Allergen-free and vegan options. Outstanding service! Even when I used to live in Danbury, that wouldn't stop me from making the long commute up here. They always have several vegan options, including, but not limited to cookies, cupcakes, pastries, muffins, etc. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. After I came back for a second time, they knew me by name. Even after not going there for a few months, they remembered me and were both kind and genuinely happy to see me return. Dee is the sweetest, she's even offered me free samples on occasion! I've even gotten vegan cakes here and they are so good you'd never know they were vegan. My favorite treat is probably the vegan raspberry breakfast bar. It's delicious! The woopie pies are great too. Highly recommended and the prices are fair. The cakes can be a little pricey, but considering they are gourmet and allergen-free (depending on selection), they're well worth the cost! read more

Great customer service and the bakery items are beautiful. I had a chipwich in store and we had previously ordered a cake. Unfortunately both were disappointing. We did have the cake a day later and it was extremely dry (after leaving it out for the recommended time), the frosting was also very sweet. Maybe it was just an off day? I would definitely visit again and try something else. They do an excellent job decorating etc., however the taste was underwhelming. I might also be spoiled by the other vegan options. 1.) Just to warm you up: It was my birthday, and I figured I'd get a cake from the place that was always consistent. 2.) Cake: I ordered a chocolate fudge sponge cake with coconut frosting on the inside and side and toasted coconut on the outside. This was recommended by one of the staff there. I did not like this one Sam I Am, I did not like this Free-Egg cake that's bland. Nah, it wasn't bland, but it didn't taste fresh. Also, it tasted just like how many people would taste the a gluten-free product to be..................like crap. The chocolate sponge part was somewhat dry and the frosting was too sweet. 3.) Bread: I bought the bread, and I thought it was okay. Wasn't the best, but it's definitely typical of Gluten-Free bread, but I definitely have had better and tastier Gluten-Free bread before. 4.) I was very disappointed with the baked goods I purchased at Dee's. The cupcakes and cinnamon buns were dense and bready. The frosting was hard and overly sweet. I have been gluten free for over 10 years and these remind of what GF baked goods used to taste like. Techniques and ingredients have improved and there is better out there. Nature's Grocer in Vernon, which has unfortunately closed, sold cupcakes that were spongy and light as air with melt-in your mouth whipped frosting. They were fresh too - not cold and hard. Dee's is without a doubt one of the best bakeries around. It specializes in gluten free baked goods, and makes them so well it doesn't seem like they are!! I went to Dee's for the first time last week and was pleasantly surprised by the amount and selection of baked goods and the kindness of the staff. Everything is made daily. (Check out the Dee's Facebook page to see what they've mixed up that day--the pictures will entice you to go and will make your mouth water!!) They offer a wide range of treats, from unique flavor cupcakes to cookies and bars to pizza. The coconut pineapple cupcake--top with a slice of pineapple--was so delicious and light. The tastes of each treat are just enough and do not overwhelm you. The blondies, filled with a hint of dark Belgian chocolate bits, melt in your mouth. They are so, so good!! You definitely must try one. I haven't had a blondie that has tasted so delicious and is so light!! Everything is so fresh and so delicious. It is all made with natural ingredients and leaves you feeling good after you treat yourself!! The staff at Dee's is simply wonderful. They are extremely kind and very hardworking. When I went in for the first time last week, several of the staff welcomed me as soon as I walked in, quickly helped get my cupcakes, and helped me to check in on their app (Perka). (This app allows you to accumulate points to use for more treats in the future--a great reward system!!) As you pay for your treats, you can see right into the kitchen, with the cooks mixing together goodies. The quality of the baked goods is simply outstanding, as is the staff. Mom has an unusual condition - lactose intolerance combined with an intense love for butter-creme icing. This combination has not boded well for birthdays and other big life events that are celebrated with cake. We've tried dairy-free cakes from bakeries all over Connecticut whose products were all good... but all of those bakeries eventually went out of business. Then we discovered Dee's which has been in business for YEARS catering to those with unusual dietary issues. Glastonbury is an hour-long drive for us, each way, and the cakes are expensive, so we were concerned it could be a lot of trouble for little benefit. But Mom was worth the risk. And I am