My friend insisted this place was good so I drove ages to get here today, hoping to buy $300-$400 in garden center supplies, but the gate is locked and no one is answering the phones. I don't know where to start, this place is that great! I'll begin with Calvin! The guy is knowledgeable, welcoming and eager to help! We didn't have a clue exactly how we wanted to orchestrate our front yard but he asked all the right questions and my wife got the most beautiful flowers and bushes! Our landscaping looks great!!! Did I mention that there is one year warranty on the limelight hydrangeas?!!! This is only scratching the surface at how special Calvin made my toddler feel! He showed her the most beautiful flowers for her to choose for her kiddie garden and she was so excited to show them to me. Thanks again Calvin! We really love the landscape design Scott McAdam created for our garden. The plant selection is beautiful, has good variety and color, and is well thought out taking into consideration our local deer problem. Last night deer walked through our garden, they left foot-prints, looking for a late-night snack and they came up empty - confirming that they installed deer resistant plants - many thanks. The plants are taking well as the honeysuckle is blooming and the red spin-top buds are opening. We can only imagine how much more beautiful the garden will look in a couple of years as the plants mature. We have already received compliments from our neighbors on the new landscaping. The crew was very friendly and hard working. They communicated well; we had many questions as the installation progressed. They answered them all with patience and clarity. We especially appreciated that they positioned the plants prior to their being installed. That detail gave us a chance to confirm that they were the right plants in the right location. They did a great job on the pavers and the pavers were put in very flat. They cleaned up well. Thank you McAdam Landscaping for a job well done. read more

A few words of advise. 1. Be very specific when talking about the yard design. If you don't tell these guys that you want landscaping fabric under the very expensive landscaping to help prevent weeds, you won't get it. But you'll get the weeds. 2. Always remember that GREEN is a color. Otherwise, when you say your main priority for the front yard is lots of color, you will get lots of green ornamental grass. And when the designer comes out to review, she'll agree it lacks color (other than green) and suggest that you spend even more money to add some colorful carpet roses. Yes, carpet roses, the exact plants that you just paid them to remove as part of your landscaping renovation. 3. Use another landscape company. read more

Was looking for a replacement bush for four that died.I called many Garden places. No one bothered really to call back except for Calvin, I told him my situation and I needed about four bushes and he told me the bushes were like 20 years old and he was right he said to bring a piece And a picture.in and I did and he matched it up for me the bushes came in a week later I had four new bushes for the front of my house he was so knowledgeable another worker that was really nice, her name was Annette she was so helpful And sweet ,I was looking for a plant that I saw on the Internet and I called and spoke to a girl name Chrissy She gave me a lot of info.on the phone and I wanted to go in there and I especially wanted to meet her she knew her plants.I've been an avid gardener for about 20 years and I've never been to a garden center where people took the time to walk you around and explain The exact location plants should be planted. and I thought I knew a lot about plants, always more to learn. I took pictures of places where I wanted to put plants I showed Chrissy the pictures and she suggested plants that would accent the other plans I was so thankful that I met her, I would never go to another garden place again. it's worth the drive, I live in the city but it's worth the drive to go there of course my garden is finished for the season( can always use more) but I did buy a lot of plants to fill in places that I needed,and I am just so impressed with everyone that works there. but the quality of their plants is worth the trip all the plants are well taken care of any plant you buy you could take home they look like they've been growing all summer Fran I'm so glad that I found McAdams can't wait till next year read more

I had ordered stuff from them a few times, a small selection but very helpful staff can be found if you go there. They earned the two stars and a loss of my business due to the second to last interchange I had with them. Back in September I had them come out to core my soil. They said they'd be there that week... a few weeks later I gave up on them and started to look for someone else. I came home and my yard had those plugs everywhere... mission accomplished... except they cored my gas cap. A few months later (6 to be exact) I received a past due notice for the core they did. Oddly enough, this was my first bill... I had prepaid for the service on my credit card. After doing research, they seemed to have lost my credit card slip and finally got around to billing me. Since I got a bill, I felt it was reasonable to have them fix my gas cap. After straightening out the bill issue, I asked them to repair the gas cap. I was told "someone would be there in an hour." They are basically a mile away so this was believable. Nothing happened, I wait a week and call again... same story, call again... same story... on my fifth call I escalated to Rob McAdam (owner) who never returned my call. I later called the gas company who will be out shortly to fix it. It is a shame that they don't understand that customer service can make or break a relationship with a customer. Maybe they won't miss my couple hundred a year... who knows. read more

As far as garden center goes, this one may be limited, but is very sweet. From what I can tell, McAdam focuses mainly on landscaping and has opened a small garden center to the public. What they do have is a selection of some really great plants and a handful of unique garden art pieces. I've only been here once, but something about its charming setup makes me want to go back. How clever, luring suckers like me back by creating a quaint atmosphere when there are tons of garden centers around. I like the charm, though, and am happy to go back and pick things out in a dreamy fashion (they almost suggest visual ideas that you can create in your yard by the way they arrange their plant stock) rather than scour through picked-over rows of misplaced items in a garden section of a major mogul. I appreciate the visual help. :) They also run sales on garden decor, so it's worth taking a stroll through. read more

I don't have the time or desire to bore you with the details of with the McAdams soap opera. I will just say they deserve no more than a one rating. They have had two years to make a project right. I recently moved on to another company. If you deal with them be prepared for calling them many times to make contact and when you do they have great stall tactics. read more

I called them last week to get a quote to do my weekly landscaping. I called in 3x to see when they would be out. Meanwhile, my grass is getting higher and I wanted them to get to work starting this week. They have yet to return my calls and no one has come by to even do an estimate. They literally work on a house two doors down from me weekly so I don't know why they couldn't do it. They must not want my business. I'll take it elsewhere. read more

