So happy to see another great restaurant opening in our valley. And as far as I know, this place is the only place with a Michelin Star chef (so I'm told) in the kitchen! We came on opening night as I love to see the excitement and enthusiasm on the first night of service. There can be a few "hiccups" during a startup, but to me it tells a greater story about the management and their preparedness. For that I award them 5 stars. I was also impressed with the food quality and learning about the local sourcing they strive for. I loved their mussels/pork belly with a touch of sweet chili and lime. Wifey had their pork chop with apple butter and said it was delicious! When I looked at her plate and saw it clean, I knew she was content with her choice. My husband and I came here for a fancy date night, we wanted to give it a try as it is on the end of our street and friends of ours gave us a gift certificate. Let me say we were not disappointed! We ordered a bottle of local wine we're familiar with so no surprises there. I got the shaved Brussels sprouts salad which was excellent, as was the pork belly appetizer. My husband order the steak (the best we've ever had, it was PERFECTLY cooked) and I ordered the pork roulade...also, just perfect. I have an allergy to parsnips so they were more than willing to substitute whipped potatoes for me, no charge. Yes, the food was the best in the Rogue Valley. Yes, it is expensive, but it is worth it and it is a fine dining experience. The service was superb. The owner, a woman our age who also has 2 young children, was an absolute delight. When she learned we were on a date night for the first time in a long time, she empathized and gave us a free dessert (burnt cheesecake, oh my gosh, delicious) and some aperitifs. She was so friendly and generous! If you're raising young children and on a tight budget, this is the place to go for those special occassion dinners. We definitely plan on coming back to celebrate our anniversary this fall. If you're older and can afford to eat here more often, then you definitely should and well, I'm jealous...and happy for you. I took my mom here for dinner while she was in town and I am so glad I did. We had one of the best meals we've had in a long time. My mom ordered the blood orange margarita and I had the cool cucumber cocktail. Both drinks were excellent. The cucumber cocktail was refreshing and unique. I had a sip of my mom's margarita and the cinnamon sugar rim added an extra layer of yum to an already delicious drink. We ordered the focaccia bread and shared the butter lettuce salad. The focaccia was excellent and the salad was full of fresh flavors from the beets, olives and tomatoes. The dressing was a spot on and just the right amount. For our entrees, we ordered the Teres Major and rack of lamb. Our meat was cooked to perfection as was everything else on our plates. It was really difficult to stop eating because we wanted to order dessert. The Confit Potato Pave was like nothing I've ever tasted and I could have easily eaten it as an entree. My mom loves lamb and said it was some of the best she's ever had. There was no gamey flavor. She was equally impressed with the polenta. We ordered a piece of chocolate praline cake to finish off our meal. Like everything else, the presentation was beautiful and the cake was melt-in-your-mouth delicious. Edward was our kind and very attentive server. The staff did an excellent job of checking in to make sure we had everything we needed and were happy with our food. The owner came to our table with her adorable baby strapped to her chest. She was very welcoming and is a wealth of information when it comes to wine. I highly recommend Decant. We had a cocktail and wine, both amazing. 3 appetizers. Truffle fries, Puget Sound mussels, and risotto. All three were precursors of what was to come: full flavor, fresh and the risotto was especially amazing. Layered and delicious. Main course was tritip and filet. Top notch. Desserts were similarly very nicely prepared. I will definitely return to this restaurant. Prices are high for the area, but if you enjoy the possibilities that fine cuisine can offer, this is your spot. OK I'll be honest, we were disappointed by our visit. We made our reservation three weeks out but apparently a large party had booked the patio and the booking site didn't catch it... So *a couple days* before our reservation, we were asked to move inside, or change our reservation. We'd already been looking forward to it and the sitter was set, so we agreed to move inside. Service was fine and friendly, but it definitely seemed like the experience varied depending on the table. Our appetizer salad was incredible, the sunchokes were unimpressive, the wine was great, and our entrées were so so. Mine seemed like it was plated several minutes before my husband's was ready so it was only warm when it came out. And it would've been appreciated if they had acknowledged having to move us, but that never came. I have to give them credit for what they are doing. It takes a tremendous amount of heart and guts to open a restaurant in today's environment, and based on the reviews they are clearly gaining a following, but I almost wonder if there is an "emperor's new clothes" mentality in the reviews. I'm glad we tried it, but there are a few other places in the valley we want to try or return to before we'll be back. We wish them luck. read more

