My bike was there for three months, and the only update I received was that the carburetor needed a rebuild -- which was the original reason I brought it in. Brought my R6 in for spark plug and air filter change. The shop was extremely busy, but they nonetheless did the work quickly, in order to accommodate me (I don't own a car, so moto is only transportation). Labor cost was more than fair, and they didn't try to add on unnecessary services (in fact, because my coolant fluid was clean, they didn't flush it even though I had said I'd be willing to have it done). They also gave me a tank and triple tree bolt, for free. Highly recommend DMS. It's awesome to have a local shop with competent, good guys. read more

Yes, absolutely it was well worth the wait. The carbs had to be rebuilt and they are the only shop that was willing to take this on. Now every time I ride it, I will remember the first ride when I bought it in 2001. I am very happy with their work and the way my bike now runs is a testament to finding great people to work on the older motorcycles. I'm giving them a 110 percent rating on their work. if you, like me needs a quality shop, Davis motor sports is the place. They work on new bikes as well as older bikes. I am totally impressed with the shop. I made a random telephone call to them inquiring about the possibility of them having a motor scooter. While they carry almost all motorcycles, the owner stayed in contact with me for a couple of months and we found a match. He was not pushy in fact I was always the one to call him. He always took my calls and was very patient with my questions. The day I picked the scooter up, He went over the entire scooter with me. This was actually not a scooter from his shop nor was it a consigned item. I really appreciate his time and His honesty. I use the scooter for DoorDash. He helped me get out of a car. Great customer service I needed parts for my KX450F last minute to get me riding for my yearly trip they helped me out order the parts and got me on the road and while I was there they helped me with my other projects as well. I was so impressed I brought my 2017 road glide in for a complete motor upgrade. They did a great job and they researched everything to give me the best advice and service possible. I read all the reviews and was looking forward to doing business with DM but sad to say our experience was not great like the reviews. We were initially quoted $800 to fix an oil leak with the understanding that parts were on back order due to Covid, no problem. About a month later we were contacted that the motor had to be dropped and it would be an additional $800-$1000 for repair, which I asked why they didn't know this before, seeing how they repair bikes. Nonetheless, we approved the additional cost with an understanding that it would be about $1800-$2000 when all was said and done. Another month goes by and we contact them to find out the status of the bike and we're told they needed to order additional parts, rings, since the other ones broke - fast forward to today when we got the call that the bike is ready and the amount due is $2600 - imagine our surprise. When we arrive to get the bike I ask Brian how we went from $1800-$2000 to $2600 and he said that quote did not include parts, nor did the original $800 quote. I'm not sure how they run their business but shouldn't a quote include labor and parts? In the end Brian considered this a misunderstanding and kind of laughed as he walked away toward the counter. I wasn't sure what was funny about this and he proceeded to tell me that the original $800 quote was $500 labor and $300 parts, but wait...didn't he just tell me that the original $800 didn't include parts? At this point my husband went to the counter to pay the bill while Brian stated he felt attacked and this is what he gets for doing us a favor since they don't work on older bikes. I'm not sure what favor he did seeing how he was paid $2600. I personally won't be doing business with DM, I won't refer anyone I know to them, I'll leave a review wherever I can and I'll be contacting the BBB. If you choose to do business with them get the quote in writing, confirm it's for labor and parts and I hope your experience is better than ours. read more

Solid place. I am someone who is always cautious when it comes to mechanics, because I have heard and experienced horror stories, but I would definitely recommend Davis Motorsports, because of Brian. I trust Brian and he is more than fair with price and will work with you if you're in a pickle. He's tightened chains for about $40 and this one time my shifter shaft came off while I was riding, because the bolt came out. They were on their way for lunch when I was heading in, but he stopped what he was doing to grab a bolt from one of his own bikes and put it in for about $40 total for parts and labor. He's someone who is definitely passionate about riding and passionate about getting you back on the road safely. Great person. He truly cares about you and the experience you get. And don't be afraid to ask questions. I know sometimes mechanics are a little bit rough around the edges and it can be intimidating, but never be afraid to question something or get answers. I will be honest and say that Brian welcomes questions the most and helps you become more knowledgeable in your bike. It can be a bit scary to get clarity, but Brian informs you very well and is super nice. I have read a couple other comments on here from Brandon R. and other people as well. And I definitely understand the caution. But you have to think about it from the business's and owner's point of view. They are trying to make a living just like anybody else and though it might have been bad business they are doing the best that they can and no one is perfect and people make mistakes. I had an experience where I was given one price, but another employee said the fee was $25 more than what I expected, but that may or may not be a communication error. Sometimes the owner is able to flex things, because he is the owner, and he has the final say. The staff go by a standard. So I recommend when these things happen, just wait, be patient and perhaps even take your bike back until you can talk to the right person face-to-face. Have some form of writing or written agreement. People make mistakes, but I don't think it's fair to review a business in it's entirety based off on one experience. Things happen. That's why even though some small things have happened, I still would highly recommend this place, because of Brian. I hope this helps. read more

