I walked in needing to have keys copied. The service was prompt, the copies they made work well and the service was reasonably priced.

Six doors in the suite and everybody was carrying a fistful of keys. He set it up so my key opens all six while each person gets one that opens only their own room. One key on my ring instead of six, and the whole change took an afternoon. read more

I had a very antique double thumb opener door lock. The wood on the door in which was located was no longer accepting the screws needed to keep it secure. I asked if there was something that could be done other than buy a new door. The technician took care to fill old holes and drill new ones and the entire door works beautifully and looks good, too. I may eventually need a new door but everything's great now. read more

Specifically chose this locksmith because a friend of mine works there. However on the day I visited he was out. The two locksmiths who assisted me were generous with their time and suggestions. I needed a couple of keys copied, but the clinker was the skeleton key I needed for a building that is 110+ years old. Copying the keys was easy, but the skeleton key was more difficult. Instead of selling me a couple of keys which may or may not have worked back at home the locksmith suggested I pull the lock from the door and bring it in so they could find an exact duplicate to the key. He explained there were thousands of options for skeleton keys and wanted to be sure they had something that worked. I appreciate the honesty and suggestion as a previous purchase of a key from a larger hardware store establishment failed because the key failed to operate the lock. I have another lock that needs to be reassembled or replaced and will rely on their expertise for assistance. Even though the bus ride from my home in north Minneapolis to their south Minneapolis location is lengthy it was worth the trip. In addition to the visit here, I can stop and check out some restaurants on Nicollet Avenue. Thank you Minneapolis Lock & Key! read more

I had tried making key copies elsewhere and the keys would not work. One try is all this took and key copies were working fine. Also reasonably priced. read more

Holy shit! these folks hooked it up like nobody's business! I drunkenly snapped my key in an apartment front door. I called them, and they provided clear options. I ended up taking the lock in and they repair it in the spot! Friendly. Cool. Happy people. I love them. 300 stars read more

I went in to get an extra gate key made. The young man at the counter charged me double for the exact same key that my friend made for me a week prior. Was I charged more because I am a woman? I'm not sure. Prices for keys are not posted anywhere. I'm very disappointed as I have been a customer for years. read more

This is a super friendly, honest, and helpful lock and key store (and on-call locksmith, although I didn't use their mobile service) in South Minneapolis! We were having a problem with our (condo) door lock. Replacing/rekeying one of these locks is a big deal, so I took the lock off the door and brought it here in hopes it could be fixed. They were able to clean it and check it over to make sure it was working properly. I left with a couple new keys and a properly working lock, all for way, way less than I expected. The staff here is super friendly. I'll definitely visit again any time I have a lock and/or key problem! read more

I recently hired Minneapolis Lock & Key to re-key my house. After many years, we felt that there were too many unreturned "loaner" keys floating around out there and decided to re-key our entire house. I called Minneapolis Lock & Key because they are near my home, I had used them before, and their reviews on Yelp were good. It was easy to make an appointment on a time and date that fit my schedule. The technician arrived right on time and got to work on my four locks. It took a couple of hours but he did a great job and now all my locks have new keys. I felt the cost was very reasonable. I certainly highly recommend Minneapolis Lock & Key. read more

they are amazing, they only sell you things that you actually need, give you advice on how to fix what you already have, never any upselling at all, potentially to a fault for their business model. I would highly recommend them, as a bright group of individuals who can help you with your lock needs read more

I cannot express how great this place is. I had an old safe that I lost the key to and the batteries died so I was locked out. I didn't want to have a locksmith to my home because I'm a single woman living alone and had a good amount of cash in the safe, so I wasn't happy about the idea of anyone knowing that I stored that much cash in my home. Apparently, locksmith storefronts are hard to find, and this place was the closest one to me. With such limited options, I wasn't worried about great service or pricing, I just wanted my safe opened. Well, I got lucky with Minneapolis Lock & Key, because not only was the service amazing, they hardly charged me anything!! They were also able to open my safe in record time. I am so happy I found this place. I HIGHLY recommend! read more

If you're in Minneapolis and need a lock or key, I might suggest Minneapolis Lock & Key. Most hardware stores didn't have the right kind of key for my Buick, and the ones that did all charged $69.99, but this place only charged me $50. read more

I spoke with Tom to schedule a lock replacement. He was easy to talk to and was very patient with all my questions. Andy was the guy who came out and he did a great job and was very nice! We highly recommend using this company! read more

What wonderful service. We had an accident with an E-bike battery. Key was bent and the lock would not work. Brought it in and maybe 10 minutes later it was fixed!! I am so impressed and happy that I used them. Very friendly staff, and the safety steps they have put in place for Covid-19 are great!! Thank you so very much!! read more

Friendly & knowledgeable staff. It's difficult to assess the price as the items I needed were quite unique

Just had the BEST experience getting a replacement car key cut. The guys here are masters at what they do. Quick and kind service. They even had bubbles for my young daughter. Minneapolis Lock & Key quickly got my locks changed after I bought my house. I was able to bring them the locks and get new keys! They were even able to make a key for the screen door lock which I didn't have a key for. Quick, simple, and efficient- traits every business needs! read more

I LOVE finding an old school business that just does things RIGHT. My car is 16 years old, and over time the ignition key had worn nearly smooth. Needed a new one. Called the dealership, where I would have needed a service appointment. Stumbled across Minneapolis Lock and Key on 44th and Nicollet. The gentleman who helped me (he had a beard, but I didn't catch his name) was able to "read" my key by eye and cut me a new one on the spot. AND I got a skeleton key which works on the wooden case for my 1890s Husqvarna sewing machine! $33 all told! Bet the dealership would have charged a lot more than that! The yelp listing says this place is by appointment only, but I just walked in and they helped me right away. GREAT PLACE!! read more

