Finally, and probably the superstar was the pancake with a strawberry and cream topping that was so sweet and amazing that you didn't even need syrup Even though there are only a handful of tables inside, there is a patio out back that we'll be back for to try lunch someday. I started with an espresso martini before my Benedict Your Way with smoked salmon, and it was so good that I had to have another one after my meal! Smooth, delicious, and the perfect way to bookend a great breakfast. And then there was the Benedict. I substituted the English muffin for a biscuit, added smoked salmon, and asked for extra hollandaise. Life changing. The biscuit was such a delicious upgrade with the smoked salmon, eggs, and that rich, creamy hollandaise. I honestly didn't want the meal to end. But the real finale was the crème brûlée. Absolutely perfect. The caramelized sugar on top had that beautiful crisp crack when I broke into it, while the custard underneath was silky, creamy, and perfectly balanced. Not too sweet, just rich enough, and the contrast between the delicate caramelized topping and smooth custard was exactly what a great crème brûlée should be. Paired with my last espresso martini, it was an incredibly satisfying way to finish the meal. My only reason for giving 4 stars instead of 5 is that I'd love to see a few more vegetarian and pescatarian options on the menu. Otherwise, Ellie's is a lovely place with genuinely friendly people, great food and drinks, and that warm Yellow Springs charm. I'm happy to support them and will definitely be back!

The response we got was a bit dismissive and they told us "we have black coffee, we don't do any of that fancy stuff. Go down the street to Taylor's." I was going to order the regular coffee but it was off-putting so we did as they recommended and left. I know I don't *look* like a local- for obvious reasons. I don't want to believe this is why we received weird service compared to other patrons. Regardless, we have enjoyed the actual food and ice cream here. Our family likes it and visits weekly- I will just trust them that they get good consistent service every time.
