BLUF: Good Jamaican patties.
David's Bakery is a small shop offering Jamaican patties and pound cakes in a variety of flavors.
David's Jamaican patties are better than what we've had from Kingston Bakery (the Myrtle Avenue location, at least) and Ms. Muffin N' Her Stuffin; and seem surpassed only by Tosh's Patties.
We tried David's beef and jerk chicken patties. The patties here are $3 each, compared to $4 at Kingston. David's patties have a flakier crust but less filling than Kingston's versions, but are more flavorful than the latter. David's beef patty has more of a spicy kick than Kingston's. Tosh's Patties have been the most flavorful Jamaican patties we've tried, but at $8 to $10 plus tax per patty ($10.89 for a beef patty at Prospect Park Smorgasburg), Tosh's Patties may not be worth their 160%+ premium to David's Jamaican patties.
Cake slices at David's Bakery seem to be between $2.50 and $3. I noticed carrot cake slices, and pineapple guava, strawberry, and lemon pound cakes and cake slices for sale. The pineapple guava cake was good, as the combination of fruits made the cake taste like candy.
I didn't see pricing information at David's Bakery, other than for the patties.
