I had cut my original review to be brief. However, seeing how Mari/James is mischaracterizing events in an attempt to mislead Yelpers, I have to now post my original draft. I was in the chair with my feet in the tub by 1:04pm. Even being 4 minutes late, still doesn't warrant the abusive behavior displayed by Mari. Original review below: *************************************** Mari is Rude. Unprofessional. Combative. Zero sense of customer service. This is my 2nd time here &definitely a bad decision on my part, I should not have come back after the experience I had my 1st time. This time around I had to leave w/out getting my nails done. 45 minutes before my 1st appointment start time I received a text from James, asking if I could come in early. I figured someone had canceled or didnt show. I cut my errands short and arrived 20+ minutes EARLY. I texted James to let him know I had arrived early as requested. I walked in and introduced myself to Mari and explained that James, had texted me to come in early. She was clearly available, but rather than say hello back, she just pointed and said "go wash your hand" when I came back out, she continued to talk to me in a sharp, snappy tone. I asked her if everything was ok, got no response. She was acting like I had done something wrong and there was so much negative energy coming off her. It was as if she was taking out whatever had happened before I arrived, on me. The whole thing was bizarre. I came 20 minutes early (I didn't have to, but I honored their last minute request, diverted my plans and went in) and instead, I was treated as if I had come in late or worse. I needed to get my nails done as I had an event and sucked it up. I kept trying to talk to her despite her behavior, and she eventually calmed down and managed to have a pleasant enough conversation that 1st time. Phew. I decided to give her the benefit of the doubt and thought maybe she had just been having a bad day, (everyone has one). The work she did was ok but sloppy. I didn't notice till I got home, or would have asked her to fix it. In any case I had already decided to give her the benefit of the doubt, and had already made my 2nd appointment before I left her salon that 1st time. So I went to my 2nd appointment. I came in and was in the chair by 1:04pm for a 1pm appointment. I know this because as I was getting my feet in the soaking tub I got a text from James saying they're ready for me and I responded to him that I was there already. See screenshot. Again when I came in there was no welcoming vibe, I got the vibe that again she was pissed about something. At this point I'm starting to question why. When I asked her, she said I was 10 minutes late, I explained to her that I was only 2 minutes late. In the chair by 1:04pm. I asked her why she was always unfriendly towards me, that this was the second time I had come in and she had acted like I was the enemy or something. It couldn't be because of time because the 1st time, I showed up early and she had also been grumpy and rude to me. She started arguing with me, said "so because you came in early last time you think you can be late today?" I pointed out to her that I was only 2 minutes late. She retorted with "you just said 1:04pm, that's 4 minutes!!" I just didn't understand the animosity and was trying to understand where she was coming from with the over-the-top negative behavior. I mean, it was totally ridiculous to be chewed out like that for less than a handful of minutes. When I pointed that out to her, she responded w/ "it seems you don't like me you can leave, I don't have to work on you." I mean, so rude. At first I was still trying to calm her down because again I wanted to get my nails done. And I had blocked the time to get it done. But she was getting more irate. You would have thought I had murdered her dog, or stolen her money. Even if I had walked in 10/15/30 minutes late, that reaction was still way over the top. I couldn't take her behavior anymore and decided to leave without getting my nails done. I told her to just take off the old gel, paid her for that (which she overcharged me, but at this point I didn't care, I just wanted to get out). I honestly don't know where Mari/James is coming off in their response saying I think I'm better than them because they are in the service business. Just a blatant attempt to mischaracterize, considering the fact that I was on the receiving end of Mari's bad behavior and was pretty calm through it all. That comment says more about Mari than me because frankly her behavior was horrendous. This is the 2nd 1-star review I'm giving on Yelp. I did not do so lightly. Customer service is a big part of the success of any business including service businesses. Perhaps Deco Nails will learn that lesson and start treating all customers with courtesy and decorum, or perhaps it will be a case of a leopard never changing its spots. read more

