If I was just rating this place based on food, I would give more stars. However, when a restaurant charges $20-25 per entree, 18% gratuity I start to question things. I will start from the beginning. The only option for water was bottled or sparkling. The only bottled water option was VOSS for $8. Okay, fancy restaurant I understand. However the VOSS bottle did not come sealed. And they took the bottle away as soon as we finished drinking the water mid meal. Is there really VOSS water in there? Or are they using the glass bottles and filling tap water. If a customer pays $8 for bottled water, you better let the customer keep that bottle atleast till the end of the meal. Next point, the waitress gave zero eye contact, attentiveness and was not welcoming. While we were ordering she was looking elsewhere. Then she gave attitude when we asked if she got the order. Ofcourse the order was not correct and something else was brought instead of the boondi raita. Entrees/curries were YUM but came with no rice. What Indian curry entree at a restaurant doesn't come with plain white rice? Let alone an entree that was $21. Naan and roti and paratha were tasty but very small pieces. Not a normal size portion. A place where groups can choose to celebrate and have a dinner party. Their alcohol menu is very detailed and every type has good amount of options. The majority of what we ordered from their food menu were on the tasty side. They have some authentic Hyderabad and in general, dishes from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana (south indian states). We tried their shami kabab and chicken 65 as appetizers, Hyderabadi vegetarian dum biriyani with mixed vegetarian gravy and goat haleem. We also ordered some naan on the side. All ordered dishes except biriyani hit the right taste buds as per the expectation. The biriyani is definitely not bad but at the same time not the best one you would find in the vicinity. Quantity is reasonable. Good amount of car parking spaces are available in front of the restaurant as it is a business complex with multiple other food attractions. Service is definitely one of their plus points however not extraordinary. Ambiance is average. Recorder music was not consistently being played when we visited. We heard the noise of all tables speaking most of the time. Most important reason for me to give 4 star review here is the pricing. They are pretty pricy/expensive overall throughout their menu. Even if visiting on a weekday beyond Wednesday, it is better if you can reserve a table before you reach the restaurant. We booked 1 hour before our visit and it was available on a Thursday evening however once we reached, we observed that it was almost fully occupied. Take out orders are also an option here. Update from a few weeks ago... As I suspected, the staff had an off day last time. Our second experience was fantastic. We arrived at about the same time of day and the staff was alert and ready to go. All our selections were very well prepared, presented beautifully and delicious. The staff got our drinks quickly. 1. The Samosas were again very good. 2. The Roti was flavorful and our server's suggestion to dip into the Angarey Paneer was great! 3. The Hyderabadi Royale Lamb Chop was presented with a table side flaming flourish and, more importantly, was perfectly prepared medium rare and oh so flavorful. 4. We added basmati rice to have with the lamb, delicious. We didn't have dessert as we were so stuffed from our meal. We did have some masala chai which ended the meal very well. The staff and owner took the time to check in with us and we had an extremely pleasant experience. We eagerly anticipate our next visit here. read more

Who puts fried chicken 69 in biryani and name it Hyderabad Chicken biryani. This is now my new favorite spot to have Indian food. I always like to read a few reviews before I start writing one. Many are complaining about the prices here. The decor is one of the most stunning Indian restaurants I have ever been to. It's a bit upscale and the prices are going to reflect that. And I don't mind it because everything we had here was cooked to perfection. The menu is extensive. While deciding on which dishes to order, the waiter made lots of wonderful suggestions. We ordered 3 apps, two entrees, and my son had the Mutton Paaya soup. I have to say that the Chicken Lollipops were my absolute fave. They were huge, the spices were delicious and the chicken was juicy. Hold them by the bone and just go at it. The garlic naan, oh my...I could live on these alone. Nom nom naan naan!! And the Crab Rubiyan app had tons of crabmeat. We absolutely enjoyed the entire meal. Our waiter had one heck of a sense of humor & was super attentive. While changing up our dirty plates, he gave my son a much bigger one and said, you look like you could use a much larger plate. Yes, my kiddo can sure eat. Lol. Families - before spending your money on this establishment, take 2 mins to keep reading... - reserved a party of 9 for my dads 76th birthday. Reservation was for 5:30 p.m. - we were not seated until 6:00 p.m. even though we were the ONLY ones at the restaurant. The owner/manager was taking videos of the empty table for his social media posts so WE had to wait. Ridiculous. hopefully they tagged #terribleassservice - I had my 7month old baby and they told us upon entering that they do not allow strollers. - the reason per management for no strollers is because they have these corny little robots that serve the food and a predetermined path is set and the stroller could get in the way. It actually made sense... - so I got over it. We were sat (30 mins late) in the corner of the restaurant (by the kitchen) and there was a small gap where our stroller could actually fit (without getting in the way of the robots that take away employment opportunities) - waitress in red (who was the ONLY one who operated with some sense of compassion and customer service) stated we could fit our stroller there. -she then came back and said management actually denied the request. My wife requested to speak to them. - the manager said that if he allowed us to have the stroller, there would essentially be a SEA OF STROLLERS in the restaurant and that's not the vibe they are going for. This policy is no where on their website or social media. It no longer was about iRobot and their programmed routes, it was about their "upscale vibe" that was their priority in an empty restaurant. We took our business to Bombay Blue (5 mins away) and they were accommodating, respectful, served delicious food, all while being PACKED. Terrible place. Misled by the positive reviews (see below) we went here and had the thali for four people. The taste was ok, but after going home everyone's stomach got upset. Any other half priced alternative in the vicinity would have better portion and taste and quality. 