I chose this place because of the reviews and it was close to where I work so I thought it would be as simple and dropping off in the morning and picking up in the afternoon... not so true. Granted, this is nothing they told me or promised me... I just assumed from reading the reviews this is how the service worked. I could have called them, but I assumed they just would have told me they couldn't tell me how long until they had the computer and knew the problem. My laptop has been running very slow and I thought it might be infected with a virus or something that was causing my programs to freeze and/or run extremely slow. Like many people, I use my computer for work and it's critical to have it running properly. I got to the store first thing in the morning and was expecting I would be able to pick it up that afternoon. Chris helped me and after explaining my concerns, he told me they would go through my computer to find out what was wrong and it would be 3-4 days. I was shocked because I was expecting to get this done the same day. I explained to Chris that I couldn't do without the computer for a day - I do consulting work and a lot of video conferencing and had some video conferencing appointments later that day. Chris told me that was the standard turn around time but for $100 they could rush the work. I was stuck because I had to have my computer back that day so I said okay to the $100 rush order. About an hour after dropping off my laptop, Chris called back with an update on my computer. The good news was the computer didn't have a virus... the bad news is the computer is just old and doesn't have a proper hard dive or enough memory to run the programs I use or even run Windows 10 properly. When I picked up my computer they charged me $139... $139 just to tell me my computer is old and I need to buy a new one. So, to be clear, they did tell me it was going to be a $39 fee just to look at the computer and if they did any work, the $39 would be applied to the work but if nothing was done, it's $39 and it was $100 for a rush. However, when I went back to get my computer, it sure didn't appear as if they were so swamped that they couldn't have gotten to my computer. In fact, it was less than an hour after I dropped off my computer that they were able to tell me there was essentially nothing wrong with it. Chris told me they could update my computer with a new hard drive, new memory and transfer all the data for $750 (the hard drive and memory on Amazon are less than $250). As a Veteran, it disturbs me when a business takes advantage of people. Maybe a lot of people have multiple computers and I'm just the one person who has one computer but I absolutely need my computer in order to work so to be without my computer for 3-4 days isn't feasible. They do offer the "rush" service so I could get it back the same day... but when the only thing wrong with the computer is that it's old and outdated, it would seem the decent thing would be to charge only the $39. Again, it wasn't as if there was a line out the door or computers stacked waiting to be repaired. It seemed to take them no time at all to look at the computer and tell me I just needed to get something more up to date. They were more than happy to tell me for an exorbitant amount they would do the update but for not too much more, I was able to buy a brand new Dell laptop. They only charged me what they said they were going to charge... but I would think given the amount of time they spent and the fact the only thing they did was tell me I needed a new computer, they would not have charged me the $100 rush fee. As a Veteran, I would not recommend this place and I wish I would have read some other reviews and picked another place. read more

This place is the bomb. I've been there 3 times for 3 different things and they've come thru each time. 1) 2017 I cracked my iMac screen/fell off my desk (I know - yikes!). Quick fix - 2 days later and I'm back in business. 2) Dec 2019 I bought 2 iPhones for my parents for Christmas - to bring my parents into the 21st Century (both had flip phones before). I bought 2 iPhone 7s, brought them across the country to ATL for my parents. They even put them into little boxes so I could wrap them. My parents love them and there have been no issues. They even answered the phone the day after Christmas because I had a quick question. 3) Jan 12 2020 I cracked my MacBook Pro display and was at wit's end preparing for Rage Against the Machine tickets going on sale the next morning - Thursday 2.13.20. I dropped my MacBook off at 3:30pm the night before and at 6pm it was fixed (AAAAND - I got tickets for the RATM the next morning). They even caught another repair - the audio plug had a snapped earbud plug in it - that I had forgotten about, and took it out for free. As I said - they're the bomb. DC computers delivers again. While on vacation my buddy knocked over a glass of water and it got into my mac laptop, through the little grill on the backside. Within minutes my Touch Bar no longer functioned. He thought he was screwed and was going to need to buy me a new computer. I called DC computer as soon as I got home and they said bring my mac in immediately. The whole "immediately" thing kind of felt like a sales tactic, but I've never had issues like that with them so I trusted