Easy reservations on Open Table for dinner, found street parking after circling a bit. Interior was hip with an open kitchen, bar top seating, booths and a rooftop with happy hour. Service was really great ambiance inside (5/5), they also provided a starter bite and a sweet treat before the check which were nice touches. The chef had surf and turf concepts which we enjoyed. Favorite dish was the hangar steak with beef tallow fries and mindful mushrooms. The pasta was good but a little too oily for me and some of the noodles were clumped together. Everything else was delicious, I'd come back for happy hour to check out the rooftop.

Came here on a Friday night for happy hour and oysters. When we got there the wait was about 45 to an hour so we put our name on the list and went over to original 40 next door to kill some time. It was almost the end of happy hour and we still weren't texted so we went back over and they had a table outside for us just in time for happy hour. The server came over fast to put our one order in before happy hour was over. Wish we had more time to get other stuff but it was a Friday night so the wait was long! The oysters and the happy drink choices were both great! Cute vibes here! Inside was very small and intimate!

This is simply a gem of place in pretty rough neighborhood, wouldn't want to be here at night. Warm, lively and transformative the moment you walk in, reminds me of few places in NYC like Queens. The host greets you and even walks you all the way to rooftop bar and I felt bad for her. Everyone from the bartenders and servers were amazing and it's one of the best HH in the SD area. Burger was inventive and savory while the oysters were small but briny and packed with umami flavor. Cocktails all around were well balanced. A small tip, they'll allow you to bring your doggo to the rooftop too, wish I had mine with me

Dinned here for the first time for happy hour yesterday when they opened, I've been to many high end restaurants but this is the first 10/10 experience! The entire staff is so welcoming, friendly, attentive etc. The FOOD! Ambiance, vibe and attention to detail of designs is amazing! Definitely excited to come back!!

Made reservation for 7:30 on a Friday. Arrived and was seated right away. Ambiance is nice. I had a table in the back which had nice couch type seating and was quiet. Started off with wine and oysters. Oysters were delicious. Moved onto the fish crudo and tongue and clams. Both were amazing. Finished off the meal with their burger. I usually don't order a burger when going to higher end restaurant but I just had a craving and I'm glad I ordered it. It was probably one of the best cheeseburgers I've ever had. Other popular items in the menu that I saw many people ordered was the hanger steak. I look forward to returning.

First the good: The dishes were beautifully presented and most of the food excellent. The risotto was one of the best things I've ever eaten and the guinea fowl was super memorable. A few other dishes were quite good too, but those two stood out! The but: it felt like none of the little things went well for a restaurant of this caliber and this price. Service from wait staff was only okay and utensils were regularly forgotten between courses, table wasn't usually wiped down, and several other parties were ushered past us (we came in first and couldn't get the attention of the host to check in for our reservation) when we asked to be seated. Every time my drink was full I was asked about 3 times if I wanted another one, but every time it was empty, no one was around. The main problem was that we waited about 40 minutes between each course. Portions were smaller so everything was eaten within a few minutes and then we didn't get our next round for long enough that we started to forget the last course. The dinner was closing in on 4 hours by the time we were done and our bill was around $1000 for six of us. Normally these expectations would be too high, but for a restaurant charging pretty high prices and touting that they're aiming for a Michelin star, I just feel like these things were just too much of a miss. Lastly, we chose this spot for my birthday, and nothing was really done for my birthday. I don't need (or even want) any sort of fanfare, but our waitress came out and just said "we ran out of candles" when she dropped off the dessert and that was it. I liked a lot of the food and the ambiance was very cool, but I just don't think I have upwards of 3.5 hours and the amount of money I need to set aside to try again. Maybe for a party of 2 or the happy hour, but the prefix menu with a medium sized party just felt a little unprepared.

This place is catering for high-end vibes, and as such, their dishes are quite pricey... for somewhat average "fancy" foods. Came for their $12 dozen oysters on their happy hour menu, which is a great deal! HH is served on the rooftop, so on a hot sunny day, it can be a little brutal in the sun. The dish with beef tongue & clams was delish, very unique. Tuna crudo was quite subpar - would NOT order again. Their sourdough bread was pretty tasty, but again, pricey for bread. Overall, given price point & much better "fancy" restaurants in San Diego, I'm not inclined to come back again on my own whim, unless friends want to hit up their $1 HH oysters. ;)

Get the burger!

Came here for dinner on the rooftop and it was very delicious, drinks were good! I personally didn't like the wine list since it's all from Valle de Guadeloupe and California but I respect it.

I have been to Deckmans a few times for happy hour and their Sunday Roast Dinners when they had them. Always satisfied and pleased by the food and service. I just celebrated my 40th birthday here and it was aaammmmaazzing! This is exactly the superb service and flavors of a Michelin star chef! The staff was so accommodating and attentive. Tyler was our server and we had a great time conversing with him learning about the origins of the Chef's vision and other restaurants. Chef Drew Deckman even came out a handful of times to deliver some dishes and explained it to us. I was so surprised to see that! The ambiance was classy yet fun. We had the backroom to ourselves. There were 13 adults and a 3 year old. They were so sweet to my 3 year old niece making her own delicious potatoes fries dish. I really hope they don't leave North Park. It's such a gem that we need here.