When I went out there to wake his ass up to give us an estimate, he had the audacity to say we can't afford them. As if they know what we can or can't afford. Called a few times and then they finally called back. We made an appointment and they didn't show up. I called up asking to what happened to them and they said they apologize and can reschedule. We rescheduled for Saturday and then again they didn't show up. The appointment was on a Saturday from 1-3pm. They called at 2:45 to tell me that they can't make it and they will call back on Monday to reschedule. No more phone calls. read more

I've been a customer for years but no longer! Slipping through the cracks is the name of the game here. We've used McAdam for our regular spring clean-ups and more involved landscaping projects. For two years in row now I've had to pester them to complete the spring clean-up (they always neglect to do the aeration). I let it go last year but this year was too much. I called 3 times and always got reassurances that they'd be by. . . and then nothing. On the 4th call, I detailed the issue and followed-up w/ a personal letter to Rob McAdam explaining my disappointment and indicating that we would likely no longer be customers. Still no response!! It's clear that they don't care about my business. Bottom line - they don't care! read more

I had two business experiences with McAdam. First, i bought grass seed and, although I carefully planted it and tended it, hardly any of the seed sprouted. A neighbor of mine also bought seed from McAdam and her experience was the same. Dud seed. I ended up using Contractor-Grade Scotts, and it is doing beautifully. The other experience was that I bought two trees from McAdam and paid to have them professionally planted. The trees were fine. The planting service, however, was a complete travesty. The laborers tried to leave the wire baskets around the trunks; installed the trees before the yard had the utility lines marked (planting one tree right over a gas line); tried to leave the grounds messy, etc. I had to lend them tools and supervise continuously. Letters and calls to McAdam were unsatisfactory. I recommend people seek other landscaping service providers. read more

Major kudos to the McAdams team. We've had a brutal winter and have been so impressed with the snow removal services we've received at our small town home association in Forest Park. We have always been happy with the summer work and the planning assistance offered by Scott, but this year's winter -so far-has tested everyone's resources. This was my first experience with McAdam Landscaping and it will be my last! I had water collecting on a low point of my driveway and do to some really bad storms what once was a puddle turned into a pond. This pond made its way to our house and now I had seepage in my basement. Scott McAdam came out and suggested a French Drain, pull up some of our driveway, dig down three feet, fill it with stone and cover with gravel and porous pavers. The water had no where to go sitting on top of the concrete but now it had a place to go. I was given two bids the 2nd one a couple thousand more than the first but with almost a tank type option to hold ever more water. They came out to do the work never gave me a choice on the brick just showed up with it. I was a little disappointed at the amount of money I were spending and they could not offer me a choice. When I asked I was told they will bring them out, I only saw the pavers when they were installing them. The first major rain my driveway flooded. The system did not work at all. I called Scott the next day and no return phone call. Called him a 2nd time and he came out. Scott felt the system had worked. I had pictures and video - it clearly did not work. He felt that since the water did not reach the house it was a success. It was within inches of the house and do the short but intense rain that is why I did not have seepage in the basement. The part that was really disappointing was he made no offer to correct, improve, or change a system that did not work. He got his money and that is the last I will see of him. If you are looking for landscaping service that is overpriced and underperforms - this is for you! read more

Bought rhododendrons less than a year ago and they are dead. I bought the soil and everything they recommended. Went back and showed pictures of how the alleged bushes that would keep their color all year had died, no honor system. They blamed it on a disease. Well I changed the soil to the soil they told me to buy. Go figure. Besides that Home Depot has the exact same plants for half the price of the ones I bought from them at their supposed end of season sale. Don't waste your money. Home Depot and Walmart at least have a 1 year guarantee on their plants. read more

I have seen McAdam trucks around town doing commercial work and expected good service. I was willing to pay their premium prices for quality and responsiveness. I was very disappointed. I wanted them to come to prepare my garden beds in the spring and to mulch the beds. A week after I contacted them they gave me a bid. It was higher than others but I thought "you get what you pay for" and signed their contract. Took a month and three visits for them to start the bed preparation. Weeks later I checked into when they would mulch the beds. Oops, it slipped through the cracks they acknowledged. Did I still want the work done? I confirmed that I did but it has been three weeks with no contact and no mulch. Not even an apology. My gardens are now full of weeds. My hostas were "weeded" so I replaced them. Quality is average, service sucks. read more

I've used the McAdams for landscaping for many years. They have created a beautiful exterior with large evergreens and nice planters in from of my business. When my grandfather, who started our family business passed nearly two decades ago, the McAdams planted a tulip magnolia that has thrived and announces Spring at our office each year. Scott McAdam worked with us to help give our business the elegant presentation we wanted. His staff has done a great job of maintaining this look for us for several years now. The price for their work is reasonable, and we've been pleased with their work. They also do snow removal for our parking lot, and help make sure our walkways are clear. They've proved to be dependable, honest, and capable guys. They're team planted and has maintained a formal English garden for my mother with boxwood, pear trees, and new, beautiful flowers each spring. They've run a good business and given us great service over the years. I'd highly recommend them for your professional or personal landscaping needs. read more

I, like others, thought that paying more means you get better service. No way. It tooks weeks to get on their calendar. When they finally came to do the work I was disappointed to find out that they did a sloppy job. Who throws grass seeds on a lawn without mesh? McAdam Landscaping. Even after I told them the birds would eat them, they still did it and, yep, the birds ate everything. I have mud where grass should be. Took 3 phone calls and 3 emails to get someone to come back out. I don't recommend them at all. I fired them and re-hired a smaller landscaper. I got more attention and way better service. read more