it and brought it right in. I dropped it off at 4 PM on Monday evening. I can't remember the guys name, but I think he might have had like a red beard, sort of hipster style maybe. We talked about the different outcomes, and I gave him permission to do what was needed to fix it. He called me back in 90 minutes! He told me he was done! Way cheaper than I expected it to be. He said basically it just needed to be cleaned up. He also told me I was smart to have gotten there quickly because water damage like that is super corrosive if you don't clean it up quickly. If I would've waited I would have likely needed to replace the entire computer. I was only down for two hours total. I run two companies off that lap top so it was very anxious for me. I recently upgraded my home desktop with a Dell Laptop, primarily for two reasons - the first being it was time, our Dell Inspiron 530 still functioned, but was getting slower. The second reason was we wanted the mobility that comes with owning a laptop. As part of this upgrade, we decided to copy the data from our Seagate external hard drive to a new Passport Ultra drive. The transfer of data was going great until about 20% in when the transfer paused and paused and paused. I suspect I may have contributed to that long pause somehow, but I will never know. To remedy this situation, I grab my tablet (we are not without options) and Google'd what to do next - which was basically to shut it down. Big mistake. As a result of pushing that blue button upon restart, the hard drive could not find the BIOS and would not reboot under any circumstances. Worse yet, the external hard drive was only about 20% copied to the new drive. Let's be honest, I panicked. There was easily 10 years of files on this external hard drive and conveniently no backup. My gal pal suggested I take my external hard drive to DC Computers in Hillcrest. I figured, why not? I phoned and spoke with Chris who confirmed they have been successful in the past in restoring and recovering external hard drive data. With some confidence restored, I packed it up and dropped it off. Over the course of the week, week and a half, I received several update calls from Nate, the technician assigned to my case. Nate was very friendly, personable, and explained things in a matter of fact way. Unfortunately, while my case was not a success story, I do believe the folks at DC Computers are very capable and had the circumstances been different I am confident my data would have been recovered. I highly recommend this team of folks for all thing's computer-repair related - they do it all computer sales, service, upgrades, and repairs. When my old Apple computer "gave up the ghost", I went to Apple Store hoping it could be revived. They wouldn't even work on it due to its age. So , we decided it was time for a new one. The Apple employee who gave me the bad news recommended DC Computers. It was the best rec I have ever received. Within minutes of arriving at DC I found one that was perfect for us. They added to the memory and copied everything on the old computer to the new one. A couple of weeks in, I was attacked by a hacker and they scanned my computer for malware and added a trial version of a malware program for protection. Then, when I thought I messed up changing my password, they solved the problem, no charge. (As it turned out, I had not realized that the keyboard had an on/off switch that had not been turned on. DUH!! Darrien one of the techs got me through it, professionally and non judgmentally. These guys are just tops in my book. I'd give them more stars if I could. Quite a change from dealing with Apple, where I have always felt talked down to and totally unimportant. If I ever have any further computer issues, DC will be my first and only stop. read more

I brought my iPhone 7Plus in to have the screen replaced. DC Computers replaced it relatively quickly, and at a fair price. The phone was unlocked when they gave it back to me. The next day, when I turned it on, the touchscreen didn't work, and I was unable to unlock the phone. I brought it back, and they were able to resolve the problem in less than an hour. Daniel is an excellent salesman and a pretty good dude. He assesses what you need and offers 2-3 options. Not even necessarily the most expensive. I was eyeing a shiny new macbook, or macbook air. All hovered around the $1,000 range. For $100 more, i picked up an early 2016 13 inch macbook pro. it bench marked 1500 points above either of the former options, and still maintained a slim form factor. A couple tips for the average consumer when buying a computer: -Know how much ram you need. 4GB is sufficient if you are surfing the web and online shopping. If you're doing any type of even light productivity work such as excel, word processing, light image editing, go for 8gb minimum. -Don't get sucked into the thinnest apple laptop. Know what you need. I needed USB ports + an hdmi port. The new macbook and macbook air use USB-C which requires a $60 adapter. Barf. -Know what benchmarks are. The are an overall assessment of a given machine's processing power. Ram + processor. Google search mac benchmarks. -They don't really haggle here since they have no problem selling computers. -All computers are near mint condition. They are corporate lease returns. -All