My husband and I were excited when Deckman's announced they were open for lunch because we rarely make it out to dinner alone with 2 little kiddos. We went on a Friday and were so pleased to see the restaurant was bustling, almost every seat was taken. The ambiance was so lovely, relaxing cozy booths, nice music, classy decor. I'm surprised to read any negative reviews about service because our service was 10/10- very attentive and nice. My only complaint was things moved slow, but it's a small kitchen, not meant for a fast experience. They also didn't have a ton of N.A. drinks outside of soda -- I would have appreciated an iced tea or mocktail even. I ordered the ginger ale but it was too sweet so i just drank water. The food was excellent. I was worried the courses would be small but they were perfect -- we left very full! My husband got the 3 course while I got the burger. He ordered the soup to start which was devoured. The pork was great, the burger was great (just not sure I loved the seafood aioli). The fries were delicious, just some were pretty dense (felt like I was eating a straight potato). Then we wrapped things up with a delicious dessert (he got the dessert of the day and I got the ice cream). Overall we had a lovely experience and I'd love to go back for dinner!

Hanger steak

The tagliatelle and hanger steak were great. Some of the appetizers were on the more acidic side. Some flavors were overpowering. Overall the food was good, but not consistent in quality. Service was very slow. Expect to spend 2+ hours for dinner.

I went here for happy hour for the first time. We ordered two dozen oysters and they never got sent out. The waiter came out and asked if we wanted another round of oysters and I let him know we never even got the first order and he apologized and said he would check on it and never came back. I ended up walking up to the counter after we weren't checked up on although they checked on the table next to us and asked for the check. They were quick to bring the check after our two drinks but we came there specifically for the $1 oysters but never even got one order.

I am honestly surprised I have not written a review for this place yet, I found this place in 2021…read more I bring visitors here all the time, and it has become my ultimate comfort food spot. I tend to keep it simple and order the same items every time. My go to is the crispy Brussels for $14 and the chicken sandwich for $16, and I usually rotate in the parmesan fries for $10. While they do offer other dishes that are worth trying, these favorites always keep me coming back. The service and ambiance are consistently great. It is located in Hillcrest, so the area is always lively, which adds to the overall experience. The energy, combined with the quality of the food, makes it a reliable choice whether I am dining with friends or hosting out of town guests. Parking can be a bit challenging, but that is typical for Hillcrest. I usually plan ahead and look for street parking nearby.

When I asked the bartender if that was the full menu, since it seemed odd there wasn't even a charcuterie option, his response was, "which restaurant has two menus?" Not the best start. Shortly after, when we mentioned we wanted to order a bottle, we were then handed a much more extensive wine list...which also included another small bites menu. That alone was confusing and felt inconsistent. We ordered a rosado from Spain, which we did enjoy, but overall the experience didn't match what you'd expect from a wine bar. The bottle wasn't chilled, and we noticed others in the restaurant had the same issue. Service was also lacking. The bartender never checked back on us, despite us sitting right at the bar. Overall, not the experience we were expecting. I'd recommend saving your money and going elsewhere.

Being a sober girlie, I've heard about this place for years and was thrilled to finally try it so we had to order a few drinks. There's nothing quite like being able to look at a drink menu and know you can order anything from it because it's all sober friendly. They have a CBD infused drink part of the menu, a kava section and a mocktail drink section along with a food menu. The food looked delicious but we came here for a night cap after eating dinner nearby. We snagged 3 drinks- I need to check my notes on which ones we got but they were all so good. This is the type of place you can come here for a first date, date night worh your partner or co-work with your laptop. I saw all varieties of people who were doing their thang and it felt comfortable. The theme is inspired by Mac Miller and the decor is intentional and classic. Word on the street is that the 2 female owners had some disagreements with their investor so there's somewhat bad blood and that's always a bummer to hear people especially those in the sober community not be able to resolve their differences after they've made such an incredibly safe haven for us to enjoy. I get it though, some business partners are bad choices but y'all have made a beautiful experience here and I'm so grateful for it. I really like the growing NA trend, and even though I drink, it's great to have an alternative, safer-feeling, and more inclusive nightlife option. I came with a couple friends on a Sunday night, about a week ago. We all drink alcohol, but we've all been drinking less lately. The place was almost empty around 8pm, which we found concerning for its prospective longevity. We also thought the prices were pretty steep -- maybe I'm biased as someone who drinks alcohol, but if I'm getting a mocktail or other NA drink, I'd like to pay less than $15+ for it. Still, I ordered the Ave Maria and thought it was one of the best mocktails I've ever had. One of my friends got the Malibu (he liked it but did complain about the price), and I don't remember what my other friend got. We sat for a while and played Connect4 using the fanciest set I'd ever seen. Some more people came in, so it didn't feel nearly as empty by the time I left. I'd probably come back, but only if I was with someone who doesn't drink and/or really wanted to try this bar. I hope they make it!
