DO NOT COME HERE unless you want a recessed jaw and a narrow airway that causes poor breathing. I am suffering from TMJ and speech issues due to misalignment after braces. David Choe uses outdated techniques and does not understand the complexities of jaw alignment and facial projection. If he suggests extracting your teeth for braces, RUN before he causes irreversible damage! A good orthodontist should be able to treat their patients holistically. However, Choe chooses profit over patient results. He will over promise during consultation and become dismissive once the agreement is signed. read more

I had initially gone to Dr. Choe because I had a knocked a tooth out of my mouth, and was looking for a solution to close the gap in my teeth. I had gone to previous orthodontists, and they couldn't offer a solution. However, Dr. Choe was able to provide two options for me, and one was a huge success. I got braces to close the gap in my teeth (along with straightening them). It was an estimated two years, but I was able to get them off six months before then! Now my teeth have no more gaps, and are beautiful. The staff was also wonderful, making it very easy to schedule or reschedule appointments, and being very gentle when taking care of my teeth. read more

I highly recommend Dr. Choe if you want to have teeth as perfect as you can possibly get. My bite is perfectly aligned, my teeth are straight, and my face is so much more symmetrical now. Also, it's so much easier to clean my teeth now, since they are no longer crooked. I gained both aesthetic and functional improvements. Dr. Choe worked with a jaw surgeon, Dr. Pham, to make my bite perfect. Jaw surgery is a big surgery, and it's very important to go with an orthodontist and surgeon that you can trust and that has a lot of experience working together. Dr. Choe and Dr. Pham are very familiar with each other and they make an amazing team. The receptionists are also super friendly and it's easy to cancel and reschedule appointments. I recently had the amazing joy of completing my braces with Dr. David Choe. As an older adult I was a little hesitant of getting braces again, had them back in the 80's as a jr high student and as many can attest to, lost my retainers and my teeth moved all over the place. My teeth had started flaring out, so I had to get braces for my first time as an adult. I had been referred to Dr Choe by a trusted dental provider and he was one of three orthodontists I had a consultation with. Dr Choe has a very kind and calming demeanor and explains everything thoroughly, setting realistic expectations. His office was over 30 miles from my home, which was far from ideal with traffic. He was professional enough to offer names of orthodontists he recommended closer to my area, in case that worked better for me. After reviewing my other options, I decided to go with him and have no regrets. I had clear braces for about two years, completing treatment within the timeframe he initially quoted me. There were times I hoped and wished that the braces could come off, but I'm glad I trusted Dr Choe's judgement. He was right when he said we weren't ready, and my teeth continued to improve. The results are even better than I expected! Everyone at the office was kind, helpful and professional, and there was minimal wait time during my visits. After I moved to OC, I was looking for a place with good recommendations to get new braces since my dentist suggested that I needed them again due to not taking good care of my teeth for about 10 years after my first braces :0 Then I found this place, Dr.Choe's. Literally, everyone recommended him to me, also he is already known as "the best" orthodontist in the OC area. After the initial examination, he suggested that it would take about 10 months to a maximum of 1 year since this was my second time getting braces. Today was the day that I was finally able to take them off! He indeed provided the best treatment and care, as did the other staff members too. I am pretty sure that nobody, including myself, really enjoys going to the dental office, but every staff member and Dr. Choe are really caring, friendly, and offered me the best services, which helped me cope with the pain.. a lot! :) read more

