An update: I had an issue with my laptop bluescreening every 10 minutes after receiving my laptop again. I wondered if it had anything to do with the repair and took it in. The person at the desk assured me that I would not be charged anything for the diagnostic after explaining my situation. A week later, I got a call stating my laptop needed to be replaced, or that a repair for the issue was $400. This was post- spending $200 for my replacement part that fixed my original issue. When I went to pick up my laptop, the invoice stated that my diagnostic, instead of the $39 was $89 because it is a gaming laptop. Not that it was free. They've worked with me and have been super friendly, but I wasn't sure how to take the charge for the diagnostic. I paid because they've worked diligently with me about my laptop but didn't appreciate being told there would be no charge if they were going to charge me anyway. Long story short, my laptop is still under Dell's warranty, and I ran an advanced diagnostic to see how much they'd need to service. The diagnosis was that nothing was damaged in the laptop (after an update) and I am using it now to write this review. I'm not too sure what's happened there, I don't know enough about laptops to be suspicious of anything. But my laptop has been in and out of the shop since mid-July, almost a month now. This is the second time I've brought what I thought was a devastating tech issue to DC Computers. This time, I drowned My MacBook Air, which then died. After a night of suspension in rice, the keyboard and trackpad were still inoperable, and were preventing me from using an external mouse. I figured the computer was done. Enter DC Computers. They told me they fix this type of problem all the time, and I barely believed them. But it's true. Within a week, My computer was working perfectly, just as it had before the water damage. My 2010 iMac died right in the middle of a work project, and I needed to fix it ASAP. Since it was so old, I ended up getting a refurbished computer for a very reasonable price. They were able to transfer all of my data and update everything, so while it's still like my old computer, it works much better and faster. I reached out via email with the specifications for a laptop I'd need for my grad school program; within about 2 hours I'd received a response from Daniel saying he had a couple of options in stock and that he'd be happy to discuss them with me on a call. On the phone he was able to go over a few options with me, and explain why some of the specific laptops I was looking into through Best Buy/Amazon wouldn't work for what I needed. He told me what things I needed to look for when searching, and even gave me a couple of recommendations. I appreciated the fact that he wasn't trying to "sell" me on anything, and just offered honest feedback for my needs. I ended up going to the store in person based off the email/phone interactions alone. When I got there Daniel was actually heading to lunch, but Mike stepped in and picked up with the A1 customer service where Daniel left off. He took the time to bring out a few options to show me as well as explain the differences between them so that I could make an informed decision. Both guys showed me laptop options from the lower end, to ones over $3k - stating that while the higher end ones were nice, that they were overkill for my needs as a student. While I don't have $3k to spend on a laptop lol, I truly appreciate them not trying to push things on me simply because they cost more. My experience with DC was amazing from start to finish - I could not recommend them any higher to someone either looking for a computer, or looking to have theirs repaired; these guys are awesome. Very happy with the outcome from DC Computers. They were friendly, knowledgeable, welcoming, and most of all, thorough / talented. I purchased a MacBook Pro from DC at a very reasonable price, doubled the flash drive memory for only $100 more, and was able to transfer all my old files onto an external hard drive that I can access anytime. I haven't seen some of those pics, nor heard some of my old jams, in like ten years! What was really cool, and probably my favorite part, is they have an office tuxedo cat. I do not recommend this place at all. I brought my PC in for what ended up being a very easy fix, and when I spoke over yelp messaging to DC computers I was told a diagnostic fee was X amount of dollars. When I walked in wearing fairly nice clothing, the price suddenly jumped up, when I said I just spoke to a _____ name of person I spoke to, he said yes that's me, but that's the price. He then proceeded to very dismissive of my concerns and acting very disrespectful towards me. If I had to take a guess he saw me pull up in a nice car, wearing nice clothes and looking very young, he saw daddy's money, note to everyone. I've completed a 6 year contract in the navy got out and am working as a civilian. I'm still young but can promise everyone the military never paid that good, and I haven't seen my father in 7 years. So in San Diego as I see it there are 3 options for Mac repair: Apple, another (unnamed) vendor, and DC Computers. Having dealt with the unnamed vendor several times I've been turned off by their "take it or leave it" customer service attitude. Apple: didn't want to send off my computer, possibly pay premium pricing. So I searched and found DC. On DC Computers: 1st: Great response and can-do attitude, great attitude toward their customers. 