Brought 6 dining room seat cushions in for new foam and new material. The choices of material swatches were at least a thousand to go through but the swatches were large enough to see how it would look on one of my chairs. And the swatches were organized by colors so it wasn't difficult to make a selection. They did a fantastic job and my chairs are very comfortable and look like new. The price was very reasonable. I brought in the cushion of a leather sectional that had a huge mark on it from leaning my head against it. Apparently the oils in your hair can affect the color of the leather. In any event, they did a beautiful job restraining and matching the color. They said they couldn't guarantee the work as the oils may have gone through the leather but it looks like new so I hope it lasts! read more

Back in November of 2023 I posted on Nextdoor to inquire about top recommended upholstering companies in my area. We needed to reupholster and fix our dining room chairs. I looked at several reviews and recommendations. I had a few that were real close to my house but it was Universal Upholstering that stuck out because I'd been in that strip mall and had not noticed the business before. I called and spoke with a woman who told me to come in and speak with Leon. He is very professional and QUICK!!! We had 6 Drexel chairs completely reupholstered. If you choose a fabric that he has on site the turnaround is quick. My 6 chairs were back home in three days. If he has to order the fabric it will take a few more days. We paid a fraction of what we would've paid if we replaced them. We needed them right away and Leon delivered. He is old school which means he stands by his word and his work. We had four kitchen chairs reupholstered this past January. We noticed this October that the fabric on two of the chairs was pulling apart at the seams. We brought the chairs back in and was told that the material they sell is not warranted and they they take no responsibility for any fabric they sell. That it is stated on the bill of sale (be aware of this). They offered for us to pick out new fabric for free from remnants that were left over from prior jobs. That was ok but we had to pay the labor charge again to replace the fabric on the four chairs which is contrary to what is also stated on the bill of sale. So ask what the labor warranty is and for how long. A week, a month, six months etc. We were considering having several leather couches reupholstered next year but will consider other vendors. read more

I would never recommend this company to anyone. I had a repair claim submitted by Domicile Furniture on 10/20/2020. I did not receive a call to schedule until February 4, 2021. I was told the very first available appointment was on 2/19 between 9am-12pm. No one showed up during this time, so I called and was informed the technician was not able to make it. They had me reschedule for the next day between 11-2pm. Again no one showed up and I was informed the technician was running late and would call me 30 mins before arriving. I am still waiting on a call. I do not appreciate people wasting my time. If I ran my business this way, I would not be in business. read more

I have had three things repaired by them --all three were done expertly and very reasonable. Gave me great advice on two outdoor patio tables, and a chair that the leather had ripped on. Dimitri told me that none of them were worth the cost to repair -- he said use that $$ to buy new tables and a chair. An honest opinion--what you want to hear--as he could have said he could easily repair them. We purchased a non-returnable king size upholstered shelter-style headboard that couldn't clear the 90-degree turn in our staircase. The delivery men had to leave it on our main floor. Within 24 hours, Universal Upholstery came out to remove the upholstery, disassemble the inside of the headboard and meticulously put the whole thing back together on the second floor. I have a estimate in writing from the Internet for 168 per chair. I sent six pictures showing how I wanted retaining of the back of my chair. I told him I wanted to do the job and he said oh that's an estimate it's not the actual cost?? First red flag. I have all this in writing. I brought the chair in today and he doubled the cost?? You'll be the judge. I've sent pictures of this chair for rekeying the back and he wanted to charge me double. I have it in writing at 168 a chair. I can't believe what they tried to do. Just beware an estimate is not what they charge so don't waste your time on an estimate if you're going to use them take it in. I can't judge their work I just judge their dishonesty read more

This is the 3rd time that we have used Universal Upholstery for our furniture repairs. Time one was + 15 years ago, for renewing the color of our large Henredon leather sofa and chair. Outstanding work. Time two was a repair of the same Henredon sofa and chair in 2020 as our cat had damaged the leather. The repaired pieces look brand new. Most recently, July 2021, we reupholstered a fabric office desk chair and had a fabric window cushion made. The work was exceptional and the look of the new chair and cushion are both beautiful. I had this company come out to look at my recliner couch as the mechanical recline system was not fully closing. The guy came, told me it was the motor and-it needed to be replaced. They called me back to tell me that they didn't have the motor and needed to order it. About a week went by with no phone call or email. I emailed to inquire what the status was on the part cost. The reply was they don't order parts unless they have inspected the piece, which they did. I Replied stating that we had the couch inspected and reiterated that we were waiting on the cost of the part. No reply from the company, it's been a total of about 3 weeks now. In my late model car with high mileage, drivers seat foam was sagging on the left after all the driving, and getting in and out. Universal got back to me with a quote to repair the foam within a day. Their scheduling lady, Audrey, was very efficient and friendly in setting up the appointment for the repair. They told me to leave the car for the day. The foam repair was complete within a couple hours, and was perfectly done by an experienced professional as I requested. The car is much more enjoyable to drive now. Universal Upholstering was the recommended upholstering company my furniture warranty provider scheduled me to use. Scheduling someone to come out for the repair was very quick and easy, but that's where the niceties end. The repairman from Universal Upholstering Inc came to fix my couch. My mother drove in from over 30 minutes away to be there for the appointment, because I had to work during the day. The repairman was there not even 5 minutes and said that he could not fix the arm on my couch, because of the piping. He didn't ask to see the replacement arm fabric he just took a picture and left. The replacement fabric I had received from my warranty company is for the whole arm and has piping included. He was also very rude to my mother. Once he left my mother called me to tell me what he had said to her. When I asked if he looked at the fabric she said he didn't even ask to see it. I called Universal Upholstering not even 5 minutes after the repairman left to get him to come back to look at the fabric, which has the piping for the couch. The man on the other end said the repairman refused to turn around and come back to look at it to see if he could fix it. He wasn't even gone for 10 minutes. They now want me to schedule another appointment for someone to come out. This man wasn't even on the road for 10 minutes. He could have just turned around, but instead they want to schedule another day? This kind of service is deplorable. read more

I have been debating between 3 and 4 stars, but have settled on 4 stars and here's why. Two Men & a Truck have a contract with Universal Upholstering to repair damage caused by their incompetent and very poorly trained moving crew. During a recent move, Two Men damaged 5 pieces of furniture, 4 of which are very high end, heirloom-quality pieces. Universal Upholstering actually did a pretty good job in repairing the variety of nicks, dings, gauges, scuffs, chips, etc. They took great pains to do their very best to match paint colors, finishes and techniques to make the repairs blend in as much as possible. And, for the most part, they were very easy to deal with. I would also like to mention that Universal's moving crew moved the 5 pieces back once they were finished and they did an outstanding job! They treated the furniture as if it was their own. The only area that can be improved upon is communication. At times it was a bit difficult to get updates on the progress of the repairs. I think this was partly due to the fact that Two Men was the actual client and they were being most disagreeable. I think it put Universal in the position of trying to be the servant to two masters. So, all things considered, I would highly recommend Universal for their high level of skill and true craftsmanship. It can be very difficult to find a company that takes pride in its work, and Universal Upholstering really seems to do just that! read more
