I just came and ordered the avocado toast, which is supposed to come with eggs, bacon, and potatoes. I substituted grits for the eggs and when I got my meal, I have no potatoes when I asked about it. They asked if I wanted some to go. I was really excited about trying a new place but I guess I won't be coming back really cool though they have all volunteer servers and staff, but honestly not everybody was friendly. I didn't feel comfortable at all. One guy made me feel somewhat comfortable. read more

This place is a keeper, great breakfast menu (the food is good), great service and seriously an unbeatable price. This is a community cafe that really does just that connects the community. With their community meals on Wednesday and their ability to keep costs down and help the homeless, you can pay it forward and buy a meal for someone and sponsor tables and community meals. It's such a cool place to come. All the wait staff are volunteers. The coffee is supplied by the coffee hub next door so it is way good coffee. Enjoy the massive blueberry pancakes with lemon crème or the massive yogurt parfait. All their dishes are big, low price and big portions and it's all so good. They have some great omelet options and biscuits and gravy. This is such a unique and great concept. If you love making an impact and thinking big picture One Bistro has all of that going for it. It's a massive win and hope to see more of these in the Dayton area one day. read more

When I first walked into One Bistro, I thought I was just going out for a meal. What I didn't expect was how much that meal would mean--not just to me, but for my community. The food was absolutely incredible--fresh, homemade, and better than anything I could've made at home. But what really stood out was the atmosphere. It wasn't just a restaurant; it was a place where people of all backgrounds came together as equals and I felt seen and heard, as did everyone else who walked in the door. When I learned about the Pay It Forward program, I immediately wanted to get involved. Knowing that my meal could help someone else enjoy the same experience filled me with such a sense of purpose. What an awesome concept! This restaurant offers meals for paying customers or those who can't afford to pay. It works on a pay it forward type concept. Volunteers run most of the restaurant with a few paid staff. We ordered from the Saturday brunch menu: French toast and eggs Benedict. Both were very good. The vibe is laid back and warm. read more

Xenia is the Greek word for Hospitality, and One Bistro couldn't represent that better. This place is a beacon of hope and model for all of society. Although it is a (questionable) pay-it-forward business model, it is still quite rude to ask for donations from your patrons, especially in front of other guests. I don't think it is a good idea to shame people into giving money to your cause. read more

First, let's not bury the lead: the food is terrific. We came here for Saturday lunch, and they had about eight brunch items. that all sounded great. She had the Pumpkin Spice pancakes, I had the Tuscan omelet with feta cheese. We split a side order of biscuits and gravy. Everything was truly exceptional. Even the toast with the omelet was thick cut and freshly baked. Now the rest of the story. This is the kind of food you'd find at some upscale bistro in Cincinnati or Columbus where each brunch dish would be priced at $10-15. And the smart, modern decor here makes it look the part. Yet the "suggested" price here was $6 each for the pancakes and omelet and $3 for the biscuits and gravy. And these are "suggested" prices because this restaurant caters to everyone in the community, rich and poor, with a "pay what you can afford" concept. The cooks and wait staff are volunteers. One Bistro bills itself as an example of Social Entrepreneurship and part of a Christian ministry (they have another restaurant in Miamisburg). But the Ministry is very understated and everyone's friendly and welcoming without making any hard sell. One Bistro embodies community and its mission would make you feel good about patronizing it even if the food was so-so. But did I say the food was terrific? The only drawback is limited hours. But it's so worth a visit. read more

Stopped here for breakfast while in town on errands and had read about the concept but had never found one we could get to. The whole idea (check out onebistro.org if you're not familiar with it) of using all volunteers (except for the chef), charging a single, very low price for all menu items and pay what you can in order to give a hand up to those who need it is refreshing. What makes it even better is the food was great and the volunteers bubbling with enthusiasm. Hubby and I both had omelets (he - bacon, sausage, ham, and smoked cheddar, while I enjoyed one with bacon, smoked cheddar, onion, and mushroom) which came with potato hash, toast, and a fat strawberry. All the filling ingredients in the omelets (except the cheese) were grilled nicely before being added the omelets and the potatoes were what home fries should but rarely are: well-browned potatoes with onions so tender and sweet they nearly melted in my mouth. All in all, it was a pleasure to enjoy a delicious breakfast and know we were helping others as well. (If you're ever in Huntingdon, PA, Top's Diner has a "pay it forward" and a "buy an officer a meal" program as well as good food.) read more

My fiancé and I were traveling past Xenia on our way to Akron and stopped for lunch. We did not realize the concept of the place until we sat down, but it was really immediately very heartwarming. It seems like it really is a community center in addition to serving good quality food. Neither of us is Christian, and we tend to be leery of anything too Jesus-y, but at this place it was easy to overlook that aspect. The food was really delicious. I got a BLT with brown sugar aioli and he got a chicken sandwich with mushrooms and cheese. We ended up "paying it forward," too. (How could we not?) I definitely drank the Koolaid they were serving and would go back any day for that BLT and feel-good vibe. read more

What a lovely concept! This restaurant is the real deal - the food is great, the environment is warm, and the service is kind and personable. My husband, daughter, and I had brunch here over the weekend. We hadn't been, but had heard of the concept. The staff explained to us more of their mission. (they are an all-volunteer staff, pay as you can, pay it forward if you can, etc.) They were also so sweet to our one year old daughter! Our food was excellent! My husband had the chicken, bacon ranch omelet. I had the breakfast quesadilla, which had eggs, feta, spinach, and fresh veggies. We also had a bowl of gravy with biscuits. Everything was fresh and delicious. (Our daughter had a little bit of everything!) The "suggested" price of most of the menu items is $6, and the portions are very large. If you are able, please do pay it forward and contribute a bit more. It will go towards the meal(s) of other customers. I can't wait to go back and try some of their lunch menu items! read more

The serves are volunteers and those in the community that can't afford a nice meal can volunteer a few hours and get a meal. After we ate here we decided to volunteer and it was fun. This place is wonderful! I was in town for a mediation across the street and only had about 20 minutes to eat. Wanting to avoid fast food, I asked if they could get me in and out in that time. They were so quick with my order. I had a pick 2 with a Cobb salad and the wrap. It was delicious!! Can not recommend this place more--the pay it forward program is great too!
