I adore Dejon Vineyard. It is a small-scale boutique feel vineyard with a close-knit family feel. Out of all the wine establishments in Maryland, Dejon has some of the best staff members. Always so kind to patrons and passionate to share their wine facts. If you are coming out this way due to following the wine trail--come here before going to Boordy. It tends to get packed and since they have limited parking spaces, you'll want to head here first. If you're on a budget, checkout Groupon for their wine pairing deal! Tips: You can bring your own food to enjoy. Before heading their way, check their calendar to make sure it isn't being reserved for a private party. Live music every Saturday from 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM (bring a blanket or camping chairs). No pets allowed. They sell local cheese. read more

Just Peachy! My favorite wine here! I first learned of DeJon while recently attending a Secret Gardens Wine and Music Festival in Carroll County. The line was super long and I didn't get a chance to try it. I decided to look up DeJon and made the drive up here. I made it a goal to explore more local vineyards and I'm so glad I came here. It was on a Saturday afternoon right after they opened so there was plenty of space available. My trip here was pleasant. The staff was super friendly and it was easy to chat with them and learn more about DeJon. We sat under a tent and tried several different flights and while I'm not usually into sweeter wines, "Just Peachy" ended up being my fave! Got a bottle of it to share. Price was fair - $16! I visited on DeJon Vineyards this Saturday. I did not expect too much since driving up it is a smaller winery than what I am used to visiting. It was right next to a home that I assume is the owners house since their driveway connects. Once I went inside it was quite lively with a guy playing guitar and singing to entertain those inside. They have outdoor seating as well. I ordered the red flight, $10. I liked their Festivus wine the most out of all the red wine options. Not a big fan of all the other options though. I also liked the Sweet Denise which I was able to try since it came with my husbands white wine flight. That one actually won an award. Their wine is pretty average, but I did end up bringing home a bottle of the Festivus. It reminds me of the Apothic red which is one of my go to wines. read more

Solid experience. Unexpected pit spot to a nearby garden. I enjoyed the ambiance. They did have a tent down that was damaged due to windy weather. Today was really fun. I thought the price and offerings were fair. This was probably an experience I would only do 1 or twice here. Mostly because I thought the food spread could be amped up. I would say it is a very hit or miss with a narrow wine selection. To come for just a new experience though, I was satisfied. Some friends and I decided to visit Dejon for the first time during their Harvest Festival ($10 cover). In addition to the gorgeous surroundings, there was a cover band providing live music, craft vendors, a hayride and a food truck. Our group brought folding chairs and a blanket and secured a nice spot outdoors on the lawn between the stage and the vineyards. Due to covid, they were only selling wine by the bottle (no single glasses) so we took a chance on a few bottles of various reds. The wines we're all slightly sweet in taste but overall good. I'd highly recommend visiting Dejon Vineyards for an outdoor, covid-friendly family or group activity. The estate is really beautiful and spacious. For our group, it was just nice to get out of the city for a few hours and not have helicopters circling over our heads. read more

This was my first time at DeJon Vineyards and the entire experience was marvelous! Upon arrival, we were directed on where to park in a nearby field. Then we walked into a white barn where there were tons of tables all spaced out and staying COVID safe, live music, and a little bar area where you can purchase bottles of wine. We brought our own little picnic food and purchased bottles of wine to split. We had the Malbec and Chardonnay first, then got a bottle of Rosé and Merlot, then finished off with a bottle of Pinot Grigio. The fan favorites of the bunch were Pinot Grigio, Rosé, and Merlot! Highly recommend this place for catching up with friends, celebrating an event, or meting up for a date! Already planning to come back in the spring when the weather gets warmer! read more