Not too long ago, I brought my Yamaha R6 in for service at the only motorcycle shop in the city where my college is located. This shop hands down deserves a full 5 star rating. The topnotch owner/mechanic provided me with an honest opinion, fair prices, and excellent service. When I spoke to the owner/mechanic about certain concerns with my motorcycle, he gave me straightforward answers. He saved me hundreds of dollars in service costs that he could have easily profited from. He advised me to save money instead of changing my rotors, chain and sprocket, and other unnecessary parts since they were all still in decent condition. These jobs would have been relatively easy for a shop like this. The only service I ended up paying for was a full oil change and a 100-pt. inspection (that I needed since I was planning to sell my motorcycle soon). The bill came out to about $100 and included a few minor tune-ups. Upon picking my my motorcycle, the owner/mechanic thoroughly went over everything that he worked on and gave me tips on upkeep and future service. This small shop in the lovely town of Davis is a great place to bring any of your motorsport vehicles! read more

Davis Motorsports represents the vibe of Davis with its independent, mom & pop atmosphere. I only recently bought a motorcycle and I brought it into Davis motorsports for some new tires. I rode my bike there for a quick quote and the owner took time to do a quick inspection of my bike free of charge. He noted other small problems with the bike and recommended what needed to be done in order of importance. The cost to change my tires was reasonable, less than 300 with the cost of both tires included. It would have been even cheaper if I brought the tires off the bike but alas, I don't have a motorcycle stand. This shop is a fair and honest shop that will go out of their way to treat you with respect and fair prices. I would highly recommend anyone with a motorcycle to use this shop. Plus, the shop dog is really friendly as well Edit: This shop is one of the best shops I have been to period. I trust my bike with these guys and I know the work done will be reliable. Brian and Erik will take care of your bikes like they are your own and you will pay a fair and reasonable price for work done. Erik especially is active in the motorcycling community and hosts group rides with the Davis biker community. This shop brings so much more to Davis than a large dealership would and I recommend anyone who is even interested in motorcycling to go to the shop and just check it out. read more

I've had Davis Motorsports do two jobs for me. 1 Fork Rebuild for my 2007 Triumph Daytona 675. The forks are leaking a little bit just days after. But that could be due to the condition of the forks which probably have some dings in the tubes. The second and final job was when I didn't tighten my oil cap on my clutch side for my 2008 ninja zx-6r. It flew off on the highway and it was raining, so water went into my engine. I brought my bike to Brian's shop for an emergency cap replacement and oil change to drain out the water. He made the same mistake I did. He didn't tighten the oil cap firmly enough and the cap flew off on the highway where it was raining the heaviest I have ever seen on the highway. So two pints of water later.... Brian is a good guy, so he sent one of his employees to my house to check if the "threads" on my clutch cover were worn out which may have caused the cap to fall out. It wasn't. And when I told him I wanted synthetic oil which I have been using all this time, he tells me that I am scamming him to get the higher quality oil from his shop. So I had to settle with semi-synthetic which made him happy but me not much so. Still, just a misunderstanding from both parties in my perspective, so I still recommend this place since Brian's a good guy. Anyone who doesn't have time to work on their own bikes should go here for sure. read more

This place is absolutely fantastic! When I bought my '94 BMW R1100rs in August, it had a right side head gasket leak. I had that fixed, but a month later the left side started leaking. On the service records it was indicated that some other shop in the Bay Area had fixed the left side previously, about 50k miles ago. I took it to Davis Motorsports where it was very promptly looked at. They were very reasonable about pricing and telling me exactly what was going on with my bike. They fixed the leak, (and were very accommodating with my ridiculous work schedule). It took them shorter than the time they estimated and I am very happy with the quality and price of the service. read more