Every now and then you walk into a business and, before anyone even has a chance to greet you, you know that you're among experts. This place is the alpha and omega of locks. If they don't have it, or know about it, then it isn't legit. Mpls Key & Lock is the real-deal of a home-grown, local business with great customer service and supremely competent technicians. I feel lucky to have discovered them. Thank Yelp! read more

I had a simple project: re-key our new home and swap out a couple of dual cylinder locks with singles. I wanted to arrange for the job via email, but it was clear they wanted me to stop by their shop. Which I guess I can understand from the business's point of view. Anyway, I dropped by their shop and talked with a gruff man. But the man they sent out for the job was quiet and friendly and we chatted briefly about books. Having worked with another locksmith company before for a much larger job (rekeying a small condo building), I felt Minneapolis Lock & Key's rates were a little high. Overall, a good experience and I would recommend them to others. read more

These guys were excellent. Quoted me a fair price up front and stuck to it. The guy who came out was super prompt, quick, friendly, and also - bonus! - educational. Make sure to use their local number and do not get sniped by "24/7's" 800 #. read more

I inherited an old grandma car from my grandmother, and unfortunately this grandma car had no key for the doors and trunk. For the first 5 years I had this car, I didn't have a problem because I could use the remote to open the doors and trunk, but when the remote system eventually failed I needed to finally get a key made. The guys at Minneapolis Lock & Key did an excellent job. They know their stuff, got me a new key made in 30 minutes, and charge a fair and competitive price for their excellent service. I have nothing but good things to say about my experience with them. read more

Went in there with an old skeleton key for a 100 year old house, and some other keys to be made. The guys hand ground the key to work, luckily I was smart enough to take the locking mechanism ot the shop with me. It seemed obvious, that to resolve this issue, its best to take the whole thing there. In a world of automated key machines, and untrained techs, these guys just get it done with the ages of experience. They are not the cheapest, but but quite fair. They are your easy button, and a solid local business to support. read more

I locked myself out of my car at Richfield Target and they were there within 10 minutes. Great service and reasonable prices!

The services they actually performed went well, but pricing was not what I was told on the phone. They quoted me $25-$35 on the phone and when I picked up my ignition cylinder charged me $48. I mentioned it to the guy ringing me up and he didn't seem to care. read more

I needed an extra key for my condo and my condo association was going to charge me 100 bucks but this placed charged me 5 bucks and got it done in one minute! if you need to duplicate any keys, go to them! Although customer service might not be excellent, the guy was complaining I gave him coins instead after he rang me up. I get that but complaining in front of a customer is on another level .. anyhow I still gave them 5 stars for getting things done fast and right. read more

I just moved into a new house that had broken locks and a mess of keys, and called Minneapolis Lock & Key to have the locks re-keyed. Brian came out and was super helpful -- he re-keyed several various manufacturer locks so I only have to deal with one key, and suggested I switch from scary double-cylinder locks to thumb turns, which is so much safer. He pointed out some flaws in the doors, fixed them and made sure the locks and entire doors were working smoothly. There is such a difference now -- all of the doors and locks operate so much more smoothly than before. He had everything he needed with him so it was an incredibly fast process at a pretty reasonable price. Definitely give Minneapolis Lock and Key a call if you need a locksmith! read more

We needed a smaller cylinder length for the door knob set. The arrogant female employee, who I had never seen before in the 7 years I've been a customer would not sell me one. She told me it was the hinges or strike plate and then handed me a card and told me someone could look at it. She made the false assumption that the person who installed the door knob used the correct cylinder initially. Wrong. Now I have to order the correct size from HD Supply. read more

We talked to the same arrogant and condescending guy described by other reviewers. He was down-right nasty. We needed help getting a new key and fob when we locked ourselves out of our car. He person who answered asked where are car is currently located. My husband answered "in our garage." I thought he was trying to answer to discern whether we were trapped by the side of the road or something. He answered, "how am I supposed to know where your garage is." He was so nasty about it. Then he scolded my husband saying "Look, if you are not going to answer my questions I am going to hang up on you." Um, we're trying to answer your questions. Then he asked if we need the key or just the remote. My husband explained that the key and the fob were both on the keychain we lost. The locksmith then says "It is a REMOTE, not a FOB." The he accused my husband of being difficult and hung up on him. What?????? What a total JERK! read more

O...M...G. I didn't even get to the point where I used these guys' services because my initial contact was SO negative. First of all, the guy answering the phone sounds like he's high; arrogant, slurring his words and SO condescending. He contradicted himself after asking me if it was a house or an apartment - I said house - after which he said they don't service them, again in a condescending manner. And then he said if it was a house they would charge a $65 inspection just to look at the lock, and of course, I understand the fee, which is fine. But...um...did you not just hear me say it was a house? THEN, after asking me about the locks that I wanted replaced, he kept interrupting me saying it was "xyz" when he didn't have all the information. Of course, this isn't my first rodeo, so I said, "no, it has this mechanism and this", during which he cut me off again and said his first availability wasn't for 5 days because they were SO busy. I said "fine, I am traveling and will be back on the xxth of the month so I'd like to arrange an appt..." during which he cut me off again and said something which I couldn't quite understand (again, he was slurring and sounded like he was high), then asked when I wanted to schedule an appt. I paused, then said, "well, honestly, I am so unimpressed with this initial contact, I'm not sure I want to use your services now." Now, get this, he replies (remember the condescending tone? multiply that X 10 now), "well, good luck finding someone else in the area that does what we do..." at which point I hung up. Are you KIDDING me? Run away, my friend...run away! BTW, I only post negative comments like this if it was extreme - I try to give the benefit of a doubt, but this was off the charts. Good luck if you choose this business! There are other choices. read more
