Every time I go there and need help, Anthony is always willing to assist me with a smile and a great attitude. He is respectful, kind, and ready to help. In a supermarket where customers often have to find things by themselves, getting helpful and friendly assistance makes a big difference. What I appreciate the most is his consistency. I like DeCicco's and come here from time to time if I can't find what I want at Caraluzzi's in Danbury. The store has a great selection, is well staffed with helpful employees and is super clean. For basics, it's fine but their prepared foods have been hit and miss. I always like their bakery items but sometimes their hot food is not great, including some stuffed fish I had one time which was so inedible that it went into the garbage disposal after two bites. I also had some chicken that wasn't great so if you're looking at prepared foods, choose carefully. They score high points for fruits and vegetables and their selections of cheeses, olives and cured meats is top notch. If you want to make a charcuterie board, come here! They have a lot of great drink options too. If you like beer, the selection is extensive. I also like that they have lots of specialty Italian sodas and little cans of Coke and other mixers. They have a great aisle that has everything you need if you're hosting a specialty cocktail event, so whenever we are having a party, DeCicco's is our go-to place for supplies. Overall, they do a great job. There may be a thing or two that isn't great but nobody's perfect and they get so much right here and do it in such a great way, I have to recommend this place. read more

Lately I've noticed many employees' having difficulty speaking English, and service particularly at the bakery has been very slow. Today I was astonished when I purchased a $36 birthday cake for my wife, and the man said he was unable to write "Happy Birthday." The assistant manager made matters worse by telling me the man wasn't "trained," and yet offered no solution, like maybe finding someone who could. or maybe discount the cake? Nope. DeCicco you've got to be kidding me. You have to be trained to write Happy Birthday???????? My kids did that when they were 5. DeCicco & Sons charges top dollar for everything and should be better than this. read more

What's there Not to like here?? Perhaps their prices? The quality of their food demands it??? The place is huge, each department is well displayed and plentiful, and ALL so clean. Let start by their Sushi. The chef behind the counter is happy to make anything you want and always thanks you for taking some home. Produce, might be a bit pricey, I think the quality is exceptional. Everything we bought was fresh, tasty and sweet. Deli is amazing, looking so good, fresh, appetizing and plentiful, you want to buy everything! Bakery, I try not to look at it, so many choices, so well displayed. Fish department is also to die for. While their selection is very good theres just something that really bothers me about this store. The butchers trim steaks and beef , then they throw the fat in the garbage. I asked the manager if he could save me some as I wanted to make bird food with it. He said he would leave it for me . When I went to pick it up it had a price tag on it of eight dollars and change. I said but you were going to throw this out, they said yes but we cant give it to you. Wow really scumbag move considering I shop there at least twice a week. So I paid for the fat then went to Kobackers , I asked their butcher for some fat that they had trimmed . He gave me a bag three times the size and for free . I was looking for lunch for my son while we were on the road. We were out of town so he didn't want fast food exactly. I found DeCicco and sons on Yelp so we stopped there. It's a super nice market that's fancier than Whole Foods. I got a cup of coffee and son got the smoothie from the little cafe. He picked up some sushi that looked great and was good for supermarket sushi. They have a hot bar here, you can order sandwiches, salads, sushis, bakery. An update to my last review after bringing home an incredible haul of holiday goodies. The quality of the roast beef from the deli department was worth the price. And the price was high. The man who was stocking the dairy/butter section needed a mention because he went back and retrieved another container of Kerry Gold when he saw that I was disappointed that there were none left. (shout out to him). I'm removing the video of the beer expert upon his request. I had his permission to post it but he's become camera shy so I will be obliging here. The hot food bar "appears" good, but ribs are often dry and lack flavor. The soups are not worth the $10 price tag. Most items are more costly than other local places. I bought a bottle of Pinot Grigio, and it was overly sweet. I discarded it after a couple of sips. To their credit, I always find the cashiers to be friendly. BEWARE FOOD POISONING! The food sits out all day, Ive seen multiple flies on the seafood. One time I came here and I saw a huge dirty bucket filled with tomato sauce sitting in a wheelbarrow in the middle of the store. Also the employees should be required to wear belts, sagging and butt cracks