Donut Express - Beautiful interior of red velvet cake donut!

Donut Express

Sweet little donut shop in Decatur. I stopped by for a small pick-me-up for the drive home after…read morework. Parking lot has seen better days but there's plenty of space. There are a few small cafe tables inside if you'd like to sit. The donuts are displayed nicely in a large case. They have a large variety of both cake and traditional donuts as well as kolaches. Decent bit of Spanish signage in the shop, too, which I thought was nice to have. The gentleman at the register was warm and polite. After some mental deliberation, I got a chocolate glazed and a red velvet cake donut. I was going to try both and eat the one I preferred and give the other to my husband, who likes donuts more than me lol. I thought the price was very reasonable -- two nicely made donuts for $2.15. They were packaged in a small sack and I was on my way! After sampling both, I decided I liked the red velvet better, though both were good! The chocolate glazed was just a touch drier. That said, the chocolate glaze wasn't super waxy or artificial tasting, which is a pleasant if slightly unusual find. The red velvet was super moist, cakey, and soft, with a stunningly bright red interior. Oddly it had a slight coconut flavor? I was all in cause I like coconut but I think its proximity to coconut donuts might have been the cause, lol. I'm not a donut connoisseur myself but this place offered a nice, quick snack complete with pleasant service. Worth a try!

If you like spicy, you'll love the habanero, but if not, there's a mild option too! The donuts were super soft and fresh with a wide variety to choose from! Everyone was super kind and were very helpful when we mentioned an allergy in the family. It's a sweet, small, clean mom and pop kind of location. They speak English and Spanish too!

3.5/5. I came here…read moreto grab a few donuts to take home with me a week or two ago. To be totally transparent, I honestly am not the hugest fan of donuts, so my opinion may not be the most informed. There's plenty of room to park and I like that they stay open a little later than many other places that offer donuts. It's more spacious than I thought it would be inside and there are a few tables to sit at. The trash cans looked a little full and one table had some sugar spilled on it but other than that it was clean and warm. Donuts are displayed in a case by the register. There were a LOT of choices and I remember it being mostly unlabeled so I kind of had to guess based on appearance. There was a menu on the wall but one couldn't necessarily 100% reliably match the listed items to their counterparts in the case. Not a huge deal, but would be a positive change imo to add labels next to the actual donuts. Anyway, I wound up with a chocolate cake donut, a blueberry cake donut, and a chocolate glazed regular/fried donut with peanuts on top. The woman operating the cashier was supremely pleasant and really made my visit - she was just so warm and friendly. She threw in a couple donut holes, either as a kindness or perhaps because they were nearing closing time anyway. Regardless, the were appreciated! I brought the donuts home to my husband and we ate them for dessert later. He likes fried donuts more so he got about 80% of the fried (I wanted a little bite lol), I ate the blueberry donut, and we split the chocolate cake donut and donut holes. The holes were airy and had a nice vanilla flavor. The traditional fried donut was a little dry and the glaze a little waxy, but the peanuts were a nice addition. The chocolate cake donut was heavy and the sugary exterior was crackly in a way I didn't particularly love, but it was tolerable. The blueberry cake donut was my favorite part, as it was fluffy and not overly sweet. Again, I tend to be kind of hard on donuts because they're just not my favorite treat, so definitely give them a shot and see for yourself how you feel about them. Kudos for the lovely and kind service.
