First, the nail tech, Mai, did not sanitize her tools. They were just sitting in a tray covered in skin and nail clippings -- GROSS. That was not acceptable, but she refused to get other tools, saying it was fine. I should have left then. My gel manicure took all of 12 minutes! Never had I ever had such a sloppy, low quality gel manicure. The shape of my nails is nice, but otherwise they're chipping and peeling off after only four days. I went to pay and they charged me $35, which was NOT the advertised price. They refused to honor the sign outside, saying it was wrong -- not ok. I've been going to Vivian at DC Nail Spa every two weeks for the past 3 years. I have tipped 40% every single time. On Friday 11/18 I got my usual dip manicure with tips for $85. On Saturday 11/19, two nails broke. Today, 11/20, another nail broke. When this has happened in the past, I would just go in and get them fixed. Um why are my powder dip nails yellowing and looking like horrible a week after my manicure for my wedding and honeymoon??? And this is on top of the poor service my sister and I received. We were barked at, given such poor pedicures, they cut my sister's nails way too short, and I had to ask to switch my pedicurist after she kept cutting my nails at a slant. I have been to DC Nail Spa several times since they opened under new management. They are the best nail salon in Dupont at this price point, based on size, cleanliness and service. The salon is clean and well lit. There are refreshments and magazines availbale. They have a slightly smaller color selection than some other salons, but I am always able to find a color I like. The technicians are pleasant and professional. Thao is a particularly good technician. I have seen several individuals request Vivian, though I have never had her do my nails. I have had a positive experience each time I have gone. I have always gotten regular polish. One of my friends got gel polish, and her nails looked quite uneven and definitely needed another coat. She was very unhappy with the final product. Perhaps it was just the technician, but be on the look out for this. Bring your own flip flops! The staff here are all very professional and friendly and they take Covid precautions pretty seriously (temperature checks, hand washing upon arrival, sign in sheets, plexiglass, etc). Thankfully they still require masks. I've gotten manicures, pedicures, and a gel manicure here. The only reason I docked a star off is because I've noticed that sometimes they don't do the exact shape I want when shaping the nails, although that's a problem at many nails salons. Often I'll just shape the nails myself at home and tell them to just clean up the cuticles and polish which makes things easier. The prices are reasonable for the area. They give you a discount if you pay in cash and there's an ATM in the store. I usually go to Lynn or Thai but since they are both out on vacation , I had to go to Maya for a pedicure and Vivian for my SNS nail service. Today was the worst experience I've had at this salon and sadly will not returned after being a regular client for a year. As my nails were soaking in acetone during my pedicure (as usual during my appointments) Maya pulled my leg closer to her and the warm acetone spilled all over my lap, seeping into my pants and underwear. Spent 10 minutes in the salon restroom trying to clean up and most importantly make sure all the acetone was removed from causing any problems on my skin down there. An hour after pedicure, my clothes are stained noticeably and skin is irritated down there. I was still charged for the pedicure and received a condescending tone and response by Vivian the spill was not bad and there's nothing she can do, although I have been told she is the owner. I am greatly upset, uncomfortable and displeased with the lack of customer service. It's bad enough that every time I have an appointment , there is confusion. There's always an attempt to give me to another mail technician that i didn't request or a service is missing. But now I'm leaving the salon with acetone stained clothes and underwear, skin irritation and an overall annoyance at the condescending approach. I have been going to Molly for a year now. I changed to DC salon because my nails were weak from the previous salon's powder manicure procedure. Molly gives me a powder manicure, and yet my nails are the strongest they have been in years. Besides healthy nails, I have been able to be adventurous in color and designs. Molly shares various options I never would have considered, providing the latest in nail designs. I feel like I have my own manicurist and she remembers what I like. And she's a wonderful person that I enjoy talking to. I make appointments for powder manicures and regular pedicures and never have to wait more than 3 minutes. So I actually came in by accident (trying to get to a different nail salon), but they accepted my walk-in right away on Sunday around 4:30pm for a regular pedi and gel mani. Not sure if they treat all walk-ins like this, but the person I got was a little rude--rushed me when picking colors, questioned my color choice, didn't offer me any drinks. The pedicure was really thorough and nice, so I was going to let it go because the actual service I paid for was good. But then while she was doing my nails, she didn't ask if the color was enough/asked if my lighter color had enough coats and she messed up on my one thumb. It looks like there were air bubbles underneath and dried in a bumpy texture, so not even 24hrs later, the entire nail is chipping off/coming off. Admittedly, I probably should've said something while I was at the salon, but my nail technician basically left me drying on my own, didn't help me get my card out of my bag or take my shoes. I want to give a better Review but it wasn't a great experience and it certainly wasn't cheap. The person who worked on my nails took a while and was clearly attentive. But she cut me twice (and cut my friend just after me). My hands are drier than when I went in and my manicure could use another layer. It's pretty uneven.