Jessica warmly greeted us as we walked in the door. Her knowledge and recommendations for their wine and menu options were great. My friend eats vegetarian and she was happy to make a few recommendations and accommodating changes. My friend had the mushroom risotto and I had the crispy duck leg with collard greens. So tasty!!! Coming from Napa myself, I can see they really took the time to make this place special and a welcome option to Medford. I am glad they shared their Napa Valley exposure with Oregon. The food and service here are far above anything I've experienced in Southern Oregon in recent years! I should have taken pictures, but we were so engaged with the owner/staff that it didn't happen. The restaurant offers fine dining in a casual and welcoming atmosphere. There is also an outdoor enclosed patio that is well heated and lighting that creates an intimate dining experience. We had three appetizers (cauliflower soup, seared tuna, and the foie gras duet) all were superb, full of flavor, and perfectly portioned! For the entree, all three of us had to have the duck - the waiter's description of it sealed the deal! It was honestly some of the best I've ever had, extra crispy skin with the most tender and juicy meat - it reminded me of Chateaulin from years ago, only better. I recently moved back to Southern Oregon after 25 years in NYC/Brooklyn and have been missing the high-quality food and service I grew to expect from finer dining establishments, but Decant checks ALL the boxes - organic, sustainable, great food with a fantastic wine list and a sommelier who truly knows wine. So exciting to see a place like this in Medford. All I can say is if you have not been here, make a reservation and go!! We sat outside and - while it was during a torrential downpour we were completely dry and so warm. Even my mom took off her coat and we enjoyed the food, drink, and ambiance. I want to love Decant, and I definitely think I can get there, but my first impression was 2.5 stars, rounded to 3 because of the effort made to remedy our experience. My husband and I were hoping for a quiet, relaxing weekday date night (reservation for 7:15 on a Thursday). The tables are quite close together, I was less than 1 foot from the next party. It was also quite loud. I understand that this is good for business but based on the marketing and menu I expected the ambiance to feel a little bit more intimate and less like everyone was on top of each other. It often felt very cramped, particularly when the wait staff came to either table. Service was ok through the meal. Seated quickly, but a long wait for drink order, not offered any of the nights Specials, long wait time for food. They don't have their timing quite right on when to check on tables as the server came back to check on us before we had taken our first sips of beverage and our first bites of food. There was often someone at our table filling our water which I appreciated, but it also added to the extreme cramped feeling where we were seated. My husband ordered gnocchi, which he enjoyed but it seemed it may have been sitting a little while as the sauce had developed a film by the time it got to us. We also ordered focaccia which I found to be overly salty. I ordered steak frites. The steak was cooked WONDERFULLY, but again I found this food to be overly salted, particularly the greens on the plate, which were inedible. Steak was medium rare perfection and so tender and moist. I am thankful for the remedies the staff were willing to make. We were offered complimentary dessert wine for our wait time. Also, the owners sister took time to come ask for honest feedback and offered to take care of some of the bill. She said they were not expecting to be quite as busy as they were. I think this speaks volumes to what kind of restaurant this is going to be. I'll give them another try, maybe a few months down the road when they're less new and on a less busy night. read more

Place gives you an "at home" atmosphere with servers who are very knowledgeable about their menu selections to their romantic patio setting. But the true hero of this place besides the people are their food. A little pricey for an ordinary dinning in but definitely a place to go to when you want to celebrate or go on a romantic dinner especially if you want to impress your date. There were two waiters consistently/appropriately checking in (to be honest they were a bit hard to tell apart, but everything was seamless). The one, I believe was more bartender, shared his expertise with drinks and suggested cocktails and wines, which were perfect. My friend enjoyed two new cocktails at the waiter/bartenders recommendation. The food was out of this world. We had the seared tuna appetizer, perfection. The focaccia was a nice treat. For entrees, I had the beef tenderloin which was tender and cooked to perfection, with marrow which was delicious. My friend got the steak frites, the meat was so delicious & the truffle fries were perfect. Dessert was chocolate hazelnut cake & a fruit tart. Both delectable. Fine upscale dining yet still smart casual atmosphere.