2nd: They have legitimate, high competence on Apple hardware and software My power supply went out on my late 2012 iMac. Mike explained the issue over the phone, then suggested I also replace the original, slow hard-drive with a solid state drive. The last part wasn't needed however it was a good suggestion as the machine is quite fast now and for all intents and purposes the machine really will be good for several years to come. I will appreciate not having to buy a new machine, and having the speed as I do photography work as well. Here's a thing after the fact; there was a software issue that popped up, not their fault, but they agreed to have me bring it in and fix it a no cost. That just really impressed me. The personnel and service has gone down over the years. I've been buying a number of refurbished Mac computers over the years only because they load MS Office and some other software for free. They used to do the file transfers for free from your old computer to the new, but now they charge extra for this. I had a problem with my SSD Drive being slow and sluggish. I was hoping they can offer any suggestions or do some remote troubleshooting and tap into my computer. But they wanted me to lug my Mac to them and leave it for 4-5 days while they attempt to figure out the problem!! That's not acceptable if this is a work computer!! I have a feeling that they wanted to upcharge me $100 for a Rush diagnostic, since they know people can't live without their computers for 4-5 days. Besides, do they have that many repairs to do or just super slow? Save your time and money folks. Google your problem, or ask questions in a Mac forum. That's what I did, and was able to troubleshoot and fix it within an hour myself. I should have done this first before calling DC Computers, as now, I'm just frustrated with them as my Mac dealer. I'll look elsewhere next time I need a replacement. And if I have another problem with my Mac, I'll take it somewhere else where it can be fixed within a day for a reasonable price. read more

Pricing for the repair was fair and I was on the fence about fixing my older computer. They gave great advice to help me decide if fixing v. buying a new laptop was the right choice. I talked to multiple employees and communication and friendliness was consistent across all Representatives. The diagnosis fee of $40 was also fair. They say a good salesman "doesn't want to sell you a car. They want to sell your grandchild a car." The thinking being that, if you take care of the customer, you establish a relationship built on trust that lasts a long time. I believe that thinking applies to DC Computers. They sold me the product I needed at an affordable price, and assured me that if anything goes wrong, they'll stand behind it and take care of me. Can't ask for more than that. I trust them. Let me preface all of this by saying I DO plan to return to DC Computers for any service and computer sales needs for the following reasons: 1) They offer flexible, no-interest financing (through a third party.) 2) When I was sold a product that had a defective Thunderbolt port, they quickly made it right by apologizing and offering to swap out the computer for a comparable model, no questions asked. When a comparable model was not available, they gave me a lesser model and credited me the difference. 3) The prices are definitely fair for the nicely refurbished machines, all of which seem to include an Apple bluetooth keyboard and mouse, as well as a license for Microsoft Office. Nice! The negatives are as follows: 1) All of my in-store interactions included long waits and helping customers out of order of arrival. They also seem to be super short staffed all the time. 2) On more than one occasion I've been put on hold and no one ever comes back to the phone. 3) Failure by the staff to comply with the public health order to wear facial coverings, and no enforcement for customers to wear masks inside. It's literally the law... (Public Health Order section 16: Each essential business and reopened business shall require all employees/on-site contractors to have possession of face coverings and wear them as described in section 9 when in the business facility.) So, when you mash those two things together, you really get an "it is what it is" kind of situation. If you're willing to deal with less-than-perfect customer service and can equip yourself with a face shield, N95, gloves, and sanitizer before going in, then you'll be good. Suggestion to the store: I really wish you guys had an email option for communication with store, at least for existing customers who have bought a computer or received service from you. All that said, I'm stoked on my iMac and plan to go back to buy a Macbook in a few months. Woot! read more