I have gotten my nails done before with the Japanese 3d art at another place other than Mari-san's and let me just start off and say: Mari-san is the best deal. hands down. The other place I went to (I won't post the name because that's just rude.) was over priced and the jewels fell off within 2 weeks! I had no idea it would come out to that much, or else I wouldn't have gone. The girl didn't tell me how the pricing went and when it was all said and done, I was charged $108!! for some people that may not seem like a lot but if you would've seen all that was done you would've been like WTF?! for that?? Well, after my trip to Hawaii, I was due for an appointment to get my nails redone; so i figured I would Yelp another place that would be a bit more accommodating to my budget. luckily I found Mari-san. She did my nails 41971935719 times better and with way more jewels and deco parts and only charged me $75! what a deal! Mari-san has a huuuge selection of deco parts and jewels for any occasion. And I've already pledged my allegiance to her after the first time. I had my first set for 2 months and nothing, yes that's right, NOTHING, fell off. not one jewel, not even the giant hello kitty on my thumb. So if you want your nails to look AHHmazing and have people constantly stop you to 'oooh' and 'ahhh' over your nails for a good price: Mari-san is your girl! I LOOOOVE Mari and the work she does. It's been years and I've never had any issues here. If there was a downside, it's only that Mari's too busy and popular and I have to make my appointments way in advance to get a spot. Even so, Mari has always been accommodating with the times and lets me go as early as 6am or as late as 9pm. What other nail salon will do that for you?!?! I've been to many, many, many different nail salons and Mari is the only one that I've stuck with. I always love the nails I come out with every time and always get compliments on them. I went back here for a fill-in after i saw some more myspace photos and saw that she had gotten new deco parts~~! she had a HUGE selection of plastic parts and i got sweets all over my nails, and the best part... with the fill-in and all 10 nails decorated, the tab came to a measly $50! the drawback? getting the nails taken off SUCKED. the pieces are attacted with acrylic and glue i had to get my nails soaked and then the plastic parts drilled off...it took an hour! but yea..if you're looking for chunky deco-style nails at a GREAT price, this is the place to go! read more

I love coming to Mari for my nails! I usually make appointments for crazy 3D nails but she also does simple ones :) it takes a little bit longer but so worth it. She does great work! There are so many different colors of gel or paint (I prefer gel), types of glitter, and decals/3D stuff to choose from! I've done my nails at other salons like this but Mari is more personable and less pricey.. win-win! Since it's only her though appointments book FAST. Sometimes I can get a last minute but not often. They try to fit you in but sometimes they just can't because she's too busy! Especially around holidays (ie. Christmas, Valentine's Day, etc). I used to go to happy nails but they don't do 3D art plus sometimes they would cut my cuticle with the drill so that part scares me, but Mari didn't cut me once and her drill was going like ten times the speed as happy nails haha. I cannot agree more, the woman below has had the same experience as i have... I was a regular customer with her and something came up where I could not make the appointment. I tried to reschedule, but no response. Clearly she blocks people on her iPhone that dnt comply to her ridiculous standards - I see other people commenting the same situation ! You should be nice to your customers and value them because it's those people who are creating your salary. My point: She's a diva. To start of this review, I have to state that I myself didn't get my nails done. I gave my good friend a ride and was watching the whole time. My friend had some difficulty scheduling an appointment because Mari is so booked, but eventually she got her time slot. The most frustrating part, however, was finding parking. We weren't aware that it was in a hair salon and the address numbers weren't in plain sight so we had to drive up and down the street almost 5 times before we found it. Once we were there, things went pretty well, if I do say so myself. My friends nails turned out beautifully. There were so many little charms and goodies to choose from that I really wanted to get my own nails done. Plus, it was almost half the price of where my friend usually goes and has lasted almost twice as long. I had the most unforgiving experience at this business. The owner and husband duo are the most unprofessional and unethical people I have encountered and have no level of accountability to there scheduled appointments. They both have no tact or ethic when dealing with customers. I had an appointment that I was a few minutes late to and she was aware of. As I am walking up the nail tech tells me I am sorry I have a dentist appointment and got in her car. Please note that we were communicating over text and she new I was late, but she never mentioned her dentist appointment. Not only was she rude about it but an alternative time and date was not offered to remedy the situation. Where I am confused is, if you knew you had a dentist appointment why double book yourself? A nail appointment takes up to an hour, and I still had 50 minutes remaining from my original appointment. I was denied service due to lack of proper planning and scheduling. The husband is petty and combative and kept texting me unapologetically and providing no solution to this matter. There is no point to have a business if your don't know how to treat your clients. Needless to say I will never set foot in there unhygienic business. If I could give them a negative star rating I would gladly do it. read more

I went to Mari yesterday for my first time and let me say one word "WOW"! I live in the valley and it's really hard to find someone to do 3D gel nails who actually answers the phone and takes appointments. I have a job and have limited extra time so I can't goto a nail salon and wait two hours just for someone to take me when it's convenient for them.I really appreciate that they answer their phone and take appointments and she does get booked so you do have to book in advance but let me tell you she is worth the wait! I love Maris artwork. The swarvoski crystals are still on my ring fingers and I've had my nails for 3 weeks. I also work at super cuts and I am always dealing with hair, heat, water, and other chemicals that can cause them to fall off, but they haven't. It is amazing. The one gem on my pointer finger did fall off my I am constantly using that finger to cut hair, so no complaints there. Her husband, James, is a sweetheart.
