Really can't say enough about how talented these people are. Swivel chairs I thought beyond repair look and function better than new and the solid brass trim on them looks as if never broken. Like a dream,,,, Accommodating too. Ordered a chair slip cover. Received, perfect fit, correct fabric. In my mind it would go to the floor but I never said that. Cover stopped at the top of the legs because they're good looking legs. Susan graciously had the few inches added AND didn't charge me more. If she cursed me after the door closed I deserved it!!. On the way back from a wedding ceremony, I found three gorgeous Danish modern chairs in our alley. Although I was in a very, very, very adorable black satin Corey Lynn Calter dress, I jumped out of our car and dragged them into our garage. (Then I fed my pets, freshened up, and drove to the suburbs for the reception, but that's neither here nor there.) They sat in the garage for a month or so while I figured out fabric and got estimates from several upholstery joints around town. I got some lowball estimates-- mostly around $175-200 per chair, but with very little explanation of what was included in the upholstery process-- as well as some ridiculously high estimates. I was most impressed when Covers Unlimited replied not only with a very fair mid-range estimate, but also with a thorough, friendly explanation of what would be included (new foam, tightening springs, refinishing wood) and what might end up costing more (new springs if they discovered the original ones were too far past their prime to salvage). We decided to have one chair done, see how it turned out, and then decide what to do with the other two. When I dropped the chair off-- warning and full disclosure: I found it a little bit difficult to maneuver my car in their very tight parking garage, but, whatever, I didn't have to pay to have someone pick up the chair and it's not that hard to put on one's big girl pants and deal with a couple of ill-placed columns-- Kevin made me feel incredibly confident. He double-checked the direction of the stripey fabric I'd selected for the chair (duh, hadn't thought of that... just assumed they'd put it on the way I saw it in my head), asked me how I wanted to refinish the wood, explained the reupholstery process, etc. He also let me know that they were in the midst of an unusually busy time and that, under normal circumstances, a job like this would take two weeks, but I should expect three. Just under three weeks later, I got a message saying that my chair was ready and that it was BEAUTIFUL. I took an afternoon to drive down to Pilsen, renegotiated the slightly scary parking garage (not as scary the second time), and picked up my FREAKING DROP-DEAD GOREOUS, AMAZING, BEAUTIFUL chair. I didn't think the wood had looked bad or the seats saggy before I dropped it off, but I was wrong. Dead wrong. The refinished wood gleams, and the seat is perfectly plump and comfy. Oh, and they added little plastic feet to the legs to protect my floors, as well as a dust catcher across the bottom of the chair to prevent dust from escaping the inside of the chair. On the way out, Kevin and Carey noticed a little nick in one of the chair legs. They pulled up a seat for me, took the chair back to the shop and had the nick fixed before sending it back down to my car. During that brief wait, I chatted with Kevin, who-- in a totally unpretentious way-- really drove home the fact that the company does business in a super-fair way to both their customers and their employees. I got the distinct impression that I was doing business with really fair, decent, honest guys, and I'm excited about taking the other two chairs to be reupholstered. And, who knows? Maybe after the next wedding I'll find the perfect alley sofa to match our Covers Unlimited-enhanced alley chairs... read more

After finally finding the right couch for me on Craigslist, I also started shopping around Chicago to compare quotes to have it reupholstered. From the get go, Covers Unlimited offered the best price, the best service, and the most thorough explanation of their services. While other companies were offering me $700 to reupholster and lead times of 6 weeks, CU offered me $575 and a lead time 3 weeks. My decision was easy. Impulsively, I threw a lot of random pics their way via screen shots from my Craigslist app and Sarah was ready to give me quotes for all of them. Finally when the time and budget was right, I brought in my beloved couch and they got to work. Also, a great perk was that the Discount Textile Outlet was close by in Pilsen. After checking out their shop, I was able to swing by the outlet and pic out just the perfect fabric I had in mind. Everything went smoothly and their services were like a dream. I came in to drop in the fabric I ordered and go over final details before I brought my couch in. Sarah had every picture of furniture I had ever sent her. She was so prepared and to me that meant a lot. They offered delivery services too for just $125 each way (drop off and pick up), but I decided to forgo that and rent a Zip Cargo van and enlist the help of my boyfriend. Just FYI, they only take cash or check, not open on weekends, and their hours are 7-4pm. I'm