happy to say it was WORTH every minute and dollar! The staff was friendly and helpful, walking us thru the ordering process. (There are no limitations on flavor combinations, unlike all the other bakeries we've dealt with!) Decorations were no problem and no extra cost. I finally had a chance to stop here as I was passing through Hartford this past weekend! This all GF bakery (no chance of contamination, as the staff aren't even allowed to bring outside food into the establishment) is just off the highway in an adorable little house-like building (plenty of parking). The inside is small, but well-organized, making it easy to maneuver around. They offer baked goods (cupcakes, muffins, breads, cakes, bagels, etc) and to-go items like pizza and soup. Keep in mind, Dee's is not vegan, but they do offer a wide range of egg-free items (all items are dairy, soy, nut and GMO free). I found their prices were on par with other bakeries offering niche items, and the staff was very warm, friendly, and helpful! What I got (all vegan/egg-free): 1. Cake pop... the cake pop was vanilla cake, coated in chocolate and rainbow sprinkles. It was good! 2. Belgian chocolate chunk cookies... I personally loved the texture and taste of these a lot, though I'm not sure those who aren't used to GF baking would enjoy them as much as I did. 3. Blondie... I really liked the blondie bar. It was soft, rich and melt-in-your-mouth yummy! 4. Red velvet cupcake... Egh. The one thing I wasn't fond of. Cupcakes are my favorite, and I just didn't like this. I ate it, of course, but found the flavor odd-tasting. 5. Peach oatmeal bar... Very good! If I was closer to home, I would have loved to experiment with heating it up! 6. Banana muffin... The muffin was probably my favorite item. The texture and taste were both on point, and adding a bit of my coconut butter that I had on hand in the car really put it over the top! Would I make the 2.5 hour drive for Dee's alone? No (there are too many options here in the NYC area), but if I'm ever driving through Hartford again, I will definitely stop in for some treats! Between the quality of the cakes and the excellent customer service I received, I would absolutely go back here (and only here!). I ordered three different medium sized cakes for a large party. They listed off - fruit oatmeal bars, lemon bars, black bean brownies, pumpkin spice bars, cocoa red velvet cupcakes and high protein bars. I went to the bakery and was told all they had were the red velvet cupcakes. It was very disappointing and a waste of time. I left without buying anything. All I can say about this place, is wow!! I was traveling through CT and googled gluten free places and this place came up! It wasn't far off my path so I stopped in on a Friday and it was like winning the lotto.. they had pizza.. which any celiac knows is hard to find a good one. I bought the non vegan cheese one so it just had veggies and I literally ate 3/4 of it in my car in the parking lot.. fantastic!!! I also bought the vegan bread and a vegan blondie.. this is one of the rare experiences where you buy gluten free and vegan and it's actually amazing. Thank you so much for having this business.. Stopped in to try a donut and I was shocked by how good it was. I recommend the blue berry glazed ans the zebra striped chocolate donut. I've ordered from Dee's One Smart Cookie a few times in the last two years and haven't been disappointed yet. My introduction to them came about because my wife has celiac's disease and has to remain 100% gluten free. When my wife and I turned out wedding from a very private affair into a slightly-more-public one we needed to find a gluten free cake on short notice. Dee's was not only willing to meet with us for a tasting and discussion of our options but made a beautiful cake that tasted amazing. The shop offers pre-made, packaged products (like bread, pasta, etc) as well as made-on-site baked goods. The service is prompt and friendly and the staff obviously really cares about what they're doing. From what I see they make baked goods for almost any dietary restriction (gluten free, vegan, lactose intolerant, etc) and while the prices are a little higher than you'd see at a grocery store or something similar the specialty nature of what they produce as well as the quality definitely justifies any premium in cost. If you or someone you know has any sort of diet restrictions, Dee's is a great place to get some dessert back into their lives. read more