TL;DR Very incompetent and unprofessional orthodontist. Read the other reviews - ortho dismisses your concerns and doesn't listen to your needs. Could not fix my teeth in the time he quoted me and which should have been a "cakewalk," according to ortho. I was going on month NINE without seeing ANY changes before I switched over to a new ortho. I had braces when I was younger, but like so many people I know, I lost my retainers so my teeth slowly started shifting again. As soon as I got engaged, I looked into tray options (think direct smile) and Invisalign. I visited my dentist for an Invisalign consultation but he was very forthright with me - "You really don't need to get Invisalign for such a minor change. Invisalign is costly and honestly doesn't work as well as traditional braces. If you really want perfect teeth, I recommend going the traditional route because they can make the most detailed change" (paraphrased). My dentist made some orthodontist recommendations, but I told him I might go to Dr. Choe. He was careful not to say anything bad about him but stated his technology might be "outdated." I REALLY should have listened to him. I chose to go with Dr. Choe because he was my orthodontist when I was in elementary/middle school, and he offered discounted treatment for former patients. However, note that this "re-treatment plan" doesn't include retainers which the normal treatment does, and which costs $900. So I'm not really sure if it's saving you any money. Anyway, I went into the office for a consultation, told him I only had four months before the wedding, and he expressed confidence that he could fix the minor issue within that time. I was ecstatic to find an ortho that's confident in his abilities to meet my needs. Boy, how wrong I was. 1. The minor issue with my teeth did NOT get fixed in the timeframe indicated. I addressed this almost every single time I went in. When I expressed my concerns when it was inching to month three, he addressed me with, "Trust me. Let me be the doctor." OK DOCTOR. THEN PLEASE DO YOUR JOB. 2. Hits a couple weeks before the wedding. He then proceeds to blame MY TEETH for not moving fast enough and how he never guaranteed they would be ready in 4 months. Excuse me?! Did I not check in with you every time I came into the office? 3. Dr. Choe reassures me he will take off my braces before the wedding. Then when I'm ready to leave the office, I am charged at the front desk for having to put them back on. What?! I wasn't told beforehand that I would have to. I took a law and ethics exam recently and not disclosing costs beforehand is considered not only unprofessional behavior but also ILLEGAL. I let him know I'm not happy about this unexpected cost, and he tells me that he's a "reasonable man" and that he will "meet me halfway." Although I'm not completely happy with this result, I agree to it because I can also compromise. When I go in to re-install my braces, I am charged in FULL. I remind Dr. Choe of the conversation we had when I took my braces off and he tells me he "doesn't remember saying that." ARE YOU KIDDING ME. At this point, I don't even care about the money but it's about the principle. Don't offer me a compromise and then next time, "pretend" like you don't remember the conversation. Grow up!! 4. I decide to save half the cost myself by getting metal braces ($300) instead of the clear ones I had before ($600, mind you, for 3 months). Three months in with the second set of braces, still no improvement. I bring up the issue to Dr. Choe. He tells me that my right front tooth is thicker than my left front tooth and that he won't be able to fix that. AGAIN blaming my teeth for his incompetence. This man doesn't run out of excuses. 5. He constantly comments and advises me on my lips. Can you focus on what I'm paying you for - my teeth? I wouldn't mind additional advice if I could trust you to do your primary job well. However, if you can't even do that, for which you charge thousands for, why would I want to hear your unsolicited advise about other aspects of my appearance?! 6. There was one month my top right tooth was DROPPING. Like, did I really pay thousands to make my teeth look WORSE?! I was livid. I called him to inform him of my concerns and ask him some questions about my treatment. This is when he said it should be a "cakewalk" and when I asked if there was a particular reason it wasn't getting done, he said, "No." That's it. No explanation, no apology, nothing. I then asked if there was anyone he can consult with about this, and he was quick to tell me he doesn't meant to sound arrogant BUT he's "fixed all sorts of teeth" and "people come from all over" to see him. He then proceeds to tell me I can move orthodontists if I'm not satisfied with the progress with him. SO THAT'S WHAT I DID. Best decision ever. Do yourself a favor and find someone else. read more

I've been a patient at this office for approximately 2 years now through lots of teeth removal experiences, braces, retainers, and overall just checking my progress through my oral journey. This review is long overdue. Dr. Choe is a very skilled orthodontist who I was privileged to have had worked on my teeth. I have received numerous compliments on my teeth and smile. He fixed my overbite and even saved my teeth from shifting when my wisdom teeth were growing out. I've had so many dentists compliment and ask where I had gotten my braces done before. A dental surgeon even in Georgia commended him for an amazing job. It was the best work he has ever seen. This surgeon stated I had a very smart orthodontist who chose to place my permanent retainers in a way that not many would do and because of this decision, he saved me from having braces