If you could rate the sewing skills of this seamstress for wedding gowns, I'd say it's expert level. About a decade ago, I came to this business (different location before) upon a friend's recommendation for wedding gown alterations...since the first in-mall tailor I went to was inexperienced & had attempted to hem my gown anyway, doing a poor job & costing me $150, recommending that I go elsewhere to tailor the bustier on it. Let me tell you, at the first appointment, the seamstress at this business immediately knew what was done wrong, and where the work on the dress should've been done to hem properly judging by the weight of the fabric & the intricate beading design. She also knew how to salvage the gown & adjust it accordingly, I trusted her enough to also alter another evening gown I had planned to wear on my wedding. Amazingly her work was so precise, that I only required that appointment & the subsequent fitting for the gowns to look exactly as desired and fitting like it was made for you. Fast forward till today & service is still the same, but now with a larger dressing space & seating room... they'll soon be moving to the west end soon! Price depends on the amount of work needed, but for what you end up with, it's worth it...so save or budget for it! I always recommend brides who ask me where to get their alterations to go to Debbie's & all have been pleased with the end results. They don't even need to advertise; their work speaks volumes & so do the referrals from their happy customers. read more

I came to Debbie's for my bridal alterations, after two friends also had theirs done here. The ladies at Debbie's are very sweet and professional. They only take appointments but it's very easy to book one. I managed to get my alterations done in plenty of time by the wedding with no rush, and it only took two appointments. The first appointment was for trying on the dress and getting the initial measurements for the alterations, the second appointment was for trying on the dress after the alterations and seeing if everything was good. Sometimes they will book a third appointment if further alterations need to be done. Looking back, it may not have hurt for me to book the third appointment, as the bust was a little off during my wedding day, but no big deal. Overall the alterations turned out well, my dress was handled professionally and the ladies there make you feel like a princess. In terms of costs, I think it's relatively comparable to similar places. In the end it cost me just over $400 for hem alterations (shortening the train), bust alterations and shortening the straps. The cost will depend on how much work you need done on your dress. I think my alterations were about average, not a lot but could have been less. I first went to Debbie's to look for a clip and veil to put in my hair. I was looking forever for this particular fascinator and when I look on their facebook page, they had it sitting in the display case. I was so happy as the place where I had found it previously closed up shop. When there, I booked my wedding gown alterations. Prior to going to Debbie's, I had tried on my dress (which I ordered online) and had cried as I hated it and it was too close to the wedding to go buy another dress. My mother said not to worry and that maybe the seamstress could do something. Well, they did something alright!!! They literally turned my tears of sadness into happiness. I still to this cannot talk about the amazing job they did without tearing up in gratitude. Added to the fact that they did such a wonderful job on the dress, they made me feel comfortable, relaxed and beautiful. I'm a plus-plus-sized woman so to make me feel that way was a feat! I had gone to other bridal places and honestly felt judged and like a beluga whale. The way that I was treated at Debbie's made those feelings evaporate. Now it's my turn to be a bridesmaid, I went into the shop for my dress alterations. Once again, they exceeded my expectations and made me feel amazing. The prices were more than reasonable. For my wedding dress, I got a veil, wedding corset, a bustle put into the dress and alterations at the bust, wait and hemline. The cost was just over $400.00. For the bridesmaid dress, I got the bust altered, the zip fixed, a back panel made and the waist tailored for $100.00 I cannot recommend Debbie's enough. They are wonderful. I was really nervous choosing where to go for alterations, because I'd heard so many horror stories, but I trusted my bridal shop and they recommended Debbie's. I really had a wonderful experience having my wedding dress altered at Debbie's, and after my first appointment, all of my anxiety was gone. I live out of town and they were very accommodating with appointment dates and making sure it was right on the 2nd fitting so that I didn't have to fly back in for a 3rd fitting. They also did a wonderful job re-beading the belt on my dress that had arrived from the bridal shop looking nothing like the sample dress I had tried on. Brought my wedding dress to Debbie's Fashion Design for Alterations. I had called about 5 months ahead of my wedding and they scheduled 2 appointments for me within a month or two before the wedding date. When I first came in, the staff was friendly and very helpful. They helped me put on my dress and the seamstress was great with explaining exactly what needed to be done. I paid upfront after seeing a thorough breakdown and came back 3 weeks later to my beautiful dress which fit perfectly. They had me try it on again and ensure I was completely happy. As they knew I was travelling for my wedding, they explained how to travel with my dress and take care of it upon arrival which was incredibly helpful. Wow. What can I say about my experience at Debbie's? From the moment I stepped into the business I felt uncomfortable. After getting undressed and into my bustier and dress I came out to have the alterations done. Immediately the lady (who would not give me her name) was commenting on my weight and continuously asked me how much weight I planned to lose for the 'big day'. I informed her that I didn't plan on losing any weight and that I was comfortable with my shape and size. She looked at me and just shrugged. From then on she was silent and did not say a word to me. At the end of my fitting she told me I was ready to go and see the receptionist at the front. When I spoke with the receptionist she informed me that my alterations would be $680.00. No small sum. I was floored. I was given a succinct explanation "It need to be let out, taken in and bustled." No break down of funds was given to me. Regardless, I bit the bullet, paid in full and walked out the door. I just went into the store again and was subjected to the same body/fat shaming by the tailor. She looked over my dress and told me there was nothing we could do to make it fit 'properly'. In her words "I am too curvy". She continued to repeat that line over and over. While my sister and I continued to look over the dress she left and began pulling dresses and doing other work. She did not explain a SINGLE alteration she made to the dress. Unless you count telling me that she had let out the dress as much as possible and she could not do it anymore. She continued to call me curvy and point out what she considered to be flaws on my body. At that point I asked her if anything else needed to be done and she said no. We concluded the appointment and I walked out of the business. I can confidently say that I will never recommend anyone to this place. I refuse to let this experience change the way I feel about myself. However, I believe that everyone should be aware of the possibly body and fat shaming that can take place at this business. read more

I had last minute alterations done on a bridesmaid dress here 2 months ago. Service was great, I was in and out of there in 20 minutes and despite the many alterations done on the dress, only required 1 fitting! A little pricy, but worth it. read more

I was referred to Debbies Fashion Design by Novelle Bridal. The staff here is very nice and accommodating, but the taste level is sometimes questionable. There were giant foam cups put into my dress that looked absurd. The staff assured me it was fine but my friends confirmed that they looked strange. It was removed and looked better. Then it was taken in a little too much at the waist. Even when I had it loosened it was still pulling a little tighter than I wanted but the staff convinced me that this is how it was supposed to be. I wish i had it taken out a little more but at that point I was exhausted. At the end of the day the dress still looked good, although was noticeably pulling at the waist. Im not sure how many others noticed or cared. Im a detail oriented person and it was noticeable for me. I feel tailors should be even more detail oriented than myself. I also didnt appreciate being made felt like my body was the problem and not the dress, especially since before I had it taken in it didnt pull at all and draped so nicely. read more