I've had two very poor experiences with Davis Motorsports and Davis Chevrolet. I would never use them again because they can't be trusted. Brought my Tahoe in to Davis Chevrolet as the driver window would only come down half way. Their service department checked it out and stated the power window regulator was worn out and needed to be replaced. They quoted me $497. I thought that was ridiculous especially since the window has been rolled down maybe 20 times. I wanted a second opinion so I went across the street to Harwoods auto body. They checked it out and found some door insulation caught in the track. They pulled it out and everything has worked fine. Charged me like $30. Salute to Harwoods for being honest and handling it quickly. This past winter I found one of my sleds, a Polaris had a small gas leak after pulling out of storage. I brought the sled in to Davis Motorsports to have the gas leak fixed. They said the carburetors needed to be reworked and the fuel leak was coming from them. After they reworked the carburetors they stated that fuel was leaking also from the fuel shut off valve. The bill came to $785 instead of the verbal estimate of $400. Was it leaking from two locations? The carbs were also just cleaned one year prior at a dealer up in Wi. So I take the snowmobile's up north and at 1.8 miles into use after picking up this sled the engine cylinder thru a rod and blew out the engine case. I called Davis and of course they said "we didn't do anything to cause it". No one else just had taken it apart and put it back together. Very suspicious. No proof and nothing I could do. They offered no effort to help other than stating "we'll fix it for you for $2300.". Bob B. read more

WARNING!!!: Take your bike here only if you want to be ripped off and put in a dangerous situation. The new ownership of this shop practices nothing short of fraud. I had such a bad experience that I would put down 0 Stars if it were possible. I called Davis Motorsports because my battery had died, I wanted an oil change, and I wanted to have all of the fluids looked at. The new owner came by and picked my bike up and took it to the shop. We agreed on the following: 1.) I would get a new battery. 2.) I would get an oil change. 3.) The bike would be looked over for maintenance needs, fluids would be replaced as necessary, and I would be informed of any other needs. I picked up the bike, rode it home, and parked it. The next morning when I came outside almost ALL of the oil had leaked out. Why? Because the oil filter was not screwed all the way on. I had to go and buy some more oil and screw the filter in properly. Then after a few days of use, the battery died again. I thought that perhaps a wire was loose or something so I went to check and was burned by the terminal. As it turns out, they did not hook the batter up properly. I was very annoyed by this. I specifically told the shop to check for any electrical leaks and to check and make sure that the generator was still working. I am now certain that they did not do any of this. I called the shop and informed them of my situation and the owner offered to fix the mistake. He came and picked up the battery to recharge it and offered me "Free service because we messed the oil up." He then brought somebody by and re-installed the battery. Unfortunately, the woes multiply from here. I rode my bike to San Francisco and in the middle of a busy intersection I lost tension in my clutch and so I could not shift. As it turns out, my fluids were very low. I had the bike towed to a bike shop. The mechanic looked it over for 5 minutes and pointed out several things that NEEDED to be done. My clutch and brake fluids were low, my tires needed to be replaced, and I needed to replace the fork seals as one was leaking. In the end I was charged ~$200.00 for nothing. I received less than half-assed service. If the shop had looked the bike over for more than 30 seconds they would have noticed all of these things. Instead, I ended up stalled out in a busy S.F. intersection until the fluid settled enough where I could shift again. I did not get what I paid for. read more

I can't say enough positive things about my experience buying a bike and having it serviced from here. First let me say that in a business like this not everything is always going to go smoothly, but the real test of a dealerships honesty is how they make those errors right with the customer. The bike they sold me ended up having a few problems with the carb that they were not aware of. I can't blame them for this because it wasn't noticeable until about 45mph. I didn't notice during the test ride either. I ended up having to call them from the side of the road saying there's a problem. One of the salesmen helps me get back to the shop and calls the owner (at this point it is actually after business hours). The owner drives straight to the shop and immediately apologizes. Right off the bat I can tell he really cares about the quality of service he provides. He ends up seeing what he can do himself in the limited time I have. When he realizes that fixing this could take a few hours he honestly and completely tells me what the issue is. He then drives me home 40 miles as my new bike was supposed to be my transportation. And his shop is currently fixing the problem free of charge to me. It was technically my bike at that point. He wasn't obligated to do anything. But he spent hours of his time and his employees time to make it right. Not to mention he is delivering the bike to my door. I could tell he wasn't used to not knowing of an issue with a bike he was selling and I don't blame him for not seeing it earlier, as he has dozens of bikes coming in and out of his shop. I didn't notice on my test drive either. You won't be disappointed here. read more

