about. I will probably be back in the next day or two to try the stromboli along with a cheese slice or two...between 2p and 5p of course! There are only four tables, five if you include the working Ms. Pacman game. Pepsi is offered at the refillable fountain soooo I suggest grabbing a bottle of orange Crush from the fridge. I have been ordering from Del Vecs for years and I am sad to say after this I will never order from them again. I placed my delivery of $62 to feed my family this afternoon. They forgot my two 2 liters and a side of ranch. I politely called and informed them I had not received them and was told that I wasn't charged for them because the girl never rang them up when I called in the order. I placed the order online with definitive proof I was chaeged. After arguing back and forth on the phone for 20 minutes they agreed to send out the sodas and ranch without another 10 dollar minimum delivery fwe. Oh boy I'm lucky aren't I? I then proceed to sit down to a late lunch with my family. The pizza was great. The salad was top notch, but then I get to the manicotti. I got a lasagna noodle that wasnt even stuffed drenched in sauce and cheese. I asked the driver who delivered the sodas if the picture now on yelp entitled "world class manicotti" is what it was supposed to look like and was told yes. Wow, so yes, I agree this is a hole in the wall on the backside of building which you will easily miss even if you are looking for it. Parking is terrible even at night. That is why you only do delivery or a quick pick up. Tried their pizza one night because friend and I needed to satisfy our late night cravings for pizza. Honestly, did not meet the high ratings that so many people have given it. Not that it was bad, but just didn't meet our expectations after so much was said about this place. I would much rather have a Pizza Hut or Domino's pizza. Now, I haven't tried their calzones and that may very well change a 3 star rating to a 5 star, so this is based on their pizza! read more

This place is not but perfect, but if you want great food on a budget, then this is the place for you. I've been here many times , in fact, I enjoyed their cuisine twice this week. All together I had the calzone the del vec sampler, and the garlic knots. As I have mentioned in previous posts, the 3 ingredients to a good restaurant experience are food qaulity, price,and service. First, I will discuss the food qaulity. I've had pizza in chicago, I've had pizza in new York. The calzone I had at Del Vechios is one of the best I've ever had. The crust was perfectly crisp. The cheese was high qaility, well melted, and there was plenty of it. Also, the meat and vegie were of high quality and were quite tasty. Furthermore, I enjoyed the garlic knots as the we're pretty much what you would expect, garlic ,bread and a ton of butter. As for the del vecs sampler, it included classic fried foods like chicken tenders and jalapeño poppees. Simple, high quality, and delicious. Secondly, the price. This restaurant is located near ODU and the food is priced accordingpy. They have daily specials and there regular menu is fairly price. Each item I mention was under 10 dollars. In my opinion , it was well worth it. Last but not least, the service . Thus why Del vecs is missing one star. Don't get me wrong, the staff is very friendly and they seem to work hard. However, I have had expenses where I've waited over 20 minutes for my pick up order .mind you, this is,after waiting 20 minutes to leave my house. My thought is, if you say 20 minutes on the phone, I should be able to come in 20 minutes and get my food immediately. Perhaps this is a management issue. Del Vecchios' pizza is very good. We order a meatball and pepperoni. Meatball were sliced (not half - eighths) and evenly spread. The lasagna was ... well ... yuck! The bottom noodles were burnt and I asked to add sausage which they put half sausages under the cheese. These were gray and half raw. Yuck! We asked for the Lemon Dessert - Out. If you go stick to the pizza and a cold beer everything else is a hard pass. read more

I didn't feel like cooking and I was in the middle of working on some assignments so I didn't want to go out anywhere to get food so I decided to get some delivered to my apartment on campus. Someone told me before about Del Vecchio's (a student favorite) so I figured I'd give them a try and ordered some pasta and a tiramisu. After I placed the order, it said I would be ready in around an hour, but it arrived over 30 minutes earlier than what they said it would! Although, it is a Monday night and it's after typical dinner hours so I'm sure they weren't really that slammed with as many customers, however I was still 10/10 thoroughly impressed by the fast delivery service (+ the tasty food of course!). We ate at Del Vecchios after an ODU football game. Fortunately, they are open late and it was clear this is a favorite for fans who frequent games and students who come with friends and their families. This isn't a five-star Italian restaurant, more like a dive which is what makes it so special. The relaxed scene brings patrons of all ages, large portions and value. You can eat lots here for cheap. And, the service is great. Pizza is the most popular item and it's waves better than your typical fast food pizza chains. The Traditional, NY Stuffed and Chicago Style Stuffed are all good. Come with a group and order two! They also have specialty pizzas. When you add the choices there's something for everyone whether you're a meat lover, veggie or a mix of both. Hands down, a great place to grab a pizza. While we didn't order a calzone, the table next to us did and they looked awesome, perfectly cooked on the inside and crisp on the outside. We did, however, order a salad and agreed there's nothing to complain about. They are filling, the dressings are good and lettuce was fresh and crisp. I can't imagine anyone not enjoying a meal here. It's a perfect place to relax, hang out with friends, eat a normal or late dinner and end the night stuffed without spending too much money. I ordered a Stromboli with chicken and pepperoni, which was very delicious. It came with a side of marinara with a perfect portion to to finish the whole dish. My girlfriend had spaghetti and meatballs which she enjoyed but could not finish (not a bad thing). The garlic bread was not great but not bad either. It was squishy and moist, but still good when combined with the pasta sauce and meatball. The lemonade tasted like brand lemonade, not sure which brand though. The only downfall was the water that tasted like it came from an unfiltered tap. read more

It was just sausage. When I called and asked them to credit my account for next time or to have the correct item delivered, they told me they had to receive the pizza back first. I used to love Del Veccs but this is out of hand. I ordered the ohana/Hawaiian pizza and there was no red sauce on it at all. Sooo much yes. If you're planning on eating here, make sure to make room for a nap immediately after. Their ny stuffed pizza is everything I wanted in life for days when I need a little extra comfort. Their crust is sooo buttery and fluffy, I cant even find the words to describe how amazing it is. Their fried pasta, mozzarella sticks and chicken strips are the perfect appetizers to share while youre waiting on your deep dish to bake fresh! Food is generally good, I have gotten unfilled cannoli's where they just put some filling on the ends to cover the holes but the inside is completely hallow. Any time I order take out it takes an hour and a half to get to me and I only like about 5 minutes away. If you eat inside in their dining room, it also takes a long time to be waited on.
