A very tiny shop that does good work. Reason for only 3 stars is that in the middle of a global pandemic, the employees refused to put on a mask despite me asking. They said that they think COVID is hype and blown out of proportion. Since there is so little space, you need to be within 2 feet of each other. I stopped by to get a barrel key duplicated and was told they were out but more would be in tomorrow. No big deal, I came back the next day to be told the locksmith had the tools with him to cut the key and to come back the next day. I said I would be in at 8:30 and he suggested I make it 9:00 that way he would have the till logged in and whatever else they do in the morning to get ready for the day. The next day arrived and I called them at 9:20 AM and was told the locksmith had not come back to the office so they had no tools to cut the key but that he had to stop by at 1:00 to pick up keys for his next job and they would get the tool then. I like shopping local and I like to support small businesses but this is ridiculous. I did not even get a I am sorry for you making you come back 3 times for a key! read more

I agree with the commeny that 'Coop's is not just a key cutter but a locksmith,' After disasterous experiences at 'key cuttets', including having to replace the lock because the new key got stuck, I went to Coops to have spare keys cut for the new lock. He not only identified it from just looking at the key he cut them so well that they worked first time. No figgling about like those from key cutters. Price wise not much more expensive than Home Depot etc. but executed by a craftsman. Good place to go. read more

So... this place knows how to make keys - big deal. There are a lot of places that can do that. The reasons why you should choose those other places are: 1. the THICK fog of cigarette smoke once you walk into this place is enough to give you instant cancer. 2. The service is ... less than average. I felt like a complete idiot when I asked a question about locks - I got a snoody reply as if I should know EVERYTHING there is to know about the topic. It's not my field, hence the question. 3. I can get keys made cheaper somewhere else. You would never be able to receive the services Coop's provides at the average Home Depot or Lowe's. This is a locksmith, not a key cutter at your Wal-Mart. Coop's assists me in all aspects of locksmith service, including occasionally staying open beyond closing time for me when I called and notified I was on my way. Coop's Locksmith goes above and beyond in customer service. I have gotten valuable advice as an apartment building manager from the staff. Coop's provides high quality locks, re-keys existing deadbolts, creates "do not duplicate" keys, repairs broken locks and answers any and all of my questions. My only key for my 39 Buick was badly worn, so after several attempts at getting new keys made from hardware stores and building supply centers; and after I got the trunk locked and couldn't get it open with my only key, I decided I need PROFESSIONAL help. I dropped by mid afternoon, and they took one look at the car and the key, and said "no problem". With one try they had a new key made that was like new! So, for an investment of 10 minutes and a few dollars, I could have saved myself a lot of time and frustration. Next time, go with a pro--it will save you in the end. I brought a simple scooter ignition to this run down shack of a Locksmith. I was told over the phone that it shouldn't be a problem to cut a key. When i got their he took a quick look at it scribbled my name and number down and said he`d call me in a couple days? 2 days? I said seems like a long time, but , whatever. I waited 2 days and never heard anything so I called, and was told they were "still working on it". And might need a couple more days! It was friday, so i was looking at next Wednesday? Right then I knew I was dealing with incompetence. They provide excellent services, great customer's services and are on time when you order keys from them. Their prices are very reasonable but the quality is wonderful. I agree on the smoky cloud in the small repurposed gas station shack. I think the same surly woman was sitting behind the key racks the last time I was there 15-20 years ago. Hasn't changed a bit. She does know her business, and the younger guy, I'm assuming is her son, was pleasant enough and willing to experiment to solve a hard to find key issue. So if you can get past the atmosphere and the surliness they can get the job done. read more

I have used Coops for over 20 years for commercial buildings and any other key making services! Although the smoke is awful, these folks know what they are doing and I never have to go back because my keys don't work, hence-- not all places can make keys that actually work!.. snoody - they are not!! It is Friday, Oct 2, 2015, and I am MORE than HAPPY to write a good review about a WONDERFUL experience I had with Coop's Locksmith, in Anoka. I had called yesterday, near their quittin' time, but the gal said "just let me know, and I'll keep open 'til you get here." !!! Hallelujah! Is this for REAL? As it was, I couldn't get there, yest, so went in today about an old suitcase that somehow got locked while in the airline's possession. The owner-guy had a key (for a '70's model Samsonite, no less) and opened it right there -- no problemo!! The charge? Two whole dollars. !! He could sell me the key for $5, so I bought it...and then he cancelled the $2 charge for opening the suitcase!! Thank you, Lord!! I told him he could count on me to share my good experience on fb. We got talkin' and he told me about lots of stuff ppl should know about not getting scammed when they need help with a lock. If more than 2 or 3 of the following "red flags," watch out! No store, no invoice letterhead, no business card, no uniform, no company vehicle, says YOUR lock is special, so it needs more work & more $$, wants crazy amount of $ if you want to use your cr card (shouldn't be more than $3 per $100), sells you a $3 replacement lock...but charges $80 for it. He told me that scammers will then BULLY the customer when customer tells scammer they're uncomfortable. e.g. "I'm not leaving 'til you pay me!" VERY good experience with Coop's! this is an old school locksmith.small shop but with everything you need.i have used him about 6 times know as I run a business in the area and I have used him for both my shop and personal.he has arrived each time very very fast and only charged me for exactly what he did and the 2 times he could not help me he referred me to the rite person and charged me nothing..they even have oddball keys as i needed one for a 1973 speed boat nobody else had..I highly recommend this place read more