again. Thankful to Dr. Choe and his staff. I had a pleasant experience making appointments and getting my regular checkups here growing up. I had a very bad experience here. I have done my first ortho-treatment from a different orthodontist. And due to one of my teeth condition, I could not wear the retainer for a certain period. Eventually, my lower teeth were shifted a bit and I wanted to go for another treatment. And when I called in to make an appointment for a consultation, I explained EVERYTHING that I just wrote. So I went for the consultation and filled out paperwork and everything and later the staff escorted me to the office telling me that Dr.Choe will be in about 5 minutes. However, I had to wait over 30 minutes. Anyway, Dr. Choe finally came in, and he just read the paperwork and refused to check my teeth telling me that I need to trust my previous orthodontist rather than coming to him. He said it very very rudely. Excuse me Dr.Choe? I never said that I don't trust my previous orthodontist. I was actually very happy with the result. The reason I was searching for a new orthodontist was that my previous orthodontic is way too far from me now. It would be hard for me to drive about 4-5 hours for every office visit, and since my teeth just shifted by a little, I just first wanted to check to see if I can get it done from nearby orthodontics. Is it that wrong..? I explained but he was just like yeah still the same answer from me and walked out. I was very upset but just walked away. As I was walking out, he was telling me "I never even make new retainers for the patients who had their braces done from other places" ... OK.. that was enough Dr. Choe.. So if you are searching for a place to get a new retainer but have not done your braces here, this is not the place you want to come. I just wasted my time for nothing and walked out feeling very offended. Especially during this pandemic period, did you really have to make me come visit for this? What happened to this Dr? He used to friendly and nice but now he's old cranky mean guy. My son has bad over bite and from the beginning he said he needs to do 6 more months to fix it instead of 24 months. Last month when we came, they said he's payment is done and today the dr said he's ready to take it off. So i told him that his over bite isn't all the way in, and he said that's all he can do. What? For those wanting braces: I was scheduled for a year of braces, but ended up getting it off in 5 months after religious rubberbands, water flossing and brushing (water flossing is a complete life saver i recommend and lazy bums like me to get them!) Before I got braces i did a janky clear braces program. Trust me, i dont recommend clear braces programs despite them seeming like a more aesthetically pleasing option since you dont have to suffer from metal mouth. Little did i know how unfomfortable clear braces was, and those online programs aren't meticulous enough to perfect your bit or teeth perfections like horizontal alignment. You also have to wash your clear braces, teeth, AND floss, making it a three step process, whereas braces is just brushing and flossing! Two of my friends who had braces for the second time was seeing Dr. Choe, and I went in having no expectations, simply trusting acquaintances and word of mouth. Do not fret! the payment program is super reasonable, no rocket science there, so the bad review honestly was probably a miscommunication or lack of understanding of how the plan works! Dr. Choe was my orthodontist as a teen. My teeth were so crooked with an underbite, but Dr. Choe did an amazing job walking me through the process of getting my teeth straightened and ready for surgery. Now almost more than a decade later, my teeth shifted as I never wore my retainers. I looked at different options, but chose to go back to Dr. Choe because of my surgical history -- best decision ever. I saved so much money doing the clear braces route, as I was quoted a retreatment fee & that it would take 6 months. He was able to do it in 3! The office was also sooo so helpful and nice. My work hours made it difficult to contact the office during their open hours, so it was frustrating in the beginning. But, I would say the key thing is to be patient and just communicate your needs to them and they will work with you. Getting orthodontist treatment is no small endeavor and I researched for years, visited several different orthodontists for a consultation before deciding to choose Dr. Choe. I live in Torrance and there are plenty of Orthodontists in my city, however, I felt that Dr. Choe has the most experience and genuine care and warmth in his heart for my particular case which was somewhat unique. Dr. Choe and his staff are very friendly and answered any questions I had, before, during, and after. Worthy mention, I was working out in my gym and passed out during an exercise, landing on my mouth, which nearly knocked out 4 of my teeth. When I came to, I immediately called Dr. Choe