De La Torre is one of those places you would probably drive past without realizing what you are missing. It is tucked into an unassuming shopping center, but absolutely worth seeking out. Once inside, it feels less like a restaurant and more like you have been invited over to a friend's dining room. It is warm, relaxed, and genuinely welcoming. The service hits that perfect balance. It is friendly, attentive, and never overbearing. You feel taken care of without it being a production. The food really delivers. The special, chicken thighs stuffed with smoked ham, was standout and memorable. The margarita pizza is exactly what you want it to be. It is simple, well executed, and perfect for sharing. Do not let the "small" size fool you. It is easily enough for two, maybe even three if you are catching up over drinks. Portions across the board are generous. The fish entrees are especially impressive. The salmon alone felt like it had to be close to half a pound. All of this comes at prices that feel more than fair for the quality and quantity you are getting. This is definitely a spot worth returning to. Found this old school Italian resto a while back. Been in twice within a years period and will include this when searching/craving sit-down old school Italian. Very homey like going to your Nonna's house. There's even an armoire in the dining room that totally gave me the feels, since all my grandmas are no longer around. This also isn't the hip lighter style of Italian like A16 or most places in SF these days. This is heavier and more hearty type of Italian, like you'd see in the Godfather. Lol Cup of Manhattan chowder ($8ish/3*) I usually love red chowders, but this was way too thick for me. And the tomato flavor gets lost when it is that thick. But good chunks of potato and clams. Fried Raviolis ($12/4*) I think I've only had fried ravs once, so I had to revisit. I liked it. There's like a dusting of bread crumbs and the pasta is both chewy and crisp. The filling is just ricotta but goes so well with the requisite marinara that is on the side. I don't drown my bites usually, but I seriously slather this tomato sauce on each rav. And with sips of red wine, some chewy bread, I'm off to that old school Italian appetite that only a grandma could appreciate. Carafe of Chianti ($27/4*) I'm sure this is just jug wine, but more times than not a good fruity red wine is all I need with a rich meal. It was good enough for past generations, and it'll work for me too. The kicker here is that they serve it in this nicely painted ceramic pitcher that makes me feel like I'm in the countryside of Tuscany. This size is equivalent to a bottle so plenty for 2. Hanger Steak ($35ish/4*) This was on specials the first time I came here. It was a decent steak that was already sliced up. I remember killing it as we had just golfed, so can't really recall a sauce. I remember it came with a side of spaghetti in red sauce, but I'm sure you can get a potato side if you want. But how often can you get a slab of red meat with a pile of old school pasta, amirite?! Pour me another glass of wine from that pitcher, all over it. Lamb Loin Chops ($35/4*) This was on specials the most recent visit. First off it wasn't the rib chops that look like lollypops. These are the 'porterhouse' of the lamb so has more of bone to deal with. They were nice and thick and meaty, that a medium rare was easily achieved. The sauce was like a balsamic demi mix, which was just okay to me. I appreciated the fruity touch but was just too tart for me to wipe the plate clean. If I like a sauce, I will mop it up with bread or meat til it is clean. I left easily half the sauce. I like they do a seasonal veggie of the day and it is usually not just green beans or broccoli. My recent memory was chard cooked with chunks of butternut squash, which I enjoyed a lot. Went great with the mashed potatoes and the lamb. Warm Peach Cobbler ($11/3*) Ok I love a warm, cinnamon-y crisp layer with vanilla ice cream on top. That crust was more like a baked cookie type of crust versus the crumbly type with oats/nuts. It was decent with the ice cream. But the fruit filling was very small that it felt like over 50% of the cup was topping, and I just wanted more warm and tangy fruit element to balance things out. Service always great, I'm not a reg but I bet if I come in a few more times within a year, that they'd probably know my name. These aren't a bunch of college aged kids working for party/boba money. The restaurant is small and cozy, and since we went during lunch, it was packed. My coworker and I asked our waiter for a recommendation that's something similar to fettuccine Alfredo. Instead of suggesting anything on the