WOW first time stopping here on my way back from Vegas and oh my goodness this Del Taco did not disappoint. I like the nostalgic feeling you get inside this particular restaurant they have some decorations showing it's the one of the first Del Taco's and the history. The food did not disappoint, my "Barstow Taco" was filled with meat and cheese it was insane. Overall 10/10 might have to make this a mandatory stop on the way to or from Vegas. read more

On the way to Vegas we stopped at the original Del Taco location in Yermo which is now just a vacant lot of Burger Den. Then to the oldest operating Del Taco in Barstow. The founder, Ed Hackbarth sold all the Del Taco location but kept the 3 in Barstow in the family. They have items that modern corporate Del Taco doesn't have like Barstow Classics (Bun Taco, Barstow Taco, and Barstow Chicken Soft Taco). Their portions were also noticeably more generous with the ground beef and mountain of cheese. Too much cheese that I scraped half off. Tomato toppings were also whole slices not diced. More like a garnish of one slice. They didn't have the value menu but who needs value menu when everything was so huge! They have Weds Taco Night from 4pm-10pm offering 3 Barstow Tacos for $5.85! What a steal! We ordered the Burger Bun - Taco meat, lettuce, tomato on a soft burger bun. Also got Chicken Soft Taco, I prefer the value chicken soft taco that's smaller because I get full fast. The Barstow Taco is a crunchy hard shell taco. Reminds me of taco nights at home. Loved that all the sauce packets were on every table for easy access. Never been a fan of the Del taco franchise, but a family member told me that I had to check out the original location in Barstow that is individually owned. Now there are three original locations in Barstow and any of those three you'll find the original old school recipes/menu. Well, I'll be damned this place delivered on all levels. Taste price and quality. Super affordable and you don't have to question the mystery ground beef meat like you might at let's say Jack-in-the-Box or Taco Bell. The crunchy tacos a.k.a. Barstow taco is loaded with ground beef and topped with a hefty amount of cheese, so good and filling and only $2.90. They even have a fried fish taco and a beef burrito or macho beef burrito that is again LOADED. They have three levels of hot sauce: mild medium hot Only the mild original hot sauce is made without high fructose corn syrup. Just goes to show you how back in the day. The quality of ingredients were much better than they are now. I would definitely return to any of these three OG Del taco locations for some loaded beefy goodness that doesn't hurt the wallet. read more

I keep hearing about the original Del Tacos. Going back n forth from LA to Vegas, I finally stopped. There are 3 locations in Barstow, but don't know which is the first. Menu has some other items, then your chain del taco like a bun taco, which I didn't try. I did get a combo cup, which is basically seasoned ground beef and beans in a cup with a side of chips. The ground beef hits different. It is a different taste from the chains. I love how they have stacks of taco sauce, neatly arranged on each table and tubs at the front counter. I love del taco's mild sauce. The perfect spice and mild heat. I do love me some HOT sauce, but the mild sauce, I can drink by the tub full! It was a nice stop. My passengers made fun of me for stopping, but that didn't stop them from eating. I just wanted to visit somewhere that I haven't. Adventure is out there and you make it yours! read more