and he answered and helped me schedule an emergency appointment and saved my teeth! This injury also unfortunately but unsurprisingly prolonged my treatment time, however, Dr. Choe didn't charge me extra for the extended time it took and happily took care of me. I am elated to report that my treatment finished up last week, and I am very happy with the end result! I came here for the first time at the beginning of high school because literally everyone and their mothers in Fullerton were referring each other to David Choe. He's very well known and trusted within the Korean community in OC, let me just tell you (and for good reason). My brother and my sister both previously had braces from him and their teeth came out beautifully so naturally my parents sent me here too and boy, am I glad. Dr. Choe is very meticulous and works hard until you have the most perfect teeth. Fast forward 10 years later: four of my wisdom teeth grew out and started shifting the rest of my teeth aka my retainers didn't fit anymore (my own fault for not acting on this sooner). That's why after removing my wisdom teeth, I decided to go back and get consultation for my second round of braces. I had to rethink about this because I live in the city now so the drive is much longer than before, but quality is always ALWAYS worth the extra effort. Dr. Choe laid out all the options and helped me choose the most financially and logistically smart option. If you see reviews where there may have been bad experiences, I would take it with a grain of salt. He doesn't sugarcoat anything and is very realistic - that's the type of ortho I want working on my teeth. Trust the process. I only wanted to fix a little part of my teeth, but he shook the whole thing up and its a whole mess he got me in. My jaw was fine before but it got weird when I try to open my chin I can feel the jaw bones are not aligned. I tell him this and he tells me to get jaw surgery. I am like, WHAT?? He's the one who did this and that's what he tells me? I saw good reviews for this place and that's why I came here. But he messed mine up and when he messes up, he messes up HARD! What I don't like most is his attitude. The way he talks and acts is very condescending and arrogant like he is never wrong no matter what he did. How can he do that when he calls himself a Christian? I thought they were supposed to be honest and good people. He is a narcissistic money-chasing two-faced liar. He is in no place to give me attitude like that but he is so thick-skinned. I have problems with jaw bones, and my facial muscles are in weird place. Irresponsible. Poor Communication. Keeps Changing Words. Defensive. Incompetent. Gold Digger. Businessman. I got braces because I wanted to fix the alignment of my teeth for cosmetic reasons. After a few months, I raised my concern after my teeth started to look weird, but he changed his words and argued that his treatment is only for medical reasons and for fixing bites. He blamed that my jawline was problematic in the first place and said I should get jaw surgery or go see a plastic surgeon for cosmetic treatment. None of these things were said before the treatment. He should not have taken on my case if he is not able to fix it. However, he did, messing my teeth more than they used to be. I will say some of the things that he said on my last conversation with him. 1. He mentioned "lawyers" right after I started to explain my concern about my teeth. This shocked me. I'm his patient trying to communicate about how my teeth are shaping, but he became defensive as if I'm going to sue him. 2. He was quick to say: "You are welcome to go to another orthodontist if you don't like my treatment." I don't know how many times he said this throughout the conversation. He is so ready to let you go if you don't like his treatment. If there is any problem, he is not willing to work with you. It is either you follow his treatment or leave without any refund nor apology. Trying to communicate with him was like talking to a wall. 3. He did not even remember the reason why I got braces in the first place. My concern was about the look. He did not remember my reason for getting braces, but only remembered what he wanted to fix about my teeth. He is not a good listener. 4. He only cares about the bite, not how your teeth look. This is exactly what he said to me: He said: "I am not concerned about the look. I'm only concerned about fixing the bite. You can go see a plastic surgeon if you're concerned about the look." I asked: "Do they fix teeth?" He said: "No" I said: "That's why I came here." Most people get braces for cosmetic reasons than medical reasons. However, he totally denied that his treatment is for any cosmetic treatment. He insisted that his treatment is only for fixing the bite. 5. He makes excuses and refuses to give definite answers. I said: "Did you know that it was going to turn out like this?" He said: "No" I said: "Can you fix this if I continue with the treatment?" He said: "I don't know." I said: "So you don't know?" He said: "Well, it's not that I don't know, but it may or may not be fixed in the process of fixing the bite, but I don't know if it will be fixed at the end of the treatment." Basically he said that he doesn't know how it will turn out, but it's not that he doesn't know, but in the end he doesn't really know. He refuses to give definite answers and does not help clarify what will happen in the treatment. What does he actually know anyway? 