I used RLG last year to put in artificial turf did good job no issues with that project. I called back this year and asked for quote to do some work on rest of my lawn that is not covered by the turf. This is where the bad review comes in. He came over looked at what needed to be done, then said have quote next day. Took over week of asking for quote, we get the quote, set up day and time. We did this early few weeks out and figured all set. Call few days before and said cause of weather move from Monday to Wednesday. Made sense, he said on Tuesday he would give time on arrival for Wednesday. This ended all his communication with us, texted Tuesday, asking for ETA, nothing. Wednesday comes, nothing, right now it is Friday at 6:00 PM and nothing. I would say if he shows up probably do a good job, if you are reading this and thinking of contacting, I would move on to the next company. nothing irritates me more than someone who lies and does not communicate with the customer. If you want to hire someone who ignores you and lies about doing the work go for it, but not me I deal with enough people like this I am not going to pay them also. I made the mistake of paying them in full, BEFORE the inspector checked the work. They messed up the pitch, and removed the sod I already paid for to "fix the pitch", but after they removed the sod...they never came back and stopped answering my calls. Quite the businessman...got paid and he kept the sod to reuse elsewhere. read more

We live in the city and had a "small job" to build a retaining wall for our flower beds, add pavers to "extend" our patio as well as mulch and sod. Rick was super patient with me as we moved through the process and I changed my mind a zillion times, even during the installation process. They will have to come back this fall to finish the job as I didn't want to loose my "spring" flowers due to a design change. I waited about a year to post this review to see how things bloomed and held up after the winter and spring. RLG revamped our front landscaping and front walkway last fall and they did an amazing job. Rick was extremely responsive, quick to come by and give a quote, worked well with us, and had his guys get the job done in a timely fashion but with beautiful attention to detail. The work was done in October and they did a wonderful job -- everything held up great and my hydrangeas are now blooming beautifully. We had several landscaping businesses come to look at our yard. RLG landed in the middle price-range among the other estimates. We chose to go with RLG because Rick seemed the most knowledgeable and proactively provided solutions/alternatives when our ideas wouldn't work. My husband and I are so glad we chose them! We had a mess of a yard. The soil only produced weeds, was shaped as a mound, and was so hard and full of rocks that it was dangerous for us to try and cut anything (I regret forgetting to take a true "before" photo, but will post a mid-progress photo for context). RLG's team came out and worked incredibly hard to remove a sad tree and give us a luscious and level green lawn. They also cleared an area of our yard that was just piles of rock and dirt. We are so happy with the results and excited to finally spend time in our backyard. The team was so hardworking and respectful while they were here. Rick catered to our needs and remained patient with me despite me changing our project date and ideas several times. Finally pulled the trigger on redoing the front yard -- after a poor experience with the guy who did the back yard, fear factor was high. Found RLG on Yelp and took a chance. Judged his quote to be reasonable, based on cost of previous back yard work. Ended up a super satisfied customer. : ) Here's everything that's great about Rick / RLG. 1 -- He came in and got the job done in just over two days (granted the weather was very much on our side). He was on time or early each day. Most important: Soooo happy with the result. 2 -- Thought his rates were reasonable and perceived him as an honest guy (e.g., repairing instead of replacing the backyard grass) 3 -- He was open to my ideas, while using his own experience and knowledge to give sound advice. He spent a fair amount of time educating me on what works/doesn't, how to maintain landscaping (including one piece previous guy never bothered to tell me), qualities of various plant options, etc. 5 -- He and his crew are just nice people. 5 -- I know if I called him today to ask a follow-up or express a concern, he would respond when he could (it's still high season). There were small hiccups, like breaks in communication and one or two things I want to follow up on when I hire him in the spring -- but part of that I expect when landscapers are cramming in everything they can before winter. We had two patches of grass between our back patio and our sidewalk with a downspout coming from the house about 4 feet onto one of the grass patches. These patches broke up our patio with useless space and the downspout was a tripping hazard. We wanted our downspout buried and redirected out to the main lawn, and pavers installed where the grass was to maximize our back patio. We called RLG Landscaping and set up an appointment for a quote. Rick came out, gave us a price and an approximate start date. We agreed to the price and within 3 weeks, we had what we asked for. He was easily contacted either by email or text the entire time. He emailed the week before with an exact date and showed up when he said they would. They finished the work quickly and beautifully. If you had asked me to write a review last year, I would have given Rick 5 stars but his behavior this year has completely eliminated any possibility of him ever being hired to do any kind of work at my house. Over the past two years, I've had Rick do probably $8k - $10k worth of work in my back yard. He built a brick patio, planted a row of tall Arborvitae trees, and then bricked a wall around the tree bed. Unfortunately, one of the trees died over the winter so I contacted him to replace the tree and he never got back to me. Seeing that we're in the middle of a pandemic, I thought something might be wrong so I gave it time and then sent him another message. This time, he wrote back saying that he'd get me a price for the replacement tree and get back to me. Guess what - he never got back to me. So, I ended up finding my own tree and I then messaged him again to see if he'd be able to remove the dead tree, pick up the new tree, and then plant it. He agreed to take the job so I bought the tree from the nursery and they held it for me. Here's where the real fun starts. He said he would come on a Saturday to do the tree removal and would then come back during the week to do the planting. He cancelled on me for Saturday and pushed the job to Thursday. It rained on Thursday so, understandably, he pushed the job to Friday. Friday morning at 5:45am, it wasn't raining, he messaged me saying that he was pushing the job to Saturday because the ground would be too wet. At this point, I was getting irritated but, ok - he was rescheduling instead of cancelling. When I woke up at about 7:30 on Saturday, I was expecting to see a message from Rick. Nothing. I messaged him at 8:30 to see when he was coming. No reply. I called and left a voicemail at about 8:45. No reply. At 9:30am, I got a call from the nursery asking when I was going to pick up the tree. They needed it out of there. So, I called him again at 9:45 and left a message. I followed up with another FB messenger message. No reply. At 11am, I sent him another follow up message and called AGAIN to leave a voicemail stating that I really needed him to call me back because we needed him to get the tree and essentially do the job that he said he would do. No reply. I ended up going to the nursery to arrange for them to plant the tree 3 weeks from now because I had absolutely no faith that this guy would get back to me. Hiring the nursery to do the planting was also the only way that I could have them hang on to the tree for me since I have no way to get it home. I still need to figure out how to remove the dead tree. I can understand that things come up but that can all be handled with a phone call. Rick made no calls, no apologies, nothing. To anyone who is considering hiring Rick, take a look at some of the more recent reviews. It seems like there's a pattern developing - he doesn't follow through on his word. read more

Recently had a big landscaping project that I couldn't quite do myself. Called up rick to get the job done and I got nothing but great customer service and a perfect finishing job. Overall the job was done in a timely manner and was effective, I had a problem filling a sinkhole in my yard and rick was able to fix the problem and also redo my patio with a nice artificial turf finish. I mainly was struggling with the sink hole and the fact that my dog tore up my yard with mulch & dirt. Everything was done within a very reasonable price compared to competitors. Hired RLG Landscaping to trim boxwood shrubs. It was raining hard the day they showed up to trim the boxwood shrubs. Despite the rain the decided to trim the boxwood shrubs and the entire front yard was ripped up due to walk back and forth and throw debris all over the soaked lawn. I spoke with the owner, Rick Garcia, who assured me that they would repair the yard after the weather improved and the lawn dried out. I waited a week but didn't hear anything from Rick. I called multiple times asking Rick when they were coming out to fix the yard but I never heard back from him. Eventually I had to fix the yard myself.