Dee's a truly a local gem in Glastonbury. I can't believe that I only recently discovered this bakery! While I am not on a gluten free diet, I nonetheless can fully appreciate the yummy goodies here. My favorite treat here is the Chocolate Mousse Square -it is so moist and thick, yet not dense at all. The flavor is unlike a normal brownie-like sweet, it is just something you will have to try for yourself! I have also tried the blueberry muffin, which I have to say is definitely better than your typical blueberry muffin you will find. The berries inside taste so fresh and the sweetness is right on! My husband has been vegan for over ten years Dee's does the most amazing dairy free, egg free goodies you ever tasted. I am not vegan I am a chocoholic I love a good moist chocolate regular cupcake. Let me tell you Dee's makes the best chocolate cupcake I've ever had bar none!! The fact that it is egg free and dairy free is immaterial they are just damn moist & delicious. So I walk in there today and what to my wondering eyes should appear but a pumpkin glazed doughnut!!!! Ahhhhhh resistance was futile I had to have it. OMG the wonderful baked doughnut spicy and moist with an incredible pumpkin glaze I'm sure my eyes glazed over in pure bliss. Best part since it wasn't egg free it was mine all mine! When I had heard there was vegan/vegetarian bakery nearby, I was so excited to try it out! I walked into the store and was greeted by a very nice man. I tried the funfetti cupcake and the breakfast protein filled bread. The bread was soooo good and tasted like a cinnamon apple nut bread. However, the cupcake was a huge disappointment. I have had lots of vegan cupcakes, but the cake and frosting on this one was weirdly hard. The frosting came off as a whole...Maybe it was left in the case too long? One of my favorite ,(if not, my very favorite!), bakeries! I've been buying baked goods here for years, and they never fail to disappoint. The ingredients have great taste and are high quality. My favorites include the chocolate mousse bar, as well as the blondie. Average price for any brownie, cupcake, or cookies range about $3.75-$4.00 average. Another poster bothered to come here to trash the business because they were required to wear a mask in the shop during a global pandemic. I wanted to come here to say: I'm so thankful that Dee's cares about the health and wellbeing of its staff and customers, happy to know they require masks at this time, and I will certainly wear a mask in Dee's and everywhere else I shop to protect myself and others. Best Cake Ever! I ordered one for my daughter's "virtual" college graduation. It was only for the immediate family but during these quarantined times, I wanted it to be very special. A big thanks to LJ who helped me to place a cake for my two year old's birthday. The complete order was customized on phone. I placed a double filling 15 inch round cake. It was raspberry filling with chocolate ganache. With the cake being chocolate, I opted the frosting to be white n red. The cake was looking neat with the colors. Let me tell you as someone who has sever food allergies (peanuts & soy) biting into a Dee's donut (mind you my 1st donut in a several years) with no fear in my mind that i could possibly have a small reaction was legit heaven on earth- and yes I would pay the $2+ for that experience again. The zebra donut in particular has my heart & the cookies are also awesome. This is the only allergen friendly bakery in close proximity to me. Gluten free, soy free, peanut free, dairy free & even egg free options. The staff is super friendly, helpful & knowledgeable about what ingredients are in each product. Yes it is a small shop and the menu is changed based on what they have available, but you can order in advanced if you have something specific in mind. They don't only carry sweets, but also bread, granola, pasta and even pizza sometimes. If you are someone with severe food allergies and a major sweet tooth this is a must stop! read more

The cake was delicious!!! My husband and our guests loved it. This is the first time I order from Dee's, I had no idea about the filling, frosting. All I know is my husband loves chocolate but he doesn't like really sweet stuff. The lady recommended chocolate garnache which I've never had before, so she got me a spoon of sample to try. It was really good. On the pick up day, we actually got stuck in traffic, called them and they agreed to wait for us. I really appreciate for what they did. I went here a once with a friend and got hooked; this is my go-to place for gluten and dairy free baked goods. They have amazing cupcakes, cakes, bars, brownies, and breads. They also do special items for holidays, so I would highly recommend stopping by their website or calling to see what they have. I get all of my pastries here for special occasions. I'm sure their cakes are delicious too, but I've found I enjoy the variety of having different pastries. WOW! YUMMY!!! This is a Gluten-Free, Dairy-Free and Nut-Free bakery, and I do not understand how she can make such incredible goodies! I am brand new to the Gluten Free way of eating....due to some really awful health problems, it's become apparent that this is what I should be doing.... Thus, one of my wonderful yelp friends, who is always 'in the know' (Ron S) sent me a link to a recent Hartford Courant review of this bakery..... http://www.courant.com/features/food/hc-gluten0402.art0apr02,0,938357.story so I decided I needed to try this place ASAP. The bakery is surprisingly open til 6pm (at least it was today, a Thursday...not sure of their other hours).... So, hub was dispatched to Whole Foods to