menu, he said they could make us fettuccine Alfredo "no problem." We asked to add shrimp and were given the choice between prawns or "smaller shrimp." We chose the smaller ones since the prawns looked massive in the Yelp photos. What we ended up with was basically fettuccine Alfredo soup with bay shrimp. I was too shy and embarrassed to ask for a different dish in front of my coworkers, so I tried to fix it myself by thickening the sauce myself with the extra parmesan on the table. I did my best without looking like I was trying to use the entire jar of parmesan. On the bright side, the Pomodoro Bruschetta, Milano Bruschetta and Calamari Fritti appetizers were great, and the chicken Marsala my coworkers ordered looked solid too. We hoped for the warmth and hospitality a family-run spot promises. Instead, we received a masterclass in how to make patrons feel unwanted, an experience defined by one person's demeanor: the hostess. From the moment we entered, her attitude set the tone. She met us with a flat, unwelcoming expression--no smile, no greeting--just an impatient, "What can I do for you?" Her irritation was palpable when we lacked a reservation. When we politely asked for a booth due to mobility issues, her "no" was cold and final. Yet, minutes later, we watched as her face lit up for other guests. She smiled, laughed, and greeted them by name, ushering them to their tables with a warmth we were explicitly denied. This wasn't just poor service; it was a stark, hurtful contrast that made us feel like intruders in a private club. It was mean, inconsiderate, and created an unwelcoming atmosphere that never lifted. The service matched the welcome and our assigned waiter mirrored this indifference. He was aloof, sighed at simple requests like water, and acted annoyed when we needed a spilled glass of ice cleaned from our table. The hostess who answered was the same woman from the door. Her voice was once again cold, curt, and thick with irritation. There was no grace, no understanding--just more of the same dismissive chill we'd endured all night. For two seniors who had already been overlooked throughout the meal, her complete lack of compassion in that moment was the final, profound disappointment. A restaurant's soul is set at the front door. The hostess here cultivated an environment where newcomers, especially two elderly women just hoping for a nice night out, were treated as a nuisance while regulars were embraced as family. Combined with inattentive service, uneven policies, and a major error in oversalting, this was not just a bad meal--it was a deeply discouraging experience. Was glad that we decided to try this Italian restaurant in the neighbourhood. Really enjoy the food and atmosphere this restaurant provides. The place is not very big and wasn't crowded when my family went; still the service was attentive and friendly. We ordered spaghetti with meatballs, the baked eggplant dish with polenta, pesto linguine, and the chicken Caesar salad. I really enjoyed the meatballs; it had great texture and still very juicy. The tomato sauce was very flavorful and fresh and paired well with the al dente noodles. The pesto sauce is light and has a delicate fragrance of herbs; with the freshly made pasta, every bite was satisfying! Chicken salad was also very tasty. Eggplant dish was probably our least favorite with the polenta a bit under seasoned. We were very full but we still ordered a couple of desserts to celebrate my daughter's birthday. The restaurant gave us a slice of chocolate cake in the house with a candle too! It was a very pleasant way to end the evening. I've been to De La Tore many times in the past. The service as always was outstanding. The wait staff was very attentive. The food was disappointing. I had the lamb and my friend had the steak. Although I asked that the lamb be medium rare it was dry. There was too much Parmesan crust on the top, which I had to scrape off as it made the meat seem even drier. As a side I was given mashed potatoes and brussels sprouts. I really like the brussels sprouts but there were only three on my plate. My friend had eight on her plate. We both had mashed potatoes. They looked like they been served with an ice cream scoop. I thought they tasted faintly as though they had instant mashed potatoes mixed into them. They were neither buttery nor creamy in flavor. Although it was about 7 o'clock, the potatoes tasted and seemed like they've been sitting around in a pot all day. I couldn't take more than a couple of bites. My friend had the steak and she said it was tough. She did say that the reduction sauce with it was very good. De La Tore has been a favorite of several of my friends and it seems like we go there at least once every six months. read more

