I went mid-morning on a Saturday and it was a little busy, but we were still able to get seated pretty quickly. The place is a full-service restaurant, but they also have a counter where you can order muffins and other baked goods to go. Honestly, the muffins are the main reason I come here. We ordered the biscuits and gravy, which were really tasty, but the highlight was definitely the muffin. Our server suggested ordering one and having it grilled, which I had never tried before and it was so good. They slice it in half and cook it on the griddle so the outside gets caramelized and slightly crispy while the inside stays soft. It completely elevates the muffin and makes it feel more like a dessert than breakfast. A disappointing breakfast. I ordered the grit bowl and was served a bowl devoid of any seasoning. The grits were watery and the tomato, onion and peppers topping them were also watery. I added salt, pepper, butter and hot sauce, but nothing improved the flavor and I opted out after a few forkfuls. Consistently great diner food, and muffins that will make you break any diet. We have never had a bad meal here. Small, unassuming diner tucked in the back corner of the Bealls parking lot across from Newberry Square. They stay busy but even the few times they've run a wait it moves quick. Servers are friendly and they get to know their regulars. Everything we've ordered there has been delicious. We have been hearing great things about this place for years so we decided to stop in but the wait was a bit long so we ordered muffins to go and coffee. Stop by and try the delicious array of muffins if your tight on time it's definitely worth it. We tried the following flavors: M&M, Pistachio, Birthday, and Bavarian cream. This is one of the best breakfast spots in Gainesville! The food is consistently great and the variety of the menu is awesome! If you do come you must get a muffin as they are fantastic. Also, if dining in ask for it to be grilled as the flavor of your muffin will be enhanced! I had the breakfast burrito and as always was excellent. Filled with your choice of meat, potatoes as well as onion and other veggies and cheese! Also had a side of tomatoes which were nice & ripe and flavorful. The food is nice here. Classic diner style. Muffins are massive and delicious. The service is not great. We had a table of 5. They brought one of our sandwiches to the wrong table and when it was re-made and brought it had tomato when specifically requested not to have. No requests for refills or to go drinks. Usually, Old Mill is a solid go-to, but today? Not so much. Ordered a breakfast sandwich, cinnamon roll, and an iced coffee to go. First hiccup? The iced coffee came in a hot coffee cup--paper, no proper lid for a straw. Cue the apology from the server, but come on, folks, condensation is a thing! Get the proper cups for iced coffee. Then came the waiting. After watching other customers get served, I finally checked on my order. "Let me check..." said my server, who had forgotten about me, probably because I wasn't at a table. Turns out my sandwich had been chilling (or rather, warming) in the food warmer all this time. He handed it to me and walked off. Cool, cool... but, uh, do I pay? I asked the air. Thankfully, another server swooped in to ring me up--but wait! No cinnamon roll. Then, some confused bag rummaging while my original server stood there like he'd just rolled out of bed. Service today? Not it. No apology, no "we'll do better," just vibes. Got home to find my sandwich was flirting with being burnt. Not ideal. Known for their baked goods which the muffins are incredible . My favorites are Bavarian and lemon poppyseed. As far as actual breakfast it is greasy to me. Personally not a fan. Ordered a croissant and it was drenched in grease , soggy and looked honestly like someone ran over it cause it was flat as can be. Only good thing was the crispy bacon. I normally like light breakfasts any way so I wouldn't sit and eat an actual meal from them but will be coming back for the baked goods. read more

Every time I go, I get to enjoy amazing muffins, freshly baked breads, crispy and well seasoned fries or sweet potato fries, juicy, fresh meat, crisp, flavorful pickles, quality, melty cheese, and more- all served with a smile. This review is only on the muffins, came in, ordered 5 muffins, and brought them home to eat. The staff was kind and friendly, very helpful. The muffins were on the dry side and lacked flavor. Dutch chocolate muffins were the most dry. The pistachio muffin tasted simply like vanilla, not any different from the birthday cake muffin. I walked in and wasn't sure if waiters said something because I'm Deaf and told them I'm looking around at the muffins. Bakery Mill is your typical hidden gem. It is very mom and pop and for the most part only locals frequent this restaurant. I cannot express how amazing the baked goods are at Bakery Mill. Their muffins are hearty and fluffy; the pastries are sweet, but not to the point where it is overpowering. It is really unfair how delicious this bakery is. They are also open for lunch and it is just as wonderful. The menu is your typical American deli. What makes them stand out is the quality of the deli meats and the larger-than-usual portions. I've been here on multiple occasions for breakfast and lunch and I believe I've seen the deli owner every single time. He is usually greeting and checking up on customers and just overall being a nice human. One word to the wise, if you are wanting to have lunch here go when you have some time on your hands because they can get busy. So a quick lunch may not be possible. read more

The pancake was tough and could barely cut it. The chicken tenders were barely battered just looked like they were thrown straight in with almost no batter. Sausage was undercooked.
