If you could rate the sewing skills of this seamstress for wedding gowns, I'd say it's expert…read morelevel. About a decade ago, I came to this business (different location before) upon a friend's recommendation for wedding gown alterations...since the first in-mall tailor I went to was inexperienced & had attempted to hem my gown anyway, doing a poor job & costing me $150, recommending that I go elsewhere to tailor the bustier on it. Let me tell you, at the first appointment, the seamstress at this business immediately knew what was done wrong, and where the work on the dress should've been done to hem properly judging by the weight of the fabric & the intricate beading design. She also knew how to salvage the gown & adjust it accordingly, I trusted her enough to also alter another evening gown I had planned to wear on my wedding. Amazingly her work was so precise, that I only required that appointment & the subsequent fitting for the gowns to look exactly as desired and fitting like it was made for you. Fast forward till today & service is still the same, but now with a larger dressing space & seating room... they'll soon be moving to the west end soon! Price depends on the amount of work needed, but for what you end up with, it's worth it...so save or budget for it! I always recommend brides who ask me where to get their alterations to go to Debbie's & all have been pleased with the end results. They don't even need to advertise; their work speaks volumes & so do the referrals from their happy customers.

They only take appointments but it's very easy to book one. I managed to get my alterations done in plenty of time by the wedding with no rush, and it only took two appointments. The first appointment was for trying on the dress and getting the initial measurements for the alterations, the second appointment was for trying on the dress after the alterations and seeing if everything was good. Sometimes they will book a third appointment if further alterations need to be done. Looking back, it may not have hurt for me to book the third appointment, as the bust was a little off during my wedding day, but no big deal. Overall the alterations turned out well, my dress was handled professionally and the ladies there make you feel like a princess. In terms of costs, I think it's relatively comparable to similar places. In the end it cost me just over $400 for hem alterations (shortening the train), bust alterations and shortening the straps. The cost will depend on how much work you need done on your dress. I think my alterations were about average, not a lot but could have been less. They also have a great selection of bridal accessories incl. jewelry, hairpieces, veils, etc. Thank you, Debbie's!

Being the daughter of a tailor, it has been hard to find a GOOD tailor in this city, let alone one…read morethat has good customer service (that will "re-do" a piece that was not done to the expectation of the customer). I am happy happy to say that after, 10 years, I have finally found one that is VERY good and for what I have needed to have done (I lost a significant amount of weight that necessitated that I take a lot of clothes that would cost SO MUCH more if I replaced them) a good value as well. I went in the first time with two skirts to be taken in to "make sure" it would be the best place for me. This is something I have done with other places I have gone--take in ONE thing for an "easy" alteration to make sure between the quality of the alteration and the customer service as a whole. Compared to other places I have gone to, I feel that this spot is good for both. As well, they are very up front and honest as to how much an alteration will cost in light of the work that it will entail. In fact, you can ask them point blank "is it worth the money for what it costs to alter it"? They will tell you how much it would cost and then leave it up to you. In my case, I have a reasonable amount of work clothes, "going out clothes" that if I tried to "re buy them I couldn't afford them now, if at all find them anymore since some of them were purchased in the US and some are also designer. For example, I currently have 5 pairs of slacks that have to be taken in and in so doing, the inseam has to be also taken in and then lengthened. Some of the pants are lined some are not. The cost is going to be a bit over $200.00 . However, if I do the math on the pants separately, to re buy them, I am looking at roughly around $600.00 worth of slacks. I realize that such a consideration isn't for everyone. However, if you are looking for a good tailor who will listen to what you say and will allow you to ask questions, the tailor at Parklane Tailors is the gentleman for you to help you with your alterations :-) Another caveat, like most tailors, he only takes cash and Interac....so that is the other thing to know. My only regret is that he is at WEM so when I go, it is a "destination point".....however, like all tailors, his spot is in one of the "quieter" wings (across from the Dollarama the wing that has the side entrance to GalaxyLand--these are my landmarks to make sure I remember :-) where he is).

Located in Northgate Mall, Scrub City is perfectly situated to attract a variety of health care…read moreemployees as potential customers, given the entire second floor of the mall is health care related services. I was excited to go check out a new option and made a trip out to this elderly mall specifically to visit Scrub City. There is also another shop in Millwoods Town Centre. Sadly I found the scrubs were very expensive for what I would consider to be average to below average quality. I went comparison shopping right after just so y'all don't think I'm hating on a small family shop for no reason. The minimum cost for scrubs, just a bottom or a top, was $55. Featured items were $65 per piece. Most of these were NOT any recognizable name brand like White Cross or Dickies, they were obviously mass imports of generic items. In contrast, one can purchase Helly Hansen brand scrubs at Mark's for $60 per piece. Those scrubs are indestructible. In my recent experience, decent scrubs cost about $40 a piece, with many stores offering deals like buy so many pieces, get one free, or a certain percent off multiple sets. No such offers at Scrub City. Many of the items are a shiny polyester mix, kind of a silky material, which does not breathe well. Consider also, if you are doing physical labour like manually moving people, you don't necessarily want your clothes to be slippery. Many items were also poorly finished, with loose strings hanging, back pockets sewn way too high up the backside, quality issues big time. The selection looks big but really it's mostly lots of the same thing in different colours. Almost all the pants have cuffs, which sucks if you need things hemmed. There were next to no patterned tops, mostly just some Christmas-themed stragglers, and incredibly most of the sizes on the shelf were XS, XL and XXL. Maybe stock supply issues? I'll never know because the very young woman at the till kept her eyes on her phone while I was in the store. TLDR: too expensive for dubious quality, pass
