Dr. Alexander is one of the few doctors in ANY PROFESSION in Austin who can't say "no" to walk-ins. If you have an appointment with her and some "emergency" or very urgent walk-in appears while you're in the waiting room, be prepared to take a back seat. This is not to suggest that the status of your own reason is suddenly downgraded. To be able to say that this wonderful PERSON is also a doctor -- among the very tops in her profession -- is to be very lucky. There aren't enough nice things I can say about Dr. Alexander. I feel literally honored to have her as my eye doctor. If you have to wait a little longer for your appointment just consider that she is going to take the same amount of extra time with you when it's your turn rather than rush you to the pay window so that she can hurry in the next feed, or to say, "Be careful what you wish for; you may get it," in which case you might want to look for a less conscientious doctor. Was very disappointed with this office. It was dark and uninviting. The receptionist, while approachable, was not very cheerful. My appt. Was scheduled for 3:45 and at 4:05 I went up to the window to ask how much longer the wait was going to be. I feel this information could have and should have been communicated to me upon checking in. The receptionist made several excuses then proceeded to tell me she Was 'just about' to take me back. When we went in to the room, I sat in one of the chairs and she told me I had to sit in the big chair. I waited in the room for another 10 to 15 minutes with no one coming in to greet me or communicate the wait. Finally, after being there for approx. 40 minutes, I walked out, told her to cancel my appt., and that I would look for another office that respected a patient's time and was more readily to communicate! read more

My husband and I have been patients of Dr. Alexander for 13 years. We get annual exams for our eyesight, cornea, lens, and retina condition. My husband had cataract surgery and follow up surgery a year later for as the lens sac became cloudy. He now has 20/20 eyesight. He is being followed for glaucoma now and his pressures are very good. I just saw her for a new eyeglass prescription. I love her and her assistant that sees you first. I have read some reviews about excessive wait times and can say in 13 years we have never experienced that. I highly recommend Dr. Alexander. read more

I recently saw Maureen M. Alexander as a new patient. I had a chalazion, bump on the eyelid, and wanted to get it removed. I researched other doctors in town, and was quoted the best price with Dr. Alexander. The cost for the procedure at this clinic was about one half the cost of competitors. As to be expected, I waited a bit of time. I was well prepared by the receptionist when I made the appointment. She told me the in/out procedure would be 1.5 - 2hrs. The actual procedure took about 10mins. There's more... when I saw the doctor, she (the dr) told me that I would have to make another appointment to get the chalazion removed. When I informed her that the receptionist scheduled me for both the doctor's visit and the procedure in the same appointment, the team made the effort to complete both, all within the span 1.5-2hrs. I say all this because I think it's worth being really clear up front with questions, with this doctor, and any doctor, in order to know what you're agreeing to in terms of time, cost, and what it to be expected. I went to see Dr. Alexander to have her look at this growth on my eye. Dr. Alexander knew exactly what was on my eye and called it a pinguecula . She also examined my eyesight and said I could get by with your basic reading glasses and did not need a special prescription yet. So I was a very happy patient knowing I did not need surgery on my eyeball , She did advise me to always wear hats and sunglasses to keep the pinguecula from growing bigger. Over all I thought Dr. Maureen was very pleasant and very professional and knew her stuff front and back. My favorite thing was not being recommended to have that thing surgically removed. I am so happy to have found a prompt and personable yet professional eye doctor. I would highly recommend Ms. Alexander to any one looking for a good and honest eye doctor. read more

Dr. Alexander is fine overall. I came in because of some funky crap going on with my eyelid. On my first visit I waited about 30 minutes in the waiting room and was called in and seen almost immediately by the assistant. However, about another half an hour passed before Dr. Alexander came in. Today I went in, waited in the waiting room for about half an hour, was seen quickly by the assistant and waited about 40 minutes before Dr. Alexander came in to shoot my eyelid up with novacaine (sp?). Clearly you would assume the procedure would follow soon after. Nope, Dr. Alexander then saw other patients for the next twenty minutes while I sat there with a dead eye. When she finally did get to the actual procedure it was not that bad, it wasn't pleasant, but overall not that traumatizing. She's a nice enough lady and seems to be skilled in her practice but the wait time is just absurd. My biggest suggestion would be to reduce the number of appointments in a day as it seemed like she was totally overrun and had a very hard time keeping up with the schedule. read more

