I wanted to try both the cake donuts and the yeast ones, and I'd definitely say the cake were my favorite (but both were very tasty). This is a slice of warm heaven wrapped in an electric blanket. To be fair, I went at 5:30 am so YMMV but I had an apple fritter and blueberry doughnut. The fritter was flat, not puffy like traditional ones, but when I picked it up it was just shy of hot. A HOT DOUGHNUT!! Daylight Donuts is a family run shop that specializes in donuts, and they do quite a few varieties. The prices are super affordable. They also have some more unique offerings such as apple cinnamon rolls and various types of kolach! 7 years in Gainesville, how did I never try this place until I was back in town to visit?? So glad I had time to drop by though! The apple cinnamon roll was gigantic! Nice flaky texture on the outside, it had chunks of apple and that delicious warmth from cinnamon wrapped up on the inside. The amount of glaze on the outside was also just right. Not too heavy that everything gets sticky, but not so light that you feel like the cinnamon bun was missing something. Truly fantastic! The Sausage Kolach was fantastic as well. A well known Central European bakery item, they do a fantastic job. The sausage they use is meaty and juicy, with a slight hint of pepper to give it a kick. The bun on the outside surrounding the sausage is so soft and pillowy. It really is a dangerous item, if you're not careful, you may end up eating a whole dozen! Rating: 10/10 This donut shop is small, but mighty. I suggest getting there early because the donuts do sell out fast. These donuts are also very affordable which is a plus! I tried 2 cake donuts (Cinnamon Sugar and Red Velvet), as well as the Apple Fritter. Let me just start off by saying that I am not the biggest cake donut fan because they are always so dry, but that is not the case with these donuts. When I bit into both of these donuts, it was as soft as a pillow and extremely moist. Both flavors were incredible, but the Red Velvet is a MUST TRY! Also, the cake donuts are quite small, which is g for donut lovers who like to eat more than one.. or two. The Apple Fritter was also great. I have tried a lot of Apple Fritters and know a good one when I see it. It was not oily or heavy. It was crunchy on the outside with a soft texture on the inside. This was my first time visiting Daylight Donuts. My sister and I ordered 3 Kolaches, 3 Donuts and 3 Pastries for about $13. I enjoyed the Jalepeno Sausage and Cheese Kolach and an Eclair with blueberry filling. It was so good! I'm not a big fan of sweets, but I have been craving an Eclair and I'm glad I got one from here! We took our order to-go but if you want to stay, they can seat about 15 people. You can of course have your morning coffee fix here as well as they offer a variety of coffees, cappuccinos and frapps. So I've passed by Daylight Donuts multiple times and have always wanted to try it. It's located directly across from the plaza with Publix, TutoringZone, and Pizza Hut off Main Street in a little strip mall with a small parking lot out front. They offer a multitude of different pastries, donuts, and other bakery items but I was primarily there to try out the donuts. I got a mixed dozen for 8 and some change and was surprised when they threw in an extra donut free of cost without any prompting! (not pictured because I ate it on the drive home) I would say from what I've had so far that their icing is pretty delicious though, potentially because of the time of day I went (~2:30), the bread wasn't as soft or as fresh as you would hope. What I thought was the coolest aspect is that for their filled donuts (listed as pastries on the menu) they actually have a predesigned list of about 6-8 flavors (lemon, cream cheese, chopped apple, custard, and more) that you can choose from and they fill your chosen donut on the spot (they just have unfilled donuts shells I guess you could say out in the viewing glass) in their back room. Very neat. Overall they're definitely a store that is out to please the customer and I really wish they had more business. Would definitely recommend to friends. This place is the definition of a hole in the wall and is definitely a gem of Gainesville. This donut shop is very unassuming in my opinion and I walked in with no expectations because of the minimal decorations inside. All they have is their shelf of donuts but that's all you need honestly. They had a wide selection of donuts, I saw some red velvet donuts and some braided bread. They also have some Asian desserts apparently, but I did not inquire too much about them when I was there. I asked the cashier what she would recommend us to order and she said that they are famous for their apple fritters. It was honestly the best apple fritter I have ever had. It's crispy and not too sweet and was a generous serving as well. The woman who was working there at the time was very friendly and gave us free donut holes! I'm always easily swooned by great food service. I'm definitely going to stop by there whenever I'm in the area and it's convenient to get to if you're in downtown Gainesville or on main street. Went to Daylight Donuts this past Sunday and enjoyed them a lot. This is not your typical donut place but I really liked it. If you drive to fast it could easily be passed by, so make sure when your GPA says to turn you follow the instructions. One thing to note, is that they no longer give you free donut holes that they used to give out. They said that someone complained about them and that is why why they no longer do it. I had three donuts and the price was not that bad. I really liked the apple fritter, it has a lot of good taste and was big. The long johns are great because they will fill them up for you on the spot so you can get them with creme, preserves and other things as well. They also have kolatchies which I hear taste pretty good as well. My favorite donut was the blueberry donut that we ate! It was really flavorful and tasted great!!! One thing is they have milk in the gallons and you can get a cup of milk but they just put it in a coffee cup for you. I will for sure come back here!!! read more

The only thing I recommend getting is the apple fritters. I got a single apple fritter and it was REALLY good- would definitely return again just for that. The outside was slightly crispy and the inside was soft and moist. There wasn't an overbearing taste of artificial apples, like some other apple-related desserts. The whole thing was perfect. Unfortunately, the box of dozen donuts I got were quite disappointing. I shared it with some friends and we were all pretty saddened by the taste of the donuts. I stopped by today before my work-out to get a sausage, egg, and cheese burrito after reading how good it was from Yelp. My sister and I were greeted by a very nice guy at the counter who gave us a sample of donut holes. By far the best donut holes I've had in Gainesville (or anywhere else). Beats the Krispy Kreme overly sugary donut holes, or the Dunkin Donuts donut holes plagued with a similar problem. As far as the burrito goes...The Flying Biscuit's breakfast burrito only has fresh veggies (onions) on this one. The McDonald's burrito is obviously inferior. For the price ($1.29) and the quality, Daylight Donuts is a runaway train. Also, the prices! They're amazing..I paid about $3 with tip for my burrito and a bottle of water. I am a bit of an apple fritter fanatic, these rate as highly as any I've had. Warm with a nice crunch on the outside and soft on the inside. I can't speak for the other doughnuts except the warm doughnut holes she threw in for FREE were melt in your mouth light texture, far better than any Duncan Doughnuts. Today I bought a bacon/egg/cheese croissant, half a dozen donuts, and a coffee for about $8. The kolaches (especially the jalapeño and cheddar ones) are really good, too. Some months back they used to sell out of the kolaches nearly every time I went there, but I think they've made some inventory adjustments because recently they always have them, even within an hour of closing time.
