My husband likes to say that the river has taken three things from me this summer; my hat, my car keys, and my dignity. Well I can't get my hat or my dignity back, but I did get a great deal on a new car key. I've had a car key break (like the fob shattered in the ignition) before, so I knew what I was in store for after I lost my keys to the river. Still I did my homework and called Ford to ask about the key. Around $100 to replace the key and then $200 to reprogram it. Now I'm going to take a step out of my review to just say this to anyone who lost their car key/needs a new one. DO NOT BUY A KEY FROM THE DEALER! Go on to amazon, order a new key, and find someone (hopefully this place) that will replace it for you. I went on to amazon and bought a new key for like $50. I then called Budget Locksmith to make an appointment. It was great! They come to you first of all, which was nice. I didn't have to disrupt my daily routine too much to make this work. The service was quick, responsible, and didn't break the bank! I think I spent like $85 getting the key cut and programmed. Technician Chad did not return my phone calls requesting update, left USED face masks (gross) in my car + my glove box items strewn about the car + abandoned the project. Luke had to complete the job NEXT DAY but did not provide keys as promised, and also not returned phone calls. BAD BAD BAD. Earlier today, I didn't even know this service existed. After today, I will recommend it without hesitation. My Civic got some key chip codes goofed up after I mistakenly drained my battery to zilch. That meant my car wouldn't allow me to start it with my own keys until the codes were reset. So how does one do that? Bored Honda service guy on phone: "Yeah, I'm afraid you'll have to have it towed to us and then we can reset it for about $150 a key." Me: "We'll see about that." A short amount of Googling later, I have a house call (!) set up with these guys, same day. Luke had no problem with my purchasing keys online prior to calling him to cut and program. Luke was pleasant, early, and quick. Had the keys cut and programmed in ten minutes, charged me about half what other locksmiths and the dealers had quoted me. I don't need a locksmith often, but I'll remember him... I had 3 Chrysler keys cut and programmed. competitors started at $ 40.00 each to cut and program the keys I provided. I can't even say what it cost if I didn't provide the blanks. Called because I could not unlock the door of my HHR. Was asked if I wanted repaired of just opened and I said repaired as I was told it mattered because of who they would send. They sent someone from Lock Squad? Not who I called and he came back if a few minutes said he got in the car cycled the power lock a few times and it works. Said he did not know what was wrong so he was just charging me for an unlock. It was $75! Really to unlock a car door. WTF do I do if it happens someplace else? Had the unfortunate experience of losing the only key for my Toyota Avalon. The new key will not work unless the locksmith can "re-flash" the ignition. The first two companies I called said they were unable to re-flash the car. Then I called Budget and spoke to Luke, he informed me he could do that, and he quoted a price and time when he would arrive at my location. They came out during the recent snow storm and made me a duplicate of the key in less than 10 min. Programming it was a little longer 10-15 min. But understandable because my car is an older model. I forgot his name but it wasn't Luke who came. But very nice guy. I also needed my remotes programmed and he programmed them for free with the purchase of the key! Compared to other places which charges extra to program your own remote fobs which is ridiculous because it literally took less than 30 sec and doesn't require any special tools. We have used Budget Locksmith for several things including extra fobs for my keyless entry car, extra keys for our other cars and, the most challenging, a new key for a car for which we had lost the key. Luke had to come out to our house to fit the key. It proved to be extra challenging given how old the car is. Luke spent a lot of time getting it right and had a great attitude the entire time. I called this business because they were still open at 2 PM on a Saturday. Didn't get Luke @ Budget Locksmith, but I did get Jim at All Knight Locksmiths. I wanted the locks changed on a house and Jim was able to meet me within a few hours to get the job done. Jim was very polite and the work was reasonably priced. And no upcharge for weekend work!
