And unless my memory is failing, his father (Dr. Mitchel Wong) treated my mother's cataracts in the 1980s. I have always been impressed by the state-of-the-art skills and equipment Austin Eye maintains. I'm also impressed that the Wongs have chosen to share their expertise by endowing an eye institute at the University of Texas at Austin. My most recent personal experience with Austin Eye was surgery for lens replacement. While some have derided the facility on Bee Caves Rd as factory-like, I would counter that with the fact that consistent good practices yield consistently good results. I felt well cared for throughout the process, and the results (my excellent recovery and visual acuity) speak for themselves. In the event there had been any problems, I was given Dr. Wong's direct cell number and email. The Austin Eye facility is beautiful, modern, and well-maintained. The same may be said of the older location along Jollyville Rd. I highly recommend Austin Eye for their expertise, state-of-the-art equipment set, and very positive and helpful office staff.

This is not to suggest that the status of your own reason is suddenly downgraded. To be able to say that this wonderful PERSON is also a doctor -- among the very tops in her profession -- is to be very lucky. There aren't enough nice things I can say about Dr. Alexander. I feel literally honored to have her as my eye doctor. If you have to wait a little longer for your appointment just consider that she is going to take the same amount of extra time with you when it's your turn rather than rush you to the pay window so that she can hurry in the next feed, or to say, "Be careful what you wish for; you may get it," in which case you might want to look for a less conscientious doctor. There are plenty.

Was scheduled for 3:45 and at 4:05 I went up to the window to ask how much longer the wait was going to be. I feel this information could have and should have been communicated to me upon checking in. The receptionist made several excuses then proceeded to tell me she Was 'just about' to take me back. When we went in to the room, I sat in one of the chairs and she told me I had to sit in the big chair. I waited in the room for another 10 to 15 minutes with no one coming in to greet me or communicate the wait. Finally, after being there for approx. 40 minutes, I walked out, told her to cancel my appt., and that I would look for another office that respected a patient's time and was more readily to communicate!

After three days and nights of misery, I was informed that the Dr. had done all he could and I needed to see a specialist. Dr. McGlathery's staff got me in the same day I called for an appointment. After thoroughly examining my eye, Dr. McGlathery stated that, due to extremely dry eyes, I had torn the skin that covers the cornea. He immediately gave me antibiotic drops there in his office - and didn't even charge me for it! He also had me come back the very next morning to verify that the correct antibiotic was being used. Of course, he also prescribed drops to help with the pain. That night was the first time I slept since the issue began! I can't even begin to express my gratitude to Dr. McGlathery and his staff. I definitely recommend Dr. McGlathery and can say in all honesty that he has earned my loyalty. When it comes to my eyes, I won't go to anyone else!

On Tuesday, February 3, I went to Austin Retina because I started experiencing discomfort that…read morequickly turned into sharp pain in my right eye. I scheduled an appointment with Dr. Ryan C. Young because the doctor I usually see was not available that day. Unfortunately, my experience with Dr. Young was very disappointing. I had read mixed reviews before, but this was my first firsthand experience with him. Dr. Young refused to treat me, stating that he did not know me and that I should follow up with my regular doctor instead. During the visit, he made comments that I found unprofessional and discouraging, including saying that my eye was "dead" and that no treatment would change that. I have been treated by other retina specialists for the same eye in equal or worse condition, and none of them ever refused care or used language like this. What made the situation more frustrating is that I was still experiencing sharp pain, yet I was advised to wait three months to see my regular doctor instead of receiving any immediate help or guidance. Given the pain I was in and the nature of the comments made, I left feeling dismissed and unsupported. This experience did not meet the level of care or professionalism I expected from a retina specialist.

He has been among…read morethe worst doctor's that I have ever had the misfortune to have dealt with for the following reasons: - Rushes the appointment - General disinterest - Does NOT fill your prescriptions In my initial appointment with him, he attempt to make an effort at listening to me however the entire appointment felt extremely rushed and he made nearly every attempt to end it within 10-15 minutes. Following this, it was nearly impossible to get a prescription filled by him to the point that in the last two months, my prescriptions were filled by other doctor's (despite significant efforts including calls, online messages in the portal, and online messages on the Victory Medical Klarna messenger ranging from 10 days up to day of). The staff was also deeply unhelpful, letting me know that in order to get my prescription refilled, I should use the online portal, but if I sent in my prescription request earlier than 5 business days, then it would be ignored. If I sent in later than 5 business days, it was also likely to be ignored. And when I did send it in 5 business days, it was still ignored. I have left several online messages, following up each day, in an attempt to just get a response, and in the past few months I have received none. And god forbid you have multiple prescriptions, because Dr. Pekar will maybe fill one prescription and completely ignore the others. They also look to charge your insurance as much as possible. By state law, practices can but are not required to drug test you for controlled prescriptions. Most doctors range somewhere between once to twice a year. Dr. Pekar will force you into doing a drug test EVERY month. So, not only is he an uncaring and lazy doctor, he also wants to take as much money from you and your insurance by pushing needless tests on you as often as possible. In sum, please do NOT see Dr. Pekar if you want quality care.