This happened a couple of years ago but would not want anyone to go through this so I feel i must write a review. My mom who is 90 years old went to see Dr. Alexander on the advice of a neighbor. She diagnosed my mom with glaucoma and proceeded to treat her for glaucoma. Over the next 18 months my mom's vision went downhill to the point of her only being able drive in our neighborhood. Now please understand that this is a woman who is beyond healthy...she still plays tennis and walks at least 4 times a day. My mom got a second opinion with Dr. Broberg here in Austin and guess what? She only had cataracts... how do you misdiagnose that? She has since had simple cataract surgery and is back to normal. WHAT DO YOU CALL THE PERSON THAT GRADUATED LAST IN MEDICAL SCHOOL?????????????? DOCTOR... Please folks do not go to her and spread the word. I went into their office to talk to them about it and the front desk person shut the reception door on me. Can you believe that???? I have been seeing Dr. Alexander for a few years for my own vision. My experience has always been good. When I had trouble getting my daughter in to see a pediatric ophthalmologist, after the school nurse noted a problem with her vision, I called Dr. Alexander's office. The wait would have been months, but Dr. Alexander saw her within the week. She diagnosed her with Strabismus and Amblyopia. I made an appointment with a pediatric ophthalmologist due to my daughter hating the eye drops, but had the same experience with the drops. She just doesn't like them in her eyes and the pediatric eye doctor couldn't make that experience any better. Also we got the same diagnosis and prescription, so seeing Dr. Alexander was just as well. I like being able to get a quick appointment. Early morning or just after lunch is usually the best time. She does have a busy office, but I see that as a good sign. read more

I had an absolutely amazing experience at Dr. Alexander's office. I called to make appointments for my children and myself because we were all having allergies and irritation, and I needed an updated prescription for my glasses. I am a mother of two young children and it is never fun going to the doctor's office. When we walked in to the waiting room, we were greeted by a warm smile from the nurse. I signed us in and sat down with my kids to fill out our paperwork. Of course that didn't last long and my curious 3 year old began talking to the nurse and asking her questions. She was very polite and friendly which was a big help as it gave me time to fill out the paperwork. We were invited back to the exam room shortly after arriving. My 3 year old was first and sat in the chair. Dr. Alexander came in and introduced herself to us. My 3 year old is use to us going to the doctor for shots and she immediately told Dr. Alexander that she didn't want any shots. The doctor was very reassuring and calming and told her not to worry, which really helped put my daughter at ease. The doctor showed pictures to my daughter to see if she could tell what they were from a distance. It took a second for my daughter to get the hang of what the doctor wanted her to do and where to look, but Dr. Alexander was very patient and friendly. The doctor even had to put eye drops in my daughter's eyes and it went great! While her eyes were dilating, it was my turn in the chair. I had my one year old in my lap which made it challenging but both the nurse and doctor were patient and accommodating. One of the things I really liked was that when I was telling the doctor about the issues I was having with my eyes, she showed genuine concern and took the time to explain what was wrong and things I could do to help my eyes feel better. My 15 month old was the last to have his eyes checked. The nurse came in to help the doctor put eye drops in his eyes which was difficult but he got over it quickly. The doctor was having a hard time looking in his eyes because he kept moving. She had a variety of toys she brought out to keep his attention which worked for a little bit. I told her I was still nursing him and I could try to sooth him like that. She was perfectly fine with it and encouraged me to try. I worked like a charm. She didn't make me feel self-conscious and she was able to complete his exam while I nursed. All of the rooms were clean, neat, and welcoming. Needless to say, I couldn't say enough positive things about my experience here and would strongly recommend them. We will definitely make our appointments here in the future. read more
