When I asked about if they are accepting new patients, she went on to ask me several questions including: how did you hear about us, and if I had dental insurance. When I finished answering her questions (found them because I live in the neighborhood) she said "we are only accepting new patients who have family at our clinic". I thought it was really strange that she asked me those questions and then disclosed that I needed to be a family of current established patient. It felt more like she was biased against my insurance (which is good insurance) or was looking for a cash pay. She could have just told me their policy right off the bat instead of dismissing me after collecting the information. Unprofessional and rude!

After I moved away, I ran into a serious issue with older dental work, and Dr. Emard took the time to revisit my history and re-examine the situation. Her thoughtful, evidence-based guidance helped me avoid future complications and significant expense. What impressed me most was her unwavering integrity--always putting what's clinically best for the patient first, even when it meant choosing the more conservative route. If you're looking for a Seattle dental practice that combines genuine warmth, clinical expertise, and true patient advocacy--long after you've left the office--you won't find better than Dr. Emard and Wendy.

Dr. Shaw recognizes my anxiety and does everything to help put me at ease. He explains everything he is about to do before doing it (because my anxiousness is also fueled by the need to know what is happening at each step). He has a very gentle and calm energy about him as well, which helps further to put me at ease. Not once has Dr. Shaw put me in pain or discomfort. Incredibly accommodating and professional...but also a great "bedside" manner. The hygienists including Victoria, Solmaz and Nicole are all so friendly and welcoming, and they really take good care of their patients. The office manager, Ana, is so accommodating and flexible ...something that I have greatly appreciated. The bottom line for me is that this office clearly cares about their patients which is so important for someone who has dental anxiety...and although it seems like a simple ask, humanity has been removed from many businesses and services it seems. Thank you to everyone at this office for taking care of my teeth as well as my anxiousness!

But after being referred to Dr. Koogler, I can honestly say this was the best dental experience I've ever had. I originally went in for a broken tooth and a cleaning. The office was clean, bright, and filled with beautiful natural light, which immediately made it feel calmer and more welcoming. The entire staff was incredibly friendly and always smiling. The hygienist -- whose name I unfortunately can't remember -- was amazing. She was efficient, gentle, and so personable. One thing that really stood out was the technology they use. Normally dental X-rays are uncomfortable for me because the inserts hurt my mouth, but they had newer equipment that made the process quick, easy, and completely painless. They also used a silicone/rubber mouthpiece device during the procedure that helped suction water while allowing me to comfortably rest my teeth instead of forcing my mouth open the entire time. It sounds like a small thing, but it made a huge difference in comfort. Dr. Koogler himself was outstanding. He was kind, knowledgeable, and somehow managed to give me the dreaded numbing shot without me feeling a thing -- a first for me. What started as a broken tooth repair ended up being a crown, and I felt absolutely no pain during the procedure. Even after the Novocain wore off, I had little to no soreness, which honestly surprised me. I live on the east side of Western Washington and will gladly make the trip to the west side to continue seeing Dr. Koogler. When you find a dentist this good, the commute is absolutely worth it.

Day of appt - prior to start of procedure - I was given the total to pay upfront, which was the total for a provider NOT in the Delta Dental Insurance program. I paid in full (no choice) and was over charged by several hundred $ as my invoice contained a sedative I did not receive. During my 2 follow up visits (in Feb) - there still was never a check waiting for me at reception. I had many visits and so I had interactions with just about everyone in the office and they are all so nice and comforting. So the long of it... During my first consultation with Dr. Spoor I was unsure of what he could even do for me. My teeth were fine, sure I had a few spots on my front two but they had always been there. I had had the Zoom whitening done before so the spots were less noticeable. I was kind of thinking lets do some Invisalign (my teeth were pretty much straight) and redo the whitening and I will be happy. Dr. Spoor and I talked, he took some molds of my teeth and set up an appointment to talk about our options a week or so later. At the next appointment I was blown away. He had obviously put some thought into what my teeth could be. He had a few options we talked through, from not very much work to a lot more work. We decided on somewhere in the middle. I wish I could attach pictures of the before and after but I honestly get compliments on my smile all the time and no one ever thinks I have 8 veneers... Dr. Spoor is just that good! My new teeth fit my mouth and life perfectly. Plus I had little to no pain throughout the entire process. I know others that had gotten veneers and had lots of trouble but not if Dr. Spoor is the man doing the work! While most people hate going to the dentist I was actually sad when my process was over (consultation to final appointment about 6 months) because everyone there is great and I actually had fun even when I was in the dentist chair for hours!! I still go back for my cleanings and recommend the office to anyone that even mentions the dentist!

He didn't introduce himself when he came into the room and started looking in my mouth-- very strange and it felt awkward. He then let me know that I had 5 cavities that needed to be filled. He diagnosed these via my x-rays and didn't use tools to check each tooth before confirming the need for fillings. Something just felt off with the whole experience, so I went to another dentist who let me know I did not have any cavities.. from reading the owners response to reviews by other folks, they seem to have a more aggressive preventive care strategy/approach. Which is fine I suppose but just not for me.

I am a physician myself and have high standards. When I leave Seattle, I know I won't be able to find a clone. 2) His technical expertise is outstanding. He is a perfectionist, which is a highly desirable quality in any medical professional I see! 3) He will not break the bank. His charges are reasonable and he will attempt to do his work in a cost-effective (but excellent) manner. 4) He is obsessive. My first visit was an hour an a half, and most of the time was spent with him inspecting my teeth in detail (see #2) 5) Staff are all incredibly personable, helpful, and competent. Most of them have worked with him for many years, which is also telling. 6) His hygienist, Deb, is equally thorough, compulsive, and personable. You will never have a dental cleaning that is as deep and extensive, which is wonderful because it optimally prevents gum and tooth disease. I'm confident there's more I could say, but for God's sake, if the above has not persuaded you to see him then I don't know what possibly would. :)