3. Naan and garlic naan, cashew curry and appetizers: comparable with number 1&2. Stomach trouble and bathroom runs: Free. Final verdict: Avoid if you don't want drinks with food. It's a overpriced lounge first and then a restaurant. BEWARE!!! If I could give this place zero stars I would. We were there on 3/28 with a party of 15 (4 kids). To start off, as we walked in with the cake, the manager (i am assuming, white guy) told me we charge a $5/slice. So to me that means - it would depend on the # of slices. Again, I have been to enough high end restaurants where they charge a flat fee for cakes and maybe even corking but to charge by the slice seems like a stretch. Heck, we could have cut our own damn cake. When we told the manager we can cut our own cake, he said sure then later when he/they brought out the cake, they were so unprofessional about it. He didn't even let us touch the cake. Just held it over for the birthday person and said - "ok make a wish" and walked back with the cake. So within a span of 5 minutes he changed his story completely. And they did charge us $75 for the cake slicing when indeed we only got 6 slices. To me this is plain ole stealing. The extent they stoop to - to make a few extra bucks. Also, what restaurant in NJ doesn't serve tap water. The told us they only serve still water which was probably $5 a bottle. We even joked and said we can bring our own water to which they said nothing. So expect to pay $50 for just water if going in a big crowd. The food I thought was OK, certainly not comparable to the price tag. The chicken dishes were primarily 70% gravy so much so that we had to order dry chicken to add to it. The robot bringing out the food wasn't impressive to us but maybe they are minimizing the serve staff effort. Back to the service, our table was messed up and they didn't do anything to fix it. They simply added a piece of cardboard under it which didn't help at all. So the whole time we had to make sure our feet were on the base of the table. Then again due to the wobbly tables we had one of the kids tip it accidentally and spill the water and no one came to clean it up. Unless you asked for wait staff we had no one checking up on us. So if you want to go there for the décor, sure. This restaurant is by no means a Michelin star or even close but pretends to be it with the worse service. They are only in the business of extracting money. Lastly, my rant should justify the $$ amount we dropped and it was $1042. You'd think charging this kind of money would provide them the ability to print more than one bill but they couldn't even do that. When we asked for another copy the server said she couldn't print it. I attaching a pic of the cake being help over someone else and just forced upon us. The vegetarian food is decent (not the best on Oak Tree road) but it's probably one of the better places for Ambience and not too loud spots. The food and drink selection is also good. When it comes to the actual food, most of the food is better than average. Our only bad experience was with the papad. It somehow felt stale and we had to send it back. It's also good to see them testing robots for food delivery and plate clean up after. I am not sure if they are efficient yet as a waiter was following it throughout the time. Deccan Spice will knock them all out of the park. The decor is just right for a date night with your significant other, definitely worthy of the spiffy outfit. They have a full bar with both American standards and Indian cocktails. Dessert is fine but unremarkable. We have taken to simply heading over to one of the many Indian sweet shops in the area for our after-dinner gulab jamun or kir with chai. If nothing else, go to gawk at the two serving robots that augment their service staff. These fun gadgets bring food to the table and bus empties. All servers take orders on hand held devices, another way management is using technology to streamline his operation. Sadly, service is the only area not top-notch at Deccan Spice. Their servers seem overworked and a bit undertrained. Indeed management spoke of labor challenges - quite common going into 2022 and out of the COVID pandemic.We've experienced a fair amount of delay and confusion on orders and overall service. I would love to see about 25% more service staff on the floor, and about 50% additional patron contact within a meal. Prices are moderately high, but no more than you'd expect to pay for a fine dining meal in, say New Brunswick or Cranberry. This place has become our "Indian date night' standard. We literally have never been disappointed with the food, and have been able to overlook the occasional lapses in service. It's a rare treat to find a restaurant that can execute so well on so many different dimensions. Friend I was with ordered the ginger ale and it had no carbonation in it. Told the waiter it was stale and he said yes, the machines have been down and doing that for awhile. While he did take this off the bill....how can the restaurant knowingly serve flat soda?!?!?! Last thing regarding my incredible dining experience here was that they do not have tap water. Been to this place twice so far and it offers a great fine dining experience. The food and cocktails are pretty good. We enjoyed their chicken biryani, chicken 65, chicken 555 and angara paneer sizzler. However, they don't offer water for free (no tap water btw) and make you pay $8 for a VOSS water bottle, which is quite ridiculous. Also, their portion size is quite small in comparison to the price. I feel this place offers good food and dining experience but is at a disadvantage location wise as you'd hesitate paying for food that you can get for much lesser price in the neighborhood. read more