from working at a "quality" grocery store is not expected. DeCicco & Sons is a small chain of gourmet grocery stores that opened in The Bronx, New York in 1973. It was founded by Italian immigrant brothers John, Joseph and Frank DeCicco, who came to America in 1958. The brothers had a deep knowledge and love of food and were immediately able to find employment at various New York City produce stands and butcher shops. Eventually they decided to go into business together and open their own grocery store in the Bronx called "DeCicco Food Market". Eventually John and Joseph went into business with their sons John Jr., Joseph Jr., and Chris, and in 2011 they founded the small chain "DeCicco & Sons" which has ten locations throughout Westchester and Putnam Counties. The DeCicco Family is dedicated to giving consumers quality food products. Each location features fresh local produce, meat, and seafood. Fresh mozzarella is hand-pulled every day and there are also several imported artisanal cheeses from Europe. Baked goods and hot foods are also prepared fresh on the premises. In addition to their food, DeCicco's is also well-known for their extensive craft beer selection. Some breweries even brew special releases exclusively for sale at DeCicco's. Each location also comes equipped with a craft beer bar, and one even has a full bocce court. Frank DeCicco is also still in the grocery business with his family. His chain is referred to as "DeCicco Family Markets" and features five locations. I've been to the location in Brewster a number of times over the years and never leave disappointed. My most recent trip was a few days ago. My visit came just before Easter weekend, so I grabbed some imported artisanal Italian chocolate Easter eggs as well as a Limoncello Cream-Filled Italian Easter Cake. From the cheese department, I grabbed some fresh mozzarella, smoked scamorza, imported provolone, imported Pecorino Romano, and some fancy crackers. I also scored some Italian chicken sausages from the meat department. I saved the best for last: Beer!! I picked out seven nice looking beers, but the one I'm most looking forward to opening is a Barrel-Aged Stout made exclusively for DeCicco's by Finback Brewery. Before leaving, I stopped at the craft beer bar and had pours of Maine Beer Company's "Dinner" (Double IPA) and Firestone Walker Brewing's "Parabola" (Barrel-Aged Stout) 2016 Vintage. Italian supermarket at an overpriced amount. Come in come all! Huge selection of beers so that's a must! DeCicco is basically an Italian Whole Foods (which is a great thing). They have all sorts of Italian products imported straight from Italy and a huge selection of everything. Truthfully I can't complain I love everything about the supermarket just some stuff is ridiculously priced. You can find all kinds of panettone, pandoro, torroni (at a high price of course) but you can get them all without having to go to Italy. Delicious custom olive bar. Pizzas made on the spot (these were just ok for my taste, at least the full pies). Salumeria and formaggi. Bakery. It has it all! Even an area where you can purchase your own pizza and beer on tap and sit and eat it. The beer selection is outstanding. All types of beer and they always have some type of deal. I could not be happier with my bakery order. Vanessa in the Brewster bakery location was fabulous. She went above and beyond as did her manager to execute my vision for my Dad's 75th birthday. I'm a regular shopper in this location so it was great that I could get all of the sweets locally without going to the Bronx. Everyone loved it all and most were shocked yet so happy to hear it was from our Brewster Decicco's. I highly recommend them, they'll definitely do their best to execute a special request or suggest what they can. DeCicco is an Italian-ish grocery mini-chain, one of nine stores in upstate NY, this one well-located in a large shopping complex right next to Southeast Train station and an entrance to I-84. Everyone seems to note the excellent beer selection -- as well they should. It is unbelievably well curated. The folks who work in that department seem to know every microbrew produced within 4,000 square miles. They are totally happy to geek out with a fellow beer lover and suggest interesting brews to try depending on taste and mood. These folks deserve at least 20 Yelp stars. I am not all that fond of the grocery store's prepared foods, however, unlike some other reviewers, it seems. Bakery selections are ok, but sometimes stale or just not made with excellent ingredients as they would be at a proper bakery like Brewster Pastry (and even for a few less Lira in some cases). Salads, rotisserie chicken and other prepared items are mostly pleasant, about on par with a Whole Foods salad bar. The supermarket sushi is predictably bad (gummy, hard rice, just-edible-enough-grade fish), the wakame seaweed salads are, less expectedly, also bad, made with an excessive amount of sweetener... some sticky corn syrupy substance from what I can tell. I like, but do not love, the meat and seafood departments, where in our experience, offerings have been of decent quality. At those prices, though, one would expect more than decent quality; in NYC, the same prices would fetch the premium product in the West Village or UWS. (For reference: Think Ottomanelli or Citarella pricing, Whole Foods quality.) I should note that DeCicco's seafood department is one of the few I've found in the area that (sometimes) sells oysters -- though only one variety on my recent visit. Big Y in New Milford had four (Mystics, Bluepoints, Wellfleets and something else) around the same time. Overall: DeCicco's is a fun place to browse, a fun place to pick up some awesome (and of course spendy) microbrews, olives, and maybe a slightly harder to find cheese. It's not a place where I plan to regularly purchase all of my groceries. read more