This tell you how much I really wanted to rate Davis Motorsports and let everyone know about their friendly and helpful service! Brian and John are extremely helpful, I hassled them numerous times over the phone before even coming in for a service and they answered all my questions patiently. After I came in to get my battery changed, they even gave me advice how to change the battery myself so that I only have to pay for the battery and not the labor. Brian (the owner) is very considerate that I was a college student and not very knowledgeable of my scooter, and did not try to rip me off at all. John and Brian are both friendly and great, considerate towards their customers and tries their best to service in the best way they can, even when I came into their shop during an extremely busy time. read more

I came to Davis Motorsports for a general service and to replace a peg and blinker after lowsiding. The owner was very nice but another man that I dealt with on a couple occasions seems disinterested. I was overcharged for the work by a little, which I noticed after taking the bike home and looking over the math on the receipt. I brought the receipt back the next day, the employee working there (the disinterested one) took out a calculator and went over it in front of me and realized that there was an error. He asked if cash was ok, and gave it to me when I said yes. I was put off that he made no apology, and didn't seem to care that he had overcharged me. Overall, my experience here was OK. The owner is nice, but if there were another moto shop in the area I would be going there instead. read more

Although yeah, maybe their prices are better, but if the owner says 80 bucks, and the staff says they've never heard of an 80 dollar service before when I dropped it off, then the owner calls and ups the price to 115 after you've already dropped off your bike, just doesn't seem right. If you've done business for 21 years, you should know your basic price points. Specially since the staff was shocked to hear the owner made that estimate. So if you call, expect a lower price point over the phone than what you get in person. I even asked for a few bucks off just for the inconvenience and he stated, "Should of argued that when I called you back to tell you it was higher." He may be right, but that is just bad business. Brian and Rob are the only guys I'm willing to take my bike to in Davis. I'm a college student and am working with a limited budget, and they really took this into account. I've got a 82 Virago thats been giving me problems for a while and Brian replaced the battery for me with no service charge since the new battery wasn't shipped in the quoted time. He gives honest advice, tries to save you as much money as possible, and is in no way condescending or impatient when you want to ask questions and know as much as possible. Very unprofessional. I took my Kawasaki in for service and found out later that the guy left an air box line undone. I know this guy has a busy schedule being the only mechanic in town and I understand not being able to go over every bike in detail but to be honest, he overcharged me for mediocre service. Won't be going in again, rather learn how to do the work myself than pay $90 an hour for disconnected hardware and a basic home garage fluid change. read more

These guys are ok, I have been riding over 35 years. I ride vintage motorcycles and took my 1976 Honda to them. I just bought this bike and knew the carb needed to be rebuilt, I purchased the rebuild kit myself. I brought the motorcycle and kit to Brian and asked that it be tuned up and the oil changed. He got it running, it was done earlier then expected and was cheaper then the quote i had received. They suggested I replace the fork seals, I ordered the parts myself and brought them to to them. They completed the job on time, (one day), for the quoted price. So far I think they are reasonable and if you are specific in your needs, and for vintage riders supply your own parts, they can get the job done. As a side note, I have a Harley and went to a Harley only shop for a carb rebuild and tune up, upon completion the carb leaked, (you have to shut the fuel off every time you shut the bike off), and the bike sputters. This was expensive work at a supposedly reputable shop. The moral is give these guys a shot, and like i tell my buddies don't put yourself, or your mechanic in a rush rush situation, its not their fault this is your only ride, plan ahead and give them time to get it right and you will both be happy. read more

I've gone to Davis Motorsports many times and I've always been very impressed.The owner really listens to you and is always up front and honest as to what he think is wrong and what its going to cost. He's fixed repair jobs that other places, namely Berkeley Performance Motorcycles, messed up. This place does an honest job at an honest price, I've never been unsatisfied with the labor, estimates and turn around time. If you ride in Davis, or even Sacramento or Woodland this should be your place of business. After having brought my bike to this shop a handful of times the owner remembers me, and always treats me with respect, which as a young guy I don't often find from motorcycle shop mechanics.
