Ah....lovely, leafy Oak Park. Not that many Oak trees here actually, but plenty of other kinds. In exchange for their shade and lovely foliage, they do require some care and maintenance. Parkway trees are maintained by the village, everything else on the property is our responsibility. Davis Tree Care has come out to trim, treat, and tend to any troublesome trees on our territory. This is the second time we have used Davis Tree Care to trim up a large maple we have in our back yard. They are very accommodating, considerate of our neighbors and clean up every stick that falls from their work. The maple we have in our back yard is very large and intrudes in both my neighbors yards, so finding the right company to be this considerate is important to me. We had to have a couple limbs cut off a large tree in our back yard w/ a 4' fence, a 5' fence and a garage around it, so we emailed Dan, he came out quoted the job and was able to make an appointment w/ us. He was very flexible on the appointment date, was on time for the job, cleaned up our yard and the neighbor yard, company very pleasant to work w/. I'm rating them one cuz I can't give zero stars as far as I know. I made three calls to this place, one in Nov, one in January and one in Feb and was always promised an estimate. Needless to say,none ever arrived. I get that one was around the holidays but the weather was fine. Pruning is supposed to be done in spring so I waited. I gave up and actually found an awesome professional company to provide multiple services in two locations for about two grand each. Davis has zero business being listed as a service. Save yourself considerable time and anger by ignoring their name wherever you see it! I tried to provide business to a local company but oh well. Hope you do the same! read more

My experience with Davis Tree Care was great. Everyone I dealt with was professional and courteous, and I timely received am estimate for the work to be performed and the work was completed quickly. They were actually able to complete my work sooner than expected because they were working at my neighbors house. The estimator sent to my home, Jeff, was also working next door, and he remembered that I wanted work done. He stopped by and asked if he could do the work that day, and even worked with us on pricing. If you have any tree care needs, this is the place to call! read more

Had the canopy raised on a large tree in the front yard and a medium sized tree in the backyard. Davis did an awesome job trimming up the branches. The trees look great! The crew was efficient and cleaned up the work site like they weren't even there. Had a small issue which the owner was quick to rectify. read more

Trying to understand the receptionist is the hardest thing I've ever had to do. She definitely is not the brightest and the amount of times she uses I don't know is more than my 11 year old. They've done good work on pruning trees for us in the past, but never again. Davis guy just showed up AT MY HOME ranting about a bill that had been paid 8 months ago, asking me to write him a check right now "for $500 so we can put this to bed." The whole time he was standing there with his pants unzipped, smelling odd, and ignoring my request that he cover himself. Not sure what story is...but I'd steer clear. Note: This is second time that we've written checks that the Davis office has "lost", which left us having to stop payment on the first check, cut another, and deal with phone calls and letters. That's a big, fat 'F' on customer service in my book. read more

