Amazing service! I initially requested a quote by email and received a response very quickly. We scheduled a meeting and Edgar came to my home to show me the fabrics. I didn't find anything I like initially and Edgar brought more and recommended some that he thought I would like. He is absolutely right! I first used Deko to upholster a vintage chair and was pleased with the results. I decided to use them for an antique MCM Adrian Pearsall sofa that basically required rebuilding of the frame. It was costly, but understandable due to the project. What isn't understandable is the service I received. It took him way longer than quoted to actually finish the sofa, and upon delivery he said he wouldn't be able to take it down to the agreed upon location (basement) and suggested that me, my sister, and elderly mother do so. My sister refused and then he found help to take it down, with a mandatory tip to the movers, despite paying for delivery on my order. To get it downstairs they removed the sofa from the frame and reattached it downstairs. I'm not sure if this is what caused the issues or not, but since then I've been contacting Edgar for repair of my sofa. When he responds he promises to come by, but never does. Going on six months of this, I give up. I would do a chargeback if I could, as I'm going to have to pay someone else to fix his mistakes (pictured). He pushed me to allow him to restore the wood for an additional $300, so I said sure. The problem with that is that nothing was done. I can't recommend taking valuable projects here. read more

I bought a very nice and expensive couch from West Elm and the bench cushion was very firm, not what I was expecting and NOT what I experienced in the store. I did some research and got 3 quotes. Deko was the most reasonable and provides house calls, which was very important to me since I don't have an SUV to transport the cushion to their store for an evaluation. Edgar came to my house, evaluated the cushion and provided a great price. He provided a few different options of materials and worked with me until I found one that I liked. I inherited a beautiful midcentury modern dining set from my grandma last year, but the chairs were completely falling apart. Edgar took the frames and over the course of a month his team completely transformed them. Deko did an excellent job recaneing a bench seat and making a bed skirt with the fabric I provided. I needed the seat of my kitchen banquette and a daybed reupholstered and Edgar promised to get back to me to schedule pick up which he never did. He is impossible to respond to texts to schedule the additional work. Very frustrating. Forget about phoning him because he doesn't answer the phone. Therefore I had to reach out to a more reliable company. It's unfortunate and seems as if he is not interested in my business even though I always paid him immediately when he delivered my pieces. I just had Deko work their magic on some recliners I purchased on Craig's List. I had been looking everywhere for a recliner that I thought was attractive and comfortable. I knew the La-Z-Boy recliners were quite comfortable, but they're also quite expensive, especially if you want to get them in leather or any other designer type fabric (at least $1200 each). After looking for awhile, I found some recliners in the style I liked on CL and bought them. They were in pretty good shape, just some wear from the former owners' dogs. But, they were all wrong in terms of color. So, I called Deko. After shopping around for several estimates, I decided to chose Deko because Edgar assured me he would do an awesome job and he had one of the best quotes I had received. Deko didn't charge me any hidden costs or anything, and they did pick up and deliver the chairs free of charge (which is great because they are HEAVY). Edgar was true to his word; Deko obviously takes pride in their craftsmanship and it shows in the finished product. The recliners I have now are higher quality than ones I could have purchased brand new, but we much less money and are exactly what I want. I am a happy customer and will use Deko again... I am going to do a lot more furniture shopping on CL, I think! There is only one slight downside to Deko and that was that they took much longer than the time I was originally quoted. Edgar originally quoted me 3 weeks and it ended up taking 6. I was a little disappointed with that, but everyone else I talked to quoted me 6 weeks anyway, so I don't feel like I'm any worse off than I would have been had I used anyone else. Since I think the work was great, I can deal with that and it won't keep me away (I just know better for next time). read more

You hand the man a sofa bed and he hands me back a dream! I had a sofa bed in my office for about 4 years now. The stupid thing was literally falling apart on me. The materials were cheap and lint kept clinging on to the material regardless of how often I cleaned it. However the design of the sofa was exactly what I wanted so I didn't want to just dump it. This review is about a year old, but better late than never. I contracted Deko to reupholster some dining chairs. I think Edgar had a lot on his plate at the time so getting a hold of him wasn't easy at first, but I eventually walked up to his store. We selected new fabrics and cemented a plan for the chairs then and there. I received the chairs about a month later, and final result couldn't have been better. I waited several weeks before writing this review because I wanted to give this business a chance but their customer service is horrible. Back on May 10 I called Deko to get a quote on how much it would be for them to reupholster my patio furniture. A man by the name of Edgar answered the phone and advised that I send him a email with what I wanted and he could provide a quote. A week went by and I still had not hear from him so I called back and refreshed his memory on who I was, what I was looking for, and advised him that I sent an email. To my dismay he never even looked at the email. While on the phone, he finally located my email and said that he would take a look at it and get back to me. Never heard from him. On June 8th, I sent a follow up email trying to get some feedback from my original email and he has yet to reply. It's been almost 2 months trying to get a simple quote from this establishment. I'm extremely disappointed with the lack of basic customer service skills at this place. I really wanted to give him a chance after looking at the positive reviews but clearly Deko/Edgar doesn't need my money or business. So I will take the hint and look elsewhere. read more

GOOD TALK, BAD JOB. IRRESPONSIBLE. Edgar took my 1 year old couch to upholster. He came back to tell me it's better to remake one after he took my couch apart. He sold me and I placed an order to make not one but a set of 3 pieces. When it was delivered after long aggravating communication. That was nothing that I expected. Worst of all, my 1 year old couch is gone. Nothing to salvage. Then working real hard with Edgar for 1.5 years to pursue correction on my new couches. I finally settled with about 40% of correction. I ended up spent way too much money for this mess. I reported to BBB to file a complaint but I did not have enough documents because Edgar never gave me the official invoice. Everything was written here and there. Well!! If you people want to go through what I went through, good luck to you. read more

Yes, Deko appears to be a great resource for upholstery needs. And if you have a cheap piece of furniture or something you just need to be serviceable fast, it IS great. They are inexpensive and have a pretty quick turnaround. However, if you care at all about what is going beneath the surface, or attention to detail, you will want to look elsewhere. There is usually a good reason why the prices are so reasonable. When I dealt with Edgar a few years back, he did a few pieces for me. I asked for (and paid for) new interiors as well as the new upholstery. If you dont know what "new interiors" means, it means they are supposed to replace all foam and padding with new, and also tighten any springs or webbing while they are inside. When I got my items back the new fabric had simply been upholstered over the old material, nothing was tightened or replaced at all. Some of the piping was sewn incorrectly so it wasn't straight. An important change I wanted to the back of a sofa (to reduce the number of buttons on the back) had also been done incorrectly. When I complained they tried to tell me that to redo it - to the way I asked for it originally - would cost me additional money. I stopped using them after that. Seriously, pay a little bit more and have it done right the first time. You wont regret it! read more
