I just had my 3rd or 4th (can't remember) Brazilian Blowout with Natalia and as always my hair looks amazing! I have incredibly thick, long hair and it scares most hairstylists away but Natalia has always been gracious and makes it look flawless! She does an incredible job with great attention to detail and she really cares about her clients. I met her when she worked at Full Blown and I followed her over here because I love her so much! I wouldn't get this treatment done by anyone else. She has also cut and thinned out my hair and done a phenomenal job. I have a friend who's hair always looks fabulous- I of course wanted to know who she goes to. Well, she let me in on a nice little secret. David Michael- It is a small salon and it is only David and another hairstylist. David really knows what he is doing- I was incredibly impressed with my hair cut. I have super long hair and most stylists dont know how to handle it. They either huff and puff or just hack away. David- took his time, explained what he was doing and why and left me with alot of volume but kept the length- when you have long hair that is usually the main issue- it weighs down. I am really excited that I finally found someone who can handle my mane! Also, the price I was quoted for partial hilights was not outrageous (actually on the low side) I will definitely be returning for my trim's and highlights. read more

Today I got my hair cut via a walk in with Nenette. I was in the area shopping and decided I was long overdo for a trim. I hadn't had my hair cut professionally in about two years because I stopped doing anything to my hair once I stopped getting highlights. Prior to my haircut, I had about six to seven inches of just pure, dry misery from my former highlights. I had dyed over them with brunette and just let them be (my prof pic is old), but my hair was a daily battle brushing because of all the damage. I started coming here for my extensions after my mom recommend Amy. I've now been going to see her every 6-9 weeks for about a year to get my extensions done (double wefts and tapes-ins.) Recently, I decided to go blonde and was a little nervous about it but it looks FANTASTIC! I get compliments after every visit. Amy is also very personable and I enjoy my time at the salon. I am always nervous when I begin with a new stylist, but having moved from the Midwest I had to find some one local. My first appointment with Nenette was wonderful, she really took the time to get to know me and understand my preferences. She continues to begin each appointment with a consultation, providing ideas and seeking my feedback before she begins. Nenette is very detail oriented and ensures her client's satisfaction throughout the appointment. I usually like to get something a little different at each appointment and am always pleased with the result. Nenette is truly an artist when it comes to color. I stay blonde but vary between dark and light, embracing all the shades between. I have never gotten the dimension from a color treatment that I get with Nenette. Regardless of the process she uses, it comes out amazing. I always like the cut and style that I leave with too. It always looks modern and is easy for me to replicate the next morning. If you're looking for a cute, clean, professional looking salon with great products such as Kevin Murphy, this salon fits the bill. It is also located in River Oaks, with accessible parking right out front, so you feel like you are going to an "it" salon. However, my experience and cut lack lustre to say the least. In fact, as my first "covid cut" in 6 months I was extremely disappointed. I had Amy as a stylist and she was very easy going, up beat, and seemed to listen to what I was looking for. This did not translate into a cut with any style or real look to it. In fact, I left with merely my ends trimmed into a blunt cut that just kind of hung there when the curls fell out an hour later. I reluctantly, contacted them to understand where the layers for movement or a few other points we discussed were and they were good to have me come in to fix it up. While Amy seemed to be interested in helping to give me what I wanted, I still could not illicit any real opinion from her, or sense of investment in giving me a cut with some style to it. In fact, she was probably just as frustrated as me as she ended up chopping in some layers that were a lot shorter than we agreed on and were quite uneven and disconnected, using a technique that I expressly asked her not to. I have been to my fairshare of salons in many different cities and I have a level of expectation around techniques, guidance and input. I clearly did not get this here. Maybe this place is better suited for the suburban moms who drive from outside the city to come in for their regular cuts as Amy expressed were her regular clientele. **** I have since read the owners response and such defensive feedback really illustrates the level at which they operate. And his need to account such details that are in fact inaccuracte is just facinating. Quite unfortunate. It would have spoken volumes had David Michael reached out as he suggested he would have. I decided to book an appointment with Natalia. I've been buying Kevin Murphy products from DMS for several years but never had any services. I've been going to the same hairdresser for over 3 years but my hair looked horrible. I thought it was from my thyroid but it was from using the wrong products/technique. Not only was my hair breaking off but it was dry, dull, and the color looked orange/brown. I decided to try Natalia to see if she could fix my hair. By the time she finished three hours later, my hair looked and felt normal again. She took her time to highlight my hair with a product that wouldn't over bleach or process. My hair was really frayed so she didn't want to damage it any further. It took longer but worth every second in the chair. She then added the toner but brushed it from the roots to the ends to remove the brown/orange color. She also applied a mask but did the same with the brush to repair the frayed hair. We were laughing by the end because I thought I was never getting out of the bowl. Once she cut and blew it out the color looked great and it looked like hair again. She worked magic because when I walked in my hair looked terrible. I recommended her to two of my friends this morning. She was so patient but more so she is very professional. read more

This place is awesome. You ever watch those makeover shows where the person is hopelessly confused as to what to do with their hair and the hairdresser just takes over and instantly knows what would work best for you? That's what it's like walking in to David Michael Salon and working with David. I've had countless hairdressers over the years, and a lot of them have really struggled with my super straight, coarse, asian hair (even asian hairstylists). I just walked in there, said, "Yeah, I don't know what to do with this anymore" and David confidently asserted what would work best. And you know what? He was right, my hair looked awesome afterwards, definitely the best cut I've gotten in the past 5 years, at least. The space is also super chill, not loud with like 10 other chairs (there's just two chairs, maybe three, as I recall) and everyone is super nice. They even have a friendly "salon dog" that walks around in a non-intrusive way. Couple of downsides? Haircut is expensive, $45 for a dude. But, I've paid that much before for all-fluff, no-substance salons, so I actually didn't think it was that horrible. Parking is also a bitch, they only have I think 3 spots in front. The receptionist told it's no big deal to park next door at the rug store, though. read more

25 year old hair color virgin. I generally don't trust hairstylists since one ruined mine a few years ago the day before New Years Eve. Recommended to John by a couple people, and they were right...he took a couple pictures I gave him and turned my extra long, extra thick hair into exactly the hair I didn't know I wanted!
