I contacted Defend Pest Control based on the reviews here and thought I'd add my own, specifically reflecting on his integrity in this situation. I live in an old historical part of Baltimore and came home to the lovely surprise of a thick swarm of flying ant-like insects all over the property. They were congregating around the old wood piles, so I was certain they were eating it and called up in a panic. (I had never dealt with a pest issue before and I was terrified at the thought of something possibly eating my recent purchase). So I called and he asked me to text him a few pictures. Turns out it was just citronella ants. (Generally harmless and definitely don't eat wood.) He could have easily taken me for a ride in my naivety, but he didn't. I'll take expertise, honesty, and integrity in a heartbeat. I'll also have him first in my recommendation list for others or in case I have an actual problem in the future. read more

I called this pest control that answered their phone, was professional and courteous. Although he doesn't handle squirrel removal he gave a solution that fixed the problem. He suggested having trees cut that allow roof access for squirrels then referred me to a company that removes squirrels. I set the appt fir tree trimming and squirrel removal. Although I didn't use his card meant if, and when I need pest control I will surely use him. His customer service and "communication skills" are unbeatable. Ed personally answered my phone call and listened to all my issues regarding mice/rats. He entertained a few things before coming out and then when he came to our house, he actually gave us free rat traps and said that there would be no charge because he did not see any evidence of rats at this point, and we were doing everything that he would have told us to do. He is a delight to work with, and we have decided to switch from a well respected company and use him from now on for all of our pest/insect issues, I cannot recommend him highly enough! Along with car repairs, plumbing issues, and places to get your phone screen fixed, looking for an exterminator already tells you what kind of day you're having. We got hit with fleas a few days ago. It wasn't much fun and we knew from past experiences that we needed a pro. When our regular exterminator didn't have space to fit us in for another week when we know things would have gotten significantly worse, I checked Yelp and found Ed and his son Ed. I left a message and Ed Sr. Called me back within a few minutes. He asked me some questions and said he could fit me in the next morning. Score! His quoted price was significantly lower than our regular place, and when I had a question later in the evening I shot him a text and he called me right back and it was definitely after business hours. Absolutely love Ed. My kitchen was overrun with ants and I was so stressed out. In the past, I've dealt with a "national pest control company" and was less than satisfied. I had Defend take care of a large wasp nest next to our back porch. Ed responded quickly and came out the next day. We bought a new house and had Ed come out to do some pest treatment. He quoted us a very reasonable price for a one-time preventive treatment inside and outside, as well as quarterly treatments if we were interested. He was on time and very thorough in his treatment. He identified a few issues- ants in a storage area and evidence of carpenter bees that had been missed in our inspection- and took the time to point them out and explain everything to us. He gave us tips for maintenance and even left us with a handful of sticky pads to use in our garage to reduce the number of bugs that make it into our lower level. Th worker came to the house, demanded $350 only to attract all the mice from the block of row homes to our single home. We started with one mouse and now have whole families living in our kitchen and our radiators. He put bait in places there were no mice and now the mice are coming out of every crack and crevice. He did not fill the wholes and cracks he said he would, and the mice go in and out of them. Finally, his traps have not trapped a single mouse, overall an abysmal failure. I have used Defend in the past and just like the last time,I was very satisfied with the results. Not too long ago,I started seeing what I thought were tiny roaches in my kitchen and pantry area and Mr.Ed came out and confirmed they were German Cockroaches. Ed came for a German Roach problem at my house. When I first called, I left a message and he responded promptly. He was very personable on the telephone, and gave me a thorough, easy to understand explanation of the process and cost. When Ed came to the house, he called when he got there (great for pet owners), and came right in and got to work. He was at my house for about an hour. He baited, placed traps, and sprayed the perimeter to seal off entry spots. He asked permission to go upstairs. Again, very thorough. Ed met with me at my 2-unit rental property that developed a bad mouse problem. He was upfront about what needed to be done and also was not afraid to tell my tenants himself that they needed to declutter. His plan to get the infestation under control included two visits after I ensured the tenants tidied up a bit. Not only does he do the usual bait, poison, etc, but he closed up every little hole he could find that might be an access point. There of course is no guarantee that my tenants will *never* see a mouse because of many factors, but the mice aren't running the show anymore! My SO and I have been dealing with a pest problem in our unfinished basement. Can't talk enough about Ed! He's the best! He came out a few months ago to help with a rat problem in my ceiling. I had used another company prior and they charged twice as much as Ed and had crappy results and attitude. I had just bought a house in Baltimore and wanted to do a little bit of demolition in the backyard. For some reason, Baltimore City requires that a pest control professional visit to site to inspect for rodent infestation prior to demolition, and so I was on the hunt for someone to take care of this for me. Some other people I contacted first either had nobody who could do the inspection for at least a week, or told me they would need to set traps and wait a while and basically waste a lot of my time and money. So I hit yelp and found this company, run by a super friendly guy named Ed. I called him up and he informed me that he could do the inspection by the end of the week, and gave me a very reasonable price to do it. I gave him my address and expected to hear back within a few days. A few hours later, Ed called me back and let me know the inspection was done and everything looked fine. He emailed me the city inspection form, completed, along with a bill for the previously agreed upon amount. I can't speak to his abilities as a pest control professional, but I will say that his level of professionalism throughout our entire transaction, along with the confidence he projected, leads me to believe that this guy is your best bet when in need of an exterminator in Baltimore. read more

I read the reviews on YELP before calling this company so when I called Ed answered and was very professional and we set up an appt. On 6/13/15 Ed called me a half hour to confirm the appt time. I didn't get the message and I called an hour later to reschedule but he accommodated me anyway.