much more of a night owl so it took a little bit of maneuvering of my schedule to pick up my couch. I got a mid-century sofa on craigslist I wanted recovered. I checked out the work of a few upholstery shops before finding Covers Unlimited on yelp. Based on yelp reviews I went with them even though I had not seen their work. My sofa arrived yesterday and I would give them 6-stars if I could. No other upholsterer's work looked as durable nor as precise or detailed as the finished piece we got from CU. Kevin excels at customer service. He returns phone calls and emails promptly. Explains things clearly. It is kind of like hopping in a time machine and going back a few decades to an era in which good customer service actually existed. I visited their shop twice so they could show me my sofa in progress. They explained various frame, fabric, and cushion options and how each option would impact the way the sofa looked, sat, would wear in the future, and how it would impact the final price. The shop was clean and their workers seemed happy and treated with respect. When they tallied the final bill it came in under the cost of their estimate. How often does that happen? They charged $945 to take the sofa down to the frame, tighten up the joints, do all new 8-way hand-tied springs, tighten the spring platform, and upholster it with welting, buttons, and zipper cushions. They also did a fantastic job of retouching woodwork. I think their price was very fair and their workmanship outstanding. read more

I was referred to Covers Unlimited by a friend of mine who is a furniture maker. He uses them for any of his projects that involve upholstery. Cary @ Covers Unlimited was really personable and went the extra mile to make sure i was happy. They have stunning attention to detail and their work is flawless. They were originally volume or business to business before but are now starting to take on more consumer business. I live in Belmont-Cragin and there are a bunch of upholstery places within walking distance of our house so i thought i would give a few of them a try for some prices. None of them seemed any less expensive than prices ive gotten in the past so i decided to call Covers Unlimited. They were less expensive than the other places around and much more friendly. The downside for me is that they are just south of downtown but it was worth the trip for the value of work that i got. Plus they are a few seconds from the highway so it isn't a huge deal. The chair and ottoman we had recovered is one of our favorites so i was glad to see it was so well taken-care of. It was completely repadded (this is one thing that good places do, and cheap ones don't. make sure you ask) and any of the loose springs inside were repaired. The legs are exposed along the front (danish modern) and are a dark walnut color. I was not expecting them to refinish the legs but they did and they look amazing. I hadn't ever realized they were bad until i saw how nice they looked afterwards. They also added nylon feet to the bottom of the wooden legs which was a nice touch. Covers unlimited does great work for great prices. It is worth the drive to take your most cherished furniture there. At the very least it is worth a call or email. Cary was great about answering questions and very prompt with returning my emails (this is a big deal to me). read more

I had cushions and an ottoman recovered. Cary was great to work with, very timely with responses, his team did a great job and priced well. At the last minute I needed help recovering the seat of the chair too, I brought it in when picking up the other items and they did it on the spot. I waited 15 minutes and they were done. Cary and his team at Covers Unlimited did an unbelievable job on my sun-room furniture. I brought in my partner's grandparents rattan sun-room furniture that we have had for a long time. We never had the right cushions for it (somehow got lost along the way) and had been using over-sized pillows. I met with Cary and explained what I was looking for in terms of custom made cushions and he showed me possible cushion sizes while his team measured the furniture. His prices were very reasonable and he sent me on my way with some excellent options for finding the fabric. He said once I returned with the fabric it would take about 2-3 weeks to complete the job. I found lovely fabric that did not cost me an arm and a leg (thanks Textile Discount Outlet!) I dropped off the fabric on Monday and my cushions were done on Friday!!! What?!?! I know they were working on big jobs and Cary said if they could fit in my cushions- they would but I was blown away that they not only finished in record timing, the job they did was beautiful (seriously beautiful), such a great price and back in my home looking so totally awesome! I can't say enough about this place. I dealt with both Cary and Kevin at different times and they are both fantastic. I had a 1960s vintage, burnt orange, chair that was my Great Aunt's...it needed a makeover. It was important to me to retain the integrity of the chair, its original design, and to even select a fabric that was true to the era. WOW! I can't say enough about their knowledge, their helpfulness, just everything was