I'll be honest in the very beginning of my review-- my experience at DeJon Vineyards was the first wine-tasting experience I've had in the US, so perhaps I'm not the wine connoisseur that fellow Yelpers may be looking for. That being said, I don't think anyone would argue with me when I say that DeJon Vineyards is a lovely place to spend the afternoon. My friends and I had traveled out to Hydes after someone spotted a LivingSocial discount, for four people to wine taste for $10 (it's usually $20). The wine tasting takes place in a renovated barn (on the owner's home property), which is open so you can see the fields of grapes all around you-- very relaxing! There were another two groups there when we were, but the owner of the vineyard made sure that everyone was satisfied as he explained each of the house-made wines. A number of the wines we tasted were 2010 award winners in the Winemasters' Choice competition, so I guess my unskilled wine-tasting abilities weren't too far off the mark. After the wine tasting, he offered us reasonable prices on both the glasses ($5-6) and the bottles ($14-20). He also offered to give us a brief tour and explanation of his wine-making process, showing us the machinery and giving us a quick "wine-making for dummies" course. It's a really relaxing venue to come out and sip wine in the countryside-- and although it seems far from everything, it's really only about 15 minutes from the heart of Towson. DeJon also hosts bands on Saturday evenings, much like nearby Boordy Vineyards, but on a much smaller scale. I purchased two bottles, both summer-y white wines, but I wouldn't be opposed to going back and stocking up on some of the darker wines once the summer comes to an end. this winery opened in 2010 and hasn't had any real good luck since then. They experience blight one year and frost another and will not be using their own grapes for years to come. The facility is very inviting (nice, big white house and barn) but the tasting room in the barn is very plain with little or no character. That said, the owner was cordial and filled us in on where his grapes came from and what wines he had to offer. Not a great selection but I hope he can follow his passion and, with a little luck, start to make some decent wines. read more

I feel like this place has a lot of potential. Stopped by here this past weekend for the first time and unlike the vineyard down the road from this one, I actually enjoyed some of their wines. The tasting was $7 per person and we got to keep our glasses. The lady giving us the tasting was really friendly and knowledgeable about the wines. Unfortunately it was way to humid inside the place to stay and enjoy a bottle of wine. I do like the whole barn style feel they're going for but my experience would have been a lot better if there was some AC in there. We were informed about a summer concert series they have, but there is a $10 cover charge per person (yuck!). The wines are decent. We did not have a good experience. Perhaps the bartender was going through something but she was not welcoming. She did a good job of pointing out the vineyards short comings in a negative light. Although the website says it is family friendly, my 2 year old niece was scolded for walking through a small area containing grass seed. There was no sign or indication that grass was planted. My boyfriend and I spent a relaxing evening here wine tasting. There was a live band playing that evening and we happened to walk in the door just as the song ended. The couple on the dance floor shuffled over and made a bridge for us, we ran through it and the whole place applauded. It was great! What a crazy unexpected entrance! We chose to do the wine tasting for two, which came with a sample of all of their wines and the wine glasses to keep. The wine tasting was fantastic! Brian was super friendly and very knowledgeable about the wines. We ended up getting a bottle of our favorite, Sweet Denise, and having it there. The place is a spacious but cozy feeling barn. We sipped our wine and chatted while we watched the band pack up. Overall a great place! Much more personal, relaxed and intimate setting. I will definitely be back! read more

I went with a few friends for a tasting. I had stumbled upon a Groupon for the vineyard and decided, why not? The wines were delicious! Especially their Festivus (red) wine and Sweet Denise (white). The venue is a cute, spacious barn with a patio and a tent outside (with heaters!), along with an outside area with a fire pit and picnic benches. You can bring your own food and they had a vendor on site. We purchased a bottle and a few glasses at the venue and took home 3 bottles (since I no longer live in that area). The live music was amazing and the staff was extremely knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly! We will definitely be coming back in the near future. read more

I came here for their wine tasting for sister in laws birthday. The vineyard seems small and basic. They have a large barn where they serve the wine. You could easily hold a large party or reception. There was one group there who brought their own food which which would have been a nice option. The owners were the ones serving the wine and gave nice information about each wine. They had a lot of sweet wines which is nice if you like that. I'd definitely recommend visiting this vineyard for the wine and nice souvenir wine glass. read more