6. He is mostly concerned about details, not the big picture. I know bite is important and fixing details is important. But before you work on details, you need to get the big picture and the aesthetics right. If the teeth are not straightened out, why would any patient continue the treatment and fix the bite? 7. They only give photos in very small size. I called and asked them to send my photos via email to see them better, but the photos I got were so small in size and very low in resolution. When I enlarged them to see them better, they got so pixilated that there was no point in having them. I went on my last visit and asked to get my photos on my USB, but they refused, saying they will send via email again. I don't see the problem with getting the original photos on my USB. Please do not use David Choe, he is extremely rude and does not keep his word. My son came in exactly 2 years ago to date and because of his over bite, David Choe said it will take 2.5 years. And asked if he would need to take out any teeth to make some room he said it was not necessary and he would be able to take care of it. Now that it has been 2 years and we made our final payment he now is saying he can take off his braces while still having the over bite. Asked about the overbite, David Choe said there is nothing more he can do because there is no room. Which is not what he promised from the start. Received another opinion and was told my son would need to take out teeth in order to fix the over bite. David Choe, you are a joke of a person and will never refer anyone else to you. Can I add, for the 2 years of going here I was never ever greet with a hello or anything, first thing I hear is you have a payment to take care of. My experience here was perfect. Dr. Choe is a very calm, thorough, kind, ethical, and trustworthy professional who made my teeth look great. He was very efficient and made smart decisions in order to get my teeth in nice shape in the fastest way possible. (I am in my late 20's and HE actually couldn't stand the fact that I had braces and made jokes about how he needs to remove them ASAP. HAHAHA He also has a sense of humor.) I finished in two years and I can't stop smiling because I am extremely happy with my results. :) I actually enjoyed going into my appointments despite the inevitable pain that comes from the tightenings because the entire office was so friendly yet professional. All of his assistants always meticulously and carefully took care of my teeth and were very helpful whenever I had questions. They all looked happy to work there. Dr. Choe is like a celebrity ortho among the Korean community, so I was shocked to see how little reviews he had on Yelp. So many of my peers and their older siblings have had their teeth blessed by him! He and his staff are super friendly, welcoming and an overall pleasure. Everyone jokes around with you and makes you feel comfortable, from the front desk receptionists to all the dental assistants. His office is always clean and decorated festively, and I appreciate the open space where Dr. Choe can efficiently bounce from patient to patient. Make sure to wear your rubber bands everyday!!! You'll have no one to blame but yourself when he tells you your next appointment is Possible Removal...... four different times. My wife and I are very happy with our outcome! Dr. Choe is very knowledgeable in his field. I love his timely appointments, his staff, his beautiful and clean office and his attitude. Our payment plan was reasonable which worked out well for both of us. After a little more than a year and a half, the results are impressive and I am happy. Just got my braces off few days ago, and I'm completely satisfied with the result. Through out the years of visiting, I felt that dr. Choe really cares about his patients. Every staffs who work there were being so helpful and seemed happy to work there. There was time I was having protruding wire few weeks after I had my braces tightened and I needed to fix it immediately, because of being poked by wire was so annoying. So I called in for help, and they took me in right away and fixed my braces; I was afraid that I had to wait for one or two days. I already recommended Dr. Choe to my cousins and two of them are currently patients here, so yes I would recommend this place to my friends and family. If you are being hesitant about getting braces, you should meet Dr. Choe in person and hear his opinions, it wouldn't hurt to consulting with doctor. read more