top notch all the way through: 1) They gave me a prompt bid over email after I sent photos. They held to that bid even when I finally decided to pull the trigger a few months later. And the bid was completely fair. 2.) They told me about some awesome discount fabric stores but when they saw my chair in person, they also showed me a fabric they happened to have on their floor (they don't carry many at all as they stick to their business of upholstery, but they have a couple). They thought of it because it had the vintage vibe I was going for -- it was perfect -- sort of a reddish tweed that looked true to the 1960s. They cut me a swatch since I still wanted to shop for other options. I couldn't find anything that I liked more, and they sold it to me for $10/yard! An incredible deal. 3.) The final product!! I knew it was going to be good, but it was even better than I thought it would be. First of all, they finished it exactly when they said they would. So, again, they were true to their word. They absolutely maintained all the original design with it's scalloped arms and button tufted back and ribbing around the edges. It's like a brand new chair that somehow still looks authentic and not like a knock-off. It's comfortable. It's flawless. I can't even tell you how thrilled I am, and it was far less than if I had purchased a knock-off at Room and Board or some other store. I highly recommend them -- don't even consider someone else. They are true professionals (they do a lot of commercial work, industry work for designers, etc), and they are more than fair. Also, listen to their advice when you're picking fabrics. They may not be designers but they know what they are doing just based on experience. They will help steer you away from fabrics that really won't work on your piece...just trust them. Kevin and Cary had great suggestions of what material to use and I was able to go to Michaels and get the material super cheap based on their calculations of how much material I would need. I drove the cushions to their building, which was very easy to find, and they met me downstairs to pick up the cushions and material. In less time then they estimated, they were done with the work. I went to pick them up, and Cary brought them downstairs to me. The cushions look fantastic, and they also must have worked on the inside padding because the cushions are much better to sit on. My husband and I bought an old armchair from someone on Craig's list. We liked the look of it, but the springs were gone so we knew the whole thing would need an overhaul. We tried to go to a nearby furniture restorer, but luckily for us, it was closed on weekends. I decided to do a little research and found the local place had terrible reviews. But then I happened upon the reviews for Covers Unlimited here on Yelp. So we decided to give them a try. We had bought really expensive William Morris fabric in England just for this chair. I called CU to find out their hours (limited, and not weekends, so call ahead) and chatted with Cary. He put me right at ease, and my husband and I lugged the chair down there (near Chinatown). Be aware that this is not a regular commercial store, but an actual loft (imagine working in a warehouse and not living in one - snark!) in a large building with other businesses in loft spaces. It stands alone on 18th St., and you have to pull your car right up to the garage door to get it to open to the parking area. Anyhoo, we handed over our chair and fabric, got a quote, and went on our way. The guys were going to touch up the stain on the woodwork since we liked the color. Turns out the chair was full of surprises, not the least of which was that the back was tufted underneath the old upholstery. The guys let us know that some buttons would have to be put in the back to make the fabric sit correctly. Fine, fine, that's good, we said. When we went to pick up the chair, we were delighted. Beautifully done, better than we'd hoped for. The wood looked as if it had been refinished (even though it hadn't - that's a touch up job for you!), the fabric looked fantastic on the chair, and most importantly, it was comfortable to sit on. And if you're not comfortable in your reading chair, what's the point? And all for $275. Altogether, a great experience with a really nice bunch of people, trustworthy, honest, and nice to work with. Its not often you come across a place where the customer service is so good that you look for reasons to give them business. I've been on a serious decorating kick lately and wanted to recover the ugly chairs that have been sitting in my basement for the past 3 years. After researching online and comparing prices, Covers Unlimited seemed to be my best bet. Kevin greeted me right away and had someone assess the job for me. Kevin is friendly, excited about upholstery (tough to do), but more than anything, comes off as being a truly sincere business man. I was plotting writing a review after my first meeting with him because I thought he was so great, but I figured I should wait until I saw the furniture. Have fabric, need fabric, wanna check our fabric, they have all the options. We dropped off the pieces and picked them up, but they can arrange to do that too.
