Not sure why my first review for this diner was removed from years ago, but I have literally been dreaming about the food we had here when we were passing through DeBary, for years now! The food is exceptional and the service was amazing. We loved the way the diner was decorated too because my husband is a USMC veteran and we felt very welcomed. My husband ordered the DeBary burger that came with one of the most delicious sauces he's ever had on it and I ordered the Cuban which was SUPERB in flavor. We also shared a Cobb salad and the Reese's peanut butter pie (because Reese's are my husbands fave!) Overall, the visit was a 10/10 and I can't wait till we come back here again! read more

Hubby and I had breakfast, he had the country fried steak (4.5 stars) and I had the DeBary Diner omelet (5 stars, which I very rarely give). Waitress was pleasant and accommodating. Loving this place recently. The breakfast egg, cheese, ham, sandwich on an English muffin with a side ham steak is my favorite breakfast and the club sandwich is a tasty good size lunch item. Have only done takeout since it's changed ownership so can only comment on quality of food. But will continue to order and will try fine in soon. read more

New ownership so I thought I would give them another try. The positive: Best breakfast potatoes I've had in the state. Sliced red potatoes cooked with onions and SEASONING! Veggie omelet was heavy on the onion and peppers, spinach was minimal and mushrooms weren't to be seen. However the Swiss cheese was plentiful. The negative: Horrible service. Walked in and ignored. Didn't see a sign so asked if it was open seating. The response was "yeah". At the time only three other tables had customers so it wasn't busy. My empty coffee cup was refilled when my food arrived and never again. I had to ask for jelly for my toast as they don't keep it on the table and the server didn't bother to ask if I needed anything when she delivered my meal. My bill was dropped off without a word (and without a coffee refill) while I was still eating. Two different totals were on the check, cash was one price, credit the other. Debary Diner has GONE WOKE! Under new ownership, which has DRAMATICALLY changed the menu and increased the prices of everything. Gone are the inventive, weird burgers and all sorts of goofy eggs benedict combinations - now it's basic diner stuff at like double the price. I had a Cuban which was honestly pretty good, but clocking in at nearly $16 is definitely not worth it. Plus, they took all the psycho alt-right stuff off the walls and changed the TVs from OANN and NewsMax to, like, ChiveTV. Come on. They even managed to make the logo boring! The best part about the old ownership was how hilariously "old man yells at cloud" the place was, and now it's just like every other boring overpriced restaurant ever. We wanted to check things out with the new ownership. The service was great. She didn't work for the old owners. Probably a good thing. I had the classic Benedict and my wife had the meat lovers omelet. Food came quickly. My Benedict was perfect. The omelet was stuffed with meat. I would have rated higher but the menu is limited. I'd like to see some hot diner classics like meatloaf, open faced hot roast beef and fried chicken. It's also curious to offer a fried fish sandwich without having fish and chips on the menu. Keto Bowl may not be put on this Yelp app yet, but I HIGHLY suggest getting it. It's both healthy AND delicious. The eggs were cooked "egg-zactly" how I wanted them to be & service from our waitress, Pam, was superb. It may have been too busy for her to be SUPER attentive, she still got our order 100% right, checked up on us while eating & was sincerely kind. Stopped in because I saw that the place has new ownership. I immediately noticed the difference - previous ownership's political rant was no longer on the front door, TV's were not all on a "news" channel. The place looks much cleaner and food was better than the last time I was here - western omelette, home fries, toast, and coffee. The biggest difference that I noticed is the staff. Having a good crew makes a difference - they were attentive, efficient, and friendly - a major upgrade over the last time I was here a year ago. read more

