I had a great experience with Active Locks 24-7. I initially chose their services because I found a Groupon deal and needed the locks re-keyed in a rental house I own. Ron with Active Locks 24-7 was very professional and thorough in assessing the locks that needed re-keying and making recommendations. He was prompt and called my contact number prior to arrival to make me aware he was on his way. When he arrived, I was attempting to get a padlocked door unlocked. I asked for help and he happily got out his tools and went to work on it, and fitted it with a new padlock that works great. I ended up having to have the locks re-keyed again within 5 days (due to renter issues) and Ron was able to squeeze in an appointment the following morning. The new keys work perfectly. Buying a new home requires you to work with many service providers setting up everything necessary to live in the home, many who find scheduling and keeping appointments difficult. Not Ron. My neighbor who locked herself out of her house. Our local White Bear Lake locksmith was closed so we went to Active Locks per the Yelp recommendations and the fact they were open on the weekend. We have always had good luck using highly reocommended Yelp companies & restaturants. NOT THIS TIME. We called and they stated it was a $20.00 service call + $25 minimum but it could go up as the technician will assess the amount of labor required once he/she arrives. IN our mind, this was going to be an $80 to $90 call. The technician did arrive fairly prompty (about 10 minutes later than expected). This is when my neighbor was told & shown on the paperwork that a call on the weekend is considered "emergency rate' which came at $85 + $20 service + $60 to get into the "tough to get into steel door with quick-set locks". It took him approx 20 seconds to open up the door. If upon calling, the person we scheduled the call with had been u- front with the emergency costs, this would have likely mad a big difference in our decision making. It turns out the technican that came out was a contractor with Reliable Locks which likely has different policies than we were told of the phone. In sum, the on-site service we prompt and the guy did open up the door quickly. But the communication and quoting process was very sketchy. read more
