I wasn't asked for a review or anything in exchange for the cookie cake. My review would be the same if I had paid for this myself. I am, apparently, just the luckiest person on Instagram this week. The cake was delivered to our home on Tuesday morning. It was well-packaged in a sturdy box, plastic wrap, and a plastic collar to keep everything contained. Though it looks like I benefited from local delivery, I have no doubt that the cookie cake would have been fine through courier shipping like UPS. I bake quite a bit so it's always an extra special treat to have something made by someone else, especially something that's adorable *and* delicious. And this hit both marks. The cookie cake is colorful with rainbow sprinkles throughout the cookies and also used for decorating. I was slightly concerned that this would be too sweet. You know, that kind of cloying sweetness that makes your throat ache a little or your tongue feel fuzzy? There was no reason for concern. The balance of the cookie and buttercream is perfect and it's clear they've spent a lot of time perfecting that buttercream recipe to be a complement to the baked good rather than something trying to steal the show or mask inadequate baked goods. The texture of the cookie is perfection - soft enough to bite into, sturdy enough to not be mushy or sponge-like. When I initially won the giveaway, a few friends asked me for a review because they saw my entry and were intrigued. I've messaged all of them and encouraged them to either order for shipping or come visit and sit in my kitchen while we sample more goods. I'm already browsing the menu, dreaming of what I'll order for my own birthday in a few months so I don't have to bake for myself. Thanks, again, Sweet Thing Bake Shop! You made my week brighter and I'm eager to try more!

Before we fell in love with the mousse cakes of another bakery that's just minutes from home, we used to order most of our birthday cakes from Deerfields, and picked up at the location in Deerfield. In addition to cakes, they specialize in a full line of baked goods, including pastries, cookies, cupcakes, pies, danishes, donuts, muffins, bagels, and more. Recently, I needed to order a small 4" cake for the first time ever, since all of us didn't want a large cake, even a 6" cake would be too much, because I am usually the one to finish all the cake leftovers. Also, there were only about 3 days for the bakery to make the cake, our other bakery needs 7 days, and probably would not make a 4" cake. I knew that Deerfields could do it in 48 hours. I was pleased that I could order on their website, although their choices for 4" cakes were very limited. I picked a velvet cake with cream cheese filling and buttercream frosting ($30.95). However, it has 4 layers and serves 6-8, we would still have leftovers. This time, I chose to pick up at the Deerfields in Buffalo Grove, where I had visited a couple of times, and I like this location much better than the one in Deerfield. It is like a storybook bakery to me! The bakery is picture perfect inside and out, visually appealing with lots of vibrant colors and beautiful displays. When I visited, the spacious bakery was festively decorated, which was quite charming. There's also a café inside, with some tables on the first floor, and the entire cozy second floor dedicated to café dining. The café serves breakfast and lunch Wednesday through Sunday. Like many other bakeries, Deerfields is closed on Mondays. On this weekday when I came around noon, the bakery was bustling. I would give this experience 5 stars for both the cake we ordered and the excellent service we received, especially from Greg, who greeted me as soon as I walked in. The customer service team had emailed me suggestions for decorating the small cake, and I replied with my specific requirements. However, it seemed that my reply had not been read. I needed the center of the top filled with more roses so the design would not look like a wreath. In the future, I will follow up with a phone call to confirm the details. One staff member from the bake room (Brianca?) came out and explained that it could be done, but I would need to wait an hour because all the bakers had just gone on break. I agreed and said I would return to pick it up. Just as I was about to leave, Greg came out from the bake room with the good news that a baker was available to do it right away. In the end, I only spent about 10 to 15 minutes waiting, which I used to take photos around the shop. The cake turned out beautiful and delicious, moist and velvety. I myself didn't care that much for the thick buttercream frosting, but the cream cheese filling was quite good. Since we had the cake after a big dinner, we all opted for small pieces. However, all of us didn't mind eating leftover cakes the next day. When we crave for a more traditional cake in the future, we will definitely return to Deerfields again!

If I would be able to give zero stars I would. Came in here with my family to place a cake order for my son's eighth birthday and they lost the cake order. I made a mistake and paying The cake off at the time of ordering. Came to pick up the cake on my sons birthday and they had told me there was no cake for me to pick up, apologized but there was nothing they can do there is no way they can bake me a cake in the next 30 minutes in which I needed the cake. I am extremely disappointing this place honestly the only reason I come year is because it is so close to my house but honestly the cakes and desserts are terrible everything is extremely dry I also had a cousin who used to work here and she had told me the display cases that the desserts are kept in and contained mold and the manager Asia told her not to worry about it. Asia is also the woman to help me today that was not even sympathetic about the situation. Now I have to go buy some other cake at a different bakery that is 20 minutes out of my way. Horrible customer service on the managers and horrible horrible horrible tasting desserts the only thing they are good at is decorating other than that this place is horrible read more

We ordered our wedding cake from Deerfields. We started with the cake sampler, which is small portions of each cake flavor, each filling, each frosting, etc - we all sat around the table and tried various combinations until we found the one we liked best. We placed our order a few weeks before the wedding. The cake turned out to be delicious! The only issue we had was with the cake decoration - we brought in pictures and described what we wanted, and the style was correct, but the colors were off (we had asked for burgundy and light green, but we got extremely dark burgundy that was almost black, and fluorescent green). The guests commented on how delicious the cake was, so it seems like no one even noticed the odd coloring. read more

The BEST cupcakes I have EVER had in my life! I am not going to try another cupcake elsewhere, no matter how great they may look. Deerfields Bakery does a great job with their pastry decoration. However, I would suggest the owner to train their staff to become more friendly to their customers. Everytime I have been there, none of the employees would care for a smile even. It's like they're human robots, just doing their job on site. However, I have never left without making them smile at least once, for me. :) The bakery smells great everytime! I wrote a review a long time ago about an employee but didn't bother to update once resolved. I don't review often but think it's important to say the new owner took great pains to make it right for me back then and I was greatly appreciative. Just noticing I never updated the review and feel badly about it! Deerfields is nothing like it once was - it used to be known for bad customer service. Since the new owners took over about 6 years ago, it's been phenomenal service. I buy all my special occasion cakes here and they're still the best only now I'm also treated very well by ALL the staff I've had any interaction with. I love Deerfields Bakery. GREAT place to buy unique pastries. The only reason I didn't give this a 5 is because one of the older ladies at the cash register made a sarcastic comment at me. I asked if they cut the cake into fourths. She snapped, "only if you do it yourself," I said, "where?", and, with an annoyed look, handed me a plastic knife, then gestured to a small table. I was finishing a Whole30 diet and was excited to have some cheesecake and heard Deerfield had great cheesecake. I went online and saw the turtle cheesecake and it looked good. It wasn't. It didn't taste like cheesecake it was just sugar, Carmel, brown sugar and more sugar. I threw it away. The other cheesecakes look good and maybe they taste like cheesecake. But don't get the turtle cheesecake if you want cheesecake. read more