This review is *just* for the chopped salad station, which I continue to return to like a glutton for punishment. DeCicco's offers these extremely large, incredibly fresh, delicious chopped salads for $7.99. I would eat them every single day if it were feasible. What's the problem, you ask? The problem is that (80% of the time) the staff assigned to the chopped salad station has not been properly trained or does not speak English. It's very difficult to communicate your order. The employee will look at the sign to see what the ingredients in your chosen salad should be and they seem super bewildered (Hey DeCicco's, maybe post that in Spanish to help out your staff!). Then there's this awkward period where you're pointing at things and over emphasizing, "Tomatoes. Yes, tomatoes." On the back wall, there are pics of what is supposed to be on the salad, but that's not really helpful to the employee who is 5 ft away, trying to communicate with a line of customers through hand gestures, and facing in the opposite direction. DeCicco's, move the pictures and/or train people more thoroughly. The whole experience takes way more time than it should and everyone (staff and customers) seem frustrated by the experience. Additionally, my salad is always missing ingredients or just off. I had the Cobb salad today. The avocado was missing (even though the employee who translated for the employee preparing my salad asked me 2x if I wanted avocado and I said yes), there was a ton of bacon, and it was swimming in salad dressing. Anyone familiar with Wegmans, Stew Leonards or Whole Foods will be happy to find DeCicco & Sons just a quick jump off of Interstate 84 just past the junction with I-684 in Putnam County, NY. My wife and I actually lucked into finding this spot when we stopped to eat at the more well known Eveready Diner that is located in the same plaza. If you've been to any of the stores I mentioned above you will be comfortable and happy here. DeCicco is basically an Italian influenced mashup of those three. They have just about anything you can think of: hot food bar, salad bar, full bakery, on-site made pizzas and strombolis, deli station for sandwiches, hot seafood bar, homemade soups, prepared foods in the deli case ready to heat and eat and so much more. That so much more includes a full bar in the front part of the store. It's kind of hidden amongst all the clutter of a grocery store but it's there and they are serving up some good local brews and wines. Which in the Hudson Valley of New York means good quality. The bar area has plenty of seating to order up a libation and spread out the food you just bought for a pretty satisfying quick, casual dinner. Exit 19 off I-84 in New York State. Excellent mid sized grocery store with plenty of specialty brands in addition to regular fair as well. The only potential drawback is that it's a little pricey. Overall, however, it's not bad at all. The whole bar area is a pretty awesome idea - I'm always here with my daughter (plus I'm currently 16 weeks Prego) so there is no bar sampling for me! My only gripe today was the $3.99 Broccolini that I bought was okay but I got the most decent looking one out of the bunches that were there. Most of them were limp and in their way to being too old to cook... At that price I expected a nice firm bunch! Just saying.... Amazing store was in view as I drove up the hill to park. Everyone was so nice and friendly especially the girl at the bakery. I was extra thrilled with this particular store as it was big, clean and well organized. I have a great Deccicos in my area...just tiny compared to the Brewster location. I catered from this store for my daughter's birthday because they have quality food but the experience was terrible. First we were told that someone came in and gave my name and picked up my order (which I paid for ahead of time) at 11am. It was not me or any member of my household. My order specifically said to have it ready for pick up between 1:30 and 2pm. So They remade my order and had to deliver it to my house after my party had already begun. Then I ordered a full tray of pasta as advertised to feed 14-18 people. And paid $95. The tray I received was the shallow catering tray and the amount of pasta could barely feed my family of 6. It ran out immediately. If I had to estimate it was barely 2 lbs of pasta which would never feel 14-18 people. I emailed catering the next day and received a ridiculous response back about the weight of the food. Stick to your local Italian restaurant. I wish I did. read more