computers come with full versions of microsoft office, and if requested, adobe cs5 (HELLO!) All in all a friendly experience with quality products. The store is very clean and we were helped right away. They were very knowledgeable and were able to answer all of my questions! I also really appreciate that they did not try to upsell me. I just called in asking about possible solutions for slowness issues with my 2012 MacBook Pro. I spoke with someone named Darien who said that they could do a diagnostic. I drove over and spoke with someone else apparently who just came right out the gate asking "do you have an SSD?" I said yes. He then says "well there's nothing else that we can do". After basically explaining that I'm asking for someone to do what the guy on the phone recommended, and the second guy basically just being rude and condescending the whole time, I got pissed off and used colorful language to say the least and left. He then followed me out of the store, got in my face and tried to start a fight with me. One of his coworkers even came out after him and started cursing at me and told me that I was "gonna get slapped". Oh and they weren't wearing masks. I expect the owner of the business to contact me because this is not over. Edit: after looking at the videos from the business, the owner is the prick without a mask on who "helped" me. Lmao. Thanks Daniel! Good to know that the definition of good business is trying to physically assault customers because they were so dissatisfied with your service that they storm out of your store. I took my computer into DC Computers only because a friend of mine who I knew could handle what I needed is no longer in San Diego. After this whole altercation with Daniel Rice, I connected with that friend who hooked me up with a colleague of his 5 minutes away from me in North Park. I explained it to him the same way I explained it to Daniel Rice's employee over the phone, that I've been on a mid-2012 MacBook Pro since new and I wanted to get it checked out for potential slowness issues that I suspected were related to thermals. The issue I was having was my CPU not being able to handle music production projects that it's been very stable handling historically. I told him I had saw some people online after doing some research that talked about re-applying thermal paste and even just cleaning out the fan can be the solution. The guy said, yea that's really common and said it'd be $60. I told him I would happily pay him. An hour and a half later, he tells me that my fan was filled with dust, and he applied new thermal paste to both the CPU and GPU. I pick up my machine and it's running like a brand new computer. Compare this with DC Computers owner Daniel Rice's service. Me: "Hi, I spoke with one of your employees, Darien, on the phone." Daniel Rice: "What's up?" Me: "I spoke to him about having some slowness issues checked out. I've had this mid-2012 MacBook Pro since new, and it's just gotten gradually slower. I've read some stuff about re-applying thermal paste" Daniel Rice: "Well do you have an SSD?" Me: "Yes" Daniel Rice: "Well then there's nothing we can do for you." I've spent the last few weeks since this guy tried to literally fight me, extremely pissed off, wishing very bad things would happen to this jerk. He came at me with this backwards attitude within less than a minute of us talking (and me telling him I spoke to one of his employees already?!?!?) and after getting fed up nearly a dozen times, trying to be patient with him, and then him throwing out the snide, sarcastic comment while I'm trying to write down my computer's password from muscle memory of "ya know, I'm gonna need your password, right?" I straight up told him "what's your f*ckin problem asshole?! F*ck you!" and I left. He follows me out and yells "you're not welcome here anymore!" (which is idiotic considering that I'm leaving his store, so naturally I go tell him that). Then he follows me out, gets in my face, and so does his employee. Does that seem like good service to you if you're looking for someone to repair your computer? He won't even look at it? He just tells you within 10 seconds that he can't help you? Maybe it's meaningless, but I'm also just gonna share that while Daniel was NOT wearing a mask the whole time, I was, and that mask said "Filipinx for Black Lives" on one side, and "No Justice, No Peace" on the other side. They worked quickly on both of my laptops, and even let me leave one of them there for a longer period of time while i secured some finances to pay for its repair. They were always friendly and patient while i was trying to give them details about the computers and calling them for updates. I had researched their services about 2 years ago to grab documents off of a completely broken ~2010 macbook pro that hadn't been turned on since 2012. Their prices were reasonable and when I finally got around to bringing in the laptop, they saved all of my files and the process was quick and easy. They even recycled the laptop for me. I finally got to see my old photos of people and pets that are no longer with me, memories that I thought I had lost forever. I cried when I went through them because I had everything on this laptop when it broke and most of the photos had no back up, but because of DC computers I had them back.