This is a new vineyard. They just opened their doors about a month or so ago. We checked them out while we were in the area yesterday. The wines are decent. Often I find the wines can be a bit offensive at first when a vineyard first puts them out. These were pleasant. The Chardonnay had quite a bit of honey flavor to it. The Chamborcin and Merlot were milder reds...but pleasant. These three wines were ok. The two tops were the Vidal and the Sweet Denise. Both are made from Vidal grapes. The Vidal here has to be one of the best Vidals I've ever had. It was VERY good! The vineyard is run by a couple and the wife did our tasting...she was very friendly and nice. Like I said, the Vidal was amazing!! The other three wines... need some time... but definite promise here!! read more

I'm not quite sure what to make of this place. On the outside, the place looks like a nice farm. Organized vineyard, big white house, a couple of white buildings (I wouldn't call them barns). But you wonder where the wine and wine tasting is. You see a couple of cars parked in a small gravel lot, so you follow suit. You park the car and get out, look around, and assume that the people leaving the garage-like structure are showing you that that's the direction you want to go. So go we did. And awkward it was. I stepped into a sparse and poorly decorated building. Tacky pictures hanging, mismatched furniture in a non-charming way. The tables were basically plywood scraps situated on top of some other bulk item. There were maybe 3 other small groups there, all women. They were sipping their wine(s) and looking around, almost like they were looking for an escape or something negative to chat about. Either way, the atmosphere was impersonal and flat. The same goes for the owner(?). He had no passion for his product and it showed in his conversation when we inquired about the wines. The actual wine tasting took maaaaaaaybe 5 minutes. He was quick about it and didn't have too much to say. You'd think he'd have some history or some story to share with his customers while they sipped away on his hard work. Or maybe not. The quality of the wine was sub par. It was bland, not well made, and there was a lot of residue left in the glass. I'm assuming the straining process didn't go as smoothly as planned. To make this long story short (or rather to end it abruptly because I just don't feel like talking about this anymore), it was a disappointment. Nothing about this visit was exciting or interesting or tasty...and that's kind of what brings people there, right? And brings them back... C'est la vie, I suppose. I'd suggest hitting up Boordy Vineyards just down the road. If you're going to spend money on wine, you might as well make sure that you're getting your money's worth. read more

Not only was he very knowledgeable about the wine, he was personable and gave us great recommendations of other places to visit while in Baltimore. We did a winery tour and came her to buy wine. Out of all the vineyards we visited in the area hands down for us this place has the best wine. We loved the grounds a Boordy's, and the food vendors, but not so much the wine. This place is a dream for those of us who like sweet wines. The atmosphere was nice and the people were friendly. The Sweet Denise, Festivus, and Just Peachy are absolutely amazing wines! If you are in to wine but particular enjoy sweet red and white wines this place is a must. They also had live music and places to sit if you wanted to just enjoy a class or a whole bottle. We all walked away with at least two bottles. I came here with the gf on dreary Saturday afternoon when we found a LivingSocial coupon for $5 wine tasting for 2 plus the glasses. The location is lovely and the main venue is a decently sized, cozy barn where we found live music and a surprising number of people given that we arrived only an hour before close. Our wine tasting was facilitated by Brian, a family friend and long-time wine enthusiast who knowledgeably answered all our questions and gave an informative background on each of the wine samples. Despite having three groups of two at the wine tasting bar, the service was great and not overbearing. All in, full price for the experience would definitely be worth it and I expect to be back later this summer. After the wine tasting, we bought a bottle of Sweet Denise (think Riesling) and each drank a glass at the tables as the band finished up for the afternoon. If I'm interested in a picnic I'd probably lean towards Boordy Vineyards down the street but I'd pick Dejon for an intimate date or small group outing. read more

Went here for live music on a Saturday. Nice setting and band was fun. The problem is their wine. We bought a Pinot Grigio and Rose. The PG was terrible. Undrinkable. The Rose was slightly better. I get that people like sweeter wine and there needs to be places to fulfill that need but at least make the wine drinkable. This was not. It's among the worst wine I've ever had. read more

