Well I can't get my hat or my dignity back, but I did get a great deal on a new car key. I've had a car key break (like the fob shattered in the ignition) before, so I knew what I was in store for after I lost my keys to the river. Still I did my homework and called Ford to ask about the key. Around $100 to replace the key and then $200 to reprogram it. Now I'm going to take a step out of my review to just say this to anyone who lost their car key/needs a new one. DO NOT BUY A KEY FROM THE DEALER! Go on to amazon, order a new key, and find someone (hopefully this place) that will replace it for you. I went on to amazon and bought a new key for like $50. I then called Budget Locksmith to make an appointment. It was great! They come to you first of all, which was nice. I didn't have to disrupt my daily routine too much to make this work. The service was quick, responsible, and didn't break the bank! I think I spent like $85 getting the key cut and programmed. Told them it was a rim lock. Was quoted $150. It's a Sunday so that was expected. Locksmith arrives in a non-marked car. Locksmith looks very young, maybe 19-20. I tell him that it is a rim lock and I show him the picture I took of it by sliding my phone under the door. I also tell him we don't care about preserving the lock because we're going to take it off immediately. He nods and gets started. Tries a few different sized tools. Tells me it's going to be $50 more because it's harder than he thought. Tries one more thing. Tells me it's going to be another $50 more because they have to drill the lock since it is a rim lock and they didn't know that. I corrected him and said he DID know that because I told him. The senior locksmith arrives at this point. I try to negotiate, kid won't budge. Says the company sets the prices. I considered sending them back but really wanted to get into my room. Tell them to move forward but make the kid shake on $250 total before they start drilling and no more. It was a tough lock to drill through. They didn't try to upcharge again, not sure if that was because of me or not. Long story short, $250 for 20 minutes in the house to drill out a lock.