Davis cut down a tree that was growing underneath our neighbors garage and our fence and they also pruned our backyard tree. Kevin came and talked with my husband for a long time and gave an estimate that was not over the top as some other tree services we called. The service from Kevin and his staff were great. Work done July 11, 2018 I am a 78 year old female and was terribly distressed by the awful, sloppy, poor job that Davis Tree Care did for me. They came early in the morning and were done in about 2 hours. A few days later I paid the bill of $1,875.00 for the removal of the huge American elm limb that had fallen, and in the fall had also damaged my large pear tree. When I made a careful inspection of my back yard, I discovered that the cleanup of the yard was sloppy, small branches all over. Then I noticed that each tree still had a dead branch dangling from it. I was concerned that it would fall on me and called to have them come back to remove these two branches. I called at least 4 or 5 times and talked to the office girl who said she would pass on my complaint. I sent emails to the man who had given me the estimate. Nothing happened. No results from either person. No one called. No one came. This was terribly stressful. On July 27, my 17 year old grandson came and saw how stressed out I was. He hauled out an old, rickety ladder from my basement, took a shovel, climbed up and started to whack at the branches. My lawyer neighbor and I watched with great trepidation. My grandson kept whacking until both branches fell. The lawyer said no one should be treated this way. He advised me to write to Yelp, the Illinois Consumer Council and the Better Business Bureau. Hired Davis to prune several of my neighbors trees overhanging my property. The crew of four arrived at 7:30 A.M. and Bob Davis was with them on site to supervise. They did an excellent job, using a lift truck to prune the trees overhanging my house, and two guys climbing the huge maple in back to cut off branches overhanging my yard. Extensive work took about two hours. After trimming, they meticulously cleaned up. I look for two things in a service provider: excellent service, and a reasonable price. Davis scores high on both. There are always several sides to a situation, but the following is wholly based on documented results which had completely different outcomes elsewhere by different companies. By no way are these isolated incidences, as many certified Arborist backed by years of experience not maliciously, but unintentially misinformed the public when supplying outdated facts about EAB. To be clear, all other methods practiced by SD are not in question here, and stand out as exemplary examples for the humble trade. I invite an official response to further clarify this issue...especially because truly hated writing something possibly negative about an entity proudly credited with sparking my interest for everything trees early in life. In 2009 when Emerald Ash borer hit Chicagoland's storied Western suburbs of Oak Park & River Forest, as an Arborist, local tree keeper and Community tree historian, I authored and supplied over 3000 local Ash owners with a flier containing every proven available option regarding their families endangered tree. It was then up to these owners to contact a tree care company having it either cut down before dying and becoming dangerous, preventively self apply product themselves or having professionally protected until danger from EAB infestation populations inevitably passed locally, like already has happened in part of Mi. where 1st EAB arrived. Since Davis, now Sterling Davis rightfully earned local reputation for outstanding tree care over past 40 yrs. working on communities most historic old growth & Prairie style era planted examples, many property owners confidently hired said Co. to protect their Ash with either Soil or trunk injections. Several were informed early on, even though tree was still healthy and safe, it would be waist of time and money treating anything over 100 yrs. old since only had short lifespan(Reality Green & Blue has 300, & White 600 proven yr. lifespans or 285 & 400 respectively within Urban settings). When advised SD estimate of treatment cost would be very expensive, needed 4 life of tree, and inevitably succumb to EAB anyways in time, owners who desired to save tree by any means contracted for injections regardless. Then when 2 yr. treatment cycle was up and needed to be redone, according to customers "Recollections" S.Davis either did not emphasize on first visit that retreatment would be needed again, or never called back to remind in spring. A fact which supersedes above statements is derived from actual billing which (Normally) clearly states an insecticides efficacy (Time) limit. But individual customers I spoke with could not produce their paperwork. This quite probably caused the unnecessary losses of our communities most precious 120-160 old examples either planted by Frank Lloyd Wright, Fredric law Olmsted & Jens Jensen, or wild old growth natives. Since SD was also responsible for educating decision making representatives of public parks landscaped by Jensen in OP & RF a century ago, these districts also needlessly lost every one of their historic 100+ old Ash without even attempting to save one. In the end customers had to immediately pay out $3000-$6000 in one lump sum, rather then temporarily protect tree for $300-$550 every two years until danger from EAB subsided. One embarrassing situation after encouraging a local Church to have their "Manna Ash" treated resulted in trees continued decline, though "properly" applied product utilized had been well documented achieving god sent like successes. read more

Davis Tree Care gets great reviews. I now see why. We had a 40 foot high spruce tree that was suddenly coming up at the roots and leaning heavily on another tree. They quickly came out, provided an assessment and a very affordable quote. They prioritized our situation, noting that a storm was coming this week, and took the tree down and did so with experience and skill. They will now be our go-to tree service. read more

Do be careful to call the right company (there is another Davis tree (I'm told a rogue family member) with which people sometimes have unfortunate experiences).. This year to remove an Ash tree that was dead on the shared property line. We had a reasonable estimate the same day. Scheduled removal within one week. They gave me a reasonable quote last year for tree removal. I dragged my feet in spending the money but it had to be done. I'm a first time home owner and wasn't sure about the price. My neighbor and my mom reassured me their price was awesome for my size tree so I hired them. They were quick, clean and efficient. Girl on the phone was very pleasant to deal with too!