De La Torre's is one of our favorite local Italian restaurant. When I think of Italian, De La Torre's crosses my mind as pure Italian comfort food. Service is always friendly. Wednesday evening we went there to get a pasta entrée. We ended up selecting the baked Ziti. From the menu baked ziti is: "Sicilian sausage, tomato sauce, roasted peppers, onions, mozzarella." This is a nice alternative to lasagne which they also have. Tonight we started with a special mushroom soup which is probably the best mushroom soup we have had recently. It had several herbs that excellently flavored the soup. We then moved on to the Carciofi Fritti: "Baby artichokes crisp fried, herb aioli." This crispy Parmesan dusted fried artichoke appetizer makes a great addition to our dinner. We go there so often I must have just assumed I reviewed this place before. Next time we go I will need to get some pictures. We strongly recommend you give De La Torre's a try. My thanks to the owners for making this small business a great place to go for dinner. read more

Second was this is a very nice little cozy restaurant. Gave us a very warm and welcoming feeling. Bread & butter was tasty, fresh and warm. My wife got a tortellini dish, I got a calzone. Our friends ordered Caesar's with grilled chicken & Bolognese. Everything was delicious! We would have ordered the desert which our friends said is insanely good, but we were running short on time. The ambiance was okay. Good amount of seating. I was not too impressed with the food. We ordered the clam chowder as an appetizer, Chilean sea bass with angel hair pasta, and fresh pappardelle pasta with short ribs. The clam chowder flavor was okay but there were barely any clams in it. I love me a clammy clam chowder. The fresh pappardelle pasta was not cooked all the way. Some of the noodles were still stuck together and hard. I like my noodles al dente but this wasn't it. The meat was nice and tender. I enjoyed the Chilean sea bass. The service was awesome, the waitress constantly checked up on us to see if we needed anything else and was very friendly. Spaghettini 3.5/5: the portion was huge and can be easily split into two meals. The noodles were cooked Al dente and the sauce was flavorful. The meatballs had good flavor but it was little too soft for my liking. Warm gooey toffee cake 3/5: this is a nice sweet treat to end the meal. It was tasty but nothing to rave about. We ordered the bolognese, calamari, small pepperoni pizza and spaghetti meatballs and all items were a solid 5/5! Even the complimentary bread basket was amazing! We've been aware of the presence of Dela Torres in Pleasanton's dining scene for quite some time, however, we are not quite sure why it's taken us so many years to finally give it a try. And boy have we been missing out of such wholesome authentic Italian cuisine! The restaurant is located in a very unassuming location within a strip mall anchored by a Lucky's Supermarket. Upon entering, you immediately felt wished away into the kitchen of a countryside Italian kitchen. There is a sort of hominess to the decor and lighting that contributes to the authentic ambiance. Even the restrooms had that home touch, something uncharacteristic of most dining establishments. We were immediately greeted by a young gentleman who seated us promptly despite not having reservations made during the dinner hour on midweek day. I've been told that reservations are typically required. Their menu selection is quite extensive on top of an also very expansive daily menu special. Our waiter and other wait staff were very attentive in taking our order, refilling our waters and checking in on us throughout our meal. Even the owner stopped by at the end of our meal to check in on us, help clear our table, and offered the dessert menu for us. We ordered the lasagna and eggplant dish, both of which were terrific. Flavors were perfectly cured and presented nicely. The only area to critique was the lack of freshly grated parmesan. Instead, they serve pre-grated parmesan in a container for you to self scoop onto your dish. Prices are reasonable given the high quality of the food and service levels provided. This is a definite go-to spot for anyone who lives in town or in and around the Tri Valley. read more

Ambiance - 4 stars, had a nice booth, but you can see the front door and guests coming in to do their take out orders. not a big distraction, but it's a beautiful dinning room on the romantic side, could be nice if they put up a barrier to isolate the dinning room Price - 4 stars, very reasonable and a neighborhood gem. the 1 star off is in consideration of the tortellini review.