This was recommended to me by a family member, and i'm glad we made a stop. We tried the asada burrito, street chicken taco, and hard shell taco, and everything tasted much fresher than other locations and packed with more ingredients. Also tried the carrot cake, and it was moist and at the perfect level of sweetness. It was also a fun stop to learn a little more about the history of Del Taco. Ok! As a Del Taco aficionado I do suggest stopping in at the original Del Taco! Just a couple miles off I15, take Main St. to 1st, turn right and it's like beacon welcoming you! I wasn't all that hungry but we decided to stop here before we even left Las Vegas. The menu? Not your average Del Taco menu! Hubbs had the Barstow Taco Salad and fries (better than the ones at the Golden Arches in my opinion). I had a Barstow Chicken Taco. Look at pics! Holy Cheese! The service was quick and friendly, the people who work there seem to know it's somewhere special. There was a person in the dining area cleaning the tables, so all of the tables were clean and ready for guests. The food was tasty and the iced tea is delicious! THE Del Taco of all Del Tacos! For those that don't know, there are 3 "OG" locations which are not franchise but individually owned. The first location is in nearby Yermo, CA but I have always preferred the location on 1st St compared to the others (also one in Lenwood). I always find this one the most consistent and easy for parking, etc. I get it, this isn't a Michelin or 5star date night meal. This is Del Taco. It's the BEST Del Taco. That's why I give it 5 stars. Staff is friendly, inside is cleaner and portions are bigger. What isn't there to like about that? You don't even have to ask for sauce since they so elegantly present them on each table. Believe the hype, y'all! We were skeptical that Del Taco could be anything more than Del Taco, but this location is another world! When we entered, we felt the vibes, seeing happy regular customers and locals chatting with each other, the cleanliness, and the enthusiastic and laughing staff. The menu is slightly different than your average Del Taco menu, but you can actually taste that they are about the quality of the product here. No, the food will not blow you away, but it is certainly better than all of my other experiences with the Del Tacos around. We loved that they delivered our soft serve order at the end of our meal, and it was delicious! The restrooms and dining room were spotless, and when I went to pee, I forgot I was at a Del Taco. The sauce packets were organized nicely on every table and fully stocked. One of the local construction workers saw me taking a photo of the timeline on the wall and said, "He even comes in to work now and again," referring to the owner. Highly recommended! This is the oldest Del Taco in operation, one of the original locations, and serves the iconic Barstow Taco, which was absolutely fantastic and a must-get. A fresh crisp tortilla, tasty ground beef filling, and cheddar cheese make this outstanding. And make sure you get the Hot spicy sauce. Also loved the strawberry lemonade with actual strawberries! Service was friendly and helpful. Ambiance in the drive-through lane (which I visited twice!) was typical American drive-through. One of the remaining restaurants still owned by the original brand owner. Well worth the drive just to say you have been. It is off Main and, if you should get lost, the directions to this Del Taco restaurant is on one of the old buildings in town. I ordered two Barstow Tacos and a Green Burrito. Tacos and burritos are my usual go-to Del Taco orders. The Barstow Taco is huge! The crispy corn tortilla is at least a third bigger than the regular taco and easily double the meat and cheese filling. A slice of fresh tomato also comes with it. The tasty flavor was the same as other Del Taco locations but you can only get the original taco configuration at the Barstow locations. The Green Bean and Cheese Burrito is longer in size like the ones I ate in the 1980s while in high school. It had plenty of cheese and green salsa. I wish they still had the same hot sauces that were available back then as the current ones in the packets don't have the same flavor. The drive-thru has its own dedicated driveway so just go past the one that is the restaurant parking lot entrance. Service is fast and efficient. Go inside the restaurant if you want to look at the murals that are on the walls describing the Del Taco history and timeline. Afterwards, continue on 1st Avenue over the bridge to see the other historic sites in the vicinity like the Harvey House and Railroad Museum. read more

Staff her were some of the nicest fast food employees I've ever encountered! You get a partial restaurant service feel here, with table numbers being called for you to pick up your foods. All the sauce packs are available at every table! We came to this location on our way home to LA from Vegas. BF was "influenced" to try the Barstow menu lol. I would say... The meat was less flavorful and the only difference was having a fresh slice of tomato on top of the taco vs diced tomatoes. I was on a road trip with my close friend from Atlanta, to Las Vegas then Los Angeles. Their looks like the advertisement picture unlike anywhere else. Sadly as many of times I've been from Los Angeles to Las Vegas I've never stopped here because I don't like small Taco Bell size portions so I typically pass fast food places. Del Taco has three "original" locations in Barstow, California featuring special items not available at the other over 500 locations. The original location was located in Yermo, California and you can visit the Original (no longer a Del Taco) at 38434 E. Yermo Road, Yermo, CA. On this visit I had the Del Taco which offers a tasty shell that is crispier and fresher here. I found the ground beef to taste the same as all of the other Del Tacos. I also had a Spicy Jack Quesadilla. The taste was very good, and the cheese was tasty. If you visit it, go inside. They have a really cool interior. The prices are higher than your local Del Taco, and I don't think you can earn points here for free food. I tried adding my receipt to the app and had no luck getting points. A big bright spot is the staff. Everyone here is middle aged, very friendly, and they all seem very experienced. So, if you're driving in the 15 north, or south, drop in and have a taco, burrito or bun taco. read more

We finally made it to the oldest Del Taco! Not sure why it took this long since our fam really likes Del Taco - way better than the other taco chain. Of course, we had to order a Bun Taco and Barstow Taco, their delicious fries, and we also tried their Carnita burrito with beans. This was our first time trying the Bun Taco - it was really good! I especially liked the bun it was on - it had a nice sweetness and it was loaded with meat and cheese plus it had lettuce and tomato. But even though it was tasty, I think I'm a creature of habit and I enjoy the crunchy taco better. So fortunately we also got a Barstow Taco. It was a crunchy taco shell PACKED with taco meat and cheese, lettuce, plus it has a sliced tomato on top rather than the chopped tomato - it was so good!! My hubby and son ordered the Carnita burrito with beans (*you can get it with or without beans) - my husband said that next time he would probably get the burrito without beans - his was a little heavy on the beans - but it was still good. Definitely not too spicy - it had a real good flavor! And KUDOS to this location for having hot and fresh fries! They were perfect!
