He mirrored the vibe, spending a lot of time talking to me about my daily eye-related habits, the health of my eyes, and ways to reduce strain as I stare at two screens + my phone ALL DAY. Then Deanna helped me find new frames. She has a talented eye for what looks good and is super patient while you make your selection. Far West Optical does not care about your wellbeing. I went in for my eye exam in February and…read moreordered my annual supply of contacts, I still do not have them. Tomorrow is AUGUST. Far West has had numerous opportunities to make this situation right yet they continue to make me wait and use my old contact lenses. Here is the timeline below. After my eye exam, they order my contact lenses to the wrong address. The contacts are returned to sender and the office reaches out to me. We verify my address and they mail them again. This time, UPS was the courier and the contacts were marked as delivered with a blurry photo but they were not at my door when I checked. I communicated this to Far West and they refused to help, saying it was out of their hands because UPS had a confirmation of delivery. So, I opened a claim with UPS and they quickly admitted fault to my package missing because the blurry photo was not proof of delivery. This happened back in May. The problem now is that the claim has to be processed through the shipper's account for reimbursement, per UPS policy. Therefore, Far West needed to fill out and submit a 2 page document provided by UPS. Instead of doing that, Wendy at the front desk sent that paperwork to me and said it was not their responsibility. So, I filled out the paperwork for them and emailed it back on May 21st. I called on May 24th to confirm they had submitted it and was met with hostility. I was told I had to submit the paperwork to UPS, they would not do anything. Then they gaslight me stating that the blank paperwork they sent to me that I filled out for them was originally given to them by me, despite me having proof via email they sent me the blank paperwork. I called them out and they were rude, unaccountable, and hung up on me when I tried to add a UPS representative to the call. The next week, they agreed to work with UPS and submit the paperwork only after I escalated with UPS. After a slow back and forth of a few weeks waiting, UPS mailed a reimbursement check on June 13th for the contacts. At this point, it probably would not surprise you that Far West did not check the address the check was being mailed to and it went to a World Wide Express office in Dallas, the 3rd party company they use to create courier labels. It took over a month after the check was sent for Far West to get back to me and they are offering no solution forward, saying I will have to start the whole process over. They could contact their World Wide Express agent and find out where the check is, but I can't even ask them to do that because my calls and voicemails are not being returned and UPS cannot get in contact with them. This is a horrible office that will lie, drag their feet, and take no responsibility for their mistakes. I begged to have them order me the replacement contacts nearly three months ago when UPS admitted fault and agreed to a reimbursement but Far West refused. They will not order the contacts until they receive the reimbursement, a process they have dragged out for months. Their payment is more important than your healthcare. Wish I could recommend this place because Dr. Erik Haselhorst is wonderful but it is not worth dealing with the office at Far West Optical. I would look elsewhere, don't make the same mistake I did as a returning customer.

Dr. Yousef violates VSP in network terms and tries to deceptively get you to pay more. Multiple…read morepeople at VSP confirmed she is providing false information and violating VSP terms. Her office suggested what I believe to be insurance fraud. I grew up in West Lake, went to school here, still live here. Nobody I know goes to Dr Yousef for good reason. I called beforehand to make sure they knew how to handle medically necessary contacts and to confirm they knew that I was entitled to a year's worth of contacts (any brand/type) under VSP. Two people said yes. After my appointment, they told me I would owe several hundred dollars because VSP only covers a certain dollar amount. Per VSP, the office is supposed to write off the overage between the cost and what VSP pays. They are not allowed to "balance bill" patients the overage. It's like when medical doctors have a contracted rate with your insurance company. It's the max they can charge. I called VSP. They stated that Dr Yousef is violating their terms. The terms are clear: 1) the doctor is to provide one year supply of contacts regardless of brand or cost and 2) they cannot charge me any overage from what VSP pays the doctor. VSP called the office and informed them they could not balance bill. The office then called me and said I had two choices: 1) they would make a claim for one year supply with VSP, keep the annual allowance VSP pays, but deduct boxes until the cost is under VSP's allowance (this is what I believe is insurance fraud and also, I wouldn't have medically necessary contacts for several months) OR 2) I have to switch to a cheaper brand. In other words, they are not doing what's in the patient's best interest but what's in their financial best interest. I informed Salina at this office that they cannot do this. I called VSP back. They said the doctor absolutely cannot do this under the VSP terms the doctor agreed to when they became a VSP provider. Salina also sent me an email stating that they were going to balance bill me or I needed to go to cheaper contacts. They then told me to go somewhere else. Basically, they were caught violating the VSP insurance network terms and told me to go away. I read Salina's email to VSP and they stated it was "completely false information" and I filed a grievance against Dr Yousef with VSP for violating the terms she agreed to when becoming a VSP doctor. I have had medically necessary contacts for 13 years. Ive never had a problem. My last doctor put me in these specific contacts (brand and type) because we tried many different brands and these were the ones that worked the best for me. I don't know the cost of them since I've never had to pay. My previous doctor was looking out for my best interest. Dr Yousef is not. She's looking out for her financial best interest. Unfortunately, my previous doctor is in Houston so I was forced to find a doctor in Austin and had the unfortunate experience of going to Dr Yousef. She also misdiagnosed me before she even looked at my eyes and missed a cataract until I told her. Then she told me her initial diagnosis of my medical condition was wrong. Her diagnosis didn't sound right so I pushed back and then she looked at my eyes. Shouldn't she have looked at my eyes before she went off about some medical diagnosis? She pressured me to buy glasses from her. Previous doctors have told me that I cannot use glasses because of my condition. They give me huge headaches. I told Dr Yousef this but she was intent on hard selling me glasses because she makes money off the frames. I do not have a lot of confidence in Dr Yousef's skills or thoroughness as a doctor. She can probably handle easy cases but not anything more than that and definitely not my case. She sent me home with trials that gave me a horrible headache within 2 hours. When I called the next day, she said to try them again. I again got dizzy and had a horrible headache. I was supposed to come back in but because of the misleading and deceptive billing practices, I didn't return. I called before making an appointment to make sure I wouldn't be in this exact situation but her office (Vicki) assured me they were familiar with medically necessary contacts AND confirmed I would be able to receive a years worth covered by VSP. They also never issued a refund they promised and I had to dispute it with my credit card.

Called beforehand; they said walk-ins are always welcome (but really, it makes sense to have an appointment anyways); otherwise walk-ins are used to fill in slots where appoints have been canceled or if there are no shows. Vision insurance is accepted, as well as payment without insurance. After checkin, waited for a bit before going through the standard eye exams. Afterwards, we were brought to the exam room. Reading letters on a screen occurs using the reflection of the screen located behind you in the mirror. Afterwards, the optometrist will come in and set you up on the slit lamp to inspect your eyes, and the phoropter to see how you'll see best. Optometrist was quick, efficient, and thorough. They'll let you know what's up if they see an issue with your eyes. Overall, friendly efficient staff. Easy to get the prescription after the exam. If getting glasses, the prescription also indicates recommended lens materials.

I recently moved back to Austin, TX, and needed to update my eye prescription from 2022. I was amazed at the service and technology in the office coming from a technology background myself. They have the latest technology including image scanning, so you don't need to do the pupil dilation, which was always a pain. They, the staff, and doctor found some conditions I needed to address. These are mostly genetic and advanced age symptoms. Luckily the outstanding team and Dr. Richard Maybury addressed it, and I will receive the appropriate treatment. As in all my reviews, I am so excited to highlight a business that goes above and beyond. I will continue to have myself and my wife visit Dr. Maybury annually as it is most important in our day and age, and he is an exceptional doctor of optometry.