This is a fairly new winery from what I understand, and while you can tell that from the wines, the service couldn't be better. On our visit we were greeted warmly and as we were the only people there, got some individualized treatment. The owner, and I guess winemaker, went to great lengths to explain how he decided to start making wine and where he received his wine education. The friendliness almost made the wines taste better. The wines overall were fine. I suspect that making wines in Maryland is difficult, as there isn't a rich tradition and the climate could be better. DeJon winery does its best to overcome this by making wines with grapes that fare best here in Maryland. Although i normally prefer dry reds, the whites here were really the standouts (and by standouts, I am referring only to DeJon wines, not wines in general), as the Chardonnay was a relatively pleasant wine that I could imagine drinking on a warm summer night. The Vidal was a bit too sweet for my taste, and also a little bland, with that much sweetness - which in fairness to the wine isn't my specialty, I think I would have preferred a bit more flavor. The reds were alright, and again this is a newer winery so it is possible they will become even better, but for now they are fairly average wines. Of the reds, the Merlot was the oone I could most imagine myself drinking. Overall, it was worth the trip to Dejon, and if you enjoy wineries, then I wouldn't skip it. I suspect the wine will be even better in the future, if the passion the owner showed during our visit is followed through. read more

What ever you to do NOT try to have your wedding here. I tried to have my wedding at Dejon because of my friends who were planning their wedding there and told me how inexpensive it was, only 100 an hour. I thought wow that's a great deal too good to be true and it was. I email one of the owners to get some information and then I was told that the price was not 100 an hour but 350 an hour! Confused I told her about what my friends were paying and she told me they were miss quoted and were so post to be quoted at $125 because they weren't have their ceremony there. Ok so I'm going to have a 15 min ceremony and being charged 350 an hour for the whole night just because I'm having a 15 min ceremony. I thought ok well they must be doing an awful lot to make it worth the 350, NOPE they won't do anything, they won't set up anything or help at all, the only thing they will do is pore their wine. They also wanted me to rent porta potties for my wedding, they only have one bathroom for EVERYONE to share. I would never ask my 150 guest to wait in line all night just to use the one bathroom or to use porta potties, that's just ridiculous. I had asked her if we could do the 350 for the first house then 125 for the rest and 6 months later still no response. The vineyard is cute and the wine is pretty good, but they are terrible for weddings, it is not build for a wedding and the price that they are trying to make you pay for doing absolutely nothing is ridiculous. read more

I've been looking at some new venues for events and had seen the sign for DeJon Winery on the way to work. I stopped by there this afternoon. The owner, John, was sitting in the tasting room doing some work. He gave me a tour of the buildings, rustic, and tastefully decorated. The view is amazing. I can only imagine how tranquil it must be to enjoy a glass of wine and then listen to a concert. The maximum capacity they allow is 200. This makes it more intimate as opposed to Boordy (another excellent winery down the street). John sounded almost surprised when he mentioned all the awards his wine has won given the short period of time they have been open. Since I had to get back to work, I couldn't sample any (no swishing and spitting for me), but I will be holding several events here in the near future. I look forward to showing this place off to my friends. read more

The folks in charge at DeJon are so great! We had some scheduling issues, but they accommodated our party without any trouble and even when we were running a little behind. We had a great time during our tasting and ended up taking a few bottles of wine home with us. I like that they're so close to Baltimore but still in an area rural enough to feel like an escape. There were a few groups of people milling about but it was by no means busy. The people at the tasting table wouldn't make eye contact and seemed annoyed that my friend an I were there. We paid our $12 bucks to taste the flight then two tastes in (.5oz pours) we are informed they are out of 2 out of the 6 in the lineup, disappointed. I am inquisitive about wine especially when visiting a winery and my questions were clearly unwelcome. I was given very short answers or just a 'huh' response. Then it got even worse when the taste we were served was corked! When I politely informed the guy of serving a bad bottle (it happens, no biggie) his response was 'how would you know'.