We always wanted to stop here. I had the Cuban eggs Benedict. It was Cuban bread with mojo pulled pork ham Swiss cheese. It was soooo good I would definitely go back to get this again. The corn beef hash though it was canned it was so crispy on the outside it was yummy! The pancake was so fluffy and large the size of the plates. The best was the hash browns where triangles shape and the best part was it had so much potato in the middle one of the best hash browns. We made a special trip from Davenport to give the Debary Diner a try. We're big fans of local businesses, and we support them whenever we can, and as a dividend, when it comes to restaurants, the food is usually better than what we'd get if we'd eaten at a franchise or a chain. In this regard, the Debary Diner did not disappoint! But I'm getting ahead of myself..... The only downside I could ferret out was that you really do have to be looking for it. That said, it's well worth the extra attention. When you open the door to the Diner, you're immediately struck with its personality. The whimsical little signs adorning the wall, the photos of Rick Stacey with various rocks stars over the course of his career are a callback to the days when restaurants actually had some local, personal charm, and not just cookie-cutter trappings which are, more or less, indistinguishable from most other brands. I'm a music fan and a musician, so I notice what's playing any place I go. I haven't ever been to an eatery and been greeted with "Roundabout" by Yes, followed by "Fly Me To The Moon" by the Chairman-of-the-Board followed by "Come Together" by Aerosmith (and a few tunes later came "The Night Chicago Died" by Paper Lace, one of my all-time favorites). I just love that kind of eclectic playlist, and it adds to the diner's overall charm. The service was top-notch, too! We hadn't been seated more than two or three minutes before our waitress greeted us and took our drink orders. That's a stickler for me. It's not uncommon to wait a bit to even get a "hello, how are ya" at many restaurants, so prompt, friendly attention is a winner. I'd compliment her by name, but I lost track of the receipt before I got home to write this, but I have to tell you that I'll look forward to her serving us again when we make our next trip to Debary! She was funny, and was singing to herself as she passed by our table, and had clever, quirky recommendations for us. My wife ordered the Tuna Melt on Rye, and I got the "Biga** BLT", which was no exaggeration.... one-half pound of tasty, artery-obstructing goodness (if you gotta go, THIS sammich is the way to do it!!) . The food came quickly, served with a smile, and it was hot and delicious. I'd substituted the onion rings for fries, and they were fantastic. Overall, it was a great experience, and one that we'll happily repeat. In fact, we'll look for an excuse to return. Since it's just a stone's throw from Sanford and Mount Dora, we'll detour to the Debary Diner whenever we're in that area. One other thing that was gratifying to see: A local business that was BUSY. Most of the tables were occupied, and most of them turned over during our visit. I think that speaks well for the experience, and reinforces the idea in my mind that our visit wasn't just a fluke. In this economy, it's no small trick to put butts in seats, and it appears that Rick and Angie have figured out just how to do that, and worked hard to deliver a good product served with class and style. The naysayers, for all their saber-rattling about the political division in this country (while missing the irony of indulging in that very division), will never know what they're missing. Good! Awful service! My server, from what i can tell, has waited tables all her life and at this stage in her life she is tired. Basic customer service was lacking. Taking oders from faithful local isn't cool. I was seated first but was last to place my order. Maybe this establishment needs two more wait staff. The breakfast was good. Wow we went here on a Friday afternoon. And got seated very quickly. We didn't eat breakfast so we decided to eat breakfast at noon. I had a egg and sausage sandwich. Two eggs two pieces of cheese two pieces of sausage and rye bread for $5. Then they made me a fresh pot of coffee and it was delicious. The price is here are unbeatable and the quality of food is outstanding. The decor is music memorabilia. The owner used to be or still is local radio DJ. Rick Stacey. So he has pictures all over the walls of all the famous musicians he has met over the years. They also play some light rock and roll music in the background. Ordered two 1/2 pound cheeseburgers with fries cooked medium. I ordered it to be picked up and told them I was there and they said they'd get me when it was ready. I saw them pack a togo bag with two styrofoam boxes and thought it may be someone else's. Sitting there waiting, there was a couple waiting for a side of cottage cheese and the server apologized for the kitchen taking so long and the couple looked like they were halfway through their meal by that point. Ten minutes goes by and I'm 15 minutes past when they said my meal would be ready. I asked the server who then said she didn't know I was waiting for food, even though I had already told them. When I leave the couple still didn't get their cottage cheese and done with their meals. I get home and the burgers are extremely well done and fries soggy from sitting for so long. Burger was hard to chew and swallow. I love supporting local, so we were disappointed with this meal. And to top it off, our burgers were $16 each. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if that political stunt they pulled would be to get people from the area to go back in, because certainly nobody is going for the food... And I'm sorry, but I don't care what side of the political fence you sit on, if the food sucks, the food sucks. And at this place, the food sucks. Save money, go to the Winn-Dixie next-door, yeah whatever items you need from the frozen section and go home and heat it up... We have been wanting to try this diner for awhile and found time on Sat. A.m. we sat outside due to the excessive crowd. The waitress never acknowledged us for over 10min, till we went inside & then she said it would b 10 more min b4 she could get to us. I wanted to see what this place was like and everything I read was politicized so I waited and finally got there. It's a diner, that would seem obvious but the atmosphere is just like you would expect. This is the busiest and the cleanest diner I have seen, the bathrooms were even clean. When you first come in they are slow to greet you because everyone is busy but don't judge. The menu is basic, but the food is great. I followed the waitress' recommendation and had the Cuban sandwich with plantain chips and am glad I did. My wife went for the breakfast sandwich and the short stack pancakes and no you can't finish all of it, but it was great. There is more on the menu I want to try, so I'll be back. The restaurant is clean, the food is good and the staff is friendly, the atmosphere is gitchy, TV's with Fox business news, signs with conservative jokes, and support for our troops everywhere.
