Pete's Kitchen on Colfax -- Where Extraordinary Food Meets Extraordinary Humanity…read more
Some restaurants leave you remembering the food. Others leave you remembering how they made you feel. Pete's Kitchen on Colfax gave us both, and an experience we will never forget.
After spending a wonderful day together, my girlfriend, my 11-year-old daughter, and I were looking forward to ending the evening with a delicious meal at Pete's Kitchen. Unfortunately, on our walk to dinner, my daughter was the victim of a random act of violence that shook us. What should have been a joyful ending to a beautiful day suddenly became a frightening and emotional experience for our family. However, amid an incredibly difficult situation, we encountered something extraordinary: the very best of humanity.
Between speaking with an incredible Denver police officer and compassionate, empathetic EMS personnel, we were also met with an exceptional level of kindness from the staff at Pete's Kitchen. Our wonderful server, Alexa, and an extraordinary kitchen employee named Lavelle, went above and beyond to comfort my daughter and help restore a sense of normalcy to an otherwise distressing evening.
Without hesitation, they went above and beyond help my extremely distraught daughter. Buy, what made their gestures so meaningful wasn't what they gave her. It was the genuine compassion, warmth, and care behind every interaction. And their kindness didn't stop there. Throughout our entire dining experience, they continued to check on us, demonstrated heartfelt concern, and made my daughter feel safe, welcome, and valued.
As adults, we cannot always protect our children from the cruelty of the world. But we can help them recognize the extraordinary goodness that exists alongside it.
That evening, the Denver police officer, the EMS professionals, Alexa, and Lavelle collectively reminded our daughter of something profoundly important: that even when someone chooses to cause harm, there are people who will immediately step forward with kindness, compassion, and a willingness to help. And what a beautiful lesson that is for an 11-year-old to carry forward.
The food at Pete's Kitchen was absolutely exceptional, but the true highlight of our visit was witnessing hospitality in its most meaningful form. Alexa and Lavelle didn't simply provide excellent customer service. They demonstrated genuine humanity when our family needed it most. To the owners and management of Pete's Kitchen: Please recognize these remarkable employees. Their compassion reflects the very best of your establishment and the Denver community.
To the Denver police officer and EMS professionals who helped us: Thank you for your professionalism, empathy, and reassurance during a frightening moment. And to Alexa and Lavelle: You may never fully realize the impact your kindness had on our daughter, but we will remember it for a very long time.
In a world that can feel increasingly divided and unkind, experiences like this remind us that compassion is not merely a sentiment. It is a choice we make in how we treat one another. And that evening, some truly wonderful people chose compassion.
This is the love our world needs right now. This is the humanity our children deserve to see. And this is the kind of kindness that restores our faith in one another. We came to Pete's Kitchen expecting a wonderful dinner. We left with something far more meaningful: perhaps there are a few who cause harm but there are far more who help us to heal. It gave us something that we may be missing in our lives a truly renewed our faith in the goodness of people.
Five stars for the food. Five stars for the service. Infinite stars for the humanity.