get a few diff gluten free products for us to try, and then was going to this bakery. The breads from Whole Foods were frozen and weigh about a thousand pounds each, and are still hard as rocks, even after thawing! We got a Sandwich Bread (which could kill someone it's so heavy), and also got some English muffins (like heavy metal flying saucers).....and some dried pastas that I'm looking forward to trying......now....onto the AMAZING bakery...... In STARK contrast to what was found at Whole Foods (ie: nothing in the fresh bakery cases, even tho their website makes it seem like they have it).....Dees Bakery, had bread so piping hot (even at 4:45 pm!) that she had to put it in a special bag, and give us a plastic bag and tie to use once the bread cooled off!!!! The bread was not cheap, it was appx 7 bucks for the loaf (not sure what the loaf is called), but it is soft and tender and oh-so yummy! Even without butter it was tasty! Then,.......the MOST AMAZING find, was their chocolate Cupcakes....I am a CUPCAKE FANATIC.....and very few can pass my test. I hate the ones u get at the regular grocery store...BORING! And really, there are only a couple of bakeries that actually make decent cupcakes...Mike's Pastry in Boson, and Central Bakery in Ludlow...both in Mass.........until i tried this cupcake from DEES!!!!! Ohhhhh, i started moaning instantly, and i had only taken one bite, but the frosting was damn perfection, and the cake was soft and moist, and fudgy almost....you would definitely want a big ass glass of ice cold skim milk (i only like skim) with this delectable cupcake of perfection! How the hell she gets that kind of taste and texture out of a gluten-free, dairy free concoction is beyond me. Not only is Dee 'One Smart Cookie' but she is one helluva magician! I cannot wait to 1) try more of her stuff and 2) get to know her! She is a wealth of knowledge because she has Celiacs Disease, which is how this wonderful pastry chef, became a gluten free pastry chef! (read the Courant article link, for much more detail on her!) Excellent quality baked goods! When I am nursing, my babies are sensitive to milk protein...which you guessed it, is transferred from me to them. So, I have to be strictly non-dairy for the duration. My husband ordered my birthday cake here as I really REALLY wanted to enjoy something yummy on my B-Day. I have had their premade cupcakes in the past (when they'd just opened) and remembered they were really tasty. This cake was waaay better than those cupcakes!! The ordering process was extensive, as they are very cognizant of not only allergies but dietetic preferences. An example of this is the icing used on my cake. It was made with coconut milk, but as some people don't want coconut due to the high fat content, apparently there were several alternatives. I can't imagine the size of their pantry in this tiny shop, but somehow they pull it off seamlessly! Prices are on the higher side, but they have to be considering the ingredients used. The first time I visited Dee's I just about fell on the floor. The first thing you notice is all the yummies in the case. Then the shock...big prices. I had taken my daughter here after learning that she can no longer eat gluten and was determined to come out with something she could enjoy as well as ideas for baking at home. She picked out a lemon pound cake, veggie pizza with goat cheese, whop-pie pie, and a chocolate cupcake. I hoped from this selection that she would find at least one tasty baked good. In a nutshell: Pizza was sooo yummy that we have gone back for more. The pizza is reasonably priced and feeds two. Her favorite was the lemon pound cake. So moist and lemony with a great texture. Warning...the lemon pound cake induces cravings for more and more. We have been eating sugar free for over a year (personal choice not medical) and the rest of the desserts were just too sugary for us...but still very good and moist. The former sugary version of me would have been very pleased. For her graduation I ordered a chocolate cake with raspberry/butter cream filling and topped with chocolate ganache and fresh fruit. It was amazing! Everyone who tried it, including the gluten eaters, absolutely loved it. A relative has been baking gluten free for a couple of years and says that chocolate cake is difficult to make taste good and the texture is always off....Dee's knows how to do it! The cakes are super pricey, but when you have a very special occasion they are worth the dough and look beautiful. Yes, I was proud to serve that cake. We haven't tried them yet, but the bakery is now making "designer" cupcakes such as junior mint cupcakes, sun-butter cupcakes and is looking for suggestions. Their cupcakes are large. The also have bread, muffins, rolls and English muffins. We have yet to try those. If you need some comfort goodies and miss the texture/flavor of glorious bakery items, then this is the place for you. Eating Dee's has given me the confidence to bake gluten free at home, but when we really want a special treat or pizza this is the place we go.
