Short order cook in the house. Debbie's salad with a little too much dressing on it for the spouse. Vegetable Beef soup not from a can. Fried Bologna sandwich on dry toast, so tasty. Assortment of plants in the front window. Menu items written on multiple whiteboards on the walls. Waitress hustling back and forth. Floor worn from the many years of chairs scraping. When I was in college I had a broad set of friends from all parts of the country, then later in the Army that continued. Going to Debbie's in Dayton (in town for Mother-In-Laws memorial service at Wright State) was very much like going with your white friend to his grandma's house. The general area is a bit worse for wear, you ride by some things that need some serious TLC. You get to her place and it's a little island of clean, quaint, complete with eclectic decoration, domesticity. The food is simple, clean, freshly made. There is no cooking show spice cart in play here, there is a little bit of salt and the tiniest hint of pepper (as if it is the precious spice of Dune fame). That fits this location perfectly, it is what you should expect and what you get. If we are in the area again we will come back. We got in early, while we were eating the rest of the town came over. That sweet, hero server (don't know if that was The Debbie) just weathered the storm like a pro. "Weeds...what weeds"! Added: Kudos on the one page menu Debbies. The food here may be bleh but the service is stellar. The chopped sirloin w mushroom gravy was a large-sized chopped sirloin, thick, smothered w dark brown gravy that tasted like it came from a mix and sat around for a while. It was thick and held its shape where they put it. The mushrooms came from a can. The mashed potatoes were definitely instant and they were thick and gummy. The green beans - canned - had bits of onion and bacon, and while I appreciate the effort, the beans were flavorless. All that said, the prices can't be beat (my meal was about $9) and the service is the best. read more

So glad I found this place searching for non chain places near by not only do we like to support small businesses the food is usually far better. We set out this late morning for a good diner style breakfast and it did not disappoint. There's something so comforting about walking in the door and feeling like it's filled with regulars! After our first visit today we might be well on the way to becoming one ourselves because if the friendly atmosphere, options on the menu items ie crispy desiredness and those PRICES people you can't beat this place. Two full meals, one add on side of hash browns for just over 20$ Staff friendly and quick to great and provide menus. I ordered French toast and bacon (this is my go to) and when it came out freshly cooked my first thought was I hoped the appearance of egg around my toast didn't prove to give me the egged toast taste that you sometimes get. (I know, I know people French toast is made with eggs, but it's also heated with some type of cream which usually doesn't give the 'batter' around it an eggy appearance). It arrived lightly sprinkled with powdered sugar -this was another option given I buttered & syrup'd it all up and it was great; it was soft and crispy at the same time and my side of bacon was appropriately crispy not overly done to a burnt state and it was flavorful bacon not the super thin strips you get so many places that lack any flavor. Husband was happy with his meal as well, I know we'll be back as we were already making plans for what was next to try pending on what time we arrived. read more

Five star diner. We came here for some brunch and they didn't disappoint. Ordered a coffee which was hot and fresh and the corned beef and hash breakfast which came with the hash, two eggs and toast. I ordered mine scrambled and with English muffin. We tossed in a side of hashbrowns. Everything was really good and the prices are good diner prices, not some over priced dishes that make you think you are sitting at a Michelin star restaurant. The service was outstanding! It felt like a couple of old friends catching up. She was the absolute best and she was always checking in and making sure we didn't want anything else or making sure we had everything we need. The food was good old style diner food and they serve breakfast food all day, which is definitely my kind of place. I had the veggie omelette and French toast and it was wonderful! My boyfriend had biscuits & gravy, bacon, eggs & hashbrowns. It was a ton of food for only $30. The ambiance may be out of date but, it's homey and made me miss how things use to be. Our favorite "greasy spoon" restaurant (though it's not, at all, greasy). Simply stated, this is the way traditional diners SHOULD look and be -- straight out of the 50s, with comfort food, "down home" service, and patrons straight out of Mayberry. Prices are SO LOW, that's it's hard to imagine. Wide offerings from the menu, from biscuits & gravy to the exceptionally delicious patty melt (don't let them overcook it!). Found this place on a whim. The menu was basic. The service was friendly. The kid menu is very bland. My daughter ordered a cheeseburger and chips and that is all she got minus the cheese. Not very appealing. My son ordered a double decker cheese burger and got a single cheeseburger. He said the meat was good. My bride got a chef salad that seemed to hit the spot but it wasn't anything spectacular. I ordered the chicken salad which was about the same. I may give them another chance to see if we just hit a bad day. We did not try the pie which they are known for. read more

You will enjoy this great mom and pop breakfast/brunch stop. Don't come in expecting anything flashy, and for some that's just how they like it. You can't beat the prices on this menu for miles around, so that is hugely redeeming! With average American style breakfast, it hits the spot if that's what you're craving. Quite possibly the blandest diner food i've ever had. Had to wait over an hour for french toast and a side of hash browns. French toast came out drenched in egg. Hash browns had no color and were cold in the middle. They had to remake the hash browns and the second time around they were burnt and absent of flavor. Coffee was good but everything else was terrible. read more
